I don't typically write negative reviews, but after giving this business several months to address the situation, I feel it's important to share my experience. I brought a dress in this past December to be dry cleaned for an upcoming wedding. When I picked it up, I didn't try it on in-store, but when I got home, it was immediately obvious something was wrong the dress had clearly shrunk. The slip underneath the silk was visible, which was not the case when I dropped it off. I returned to the store right away and explained the issue. I was told they would "see what they could do," and initially that a claim could be submitted if it couldn't be fixed. Later, I was told it had been "fixed," but when I went back, I was discouraged from trying it on in-store and met with noticeable attitude. Eventually, I was allowed to use the bathroom to try it on, and while it was slightly better, the dress was still noticeably smaller and not the same fit. I repeatedly asked to speak with a manager and eventually connected with the owner, who was apologetic and told me to email him so they could process a claim. I did exactly that and followed up multiple times over the next 2-3 months via email, phone calls, and in-person visits. Unfortunately, I never received any further information or resolution. The only compensation offered was a refund for the cleaning services (about $35), despite the dress costing $300 and being effectively ruined. This was extremely frustrating, not just because of the damage to the dress, but because of the lack of accountability and follow-through. I tried to handle this reasonably and gave ample time for a resolution, but ultimately felt dismissed. THE WORST. Please do not go here. I have been a customer for a while, and nothing has gone wrong. Their fees are overpriced, but whatever. I dropped off a custom jacket for a tailoring service and ... well, the quality is genuinely an embarrassment. the garment was dirty, had horrible stitching.This was the least of my worries, I still have time to take it to another place. What truly blew me away was the audacity of the women working there. My mother came to pick the jacket up and she got shooed away, they didn't want her taking photos and just wanted payment. Any question she asked, they pretended to not understand (the irony here is my mother's first language is not English and the woman at the front desk, who's first language was obviously not English either made comments about my mom's pronunciation.). I called about 11 times after finally connecting to someone, and she was actually in the shoprite next door scanning her grocerie. Super rude In general, acting as though she owned The place. Long story short.. they refuse to give my jacket back so I am more than happy to take them to court over it. Do not do business here. read more

I just tried Lapels Dry Cleaning for the first and last time. I wanted to love this place but I will not be going back. I dropped off dress shirts, a dress, pants etc. One of the shirts I dropped off was a brand new white dress shirt. I just really wanted it pressed because it was brand new. It was suggested to me to get the wash and press because it's actually cheaper so I said fine. I bring it home and there's a smudge on the collar. I was planning on wearing this shirt tonight because I have a wedding tomorrow. So annoying for a brand new shirt to be potentially ruined from getting it dry cleaned. Oh and there was a couple in there saying that both of their Canada Goose jackets were ruined. read more

First off, I tried this place because I needed somewhere that would clean my leather jacket. I used to get that cleaned in NYC but now that I'm working from home I needed to find a place in NJ. I also decided to trust them with some of my other items of clothing since they do "green" dry cleaning which means they don't use perc. However, as a pet peeve I hate how they leave their mark on my shirt on the labels. If I ever want to re-sell my clothes I have their "lapels" mark on the clothing label. Other dry cleaners just pin their label so it's easy to take off. They use some sticker that you can't even take off so now your clothes are just labeled "lapels" also -- that is a personal pet peeve. What really bothered me is the price we pay I don't expect to get clothing back with stains. I've been to other dry cleaners in the past that are slightly cheaper and I've never had stains. I was annoyed to see that they left a stain on my shirt. I definitely won't be back even if it's close by to my place. I'd rather find a different place that won't leave stains on my shirt. read more

Recently I went to pick up a garment needed for a holiday event. I received a text message that it was ready, but when I went to pick up the shop had closed an hour earlier than the closing time given at drop off, which was also clearly posted on the door as their holiday hours. Attempted to give them an opportunity to address this by calling and leaving a voicemail right away, but during the two days the shop was closed over the holiday (a full day before my event) there was no response to this customer's request. Bad experience - they ruined all my clothes and refused to take ownership or fix the clothes.

I used this cleaning service after they assured me that they could keep the Red fur on my suit from bleeding in to the white fur. Well after they failed on the first try they "tried" three more times to fix the bleed. No improvement. This was a three hundred dollar suit and it's ruined. I can't wear red with pink fur! Not only could I not get in contact with the manager, (number given didn't even have voicemail set up) when speaking to workers at store most acted like they didn't speak english. No help, no remediation, No satisfaction. was told to wait for a call that was over 2 months ago. I wouldn't trust them to clean old wash rags with out ruining them. Santa is not happy!!!!!!!!! I dropped off my suit here to get dry cleaned and it was guaranteed by a specified time and date. I show up at that specified time and date, only to find out that one of their cleaning machines is broken. Okay, that's fine and no one can plan for that, but I wasn't alerted that my suit, which was needed for a job interview, wouldn't be ready in time. If I was warned in advanced, I could have taken it somewhere else and there would have been no issue. So I ask for my suit back, but apparently they just toss your clothes in a dirty pile without any labeling or anything, so I had to wait another 30 minutes (in addition to the other 30 minutes I waited just to talk to an employee because they were dealing with another customer) for them to find my now wrinkled suit jacket and pants. Now I have a suit that is more trashed and dirty than when I dropped it off, wasted time, and an important job interview tomorrow. Thanks Lapels for your awesome service! This review is long past due. I started coming to Lapels a few months ago and have honestly been so happy. I was previously using a dry cleaner in Basking Ridge which wasn't that great. One day I was looking for a new place and Lapels showed up. I visited it first since it is next to the ShopRite I go to. I met Frank and was relieved to find a place for my dry cleaning. Everything is so organized and efficient, it's just a business that makes sense, does the job and keeps the customer happy. Easily a 5 star experience. Also, prices are incredibly fair compared to other dry cleaners in the area. read more

Very unprofessional and unhelpful staff. I was promised my items would be cleaned 2 days after it was handed in. When I went to pick the items up well after the recommended time I was informed that the cleaning staff had left early and my items would not be ready to be picked up. read more

Frank and his staff really go above and beyond to provide excellent customer service. I frequently get last minutes trips which of course require clothes to be done in a very short turn around. They are so helpful and try to accommodate me when possible. My husband and I will continue to use them. read more

I started using lapels about two years ago because it was convenient as I shopped at the shop rite supermarket in Somerville, I met Frank the owner at the time he was a very enjoyable personality, and extremely pleasant to work with. The dry cleaning was exceptional, and the service was spot on. Recently I have been bringing my dry cleaning and noticing that when I picked up stains that were on my clothes prior to dropping off were still there. I also had a pair of pants tailored, and the stitched hole looks like my 10-year-old had done it, and I was charged $15 for the service. When I spoke to the girl at the front desk I was informed that the franchise had been sold to a new person. And I knew that was the issue. I won't be returning to this dry cleaner. Since Lapels opened last year I haven't taken my clothes for dry cleaning anywhere else in town because there's no need to. My clothes come back perfectly cleaned and almost always earlier than expected. I've also had some tailoring done and I can highly recommend their services for that as well. I had several terrible experiences with this dry cleaners. It started with me dropping my husband's shirts off to be tailored and cleaned. The young man behind the counter seemed completely overwhelmed, but he printed me a ticket and said the shirts would be ready in a week. A week went by, and I did not receive any notification that they were ready. Finally after about ten days, I went into the store with the printed ticket to find out what was going on. They had no idea where the shirts were. After the owner frantically ran around looking for the 7 shirts, she finally found them. Nothing had been done. The owner only expressed relief that she had found them. She apologized for inconvenience, but did not offer a discount for it. After waiting another 48 hours, we were notified that they were finally done. However, once again we were to be disappointed. None of the tailoring had been done. My husband decided to give them another chance. He brought the shirts back, and dropped them off with the owner. A few hours later, he gets a call. The OWNER had forgotten that they didn't have the machinery to make button holes. Something that would have been nice to know when we embarked on this journey with Lapels 3 weeks ago. My husband said he would come back and pick up the shirts. When he got there a day later, they were once again missing. The employee behind the counter entered another frantic dance of where could the shirts be. The incompetence in and of itself was enough for us to never seek Lapels' services again, however, the lack of customer service is what the true shame is. After losing our shirts twice, not knowing what services they actually do and do not offer, and making us have to drive back and forth to their establishment several times, they still did not offer a refund or credit. They didn't seem to particularly care that they had messed up several times, and in fact, tried to blame my husband for not knowing that they could not provide the service they initially said they COULD DO.
