I just went to this store today to get my shoes for my wedding. I have been looking everywhere for orange or dyeable shoes I liked. I'd been looking in three states. Most shops will telly you they carry dyeable shoes and they have like 10 pairs. Absurd. On a whim we decided to check out this little place less than a mile from home. Best choice I could have made. They have an entire room of evening and dyeable shoes. They easily had 200 pairs of dyeable shoes ranging from 40-200 dollars (most seemed to be about 60). Everything from super conservative looking shoes to very fun, modern shoes to shoes, short heels to sky high heels, simple to all dazzled up. The staff was super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I'm pretty sure it was three generations of a family working there. Always a nice feeling to support a local mom and pop business. I would definitely recommend going here for any special occasion shoes. read more

I'd give it zero stars if i could. Last week, 1/11/13 I purchased a pair of $160 lace Brianna Leigh peep-toe pumps for my wedding in May. I'm from the neighborhood so I popped in the store, saw them and fell in love. It's an adorable shoe, that I thought I'd surely wear down the aisle on my wedding day. However, that weekend while shopping I found a different pair of shoes that match near exact to my dress and had to make a decision. Naturally I decided to return the shoes to South Philly Shoes since the others were such a better match. I looked at the receipt for a return policy before going in. Stamped across the front is "NO CASH REFUNDS". I bought with a charge - no problem! So I went to return the shoe today, 1/16/2013, just 5 days after purchasing. I hadn't even taken them out of the box. Immediately the two women in the store (who where both there when I purchased the shoes) told me there are no cash refunds. I said that was okay, I bought them with a credit card and would gladly take the refund on the charge. Now, I too am a small business owner and know the risks and costs of running a small business. But treating my customers and clients with little to no respect, no flexibility and no understanding is certainly not the way I do business. Needless to say, I support small businesses as much as I can. I shop Passyunk Ave to do my part and contribute and thus, shopped South Philly Shoes in the first place to ensure that if I'm going to spend money anyway, why not support the local/small businesses. The owners/managers/whoever the snide ladies behind the counter are launched into a full on rant about how expensive it is to run the credit card machine, how each time money goes into the register, it goes right out to pay bills, that the recession has hit them very hard and they don't have the money to refund me or anyone and that is the way it has been for 32 years. They insisted that a stamp on the receipt that says "NO CASH REFUNDS" is the same as NO REFUNDS, which it is plainly not. It is, to me, very specifically NO CASH REFUNDS as it clearly is stamped. Unfortunately, these are the risks and costs of running a small business and it is really hard to believe that in 32 years not one person has received a refund from this place as they suggest. It's sad to say that this is why people shop big box and department stores. I won't let this situation leave a bad taste for all small businesses of course, but definitely for this one. I stood there a few minutes to plead my case - it's not the same, it's a charge refund not cash, it's less than a week that I've had them in my possession, I don't need them, nor do i need a store credit because I now have shoes etc. etc. and to no avail. She avoided eye contact, told me that if I wanted to stand there and fight her I could but it wouldn't make a difference, quickly wrote out my store credit, handed it to me and said if I didn't want it, to give it to my mother or someone. I have purchased shoes there last year for my sister-in-law's wedding, 3 of 5 proms and other events and I will not be returning to this store. Each time I find that I could kick myself for going back, the staff is rude and snobby despite the shop being completely run-down and a complete and utter mess. Their bridal selection is vast but has grown cheesy over the years, everything else in the store is as another poster said "tacky". I am disputing the charge with my bank to at least have some support. Ridiculous that a business can conduct itself like this no wonder they are in such poor shape as they say. Go elsewhere, there are tons of great local small businesses and boutiques around the city, this is not one of them. read more

I just went to this store the other day with some girls from my bridal party to buy shoes for my wedding, the selection was unbelievable. good wedding shoes are so hard to find (believe me, I've been through it all, going from store to store and leaving unhappy because i could not find shoes), and when I walked into this store, the staff was beyond helpful and catered to me and my bridal parties needs. there is one section completely dedicated to the bride, the bridal party, mother of the bride, etc, that is FILLED with shoes that fit practically everyone's taste. I easily found a pair of shoes, and so did my girls, which were dyed (and the woman who works there custom dyes the shoes and matches your swatch perfectly). in the end, we were all very satisfied the the shoes were magnificent ! the store is small, and cramped, and there are shoes literally everywhere you turn, but its a shoe store in philadelphia, and almost expected. I would definitely recommend this store to any woman, as it fits every womans needs, even little women as well! my flower girl got her shoes there as well! I give it two thumbs up. read more

I definitely agree with the previous poster who said this place is inexpensive, easy & has a good selection. They have an entire room dedicated to bridal/special occasion dyeable shoes. This is really the only part of the store wirth visiting, as the rest of their merchandise looks pretty tacky. However, the shop is a complete & total wreck. I almost tripped & broke my neck like 5 times while I was in there. Complete cluttered mess. Also, the employees are pretty nasty. When my mom kindly inqured about the color of her shoes (her dress was a tricky color to match) the lady pretty much snapped at her & said "I have been dying shoes for 30 years, how long have you been at it?" Completely unnecessary. Also, the lady who gets the shoes in your size from the back acts as if every request is a complete inconvenience. Despite the mess and the south philly attitudes, they have the best selection around, and the colors did come out great. I would go back, and just watch where I am walking. read more

Upon entering the store I was a little taken aback how small the store was. But good things come in small packages. All of the bridal party was able to find the shoes they needed in less than 15 minutes. That must be a world record for a store purchase of 6 women! The prices were comparable and they had a vast variety of any knd of shoe you could be looking for. From contemporary to old fashioned. But my best experience was when after an hour into the wedding the heel on my shoe broke. I thought that i was going to get the run around about why they could not take the shoe back. No such thing. JoAnne was a true business woman. She accepted my defective shoe and gave me a number of options as to how we could resolve the problem. Needless to say I as a very satisfied customer and will be returning there often. read more

I have searched store after store for bridal shoes. I went to King of Prussia, multiple department stores, David's bridal, but the selections were always small. I was astonished when I went to South Philly Style shoes. There's a whole section for bridal shoes and there is so much variety! The employees were very helpful and patient, and they brought out shoe after shoe for me. I am so happy with my purchase and I would highly recommend this store for any bridal, prom, or formal shoe! read more

Customer service is not their specialty. Selection is good. Staff is rude, and unkind. Sad that most of their customers are brides who are planning their happiest day and they feel the need to be nasty. Return policy SUCKS. Would not exchange shoes for size because she said bride tried the shoes on after she left store! Found exact same shoe online for $42 less with free shipping and free returns. Kindness goes a long way and you won't get it here. Check out their stock and then go elsewhere. read more
