There are many places to take your devices, I for one have had only positive experiences with SD Laptops. Time and time again they have solved my issues and allayed my concerns. Though I can not speak for anyone else, anytime I have to pay for my service, if there were any residual concerns or issues they go out of their way to allow you to bring it back as many times as needed until it is sorted out. I can recall on multiple occasions where, what was needed to be addressed, the "fix" was so simple they didn't even charge me. On my most recent issue, I was having a problem where my issue was reoccurring at home but no where else. LST it was user error, but they were went above and beyond in the services they did provide to eliminate all the other variables. Lastly, they continue to be in business. In response to your me wanting to elaborate here goes. This past time I came in with two external hard drives that I couldn't connect to my laptop. I would plug them in to my computer and it would beep but when i tried to access them they would not show up. The person I dealt with didn't even try to see what could be the reason I couldn't access them only that he offered was to recover the data without even plugging them in and checking. read more

Yes, another danged Five-Star review. My Lenovo laptop was pronounced seriously and unfixably dead at a national electronics store which shall remain unnamed, but has the initials BB. This, despite having paid for a year's worth of their geeky repair services. Instead of a repair, I was immediately shunted over to an eager sales associate manning the HP pavillion and sold a rather expensive new computer. I did this solely because I had been firmly informed that my poor Lenovo had finally earned its place in a recycle bin. Wrong. For less than $200 (plus tax) San Diego Laptops breathed life into my Lenovo. It now works just fine. Everything you've read on Yelp is true. These guys are gold. I have a poorly built Dell laptop (Dell: never again!) and the hinge finally came off. I had previously been able to keep it alive thanks to some YouTube tips from other people who had the same problem, but the plastic finally broke. Brought it in to SD Laptops and they offered to take apart my laptop and get the part number that they'd need to order. They put the laptop back together and returned it to me so I could use it while they waited for the part to come in. They asked me to pay for the part up front, but didn't charge me a penny of labor until the job was done. The next week the part came in, and it was another same day drop off & pick up for them to install the part. I have my laptop back and it's as good as new. Sadly, it's not better than new, and they warned me the laptop will eventually break again since it's poorly made. Great understanding of laptops and was able to talk some tech with them, and I heard them really dumbing things down for clients that didn't have a tech background. Just a great staff and honest work. Would happily use them again. read more

I wish I could join the ranks of the many singing their praises, but my experience was, unfortunately, much different. The first time I went, it went down pretty well. After being reminded multiple times by a rather annoyed employee that no matter what, the meter started at $99, they successfully repaired my operating system. That's why I went back. But the second time? Not so much. I had cracked the bottom of my laptop casing and the two pieces that make of the casing were causing the bottom of the laptop to snap open. But now, felt like I knew where to go. When I brought it in, I also asked that he - a different, much more personable guy - look at the mouse because it was jamming up and to take a look at the fan because occasionally the bottom of the laptop would get warm. He agreed to. When I got the computer back, I founded out he needed to replace the top part of the casing (the piece that fits around the keyboard, mouse, etc.) but that the piece he found had a small design flaw. That, of course, didn't factor into the price but I figured I could live with it. A couple of months later, I found myself in exactly the same place I started: the laptop casing wouldn't fully close. Further, it was clear they never looked either a) the mouse issue nor b) the fan issue. I know, I know, I should have gone back to see if they would fix what they clearly hadn't. But with so many computer services out there, I figured I have choices. And a lot of them don't start off with, "We charge $99 regardless of the issue and whether we fix it or not." read more

$99 to reset to factory settings! My Hp Envy360 got a virus and i was getting some unknown connections on my WiFi. I contacted SD Laptops since it had good reviews. When I spoke with the guy on the phone. I told him I have some malware on my laptop my windows says manage by administrator.I said I think the problem is with my network is it something that you would need to come to my house or can I just bring it in. He said to bring it in. I took my laptop I explained to him what was going on and he just said i can clean it up for you I'll have it ready by 1:30. He reset my laptop the problem is still with my network.I'm still having trouble with my network. If I had known all you guys were going to do was reset to factory settings I would of saved $100 read more

Horrible customer service. I dropped my laptop off on 7/15 with a broken screen and an OS that moved at the speed of molasses in a Chicago winter. I was quoted 2 weeks to get the job done. I received a call on 7/17 that it was indeed a bad screen and they could order a new one and have the system backed up and everything reinstalled early the following week. I waited until 7/25 to call back and inquire about my laptop. I was again told they were currently backing up the system and preparing to reinstall it and that my laptop would be ready, "early next week". So I waited again until 8/1 to call and ask about my laptop - I'm a professor at a University and run an online business - going 17 days without my laptop is rough. I can't do everything from my phone, so of course I was chomping at the bit to get it back! I was told by Cameron that they were reinstalling everything and that it would be ready by the end of the day. Today, 8/2, 18 days later I was aggravated by the lack of communication but continued response of, "early next week" when I call. I needed my laptop for several things the last couple days and I knew it was supposed to be ready yesterday, so when I was told at 9:31am that they were still reinstalling everything back onto my computer I lost it a little. I got a snarky comment about how much data needed to be loaded back onto my computer and was told I'd get a call back in about an hour with an estimated finish time. When I called back again at 1:00pm I was told it would be 1 more hour. Imagine my surprise when I got a call at 1:58pm that it was ready for pick up. When I arrived to pick it up, the guy who was at the counter asked the other guy if he was going to grab it and he said, "Nah, I'm headed home" wow! Underwhelm the people with customer service is what I always say. They did not open it up and show me the screen or show that it was sped up. Just charged me. I had the Yelp check in coupon that shows $10 for repair service but was instead given $10 off. So instead of $89 off I got $10 off. The computer runs much better - like 4.25 for the fix, 1.0 for the customer service. There are a ton of repair shops in SD, I chose this one because of the tons of great reviews. Wish my experience lived up to the perception. Use your own judgement, maybe I had a 1 in 100 bad experience, or maybe the less than favorable reviews just disappear off their reviews. read more

Found them on Yelp and called to inquire about a keyboard replacement for a Dell laptop and a mystery noise on an HP. They said they could help, so I brought the computers in. Within seconds of hearing the sound the HP was making, they were able to diagnose the mystery noise as a problem with lubricant in the fan. A day after drop-off they were able to provide quotes for repairs involving either new or used parts, and we were able to pick up our computers ahead of schedule! I had a Dell XPS 13 with a dead battery. I ordered a new battery from Amazon. Unfortunately, you have to remove 8 small screws to access the battery compartment. While trying to remove the small screws, 2 of them would not come out. I tried everything, rubber band, super glue, aluminum foil, a screw extractor. The screws were stripped and would not come out. I brought my laptop to SD Laptops to see if they could help. Within 2 minutes they were able to remove the two screws. I ask the tech to put in the new battery which required more screws to be removed. Within 5 minutes, the new battery was installed. He tested the battery to make sure it would hold a charge. I was amazed by the prompt, courteous and efficient service. As a former IT professional, I highly recommend their service. I am so very pleased to have access to my laptop again. read more

I came in because my hard drive went bad and I desperately needed some of the files off of it. Was going to go to Geek Squad but thought I would give the local place a try. I forgot his name, but the guy helping me was awesome. Clearly explained everything, more than accommodating, dealt with my less than stellar attitude while thinking I may have just lost a lot of important stuff, and got to work quick. Within a few hours I had a replaced hard drive with all my files back for a price much lower than I anticipated paying. My old apple MacBook air from 2014 stopped working. I shopped around town for prices and this was the best price for someone who doesn't know exactly what's wrong with the computer. They told me the hard drive was fried I only had to pay $100 for them to do diagnostics and put all my information off the hard drive and into an external drive. Very fast and professional service--I walked in without an appointment and they checked me in right away, without even laughing at my completely ridiculous windows password. Tragically my laptop processor was irretrievably dead, but SD Laptop Repair quoted me on some amazingly priced replacements. Even though I ultimately decided to move on from this loss and never look back (ordering a better-suited-for-my-needs new device), they did not charge me for the diagnostic service and offered to recycle my laptop for free. This place is amazing. My computer is about 7 years old and needed some love. My Macbook screen was cracked, a key was missing and it was running slow. The Mac store wanted to charge me an outrageous amount to replace the screen. The owner, replaced the screen, replaced the missing key and made it run smoothly...and cleaned it all up. Spilled water on my laptop during finals week and was just too stubborn to buy a new one so I came here. Couldn't get it back before school was over but they did a really great job fixing my old laptop. Only thing Is that y'all should check the specs on your device before leaving! They gave me a lower end processor for my laptop but I caught it before I left. Start up your laptop and make sure everything runs smoothly! They held it for another week to get the correct part but I understand its an old laptop and its kinda hard to find the parts!
