This is the perfect beach! It should be in a Corona commercial. Beautiful blue water, calm waves, soft sand. The 2 mountains in the background make for beautiful photography, some people were dressed up nice doing professional pictures when we were there. The beach has a long patch with plenty of space so no-one has to be on top of each other. It is a bit challenging with parking, as a tourist I had no idea where was acceptable in the residential part near lanikai, so we walked about 15 minutes from Kailua Beach Park where there was parking. It was a nice walk, the road has space for pedestrians. We went on a Tuesday morning and that parking was filling by 10 am so get there early if this beach is a priority on your itinerary. There are also no bathrooms so you will have to use Kailua beach parks bathrooms. But I would definitely recommend this beach as it was the nicest we visited while in Oahu.
Lanikai Beach is located in the town of Kailua and is known for its soft sand, blue water, snorkeling, and sea turtles. It's on the northern side of Oahu so it's a bit of a drive from Waikiki. You can take the bus but it'll take a couple transfers and a total of 1.5 hours. You can park in the nearby residential neighborhood and walk through the narrow alley to the beach. This beach was peaceful, relaxing, and had beautiful ocean views. It's definitely one of the nicer beaches on the island and has fewer people than other places. It's a place I could see myself spending a couple hours relaxing and enjoying the sand, water, and views.
Yeah yeah I know... 2 ** ONLY?! Lanikai Beach (Kaʻōhao Beach) is consistently rated as one of the best beaches in all of da Hawaiian Islands and the entire world as well. Personally, I'm don't agree with that statement. Located on Oahu's windward side; Lanikai is famous for its pillow like soft white sand and clear turquoise waters, not to mention the splendid views of Mokulua islets. The beach IS lovely and so is the water, but not much else. The water is crystal clear, but there is not a whole lot of marine life to see. So, snorkeling or diving is not something I would recommend. Forget about surfing or other water sports...not happening. Access to Lanikai is through narrow public walkways from the beachfront residential area of Kailua. Parking... hahaha... GOOD LUCK! a pain in the backside, if there is any! There is NO dedicated parking available, you gotta scour through neighborhood for a spot, creating extra traffic understandably upsetting the locals. This is more of a spot for relaxing and getting a tan, not much else. A picnic would be possible, definitely not a BBQ or a big gathering. It's mostly packed with tourists, locals don't come here, unless as tour guides...lol. TRUST. Yup! I stand by my ratings... For me, Lanikai doesn't even crack my top 10 beaches... IMHO if you think otherwise, I reckon you should travel and explore the world a bit more, and visit some very "underrated" places...
Lanikai Beach is absolutely stunning, with breathtaking views of the Mokulua Islands. The sand is soft and the water is crystal clear, perfect for swimming. It's a peaceful spot that would ideal for kayaking or paddleboarding. Do note that parking is very limited in the area, so you may need to walk a bit to reach the beach. The short trek is well worth it for such a beautiful, tranquil beach. Most beautiful beach we visited while on Oahu!
We beach hopped quite a bit and Lanikai ended up being one of our favorite beaches. It's on the east side of Oahu and situated right alongside a neighborhood. Really you don't see the beach when you first pull up. We (luckily) found parking pretty quickly but did circle around a few times. There's no parking lot so you need to get lucky with street parking. We then walked over to the beach through a small pathway. The beach itself was absolutely beautiful, with the clearest waters I've seen and sand as soft as can be. It was fairly quiet on the beach, a relaxing atmosphere with people scattered throughout. We swam for a while, then sunbathed. Perfect beach for that. Beautiful views and calm bathwater waves, it was a beautiful day at Lanikai.
Lanikai beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Oahu HI. I wish we were there when the sun was out, but we arrived later during the day so the sun was hidden :( Parking can usually be bad -- we found street parking 7ish minutes away (walking distance). There's also no bathrooms here which kinda sucked. The water is so calm here -- current waves are not strong at all and I felt safe to go into the water bc I can't swim lol :-) I will be back soon :)
Beautiful, peaceful, relaxing spot. The water is calm, the sand is soft, and the views are absolutely beautiful. Parking can be a bit of a challenge since it's in a residential area, but once you're there, it's totally worth it. Definitely one of the more quiet and scenic beaches we visited on Oahu.
No parking lot, no bathrooms, and no food trucks nearby. Why do I give it 5 stars? It's the most beautiful beach on Oahu. The water is clear blue and warm. The sand is fine and soft. Make sure you go early to find street parking. It took us 20 min of driving around the residential area to find a spot. Bring your beach chair and food from Foodland to picnic here. We spent so many hours at this beach enjoying the sound of the beautiful waves.
It's always busy here any time of the day, doesn't matter if it's weekends or weekdays. Parking is difficult to find in this area. Do yourself a favor and park at Kailua Beach and walk over (please note that there are multiple access points). You have to maneuver around the hordes of visitors, but you won't regret it! The sand is powdery soft and the views of "The Mokes" are stunning!
Lanikai Beach is rated one of the best beaches which I concur. Navigating to this destination can be quite challenging as parking is hard to locate within the neighborhood. Worth the wait because this beach is postcard perfect with white soft sand and calm crystal blue water. Truly a tropical paradise. Took my kids for a quick visit to see what the hype is all about. It definitely didn't disappoint me. We had a small picnic on the beach and later kids took a dip in the ocean. We will definitely be going back!
Finally, finally, I got a chance to come here coz we got lucky with parking on a weekday! I gotta say, now that I've been here, I understand why it's such a beloved beach. The sand is powder soft. Might be the softest sand that I can remember. It's so fine that if there's slight wind, everything will be covered in silt. It's not a sandy beach, it's a silty beach. Also, everything in your house would have a light coat of grittiness for a few days after the beach lol. The water was calm and slightly warm with gentle waves on a weekday in October when waimanalo was getting waves that could beat you up. There were also enough trees for a shady spot. Most of all , because of the limited neighborhood parking, you don't get a lot of people at the beach, unlike the crowded neighbor Kailua beach next door. The only downside is really the parking and lack of facilities since it's a neighborhood beach, not a beach park. Other than that, it's amazing.

It's the most beautiful beach I've ever seen: you will see turtles here for free and in their natural habitat eating on the banks of the shoreline . The water is pristinely blue , beach is more of a private feeling and not touristy at all other than where the turtles are read more

Fast facts: Lots of powder sand. Limited shade. No public bathrooms/showers. Some snorkeling. No parking lot. Neighborhood street parking only. Observations: Lanikai is a perennial favorite for "top 10" beach lists. This attracts more traffic than the neighborhood and beach can handle. Sadly, the littering has gotten worse over the years. Advisory: If you plan to visit please be respectful of neighbors and other people on the road. Parking is scarce so don't have a mainland tantrum if you can't find a spot right away. If you are lucky to score a spot, please remember people live there and try not to slam your car doors/trunk and yell in any language. There are usually trash cans at the entrances to the beach access but not on the beach. Don't litter. You can find a few reefs with a some small bleached coral left. Be gentle with it. Highlights: Soft sand. Tranquil beach. Stunning views. read more
While I should take off a star for hard to find parking I just can't this place is just great!! There is plenty of parking spots but it definitely gets packed ! And now I know why ! It's a beautiful beach ! If you keep walking there is also a different entry way and in my opinion a better spot to be at. It's secluded and feels like a private beach rather than open . I even saw someone fishing to the far side where there is a bay. So if you go to either where everyone is at or find the secluded entry way you will not be disappointed !! read more

Lanikai Beach is lovely and quiet. A great place for families and picnics. The water is clearer and I dare say, cleaner than Waikiki Beach?? It's away from the noise , trash, and crowds of Waikiki. read more
Lanikai Beach is by far the most beautiful beach on Oahu. The water is a beautiful turquoise color and the sand is picture perfect white. There is also hardly any waves which makes it perfect for all types of water activities. Unlike its neighboring beach, Kailua Beach, there is no parking here, so you must rely on street parking. It is also in a residential area, so that makes parking even harder because some streets were closed off. However, it is worth the effort to find parking. The beach is beautiful, serene, and peaceful. It is also less touristy than the other Oahu beaches. It is the best beach for a relaxing beach day in Hawaii. read more

Lanikai has the most pristine sand, crystal like cool waters and balmy breezes. This is one of the most gorgeous beaches in the world! Tip: Hard to place in this residential neighborhood. Come early. Or walk over from Kailua Beach. read more
There's not much to say that hasn't already been said about Lanikai Beach. It's a gem, nestled in a residential area, that has fine sand beaches and amazing views. It's definitely a must-see if you're visiting Oahu! Please be mindful while you visit this area, and read the parking signs carefully. No parking is allowed on the bike path-side of the road, and parking is further restricted during holiday weekends. read more

This is my favorite beach in Honolulu!!! It's absolutely gorgeous and not crowded with tourists. The waves aren't strong. They're calm. The sand is really soft. You can kayak and go snorkeling. There's no parking lot so find neighborhood parking. There's also no bathroom and showers. read more
My most favorite beach ever! Clear, turquoise water; white sand beach; and calm water. I love it all. So breathtaking! It is a little hard to find a parking space though as it is by residential homes but just be patient, you'll eventually find one and it'll be worth the wait. read more
Breathtaking! Definitely one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, on any island! The sand is soft, water various shades of azure and deep turquoise. limited parking with access points in residential neighborhood means that the beach is not that crowded. The water is usually still and overall, it's very serene. I usually stay in Waikiki and rather than walk two blocks to the crowded Waikiki beach, I take a 20 minute drive and end up in paradise! Do follow all regulations for parking - don't block driveways, park only where posted signs say you can park, etc. Police were making the rounds and writing lots of tickets so don't let a ticket spoil your good time. People come and go so spots open up. If you can't find a spot, go to Kailua Beach next door which has plenty of parking and public restrooms. read more

The water is crystal clear and the water was perfect for snorkling It was cool watching army helicopters fly to and from their base in pairs as they are staitoned nearby! Beautiful weather and spring break calls for a beach day! Since we hit up the west side on Sunday, my son suggested we head to another beach. I tried to add in a hike up to the Lanikai pillboxes but my son said no. Good thinking on his part as there was no street parking close to the hike. This beach has been a favorite of mine for sometime. We've brought many friends here visiting from the mainland and spent many days here with my bff Gia before she moved back to Cali. My kids love it as the water is clear for snorkeling and the waves aren't too rough. Thankful for another great beach day ! Lanikai is by far the best beach on Oahu, but it is isn't for everyone. Most importantly there are no facilities here such as bathrooms, showers or BBQ's. It is also located in a strictly residential neighborhood where parking can be difficult. With that said, it's beautiful and worth it! We came on a Tuesday and there were very few people. If you are using google maps it will have you park towards the far left end but the better part seems to be more to the right end. Once you step foot on the soft white sand and see the absolutely crystal clear water you will see why it's rated so high. The water was so warm and mostly calm. No water shoes were needed as there is soft sand all the way in. There are some larger rocks though but you can easily seem them. Grab yourself a plate lunch or some fresh poke and have a beautiful peaceful beach day at Lanikai! 100% worth the drive! read more

Definitely one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to! The sand was so soft, the water so clear and warm and the mountains behind do breathtaking. Loved the fishes in the coral and random sea slugs, the best part were the dogs with and zoomies running up to greet you! read more
I've been to quite a few beaches, but none can compare to the beauty of Lanikai and Kailua's clear turquoise waters and white sandy shores. Every time I visit Kailua, I hang out at both because they are walking distance from each other. Be aware, unlike Kailua Beach, Lanikai Beach does not have restrooms, showers, lifeguards, or a parking lot. So if you drive here, you will have to find parking on the street, which may be difficult, or park in the parking lot at Kailua Beach Park and walk over. If you are looking for another fun outdoor activity to do nearby, hike to the pillboxes, which are visible above Lanikai Beach, in the distance. From there you will have an incredible view of Lanikai and Kailua Beach and more. read more

There's a reason why Lanikai is one of the top beaches to visit in Hawaii! The name Lanikai means "heavenly sea," and that says something about how amazing it is. Here's 5 reasons you should visit Lanikai: 1. The sand is extremely soft. It's hard to explain, but it's not your typical coarse, rocky sand you find at Alamona Beach. Lanikai's sand is consistently soft, from the time you walk onto the beach all the way to the ocean. It feels like I am walking on baby powder with the tiniest bits of exfoliating features. In addition, even on a hot day the sand does not burn your feet and make you go running for the waters. Maybe someone sprinkles fairy dust at night, but I believe there's magic in that sand. 2. The water is clear AF. It's not as clear as Hanauma Bay's water, but very similar. Plus, both the sand and ocean are trash-free. I've encountered many beaches that have food left over or plastic bags floating in the sea, however, Lanikai is maintained very well. 3. It's not crowded like Alamona or Waikiki Beach, probably due to the terrible parking availability. There is no parking lot, you just have to park on the street (KEEP IN MIND: don't park in the bicycle lane). It usually takes me 15 minutes to find parking because I am also competing with other people who are trying to park and do the Lanikai Pillbox Hike. 4. The view is phenomenal. What makes Lanikai so popular are the two islands called the Na Mokulua or "mokes." Kayakers are allowed to row out to land on the larger northern island, but no one is allowed to land on the southern island because it's a bird sanctuary. 5. It's a family-type beach. I've never encountered locals or tourists partying too hard or drinking on the beach. Lanikai is usually occupied by families with kids, or young millennials. Only downfall, parking SUCKS. My tip is to park by the Lanikai Community Center/Park if the wall across the street from the beach is full. I hope you were able to enjoy Lanikai Beach as much as I did. Mahalo. read more

My most favorite place on Earth. Sugar whit me sand and gentle waves. Lots of fish swimming in the coral. More often than not, we spot turtles in the water. Go early to get a parking spot, be mindful that this is a residential area, and carry your trash out with you so the beach stays pristine. read more

One of the beautiful beaches in Oahu. Bring your food, drinks & blanket and enjoy from an amazing ocean view. It's a good place for snorkelling, although it might be crowded. There is no parking lot so you have to find street parking, and it can be tough at peak times. read more
Absolutely stunning! The water was the most amazing color I had ever seen and so was the sand. The was beach and water was so clean too. The views were stunning! This is the Hawaii I've dreamed and imagined. The water was so warm and easy to walk into. The beach also was not overly crowded and had some natural shade. Parking was limited. You are parking within a neighborhood. I found parking within 10-15 minutes of looking and had a 6 minute walk to the beach access point. Totally worth it! No restroom though. A must see! read more
Hands down my favorite beach on this side of the island. It's getting more crowded here. Parking can get pretty hard, only street parkings available around the block in front of all the houses around the area. There are not much food around we brought our own snacks. I don't give many 5 star reviews, unless it absolutely earns it, and this place does just that! Lanikai beach is incredible, clear light blue/green waters, light colored and soft sands, palm trees, not too many people, and enough parking for all! I was told Lanikai is the best beach to go to on Oahu, it is. I am glad I experienced it. It was my first time ever being in such clear waters. The colors were just like what I've only been able to see in movies, lol! There are two islands that are nearby, and people were paddle boarding to them and hanging on their beaches. These two islands are called Mokulua and Moku Iki. Relaxation is great here, water isn't too rough, calm waves, and the water temperature is manageable (slightly on the cooler side). Parking is in and around the neighborhood, be polite, be courteous, do not block anyone's driveway, and pick up any trash, don't leave any trash behind. Highly recommended, do yourself a favor and go! read more
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACH I'VE EVER BEEN TO HANDS DOWN! White powdery soft sand, crystal clear blue water, calming waves, chirping birds and a picturesque back drop. The water is cool and nice especially on a hot day. Even in the middle of winter, we were lucky to still be able to swim in the water without any issues. Come early as parking can be tricky since you have to search around the local streets close by. Make sure you park within the yellow boundaries. We saw a cop passing out parking tickets on the walk back to our car. Also, middle of the day will also tend to be more crowded so less spots to lay your beach blanket! There are no showers available so you may have to drive down to Kailua beach if you want to wash off afterwards. read more

This place is SOOOO beautiful!! Came here to see this beach because it is supposedly ranked the most beautiful beach on the island and I had to see it for myself. The conclusion is that it definitely does live up to the expectations. The water was so clean, and glowing the emerald color. The sand is so fine, like baby powder on your feet. Walking along the sand is therapeutic! No words can describe the beauty of this place, you just have to see it for yourself! read more

Is this beach good for snorkeling?
I've been snorkeling here on multiple occasions. There are reefs with many types of fish. We even saw sea Turtles swimming and eating. The waves are usually very light. This beach is great for snorkeling!

Is alcohol permitted on the beach?
Aloha , please know Alcohol is not allowed on the beaches of Hawai'i, although people do try to be creative by putting alcohol in cups or other glasses, it is illegal to drink alcohol on the beaches, they are considered family beaches.
Are there BBQ pits at this Beach?
No there are no BBQ pits. You can go to the Beach close to Lanikai which does have BBQ Pits. Kailua Beach.
Can I rent a cabana or a few sun chairs on the beach?
No. There are no vendors, no lifeguards.
Are water shoes recommended here?
No water shoes. The sand is super soft. Please don't stand on coral if you do wear water shoes. 🤙🏽
