Wonderful service! Fantastic food! Reasonably priced! Casual yet romantic setting thats still family friendly! We had the best waitress I have had in many years at any restaraunt!!! My husband is a joker and she joked back and was happy go lucky personality was what made this trip A+++ F Prime rib had great flavor and my king crab was the largest I have gotten in any restaraunt in years! It had been 10 years since I had been here and I am sure we will be going back regularly. Chain restaurants took over and are over rated, The Lariat has proved the test of time and its obvious why! We need to patronize the independent guys, thats where the quality is and top notch service! I wish I remembered our waitresses name because she made this experience perfect and I love it when they will joke back with my hubby who is a character all the time and some dont react and get hes joking she was witty and we had a blast! It was later at night and we were never rushed or felt we were keeping them there. She asked if we would like desert, or a desert iecream drink since I started with a yummy grasshopper lol since few places make them. This is restaraunt EVERYONE needs to try or go back to! I would give this place zero stars if I could we were seated right away and sat there for at least 15 minutes with no acknowledgement whatsoever. When we told the manager upon leaving he gave us a half-hearted sorry and seemed to not care that they were losing two guests. Went to another steakhouse in the area and the service could not have been better. Definitely won't be back. read more

The directions from yelp when I followed them were incorrect. I did let them know so hopefully they will update it. We had to type the address in. We had a very large group (25) from out of town. They gave us a private party room. It is a very nice interior. We loved the fresh bread and cinnamon butter. A nice full bar and great wine selection. I want to first say the food was delicious, great job to the chef. However, I haven't experienced what I can only describe as discrimination from our waitress the entire time we were there. It did not take long for us to be seated, which was wonderful. After being seated, it took 15 minutes just to get glasses of water. Then we notice our waitress just standing across the room staring at us. After about another 10 minutes she went to the table next to us. Then, she walked back to the place across the room where she was standing and continued staring at us. After a total of a 26 minute wait, the waitress finally came to the table to introduce herself and ask what we could get started. We weren't bought bread until well into our appetizers and that took 35 minutes. The meals we orders were not complicated therefore, there wasnt much the waitress had to do. I was just under the impression she assumed we wouldn' tip so 'why give good service or be attentive?' As soon as our food came we attempted to get her to come over for some to go container as it had been an hour and a half we had been sitting without any updates. He had to flag her down as she continued to pass our table without acknowledging us. After the to go trays we had to flag her down again for the check. We have spent way more money at a restaurant and as long as the food and service is good we never mind because then, it is wort it. Needless to say our $140 bill was paid tip-less with the note to give better service. I have never not provided a tip and had her service been at least standard, she would have received a very good tip. If anything I would have tipped the busboy if I could have due to him being the only person we could get the attention of. He bought us the extra to go containers upon request. I cannot say this was a good experience although, it was good food. I also cannot say that we will be back. I guess we can say we tried it. read more

We came into Peoria to celebrate a weekend with my daughter who is a student at Bradley University. From the moment we walked in the door, Joanne was a delight. She even went above and beyond to make sure we were good after our rental car front tires were surrounded by ice and got us some salt so we would not be stuck. She was attentive and just awesome. Rib eye, T-bone, filet mignon--whatever--they are all quality cuts and minimally seasoned as to give you the true flavor of the steak. Some seafood options. Not many veg options besides salads and maybe one pasta dish. This week I had the crab legs which come with a hot butter sauce that rocks! On the lookout for a good steak closer to us than Sky Harbor and the Lariat popped into our heads! The crowd was a little thin for a Friday night which is too bad because the food was spot on. The remodeled entry/bar and main dining room belong to two different restaurants. The bar is a huge mostly empty room with floor to ceiling windows and a very modern bar area. The dining room is straight out of the early 80's, all cosy dark wood and patterned carpet. We were sat right away and given menus by the hostess. We decided to order wine and our server was really great about getting us samples, even going back a second time! I wasn't impressed by the bread, it was extremely crusty and made a giant mess on the table. I prefer a savory butter like chive or garlic so the brown sugar in it wasn't my fav. I started with the French onion soup which was sooo hot but very tasty. Wasn't too salty which can be a frequent problem. The salad was lackluster and swimming in dressing, ask for it on the side! The prime rib was juicy and tender with a very delish au jus in the pan. The horseradish was extremely mild, seemed mixed with mayo maybe? The strip steak was cooked perfectly at every point, even near the edges! Both our potatoes were just okay, the au gratins were much too cheesy to be real au gratin but were still tasty. The baked was pretty dry but dressed up with butter and sour cream, it was fine. Our server was great and checked on us enough but not too much. I have been to Lariat for dinner and the steaks are excellent. This review is more about lunch. The lunch menu has plenty to choose from. The portions are more than enough and they will substitute or upgrade iTems, such as french fries instead of chips. The prices at lunchtime are mainly under $10 which is reasonable. I recommend the pot roast and the meatloaf. The pot roast is a large portion with mashed potatoes and a vegetable. On a cold winters day it is the perfect comfort food lunch. The meatloaf falls into this category too and it has a tangy sauce which really makes it good. The chicken salad on croissant was somewhat ordinary. The chili uses real meat and by that I mean chunks of sirloin as opposed to ground beef. The chili was good if you like your chili liquidy - thin. If you want it thick then this is not for you. I order lunch here often and recommend it highly. read more

This place was recxomended to me by a lady i sat next to on thr flight in. She seemed educated and refined enough. It doesn't come as a suprise that there were no yelps about this paticular establisment , even though it boasts having been here since 1940. I don't believe there has been any updates in decore since the grand opening. The decor didn't bother me as much as the grown man smacking his food constantly. I have only finished my salad and I am About to vomit. I have run through knee deep swamps in full combat gear and made less noise. His wife should smack him.... And his momma too. OMG she ordered the ribs... Dammit and I am wearing a nice shirt too ... Oh good she's Blowing her nose now that her meal has arrived. No wonder she tolerates Him.... She's a hog too. We tried the Lariat tonight for the first time and it will probably be the only time. My girlfriend ordered a glass of wine which she never received. She also ordered the regular size Ribeye medium rare. It came almost well done. It also didn't look like a Ribeye. There was no marbling and it had no flavor whatsoever. I ordered the seafood platter which was suppose to be broiled. It was just drenched in butter and also had no flavor. All you tasted was butter. We paid top dollar for terrible food. We could have gotten better food at a Burger King and saved our money. read more

My husband and I frequent Peoria often however had never had the time to eat at Lariat. We decided to go on New Years Eve. What a letdown! There were four of us and none of our steaks came as ordered. I ordered medium well and it come out very well done! Well my cousin likes hers that way so we exchanged steaks thinking maybe I got hers. No deal...they were all over cooked. Also they serve steaks on these sizzling platters....two reasons why this is not the best idea...1. Your steak continues to cook, and 2. both me and my cousin burned our fingers! The room was very dark and we just didn't see the metal parts of the platter nor were we warned by our server. My cousin's thumb burn was pretty painful and they offered a burn salve which took about 10mins to bring. Hmmmmm? Never had to have burn ointment in a restaurant...seems like a problem. Kudos to the salve...it worked quickly! Also, my baked potato seemed like it had been baked early in the day and warmed for dinner. Hubby and another cousin chose the rice. They weren't told that it would be wild rice..neither of them ate it. Although I did like the rice. We also ordered sautéed mushrooms which were horribly mushy and over salted. Two items were delicious...the starter Goulash soup, and steak fries! Warning...cocktails were missing liquor (or so it seemed). I ordered a Cosmo and received a glass of cranberry juice with lime! We have enjoyed steak dinners at several restaurants (Alexander's, Jim's Bistro, Longhorn) in Peoria and have never had such a bad experience. Recommendation for Lariat...SEASON your steaks. All we tasted was chewy, dry, tough meat disguised as ribeyes that tasted like the grill. Expensive flavorless steaks! How does a steakhouse that has been in business for so many years destroy Ribeyes??? Our server was good other than the time it took to bring the burn ointment. We did leave her a nice tip...the food wasn't her fault! One funny note...we got ToGo boxes just because too much money had been wasted. I just couldn't take mine and left it on the table. Well, our bus girl ran out the door to bring my steak...we all yelled Oh No! We laughed all night about the stalker steak that wouldn't go away! read more

It is really sad when you ask for a cocktail menu and the server informs you we have a full bar and the bartender can make whatever. This is a lie. Bartenders in this town are a joke. I had dinner here last night with three other people. We had a wonderful evening with great service by Marcia. I had the bacon wrapped filet with a potato and a house salad. They also serve bread. I had then throw on three fried shrimp. Everything was great. The steak was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. The outside doesn't look all that great but the inside is just fine. It is not fine dining but it is a class above all the chain places and the food is obviously of higher quality. The othe people in my party were equally pleased. Food: Prices online do not reflect those on the current menu. The bread was fantastic with the honey butter as well as our appetizer of cocktail shrimp. However, steak ordered "medium" came back very rare and had to be sent back. Food was placed on our table by a server, then removed after the waitress said it was the wrong table, then returned after she determined it was the order for our table. Atmosphere: We were seated in what looked like an overflow banquet room, even though the main dining area was empty. Should have been told at reservation time that main area was unavailable. One of our chairs felt like it was being kicked every time someone walked behind it (floor board problem?). Service: Wait staff was friendly, but see food comments. To start off my meal I ordered my muchachos and I a order of potato skins and they were frozen we sent them back and they came back burnt. Tonight was my first time eating at Lariat and it was okay. I really loved the bacon wrapped shrimp, selection of wine and homemade butter. The service was great as well. I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf and mashed potatoes which were good, not blown away but not bad. The nostalgic décor of this local supper club is a comfortable reminder of the restaurants we went to as children when it seemed like everyone knew everyone. The staff at the Lariat has been there forever which is to it's advantage. Consistently good food - try the au gratin potatoes extra done - they're delicious! haven't been here in a few years so I thought I would bring two of my kids along with us. Waited a while for a server to acknowledge us. Drinks were OK appetizers were OK soup and salad was OK. Seemed to take a long time to get our meal. Two orders of fillet and crab legs one order of fillet and lobster and one order of shish kebabs. The fillet was OK the shish kebabs were OK. The crab legs about like a spaghetti noodle and the shell wouldn't even crack. As far as I'm concerned they never should have come out of the kitchen that way.Usually not one for sending back food because I know what happens to it when you do. My husband and I did not like our experience here. We had drinks at the bar while we waited 45 minutes for our table. We tried the fried basket appetizer, it was okay. Our salads were okay. I ordered my steak well-done, and it was so well done I could hardly cut into it. I, nor my husband, ate more than a couple bites of our food. The waitress, who had seemed very nice this whole time, seemed to be lost when she realized we didn't like our meals. The only "I'm sorry" we received was that one of our drinks from the bar was forgotten on the ticket. When we brought it to her attention she said it was the least they could do since we didn't like our meal. Won't be giving this place another try. HORRIBLE FOOD and UNACCEPTABLE SERVICE! CAUTION... this restaurant is terrible in numerous ways. We went here for a rehearsal dinner a few weeks ago and we were SO DISAPPOINTED. The steaks were choice grade and were super rubbery and incredibly bland... I had to put a TON of salt and pepper on my steak. My husband had to drown it in A1 sauce and the ribeye was super fatty. The horrible food was overshadowed by the even more abysmal service. We had to continually flag down our server after he disappeared constantly throughout our meal. When it was all said and done, people in our party had to physically walk up to the bar outside the banquet room to order their own alcoholic beverages... UNACCEPTABLE! NEVER AGAIN! Looked up Steak places in the area while on a buisness trip and I picked the Lariat because I did not want the regular chain steak place. I had a sirloin cooked medium rare and it came just as ordered sizzeling on a black pan...nice. Came wirh baked potato, salad and bread on a board. Everything was good and I was happy...if I had anything to change, (this is just my opinion) it would be two things. 1) I should have ordered the salad dressing on the side as their was too much on it and 2) The lighting was very dark. Well well... Decided to bring my whole family here for my Birthday today after last year and that meal was not good, we figured on giving it 1 last chance. 13 of us came and spent $600 tonight. Everyone with us had bad Steaks, cooked wrong, all were too done (we all ordered Med Rare) and to be honest the worst Steaks we have ever had. I would recommend Bob Evan's 10 times over this place anymore. When I dine and spend $35 for a steak, I expect the best in town and this was a tough steak that you had to saw through and chew it like it was life or death. My other guest were asking for A1 as the meat was nothing at all to brag about, not seasoned and tough as a Kroger's brand. Serving 6 steak fries with a meal is not a meal FYI, I am beyond impressed by the quality. Asparagus came not cooked, No seasoning and just no excuse for a place of this statue. I could go on and on, but I can say this will never be on my list or a place that I recommend to anyone. read more

Haven't eaten at the Lariat for about 15 years. It is still a pretty great place. Updated, but managed to retain a good deal of the original character. We had better service tonight than I have had in the past, from the instant acknowledgedment of our presence by a clean, we'll dressed, professional host to the waitress greeting us in under a minute of is taking out seat. The server was friendly and familiar, but not too. The server's assistant was also on her game. The meal came with a nice warm loaf of wonder bread like bread with sweetened cinnamon butter. The salads were adequate with a generous serving of blue cheese crumbles to accompany the Roquefort dressing (an additional $1 up charge). The fried app assortment was tasty and more than the three of us could finish. Baked potatoes were spot on, cooked properly, the skins were clean enough to eat, and there was more than enough butter and sour cream with fresh chives (a nice touch). Hard to hate a meal like this, however, the steaks were bad. Ribeye and NY Strip, both tough and dry, neither particular tasty. Prime rib was alright. Wouldn't normally hammer a restaurant after one bad meal, but 1) it was two bad steaks, 2) don't come here often, and 3) thought the service deserved recognition as some of the best I've had in Peoria. read more

I was seriously underwhelmed by the Lariat. All of the food was bland, and the cheap metal plates they serve your steak on give the meat an acrid metallic taste. A place like this that wants to serve your steak "sizzling" needs to invest in some cast iron serving plates to keep the taste of the plate away from the food. The atmosphere was also a bit too dark for my tastes, but the service was friendly. Overall, I'd recommend skipping this place. I don't plan on coming back any time soon. read more

Based on the price/quality this restaurant lacks in many ways. The steaks in general, and we had 3 different ones were tasteless, dry and burnt. The sides were small and tasteless. We order a bottle of wine ($42) and it was served in a white wine glass, we asked the server for a bigger glass but it wasn't any better. The bottle was brought open to the table instead of opening at the table. Server had no concept of wines or even how to pour our glasses. Busboy, not trained properly on how to approach a table or clear one. Desserts, chocolate cake was was very dry. Staff starting from hostess could be trained better, bar area needs ambiance, more tables a more welcoming atmosphere. It seem we were walking into an abandoned building. One of my favorite restaurants for 40 years. So chose it to celebrate my birthday tonight. Terrible experience. Started with the waitress trying to tell us the thousand island dressing on our salad was their homemade Roquefort dressing. Really? I've been eating this dressing for years, before she was even born, and it has never looked or tasted like thousand island dressing. Made even worse when we saw a table close to us being served salads with the real homemade Roquefort dressing. Then out came my filet ordered medium but so rare I couldn't eat it. Brought it home to cook to medium. So very disappointed! read more

We sat in the bar, sparsely appointed and sporting a few tvs. Some regulars enjoyed a few drinks while I had a burger, (not in a steak mood.) it's was fine, nothing spectacular and came with fries. With a soft drink and tip it was around$12. Our server was friendly and brought us 2 hot loaves of fresh bread. My friend had a regular cut steak and potato. He thanked us repeatedly for coming. All in all a great place for a quick bite and no pretentious nonsense some steak houses pride themselves in. read more

I really wanted to like this place - but sadly it just wasn't that good. One of us tried a steak and 2 of us tried the pork chop special. The pork chop was tasteless. The steak was mediocre. The potatoe au gratin were burned and the cheese was the orange stuff you get at a ball game. The salad had brown lettuce and the bread was dry and tasted old. We did not enjoy the food. The restaurant itself is very nice and clean. The wait staff attentive. BUT...they need to pick up their game on the food. read more
