Dr Lon , screamed at me in the waiting room! He said terrible things and completely lost his temper! this was because I took my pet for a second opinion! the second opinion allowed my pet to eat again and to be in less pain! Dr. Lon was not professional he just lashed out at me for trying to get help for my pet! His ego is huge and yet he is not a kind or caring person! the true caregiver in that office is a lady named Jen. Jen is knowledgeable and has great people skills! another lady Lynn is also very helpful! Dr Lon, screamed at me in the waiting room because I took my Pet for a second opinion! the second opinion vet helped my pet have less pain and to eat again! this second vet showed deep concern for my pets quality of life not just wanting to do yet another surgery! my pet was administered fluids and antibiotics and appetite stimulants which helped him in his last days! Dr. Lon has a huge ego and thinks he is never to be questioned! the truth is he should have encouraged me to get a second opinion. instead he just allowed my pet to suffer and have more pain! no empathy in that man! He is all about himself and needs constant praise! it is Jen and Lyn who are the real caregivers! Dr. Lon did nothing to help my pets pain from the surgery he did! He is a Butcher, no tenderness, no patience, no kindness! just a huge ego that he needs to have fed often! Dr. Lon is cruel and uncaring and thinks he knows more than anyone! We have been taking our pets to Dr Lon and Dr Emslie for years. Today we took our 2 dogs and 1 cat for their shots and check up. The staff is loving and personable. The prices are, for 3 check ups and shots, reasonable/affordable. Today we met their new vet and she was knowledgeable and very pleasant and caring with all 3 of our pets. Dr. Lon gave my budgie an antibiotics injection in the chest and caused 3 drops of blood to stain the paper towel underneath. Instantly the bird stopped standing on the perch and was on his belly with the head against the corner of the cage. 30 minutes later the vet came back and gave subcutaneous saline injection to resuscitate the bird. The bird was flapping his wings when the injection took place. Within half a minute the bird twitched and died with more blood from the new wound staining his body. Pictures are worth 1000 words. I took photo of him when he was still standing on the perch before the antibiotic shot. The second photo was taken after the antibiotics shot. The third photo shows where the blood stains are after the budgie died. The incompetency of the vet is inexcusable. The vet was telling me how the bird was very sick anyways. That is totally beside the point. Dr. Lon's handling of the injections is what I am reporting about! This happened on the evening of 9/25/2018. read more

My daughter brought her ferret in to have a lump looked at at the end of his tail, the Vet was aggressive taking him out of the crate and actually got bit. Cut his nails so short they started to bleed after we asked him to NOT cut them! They charged us 260.00 for a lab test and an additional 70.00 to see him! Which BTW is HIGHWAY ROBBERY. Asked her to "wait" outside the room while they examined him, which she refused ! I know my options are limited because "exotic pet vets" are hard to find but THIS PLACE SUCKS !! It's evident they are all about the $$ then actually caring for your pet! I'd rather drive the distance to see true professionals ! SHAME ON YOU LANTANA VETS - you are ripping people off especially in times like today !! Won't go back - word of mouth is the BEST advertisement! read more

I am also surprised at these negative reviews, although I haven't had any experience with some of the exotic animals discussed by some reviewers. My experience with this practice is limited to canine treatment. Most Vets are pretty expensive, and I didn't think this practice was any more or less than others I've been to in the past. What I especially like about Dr. Lon is his diagnostic abilities. Dr. Lon is very knowledgeable and experienced, and doesn't over-read test results/x-rays or pressure clients to undertake unnecessary treatment(s). Even after we moved from the area, we'd still find ourselves gravitating toward Dr. Lon for second opinions and take-over treatment when our local Vets came up empty. read more

I will never return. Started off with two techs man handling my pup. He's a big guy but yelped at the was they were grabbing him. The doctor swore they were trained. Trained to hurt him? Blood tests were taken but results were not given to be as promised and when I called the front desk staff lied and swore that the doctor had called. I checked my phone but no call. She followed up that it must be my phone. Left message to have the doc call me and when I heard from her the next day she said she knew who's lied since her nurse was supposed to call me. She made excuses for the lie but no apology? It also took 3 calls to get the prescription called into the pharmacy. Each of the staff members that answered when I called Said the doctor hasn't given the ok for the meds, but each said they got the ok? So many half truths in this place. No way of trust them to take care of my dog when they don't know the difference between what's true and what's not. Very underwhelmed and will not be recommending or returning. I called on a Saturday morning to bring in my 12 year old bunny because he was falling over and could not get up on his own. I was crying on the phone because I was scared he was dying. I was told "Sorry, we don't have any room today to squeeze you in". I understand if they're busy but this is my bunny's regular vet. They should never tell anyone not to come in if the pet is in distress. There aren't many exotic vets in the area and no one wants to take a new patient on a Saturday. The front desk person gave me the phone number of vets in NJ! Really? I was thinking about switching my dogs over to Lantana Vet but no way in hell now! I took my Veiled chameleon in about a month ago to see the reptile veterinarian because he was struggling to eat and seemed lethargic. The Vet was extremely unprofessional and actually quite rude. Unfortunately I cannot remember his name however I'm assuming he's the only reptile veterinarian at this location, he was shorter and had dark hair from what I remember. Anyways, after I signed in and was waiting to get seen the entire room was crowded with people and their pets, after about 15 minutes of waiting, a veterinarian comes out and tells a family that they are going to put their dog down in front of everyone in the waiting room which I thought was extremely unprofessional and unnecessary considering there was a private room to do that and it just seemed like that particular veterinarian didn't care enough to even consider that despite the family breaking down in tears. Back to my story, once I was called back, the vet examined my chameleon and basically told me that I was wrong to purchase one without proper knowledge and skills for caring for them even though I'm very knowledgeable with this breed of chameleons. After that I went into detail about his crate enclosure and specifically what I thought was wrong with him, he refused to listen to me. He told me that I was flat out wrong. He told me that I shouldn't own a chameleon and no one should ever own one because they are not good pets??? Really weird even if that's his opinion. After about 10 minutes of talking with him, he came to the conclusion that he was not going to help me. He sent me home without help. I ended up seeing another veterinarian who actually listened to me when I told him he had a parasite and then proceeded give me a poop sample and it turned out I was right. The parasites got so bad that it killed him and it was to late for me to help him. I will never forgive this place for shutting me out and making me feel stupid when I was the one who knew what I was talking about despite the doctor SPECIALIZING IN REPTILES. Do not take your pets here. Please just don't. *****update: let's also not forget that same veterinarian told me he just had covid and coughed multiple times in the tiny room we were both in then giggled about it as if it was funny. I've been taking my animals there for years. Staff is kind and very professional and Dr Lon is caring and super knowledgable.

First, they're VERY expensive. Blood work for my senior dog cost double what we currently pay for a different vet nearby. Even though I was an existing client, when I asked for a referral to a specialist and they refused unless I came in and paid for an office visit with them first. More disconcerting, the vet we saw seemed very arrogant. At my dog's checkup, the vet grabbed my dog's foot to trim his nails. When I explained I don't use a clipper on their nails and I will maintain them on my own, he adopted a very dismissive tone and said "it's part of the service". And even worse, after ignoring me that I didn't want my dog's nails cut, he quicked my dog and made it bleed (I use a Dremel and my dog's nails are always kept short so there really wasn't anything for him to cut). I consider myself to be my dog's advocate and prefer a vet who seeks to be a partner in their care, not a dictator. read more

This Vet clinic is top dollar. Very expensive I have learned to ask ahead exactly what they are doing and the costs And decide if it's necessary. Also yesterday I brought my puppy in for rabies booster.. Which was only a few weeks overdue ....I didn't know it had to be a year to the day She nipped at the Vet ...DR Emslie ....whom later said she was going to call Animal Control and have my dog quarantined. This would be very stressful since I am single and take her to day care s few days when I work. After using this clinic for 24 years and paying them thousands of dollars....I thought this was a nasty thing to do. They know she doesn't have rabies. So considering the nip was an accident. They never should have tried to get my dog from under a chair... She was afraid and reacted. I could have gotten her out Also considering they seem to have no appreciation for my business ... And having used them for six pets over the years ...I feel it was bad business and a slap in the face. read more

new patient here! while walking in another patient was telling me how wonderful they are here and how she moved and still travels to this place. she reassured me my cat is in good hands! the staff and both doctors are super awesome with great energy. my only complaint was my appointment being moved up an hr and ten minutes bc of an emergency that came right before being seen. But i understand things happen...but my cat ended up peeing in her cat cage twice, and partially on herself. read more

Dr. Barlowe stayed late to help diagnose my friend Oscar during the Holidays. She and her Technicians Megan & Becky were very Professional and courteous. I feel like reviews should be based on the Care our Pets recieve not on the cost. They worked well together as a team and put the Animals needs ahead of their own in a Selfless manner that speaks of True Compassion. I was new to the area and needed a new vet for my 2 pups. So my 5 year old pup hurt his leg while running. So I took him to lantana vet and the shady "DR" asked what happened and after telling him,The "DR" said he needed to take him into the back where I wasn't allowed... to examine him, first red flag!!! And he had to sedate my dog to examine him ($189 for the sedative, I found out after the fact)...2nd red flag, then I heard my pup yelp like I never heard before. I flipped and yelled to them in back, They said it was a different dog but I know my pups. About 15 minutes later the "nurse" came out and told me he tore his ACL. (I really believe he did the damage in back) When they brought my dog out (almost 30 minutes later) they actually brought him around front from outside, said they needed to walk him around because of another dog???My dog is sedated and they took the long way. On top of that they tried to trim his nails and cut the quik on 2 nails and didnt even finish cutting them all and told me he stumbled. The vet never came out to talk to me and left the 2 little receptionist to explain these "issues". My pup became very scared at the vet after that. He is lucky I didn't have legal proof of what he did!!! This "vet" needs to be put out of business. read more

I loved the vets there but I'll never go again. There's a short blonde technician named Jess that is just so rude. Doesn't even look at you when you come in the door. Rolls her eyes at you. Gave me attitude when I asked about my dogs medication like I was supposed to already know. Like I was boring her. Completely unprofessional and the owner should be ashamed keeping an employee like that. I wouldn't trust my dog in their care knowing there's a person like that working there. I bring my lizard here as they are one of the only vets that accept exotics in the area. However, I would come here regardless. For exotics they have some of the best prices in the state. They also have a very knowledgeable staff that does not shirk away from a lizard. Even some vet offices that take snakes and lizards will seem uneasy about them but not these guys. They understand that animals are a part of your family and they seem to genuinely care about making sure your furry or scaly family member is healthy. I have no problem making appointments often same or next day and the staff is quick to answer any and all questions. Even though they're a bit out of my way, I thoroughly enjoy bringing my pets here. read more
