I'm generally averse to using chain providers for computer repairs. I worry that their technicians won't take data security as seriously as I do, and that, if they break a part or fry a board, it will be harder to convince them to make good on their error, and to fight them if they won't. I haven't had any such problems with Laptops Plus, aka Tech2U. Just as in the old days, when Laptops Plus was a couple of guys working on machines in the tiny Clairemont strip that also hides The Godfather Restaurant, Laptop Plus' service is prompt, attentive, personal, professional and expert. I had a great experience here. My Mac didn't appreciate the coffee I tried to share so I brought it in to be cleaned and hopefully repaired. After a cleanup, Cole explained that it wouldn't start up so he couldn't do more. Turns out it recognized my fingerprint ID and I've got my Mac back. I visited their shop on North MagnoliaAve next to Bumper Doc. they are also Tech4u. I took my 13 year old Apple laptop in as they keyboard was missing letters on 6 keys. I had been quoted$129 to replace by another shop but the honesty of this place was incredible. they ordered a new keyboard which fitted exactly over my current one and it worked perfectly. the total charge for the part and research was $17.00 I highly recommend their services. the honesty of the man who did it I found refreshing to see there are still some honest businesses left in Santee. read more

They changed their name to Tech 2U! Overall a wonderful service, I took a PC tower that wasn't turning on to them and was expecting to leave it at their place overnight to fix. The guy puts it on the desk, and instantly finds the source of the problem in the motherboard and fixes it right up for me. Not only that, the price was really cheap and I was thinking it was going to be more! He was very professional and explained exactly what was going on and he made sure to hook up the computer to a monitor and checked all the temperatures to make sure it's all good. Slow and overpriced service. Took five days to get my desktop fixed whereas other places have gotten similar repairs done in a day. Charged over 2.5 times the retail price for parts so buy any you need before the repair. If you have all the time and money in the world this place is fine. If not, please be warned, ignore the Yelp discount they offer and take your computer elsewhere! IMO your local snake oil salesman would be preferable because at least with them you know you're being swindled from the get go. read more

This was the second time I used Laptops Plus and I received great service at reasonable prices on both occasions, This time, I had built myself a new computer ( something I've done many times) and unwittingly plugged the CPU into he socket the wrong way. I gave up after 2 failed motherboards and two dead power supplies: Hui quickly isolated the problem and attempted to straighten the CPU pins I had managed to mangle I received incredible service by Hui. Hi was very knowledgeable about the sources of my problems and the things I needed to do to get back on board. I was told via message that they would be able to clean my laptop while I waited but when I took the time to take it in they told me 5 to 7 business days or priority service would be 3 days and had 30 laptops ahead of mine. Also the technician seemed annoyed or bothered that I was there promptly at 9 when they opened. Lights were still all off at the place but door open. They are actually part of Tech 2U now. Absolutely amazing service and outcome. I fried a hard drive in a 2 year old IMac that my external hard drive wasn't backing up. This computer had all my 9 year old sons pics since birth, all of our family vacations, company financials, and more than can be said. Data that was irreplaceable. He was able to run a program that took about a week. Stressful not knowing the outcome. He called me back and was able to recover 85% of 2 TB which included my most important files. Replaced the hard drive with a higher quality product. It's a lot of work as all file names were lost and taking forever but better than the alternative. Pricing was great, knew his stuff more than anyone, and beyond helpful. Lesson learned about backups. They were recommended to me and couldn't recommend them enough! Awesome job!!! read more

Each and every time the customer service has been beyond excellent! The employees are very knowledgeable, and their work is exceptional! Don't waste your time & money by going to a 'big box' computer store! Today I was helped by Gilbert when I took my main computer tower in to be serviced. He was alone in the shop, and was beyond busy. He took time out to listen to my frustration with an issue I had, and quickly diagnosed the problem! A quick repair and I was on my way home with my working 'puter! Incredible service! I plan on returning soon when I receive my tax refund to have another main tower built with all the new features. I had spilled liquid onto my laptop with the some of the keys not working as I kept using so I needed an immediate fix. I forgot to get his name but he told me it is something that is fixable for a good price. Had a quick and easy consultation, and dropped it off with only coming back two days later looking and feeling brand new. This company checked out my broken cell phone. Gilbert wrote a letter for my insurance company, but he did not put it on letterhead. When the insurance company called to verify the information they denied writing the letter. Evidently, they don't usually work on cell phones & Gilbert was afraid he'd lose his job, so he lied. My insurance company accused me fraud & canceled my home owners & auto insurance policies. This has caused me a lot of grief. I will never go back there & I would never recommend them to anyone. If you ever need ANY computer service, GO TO LAPTOPS PLUS. I went in to get a quote on servicing my MacBook Pro (13in-Mid 2012) on Tuesday and turns out I needed a new hard drive. As a teacher getting ready for distance learning, I needed to make sure my 6 year old laptop was up for the job. I was REALLY trying to avoid spending thousands of dollars for a whole new laptop so I wanted to try and update anything that was necessary. I took my laptop in on Wednesday morning when they opened and I got a call THE NEXT DAY saying that it was ready to be picked up. I requested a quote for repairs and promptly received a reply from the owner offering me a discount at any of their locations. How nice! I selected the Santee location since it is very close to my home. My laptop had broken hinges and the screen was going out. This model of laptop (Acer Predator) has expensive parts and is very inconvenient to take apart (I've done it). They had to order the parts and were still able to finish the work in only 4 business days for an excellent price. They even cleaned the fans free of charge, which was very nice because it is very inconvenient to do. I really appreciate how knowledgeable and courteous this business is. I highly recommend this place, I am confident they can fix anything and I will definitely use them for any future computer repairs. On a final note, I do not recommend Acer laptops. read more

Later, when that one gave up the ghost, I was able to buy a refurbished one from them that totally meets my needs. Highly recommend this place! Gil at the Santee location knows his stuff. My laptop needed to have the charging port replaced, which is a complicated job that I tried to do myself with my last laptop a few years ago, and ended up with a completely unusable laptop. So this time I figured I'd go to a pro. Being a computer professional myself, I don't just trust anybody with my laptop. I also had other concerns about my laptop's overall health, which I mentioned to Gil. He ran it through an intense diagnostic, to see if there is any other hardware that needs to be replaced. He had the perfect opportunity to do an upsell, and tell me that a bunch of other stuff needed to be fixed. Instead, he assured me that nothing else needed to be replaced or repaired, and just replaced the charging port, quickly and competently.
