A strong word of warning about Dr. Ashley Powell and Animal Medical Center:…read more We took our dog in for an emergent but common procedure. He was diagnosed quickly and surgery was recommended (to be performed by Dr. Koegel). Hours go by with no updates so I called to find out what was going on. Dr. Ashley Powell (the co-owner of the practice) got on the phone to tell me our dog died during surgery and Dr. Koegel was upset so she sent her home. Dr. Powell gave an - we don't really know what happened the procedure itself went great he just didn't do well - explanation of what happened. We went in to say goodbye and during our second post-surgical interaction she said the same thing - no clear explanation of what happened. My husband and I are both in medicine and knew something was off here. On our THIRD conversation after demanding to know what transpired during the procedure step by step (and demanding to speak to the lead surgeon Dr. Koegel) we learned that Dr Koegel mistakenly cut into our dogs diaphragm and called Dr. Powell into the room to help stabilize him while Dr. Koegel attempted to suture the laceration. This unforced surgical error was what killed our dog (admitted by all parties in our 4th conversation). What is more disturbing to me than a mistake happening during a procedure is the lack of professionalism, transparency and ethics by Dr. Koegel and Dr. Powell at every step. Dr. Powell runs the practice and found it reasonable to send Dr Koegel home instead of doing the ethical thing of facing the family and explaining what happened and taking that responsibility. Most importantly, Dr. Powell was not honest during the first two conversations about what happened during the procedure even though she was in the room. Medical professionals have a solemn obligation to conduct themselves with integrity even in the tough moments and Drs. Powell & Koegel lack that fidelity. We can't accept the idea of something like this happening to another family so please reconsider your vet care - Dr. Powell also co-owns Ally Urgent Medical Care off North Great Neck Rd in addition to co-owning Animal Medical Center. Dr. Koegel has since left AMC.

I'd leave 0 stars if I could I Would NOT recommend…read moreWilliamsburg Veterinary Clinic for anyone who truly cares about their pets needs. My cat went in on Wednesday ( mind you they only had one vet checking in on pets all week and saw a vet that wasn't hers Dr. DeWitt ) as she was throwing up blood. He sent her home that everything "was fine", his staff informed me he took a single radiograph, said she was just backed up, drained her poop and gave her a shot for nausea and sent her home. She seemed ok when I picked her up, just looked like she was sleepy. And sent me on my way with a $450 bill. Thursday morning, my cat still doesn't want to eat, but I now noticed she looks more sick and very limp. I rush her back to Williamsburg vet. They take her back and then say "She looks extremely sick, If I thought she was sick enough I would send her to the ER. But we aren't there yet. I will put her on IV, run a blood panel, give her a nausea shot and monitor her for the day. We will leave a needle wrapped on her paw bring her back tomorrow morning (Friday ) so we can give her more fluids in the morning". I pick her up at 5:30 they say she's good to make sure she doesn't throw up. And proceeded to send me on my way with a $400 bill. Friday morning, I take her in and she is drooling, still won't eat and is very lethargic. They say she's needs more fluids. I Google and find out about an appetite stimulant. I ask them about it and he says "yea that's a great option we can look into" my cat stays for the entire day. I pick her up and a $250 bill. My cat is drooling, and still very tired still. The dr informed me as long as she doesn't throw up over the weekend she will be fine even if she decides to not eat all weekend. That she has enough fluids in her to last until Monday. This afternoon, my cat falls over and stops breathing. I rush her to the ER, and come to find out my cat should have never been sent home in the first place and is and has been in critical condition! I'm extremely upset and have lost all faith and trust in Williamsburg Vet Clinic! My dog gets seen there and we will be switching immediately. Sorry for the long post. But when my pets are neglected due to possibly understaffing. It's hard to stay quiet, and my heart is completely shattered!

They were so informative, BEYOND attentive, they loved my girl just as much as I do, and they kept me up to date through surgery, after surgery, they even checked in on us multiple times making sure all was well with Allie, and that she was healing great! We are very grateful for this clinic, and everyone who has been a light for Allie and I, and even our entire family! When I first came in I had a baby strapped to my chest, and two other children ( their dad was working, so mom was playing super mom) and they opened all of us with open arms, and made things just so seamless for us! I did not meet a single person who did not show us the absolute most compassion and love! I've never found a single place on earth where I had zero negetive things to say, but they went so above and beyond!

Dr. Garmin sat on the floor to play with my doggo to make him comfy with her. I also wanted to mention cause I saw some not great reviews regarding pricing. When I went to get charged they were going to charge me for both the visit and the removal but I brought up the phone conversation and they honored it without even checking with the staff who I spoke to. I really appreciated that. I thought that was an amazing price for both services and I appreciated how they handled the miscommunication. Great customer service!

We took out healthy 5 year old GSD in for some routine procedures and received a phone call a few hours later that our dog had died. i don't know if it they gave him too much sedative's/anesthesia or if someone gave him too much of whatever they give them to wake them up. Either way my very healthy young dog is now DEAD. My dog was getting a hematoma on his ear fixed and we figured that would be a good time to get him nurtured and his teeth cleaned as well. None of these things needed done and were in no way life threating or complicated procedures. It should have been a warning to us the few times we went there no one was on the same page. You would talk to someone on the phone and when you get there it was like no one had any idea about anything that was discussed. it was the same way after we talked to the Dr and received a treatment plan. Then when when we went back a week later it was like they had no idea what was going on. This place wont even take accountability. "Sometime things happen" BOTTOM LINE IS SOMEONE SCREWED UP AND NOW MY DOG IS DEAD......!!!!!!! **BEWARE**
