Probably the top outrigger paddling club in Oahu, the LCC's website states "The mission of Lanikai…read moreCanoe Club is to maintain and perpetuate the Hawaiian culture through the promotion of competitive and recreational outrigger canoe paddling for youth, family, and the community." This is serious stuff - Registration to join the club (there is a limit) begins in March, and practice for the regatta season season starts in April. Crews run from girls and boys 12 year olds to men and women's "masters" (50 & over). The regatta season runs June through July, and then there are the long distance races. All I know is the first day of practice for Men's Novice B (for the guys who've never paddled/raced), the coaches were already giving a spiel on how Lanikai goes out to win every race, practices are mandatory, and 5:30 practice start times mean you are out on the canoes at 5:30, not gaggling around getting on the beach. For more "recreational" or laid back atmosphere, you may want to join another club ... Having said all that - I can't imagine a better place to be outrigger canoe paddling. LCC practices take place on Lanikai beach right off the Moks. Some days the water is clear and you can see straight down about 10-15 feet to the coral and spot the occassional sea turtle. That's when you're out on the canoe and think ... "My God, I'm really in Hawaii!" 1 June update: kicking ass ... http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080602/SPORTS13/806020349/-1/SPORTSFRONT&referrer=NEWSFRONTCAROUSEL http://starbulletin.com/2008/06/02/sports/story02.html

Friendly staff and good equipment! We wanted to rent on Sunday to go to Kaneohe. Unfortunately,…read moremost places are closed on Sunday, but not Windward! We called day of to confirm we are able to go to the sand bar on a Sunday. He had a few kayaks left and suggested we reserve it ASAP. We showed up at 10:15 to get our 2 tandem kayaks. Jeff and another employee helped us load it onto the top of our Nissan Altima, taught us how to load it, and told us where to park to get to the sand bar. We were off within 15 minutes. The kayaks are a lot heavier than I expected. They mounted them with ease but it was much harder for us to do on our own. It isn't hard in terms of the order to do everything or how to do it, but it was hard just because it is heavy. Overall I'd rent from here again as long as you have strong people to carry the kayaks. The rental for Kaneohe sand bar must be a full day rental (we used about 4.5 hours but would have felt rushed to get it back in 4 hours). It includes an anchor as well. It was $75 per tandem kayak + tax for us.

Review for Windward Water Sports 33 Hoolai St, Kailua, HI…read more96734 Owner/Instructor: Jeff Tobias On August 31, I contacted Windward Water Sports, owned and operated by Jeff Tobias, regarding a kayak rental. Since it was a Sunday and most other rental businesses were closed, we reluctantly went with this company -- a decision I sincerely regret. From the outset, the experience was chaotic and unprofessional. Calling ahead yielded little useful information; staff were unclear, unresponsive, and seemingly uninterested in helping. We were forced to book online due to the lack of timely or reliable communication. Upon arrival, we were issued kayaks and life vests that were in poor, unsafe condition. The life jackets were tattered, worn out, and looked completely unmaintained -- a major safety red flag. It's clear that this business does not prioritize safety or equipment standards. There was no proper safety briefing, and we received no warnings about the unfavorable weather or ocean conditions. The water that day was rough, choppy, and unsafe -- especially for first-time kayakers. No one at Windward Water Sports made any attempt to reschedule us or even disclose these conditions. A responsible and ethical business would have recognized the risk and acted accordingly. The parking at the launch site was disorganized and overcrowded, costing us nearly an hour of our already limited rental window. What should have been a 20-minute paddle to the snorkeling area took over 90 minutes due to the dangerous wave activity. Once we arrived, visibility in the water was zero -- snorkeling was completely out of the question. To make matters worse, on the return trip, one person in our group capsized and could not reboard their kayak without assistance -- a terrifying experience that further reflects the lack of proper safety measures, briefing, or equipment quality. After this ordeal, I requested a partial refund, understanding that we used the kayaks briefly. I was met with a flat denial. The justification? "Business has been bad." That is not a valid excuse. It is completely unacceptable to prioritize your financial struggles over the safety, experience, and basic rights of your customers. At this point, given the unsafe conditions, defective equipment, and the lack of disclosure or professionalism, I am demanding a full refund. That is the only reasonable and ethical course of action. Jeff Tobias needs to do the right thing and issue a full refund immediately. This wasn't just a poor experience -- it was negligent, unsafe, and unethical. I will be filing complaints with relevant consumer protection agencies and posting this review across all major platforms to warn others. Avoid Windward Water Sports. Your safety and your money are worth more.

We had 5 chairs and they were true Tommy Bahama chairs. Great quality. Cooler was good, not their fault but note you'll definitely need more than 1 bag of ice. Boogie board was solid and the umbrellas were good. Umbrellas came with a spike and screw mechanism to really get them deep in the sand. A most for any beach activity.

I wanted so badly to support a small business during COVID but wow this was a level of unprofessionalism I have never experienced. My boyfriend and I have been trying to rent one board since Sunday and today it is Friday and we have STILL been unable to confirm our rental. I called Sunday and received a text in response to my call. They told me to text at this number for questions and reservations. I have been trying to set up my reservation ever since via text but the responses have been little to none. On Wednesday my boyfriend even e-mailed them, but it's been two days and still no response. Their main phone number just goes to voicemail, so then we tried to call the phone number we had been texting but someone answered saying "you have the wrong person", even though hours later they would respond to my text with the same number. We were really excited to stand up paddle board this week but now we won't be doing it anymore. I'm very disappointed. The communication was seriously the most unprofessional I've ever experienced. All I wanted was to rent one board. I don't know why they're not interested in doing so, or it's fine if they are not able to but they should have communicated that to me instead of leaving me on read on and off for the last 5 days.

Also, we had people ages 13 - 66 in our party and everyone got the most out of the day. We started our day walking along the beach near Chinaman's Hat, then headed to the Byodo-In Temple, next stopped at the Pali Puka Lookout which is where the real adventure started. Robert took us on the most exciting hike we had ever been on up to the Pali Puka. After that we went on a easy hike to the ruins of one of King Kamehameha's homes. From there we headed in to Waikiki to get lunch and hop on a catamaran. We weren't done yet! From Waikiki we headed to the north side of the island to see the Green Sea Turtles and then snorkel in Shark's Cove. Along the way, Robert answered any questions we had and shared his vast knowledge of the island. He was also well stocked with snacks, drinks, and gear to make the day absolutely perfect. Later on in the week, we reached out to Robert to get tips on where to see more stuff and he was happy to help point us in the right direction. Don't miss the opportunity to experience EVERYTHING Oahu has to offer!

He planned a day tailored to what we wanted to experience and our adventure level. He even educated us on Hawaii's culture and history along the way. We enjoyed beautiful views, pristine beaches, swam with sea turtles, hiked to waterfalls, explored a mermaid cave, snorkeled and jumped off a cliff! The best part was he took over 400 pictures and videos for us. We never had to take out our cameras or worry about capturing the moments. All we had to do was enjoy ourselves. My family of four had a wonderful day and we all loved every part of it!!
