I really love this boutique. The owners are super sweet so I love supporting local businesses At first glance it looks like a boutique catered more towards an older generation but the cuts of the skirts and pants remind me of the type of styles I see in Korea, Japan and Europe during my recent travels. The clothes blend well with my Madewell, Anthro and Eileen Fisher outfits. I work in the design field so I have to look a bit polished with a modern edge; this caters to my style. I would definitely encourage people to step inside (I go strait to the sales rack) and try things on. It really is surprising what you can find. read more

Lan Vie designs are in my top 3 for the Bay Area. I've been shopping here years, so this review is long overdue. What I've always loved about Lan Vie, both as a designer and a boutique, is that the fashions change often, everything is well-made, and you find lots of day and night ready options. My first years shopping here were looking for stage wear, mostly dresses, as a performer.Then, as I toured, I needed fabrics that packed and traveled well. They always have lots of pants / jackets like this. I love how the owner is the designer, and how she knows what we want, and even shifts her designs based on customer feedback. Highly recommended to find something original for a special event or weekend. Since the owner changes things up, sometimes you'll find an abundance of edgy designs, other times, bright, and sometimes formal. The pieces mix and match well too. So I recommend stopping by often to see what's new. read more

While meandering around Jack London Square during the Crab Crawl, I was intrigued by the beautiful clothing that was displayed in the window. I was pleasantly surprised when I entered that even though this was a boutique with beautiful custom pieces made with quality fabric, the prices were not beyond reach. Why, do you ask, do you only rate it two stars? While I was checking out the shop, someone came in from outside, walked right up to the counter and asked if they could have their parking ticket validated. The shopkeeper cheerfully assured that that it was no problem. After I left, I asked hunnie bunnie to go get our parking ticket stamped. He came back and said that the same lady told him, "No, you must purchase something." So, alas, Lan Vie will not be getting any of my shopping budget spent at their beautiful store. For whatever reason ms. shopkeeper chose to discriminate against my hunnie bunnie, it's just BAD business. read more

I love coats in all weights, fabrics and sizes, you could say I'm obsessed with coats. I love them and since I moved back to CA from Chicago, I've have had to embrace the idea that not all my coats are appropriate and too warm... but you see there is a silver lining... this means I am on the search for the perfect bay area winter weight coat or coats if I'm lucky and can fit many into my budget. So when I popped in to Lanvie this evening I was pleasantly surprised to find an entire rack of perfect coats all of which were stylish and within my budget. I wanted them all and couldn't make a decision on which I wanted most, so I left empty handed... but never fear, I'll be back and I'll get one or maybe two of these fantastic jackets and you'll all want to know where I got this great coat... until then when I'm nice and cozy. read more

I'm a thirty-something with a child who doesn't want to dress like a hipster with tight message tees on my body that can't compete with a 22-year old for whom those tees are designed. However, I'm not ready to wear Lee jeans and holiday-themed sweatshirts either! (May that day never come!) I have simple criteria: well-made, real fabrics (wool, silk, linen, cotton), some interesting touch to make it fashionable, reasonable prices (reasonable as in Macy's prices, not Nordstrom.) Lanvie has clothes that fit my criteria! Granted, there is a limited selection, as it's a small shop, but it's a sure-fire place for finding a cute outfit that's not too expensive. I got a cute pair of linen capri pants with snazzy buttons on the side and a fitted shirt to wear over it for $120. Granted the pants had an elastic waist, but since the shirt was sort of like a little jacket,no one will ever know! There were interesting touches on both items, and I felt sure that some sweat shop workers were suffering for my fashion find, but the clerk (English accent, nice!) told me everything is made in Jack London Square. I saw some cute Asian style jacket-tops made of silk for about $90 each and some casual pants (~$70) to take the place of jeans that had pretty embroidery down near the ankles.It definitely warrants a trip back, so don't rush out and buy my size! Lan Vie has been my new favorite place to stock my wardrobe for the past few years. Almost everything I wear day to day is from Lan Vie and if they had dance clothes that worked for me, I would always be dressed in Lan Vie clothes. I really Love that they are local and make all their own clothes in the store!! Nothing made overseas, all money stays local and the prices are still affordable. Especially if you go for the sale rack which they always have a good selection of. The customer service has always been great for me, very friendly and personable. Their style might not be for but definitely worth taking the time to drop in to see if it is a fit for your wardrobe collection. read more

This is the perfect store for those of us who can no longer get away with combat boots and Nightmare Before Christmas t-shirts at work, but who abhor the idea of khaki pants and pastel tops. Unique clothing abounds at Lanvie, with interesting fabric choices and only several-of-a-kind styles and patterns. While I wouldn't go so far as to say it's "inexpensive" (I'm an extreme bargain shopper), the quality is such that I feel I'm getting a great deal ... the weights are lovely, and most things are lined. Apparently there are three designers working for Lanvie, and one of them may even be the one selling you your clothing! It's a neighborhood gem (dangerously, right around the corner from my house), and I hope they stay around for as long as I'm living here. I plan to wear styles like this for the remainder of my adult life! read more

Just found this boutique. Love love love it! I just got 4 gorgeous items. The quality is amazing. Professional & substantial cloth. The designs are super unique. I am a tall and some of the things I tried on....were as if she had already tailored it for me! Very stylish, I am sporting several new designer outfits......feeling beautiful. The designer was helping me personally. Very sweet lady. I will be coming back for more! Oh yes, I saved.....more than I spent. The prices were unbelievable. I'm so excited to have found this place. I was a Lanvie customer for three years and spent more than $3,000 in her store. I was in the other night and the sales clerk told me I had ten days to return the items I bought. It turns out the sizes weren't right, so I took the garments back THE VERY NEXT DAY. A different clerk looked at my receipts and started to hesitate, as if she wasn't going to honor the return. Then she said she had to check with her manager, which she did, and she told me she couldn't take it back. She couldn't even exchange the garments for different sizes! I was furious. I called the owner on her cell phone and she confirmed that I was stuck with the wrong sized clothes I asked her whether she valued my business, because I vowed they'd never see me again if they didn't take back the clothes. I was very upset. The sales clerk was apologetic and I told her it wasn't her fault. But I told her I hoped she was looking for another job, because if that's how Lanvie treats its customers, they won't be in business for very long. read more

Not until you have made your purchase do you find out that you cannot return ANY purchase for a refund. You can only get store credit. I found the exact same item @ 25% less at the Webster location a half hour after I'd purchased the item at the Park St. store. I didn't know there was another location in Alameda until I received a card with the purchase indicating this and I went over there to check it out. There's the exact same item, 25% less. Talking will get you no where--they refused to honor the other price--that's when you find out there are NO REFUNDS--AN HOUR LATER! I'll never be back to either store--Those purchase conditions should be posted, not to mention that they should honor the price from the other store. read more

I have driven by this place many times and finally walked in today. I was surprised to find affordable and well made one of a kind clothing. I bought a jacket and a pair of pants for a little over $100. In the first three hours that I wore the pants I received two compliments about them. Beyond impressed with this place. Stopped by on a whim, not knowing that this was a local designer. OMG. Shoes down to size 35 (and comfortable!). Every dress I tried on was flattering and unique. Found a one-of-a-kind silk (!) dress for ~$50. The armholes weren't quite right and Lan said those can be altered. Perfectly fitting tees. Easy, versatile belts. Did I mention free alterations? I think this place has GREAT bang for the buck. On top of it, Lan is sweet, down to earth, and came up with great recommendations. Amazing! read more
