But the service was super friendly and quick so we were relieved. Salsa is the more watery type, not super spicy almost had a sweet flavor. Queso was good and the chips were my favorite. I had the carne guisada and I LOVED it! Also had a soft beef taco and that I wasn't really a fan of. It just wasn't the type of ground beef I'm used to in a taco, was more of a paste. Husband had the fajita plate which he enjoyed. Son had the queso burger, he was so excited but mixed reactions on it. The patty was surely frozen and didn't have much flavor but the addition of the queso and mushrooms made it yummy. My girls had the usual of chicken tenders, one liked them one did not. They were more of a panko breading tender and were a little over friend so kind of chewy. Bathrooms were clean, restaurant was clean and had cute little bursts of decor. Overall it was a safe pick, wasn't our favorite but a good option for a quick meal on the road. Leaning towards 3 stars because it wasn't amazing food but giving 4 for cleanliness, service and overall experience. We would go back.

"Authentic Southern-Fried Seafood Done Just Right" 08-04-2025…read more A huge shoutout to the cooks at Baffin Bay Seafood! These guys seriously know how to throw down in the kitchen. If you're craving fresh, authentic southern fried seafood, look no further; this is the spot. My husband and I stumbled across Baffin Bay on our way back to Houston from Edinburg, Texas. We were starving, craving some good ol' fried seafood, and after scouring the web, this baby popped up about an hour's drive away from Edinburg. By the time we arrived, our appetites were in high gear, and let me tell you, the wait was worth every mile. From the very first bite, we knew we'd hit the jackpot. Hubby and I were beyond satisfied that we chose this place over all the other options that Yelp had to offer. The rave reviews are well-deserved, and those food photos online? They don't lie. I could practically smell and taste the fried black drum fillets through the screen, and the real thing delivered even more flavor than I imagined. The atmosphere had that warm, small-town vibe where everyone knows everyone, reminded me a little of that series, "Dawson's Creek." We were greeted by the nicest woman (wish I had gotten her name), and right away we felt at home. Now, don't be fooled by the outside of the building, it might not look like much, but we all know the saying, "Looks can be deceiving." Inside, it's cozy but not cramped, with patio seating option that overlooks the bay. The view is calm and peaceful, the perfect backdrop for good food and drinks. Sadly, we didn't have time to sit and linger, but believe me, I was eyeing that bar! They had some of my favorites stocked on the shelf, Tito's Vodka, Apple Crown Royal, and 1800 Silver. Next time, I'm planting myself on a barstool and unwinding with a cocktail or two. Food Ratings: Fried Red Fish- 5/5 - Fried to Crispy-Golden-Brown Perfection! Fried Shrimp - 5/5 - Fried to Crispy-Golden-Brown Perfection! Redfish Po'Boy - 5/5: Fully loaded, fresh veggies, golden-brown toasted hoagie: mouthwatering. Fried Onion Rings - 5/5: Authentic and hand-cut, not the frozen stuff. Fried Okra- 5/5 - Tasted super fresh like they had been picked straight from the garden. Steamed Broccoli- 5/5: Perfectly cooked, tender but still with a crunch. Tartar Sauce- 5/5: Tangy, bold, and packed with flavor (a little strong on the onion, which I loved). Hubby went with the fried redfish Po'Boy and fried okra. He originally wanted black drum, but since they were out, he settled for the red, and he swears it was the BEST Po'Boy he's ever had. We both agreed that they are very generous with their portion sizes. I ordered the Take Two Fried Platter which comes with shrimp and your choice of fish (red, cat, or black drum), accompanied by two sides; I opted our for steamed broccoli and fried onion rings with the red fish. Everything came out hot, fresh, and fried to absolute perfection. Not a single bite disappointed. Bottom line: this place is the real deal. If you're near the Gulf of Mexico and want authentic, down-in-the-Valley, southern fried seafood, make Baffin Bay Seafood your go-to because this is the place to get it! I'm already planning my return visit. Highly, highly recommended; you will not be disappointed! Guaranteed.

They also have truck parking next to the restaurant that not a lot of people realize. I walked in and was greeted immediately by very nice and professional staff. But of course if you know me, you know I chose to sit at the bar. They were playing some soccer game on the TV. I don't watch sports so doesn't matter to me what's on the TV. My bartender greeted me IMMEDIATELY and took my drink order, and gave me a menu. This guy was on his game! Very attentive, engaged in banter. Couldn't be happier with my bar experience all together. I'm on a no-carb kick, so It can be challenging sometimes to find carb-free options at Mexican restaurants, since all the good stuff and fun stuff to eat like tortillas, rice, beans, and other fried dishes are plentiful. But I noticed they had a Molcajete! (For those don't know what that is, it's essentially a bowl carved out of volcano rock, and then heated up with various meats and other ingredients, served SUPER HOT). My molcajete came with pretty good size shrimp, beef, chicken, couple slices of mozzarella type cheese, pico and other stuff in the bottom. The bartender asked me if I wanted to substitute my rice and beans for avocado and pico, which I did. I ate my avocado and put the pico into my molcajete. I am a faithful consumer of tajin, and tapatio. BUT They didn't have tap! They only have Cholula. The bartender told me he keeps requesting it, but never gets it, so cholulah it was. My molcajete was super hot, boiling like it should be, really flavorful. All together really good. I did notice The Rock wasn't as deep as other Mexican restaurants I've been to that served it, and didn't have a couple other little things in it that other Mexican restaurants too, but it was still good nonetheless and a perfect portion size for me. I didn't realize they close at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday because I planned on having supper there again tonight, so I will be stopping in the next time I come down to this part of Texas! Thank you Taqueria Jalisco! Maybe next time I'll have a cheat day and eat something carby! Think of this spot as cafeteria style service, where you pick you meal served on a tray and then pay before you eat. The owners were extremely kind, letting me try the different curries (with the rice too!) and chicken before I decided on my meal. I chose the medium size meal which consisted of two entrees and rice. Butter Chicken - 8/10, I really liked this. Smooth and flavorful, and tender pieces of chicken. Chicken 65 - 10/10, delicious, crispy, sweet and not spicy at all. Reminded me of orange chicken, so an automatic 10. Mango Lassi - 10/10, not too thick, which I appreciate. Strong mango flavor and balanced my meal perfect. Garlic naan - 6.5/10, naan was pretty thick to my liking. But others may enjoy it. It was a good complement to the curries.
