I told them when I toured the property prior to making a deposit. and I paid an event fee.I still look back at my wedding day with anger, frustration, and tears because of the mistreatment and the rudeness that they displayed. You can make whatever excuse you want. But the home had cobwebs, lightbulbs out, TV not working, a toilet not working, etc. The grass was up to our knees and there were dead plants and flowers all over the property, which looked very different from when I toured the home. The people I interacted with were extremely disrespectful. Again, it's been eight years and I still have never gotten an apology. Never once got an apology for being told the day before my wedding that if I wasn't happy with the property, I could go somewhere else. Clearly there is no shame or regret for how this association treats people who spend their hard earned money to rent their properties. Thank you Faith for bringing my old review to my attention again so I can make sure to let everyone know not to go through your organization.

Our tour guide told historical facts that you don't normally hear about in history classes. There were very creepy areas we went to- like a graveyard and a couple creepy houses. Since it's at night, it also leans toward the scaries. They follow their policies and keep an eye out on the campsites. They have quiet time policies, so you don't need to be blasted out by someone else's music or any parties. This is perfect for families like us, but not ideal for the young and single folks who want to party it up during camping. It was so quiet and serene. They have several bathrooms with showers (very clean and looked after) and an area to drop your trash so that you don't have to leave it near your campsite. The water pressure was a bit low most of the days we stayed there. It's a nice park to relax or go fishing. I am a wildlife photographer so I spent my time down by the lake. I saw a variety of birds and the sunsets were beautiful. I would return to this park as a base camp. There's not much to do here but it was nice to be able to sit by the water and relax.

Thanks to Yelp OTP intern Sarah G. for organizing (http://www.yelp.com/events/alpharetta-uye-alpharetta-food-truck-alley-and-howlpharetta-ghost-tour). We were originally scheduled to do the ghost tour on August 8, but forecasted inclement weather at the time postponed our event. The day of the originally scheduled event, I received a phone call from Alpharetta Tours informing me of the event postponement. I also received an email with a new set of tickets. The process was handled well. Tickets were $12 per person. We got a special group rate. The regular price is $15 per person. We met up with Jen Hunt, owner/operator of Alpharetta Tours, around 8:15pm in front of the Dodd Hotel in historic downtown Alpharetta. This was just around nightfall. The tour lasted about 2 hours and it was a walking tour. Bring comfortable walking shoes! Jen was a really cool tour guide. She's a history buff and you can tell she knows her stuff, especially when it comes to the City of Alpharetta. She has done her research. The HOWLpharetta Ghost Tour can kind of be thought of as two tours in one: (1) a history tour of Alpharetta and (2) a ghost tour. We learned a lot about many of the buildings in downtown Alpharetta -- what they used to be, who used to live/work in them, etc. We learned that Old Roswell St. used to be the main thoroughfare through town. We learned that Native Americans used to be shackled, transported barefoot, and buried in the surrounding area. The HOWLpharetta Ghost Tour is more of walking, educational, and historic tour more than anything else. If you're looking for a scary, haunted house experience, then you'll probably be bored. We spent a good amount of time at each stop. Jen gave us more than enough information on the history and backstory behind many of Alpharetta's historic sites and buildings. We learned about multiple prominent families in Alpharetta's history, such as the Dodds and Webbs. The tour involved a lot of walking and standing. Most of us were tired at the end, both because of the walking/standing and because it was the end of a long (week)day. We stayed within a 2-mile radius of the downtown area. Most of the walking was done on paved surfaces such as sidewalks and asphalt. However, there was one part where we were behind an old cotton mill (IIRC) and were walking in the dark on gravel. Speaking of the dark, a flashlight would prove useful, though it's not necessary. We visited many closed/empty storefronts, businesses, and houses (with permission). We also visited the nearby local cemetary, Resthaven Cemetary. I have never seen nor experienced a ghost or paranormal activity in my life, but I don't rule out the possibility of these entities existing. However, I do tend to be a skeptic. I find the whole "orbs" thing to be funny. Jen explained that if we snapped a photo and saw orbs in our photo, that the orbs represent young spirits unable to fully manifest themselves yet. I personally think these orbs are just specks of dust or other matter flying in the air or perhaps light reflecting strangely through the camera lens. I did get some nice shots of orbs. She told a lot of corny ghost jokes. I couldn't believe how many she had in her repertoire. Before going on the tour, be sure to read the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) on Alpharetta Tours' web site. It has a lot of useful and helpful info. There are no restrooms on the tour route, so be sure to go before you start the tour. Also, you may get bitten by a mosquito or two, so you might consider putting on some insect repellent. Finally, be sure to tip your guide at the end, especially if you had fun. We had fun because of our guide and because of the company.

We emailed back and forth so much that I felt like we were friends! :) First of all, she is adorable -- corny jokes and all -- and I was really impressed with her knowledge of the history of Alpharetta. She's not only been thorough in her research, but I can't believe she's memorized all of that. She's a great storyteller. As far as paranormal activity, I'm a skeptic, but I'm also easily spooked, so I thought this would be a really fun activity. Plus you get a bit of exercise walking around! I definitely saw some stuff, or at least think I did. Moving mirrors inside of buildings, flickering lights, etc. It was just the right amount of spooky. Even if you go and don't see anything, there's still lots of creepy stories to be heard! My only complaint, and this has nothing to do with the tour itself, is that there were still a fair amount of people out/cars driving by/etc. from 8:30-10:30. It might've had to do with the fact that we went on a Thursday after Alpharetta Food Truck Alley, but I would have loved a darker, quieter setting just to enhance the mood. Plan a private tour and get 10+ of your friends together (or plan a UYE like I did!) for a group discount. I'm sure the public tours are great, too, and they're every Friday and Saturday night. I wanted to wait a few days before writing this review -- truthfully, I wanted to wait until after…read morewe checked out. I dreaded the retribution of Mrs. Cynthia "Cindy" Farmer, the campground manager, which I was sure would follow. Our church group had been looking forward to this camping trip for nearly a year. I've personally camped at Bald Ridge Creek Campground many times and never had a single issue -- until now. Our church typically takes two group trips a year at another Forsyth County campground, but this year, we decided to rent nine sites at Bald Ridge. Even Cindy seemed excited that we were coming! We're a Baptist group -- not exactly known for our wild nights. We sing, we fellowship, and we're back in our campers by 10 p.m. But according to "Queen Cindy," you'd think we were a pack of college kids throwing keg parties. Our crime? An evening of worship and fellowship -- a small keyboard, a guitar, and around 50 people spread over three campsites for a couple of hours each night. Cindy declared it an "event" (apparently forbidden) and told us we couldn't do it again and threatened to make us all leave. She also banned us from eating together -- saying we could gather while serving food but had to disperse to our own campsites immediately once we got our plates. The only actual rule violation came from one site where a tent wasn't put up right away. Cindy seized on that excuse to call dispatch and have three sheriff's deputies sent to "deal with" our peaceful group of families, children, and worshipers. To their credit, the deputies couldn't have been kinder, yet embarrassed that they even had to be there. They laughed at the situation, noting they're called out to the campground frequently because of Cindy's pettiness and made-up rules. They said our little keyboard -- which Cindy had described like it was a baby grand piano -- was no problem at all. They simply advised us to set up the tent and let her stomp it out. Cindy even claimed that someone had called the Corps of Engineers to report us -- at 7:00 p.m., during the government shutdown, when the office wasn't even open. For context, Cindy lives at the campground for free as part of her role as host. It's time for someone new to take over. She also wears a body camera and records campers (which is legal, I know), but as a county employee, those recordings are public record. We'll continue to pray without ceasing for her -- that the Lord softens her heart. But until then, I can't recommend Bald Ridge Creek Campground to anyone who values fair treatment, hospitality, or simple human kindness.

I've done a lot of ghost tours over the years: Roswell, GA (several times); Saint Augustine, FL;…read moreNew Orleans, LA... I had some high hopes for this one. The theatricality of the tour seriously cut away from any interest the stories may have had for me. In other words, the stories the guide was trying to tell was completely lost behind the character he was portraying. I ended up spending most of the rest of the night trying to find the stories that were only half told or were barely referenced, including: the lynching of Charlie Hale, the Ponce De Leon/Royal Palm Southern railroad crash, the lightning strike deaths at Lawrenceville Female Seminary, etc. Again, any interesting historical bits were lost to the theatricality of the role played by the tour guide, to the point that the stories felt unfinished, a side note to the character being portrayed by the guide. Now, I can understand the need to make your tour stand out from all the others. While everyone else is giving the history and the ghost stories, the Lawrenceville Ghost Tour focuses on giving a show. The stories are there. The history is there. It's just all lost in the over the top showmanship, where the tour guide had built himself in a backstory involving a real train crash that happened in 1926. Had I known about that going in, would I have gone? Probably not, truth be told. Will I come back next year, like I have done for Roswell and will do for Saint Augustine and New Orleans? Probably not, as well. In short, if you're expecting a historical ghost tour, give this one a pass. I would have loved for this to be good, but to me, it was a little too much time spent on character development and too little spent on history.
