Is there any way to put 6 stars? This dental office is a hidden gem tucked away in a quaint DC community. I've been to many dentists. Over the past 40 years and this one is by far the best. Dr. McNair has the softest touch with great precession. I've been to so many dentists that manhandled my mouth. Shouldn't that be a qualification for a dental licence? I'm assuming it must not be required because my last few dentists handled my mouth like they were trained using ice picks. Not Dr. McNair. He was a breath of fresh air. The setting is a cozy home converted into a dental office. Before I arrived I was a little skeptical because I was walking into what appeared to be a residential home. Much to my pleasant surprise I found a fully equipped dental pracfice with a creative and effective layout. The staff were welcoming, informative, and professional. What is going on with Dr. Mcnair's practice? I've been to him several times over the years and always had excellent, respectful experiences. My health insurance assigned me to Larry McNair and I must say in the beginning I wasn't excited. I became concerned with the lengthy wait but all I can say is "Wow". I had the best experience ever I was having a tooth pulled and with the jazz music, massage chair and new techniques he practices I never felt a thing. The worst dental practice I have ever been to. It has a 'mom & pop' vibe going on. The receptionists/hygienists are poorly trained and unprofessional. One of them is extremely heavy-handed and not gentle at all. The way the office is run is fraudulent and the service is a no-no. I was told that my insurance would cover the work I needed done. At the end of my appointment, which lasted five hours only 45 minutes of which I was actually seen, I was charged not only for the work that was done but also work that was to be done at my next appointment. They did not accept my insurance as they had told me before (and denied that they ever told me so), basically tricking me into being treated there as opposed to a dentist in my network. The receptionists don't have your bill ready once you're done, causing you to wait an extra 15-20 minutes while they try to figure out what to charge you for. I don't know how a doctor expects to have a long and prosperous career when they try to cheat and mistreat their patients. I hope Dr. McNair reads this (and the other reviews) and makes an effort toward a better practice. read more

My initial consult was cool. The assistant was very sweet and caring and assured me that Dr. McNair was the best, and painless. After an xray, i was told that i needed 4 teeth removed in three separate sittings. They made my first appointment and i returned. I arrived 20 minutes early, and had to wait a hour n a half before being seen. once taken into the room the assistant gave me my sedation medicine, and a blanket and left me to wait. The Dr came in about 20 minutes later and began with a anesthesia shot. Long story short, he spent 5 hours in my mouth and gave me 7 or 8 different shots because the anesthesia kept waring off. only to tell me at the end of the torture that he couldn't get the tooth out. I began to cry and he just stared like a deer caught in head lights. he proceeded to write me a extra prescription for Tylenol 3 (the bottle says take 1 every six hours but he advised me i would need to take two at a time) He even asked me if i wanted another anesthesia shot as i was leaving! That's when i knew something was horribly wrong. Its been five days, and i have been calling their office non stop they are seemingly ignoring my calls. the last person i spoke to promised me they were trying to find me an appointment with a oral surgeon and i would get a call back in a few hours. That was four days ago still no call. My gums are swollen and split and irritated and I am having the worst kind of trouble finding a surgeon that can correct his mistake. I am definitely suing him for malpractice and i don't suggest anyone go there for any reason. read more

Hello, About, 6 years ago I had dental work done you name it I had it such as tooth extract, fillings, root canal a new bridge and partial plates so you know this was quite a bit of money just say a lot of money. To say that I was not please and decided to change dentist. Last week it felt like I had a toothache but that could not be possible because I had a bridge on that side (right) and had a root canal done. My gums started to swell and I was in a lot of pain. I made appointment with my new dentist and I had a abscess yes the root canal was not completed it still had roots in the canal. So now I have to go to a dental surgeon more money. I'm just saying he (McNair) has to many patients and some times does not take care of what needs to be done. Very nice person and staff very nice. It was sign on the wait time in the receptions area very long hours. But, this will cost me more money for an incomplete job and there is nothing I can. I know why it took so long for this to happen it can effect some and some can get way with a incomplete root canal. I would not recommend him. read more

I also give the one star as others have. I could cite many things I was not comfortable with but the first is an $11 'sterilization charge.' Who in their right mind would think you would need to PAY to have sterile dental instruments? Any dentist so desperate for cash is no dentist of mine. He also told me, based on a panchromatic x-ray, that I needed some fillings. All I read tells me that a pan x-ray is not used to detect cavities. I ran before having any work done by him. read more

I went there to consult the dr. about a possible implant. Waited an hour and a half past my appointment before they took me in. They kept trying to market the"credit" application, and ended up giving me an estimate for a bridge that would cost twice as much as the implant. I am not going back and I won't recommend it to anyone. read more

Doctor McNair's office was a good fit for my tight schedule when I was job searching. I had general cleaning and x-rays, they used 2013 top of the line machines and I never scene good accurate reading like that ever. 2 weeks later I had my cavities refilled and it only taken them 30 minutes. There was a 25 minute wait to be since because of other patients came in before me, but I still highly recommend this dentist. Nice Medicaid co pay. read more

Horrible dishonest practice. First, you'll wait at least an hour to be seen. Then, they won't do anything. A cleaning is literally just them brushing your teeth. No fluoride, no flossing, no nothing. I needed an old filling replaced, and instead of replacing, he just globbed some filling on top of it and overcharged me $250. He didn't file it down or even make sure it didn't go in between my teeth. It started breaking off and has messed up my orthodonture work. When I called to get it fixed, they promised if I came up right then I could be seen, so I drove through rush hour only to wait half an hour and be told it would be another "while." When I finally spoke to the dentist, he told me there were no openings that night...so why did they have me drive up? Also, after calling every day for a week, they finally agreed to refund me the $250 overcharge- but then instead charged it to me again! I really wanted to support a local, independent dentists office, but this group is horrible. Avoid at all costs! read more

A coworker was at work bragging about a dentist ,She is a nervous wreck when it comes to the dentist, When she returned to work the same day talking about how he put her at ease and felt nothing, I had to go. So I went for a visit, Everything she said was true .I am a nervous person I had many bad experiences from other dentist before and was afraid to go, so I didn't for several years , I told them I was nervous ,I sat down , they turned on some nice music and gave me a message on my shoulders and head , talked to me and got my mind off of what was next but Dr. McNair was very gentle talked about what was troubling me , and ask what I would like done and , recommended what I needed I was worried how much and he said he would work with me. I feel if you are in a hurry don't go there when your not, bring a book to read, being fast won't make up for quality service I didn't go there for a pretty office or fancy décor. I read so many bad reviews here and thought they couldn't be right. My first visit was 3 hours, the second 5 hours - to do only 1/3 of a root canal. The scheduled follow-up had me arriving 15 minutes early by taking half a day off work only to be told by a child's voice through the door buzzer that the office was closed. I booked the appoint 3 weeks before the holidays, the office confirmed it via SMS message and then closed on the day of my appointment, 1/2/2015. Extremely unprofessional business practices. Good dentist and the staff are friendly, but it's just not worth it for the foolishness around booking, long office waits, moving from dental chair to dental chair. You can't run a legitimate business this way and succeed. read more

I have been going to Doctor McNair's Dental Office for over a year and have found the experience to be a very pleasant one. The staff is always pleasant, attentive and take the time to make sure I am comfortable and relaxed before each procedure. Doctor McNair is a very professional, warm, and friendly dentist who always has the best interest of his patient at heart. This is by far the worst dental office I have ever been to in my life. The staff is unprofessional, and they over book patients causing you to wait 1 to 2 hours outside of your appointment window to be seen. I went for a cleaning to be followed up by a filling. The cleaning should have sent warning bells up. I mean nothing much was done outside of them brushing my teeth, no plaque removal, flossing nothing. The worst part about it was paying for it. My insurance covers my teeth cleanings twice a year and I pay a co pay of $20 for the office visit but not this dental office. They slapped me with a bill five times that. The fact that they can't get their own billing straight scares me because I have no idea what they charge my insurance company. I waited 45 minutes to be taken back to a chair. Upon being taken back a dental assistant came in put Novocain in my mouth stuffed me full of gauze a tube and left me there. After about an hour in this already uncomfortable position, another dental assistant came in the room for supplies and I asked her when I was going to be seen. She said she didn't know and after checking told me it would be another few minutes the doctor was coming. When she left I waited another 30 minutes at which point I noticed that whatever the dental assistant gave me to numb my gums was completely gone so I took everything out of my mouth and told the dental assistants milling around in the back room that I was leaving. As I am leaving the dentist decides to come down stairs to inform me that I am next. At this time I am steaming. It is ridiculous to go to the dentist for a 4pm appointment and not even be seen by the dentist until about 6:00pm. Why not just make my appointment at 6:00pm. It is inconsiderate of someone's time. I hope they read their reviews and make some needed improvements, however, I will learn from this experience to check up on a dentist before I pay them a visit. read more

Dr Mcnair is the beat dentist I have ever been to. He takes his time and really has a gentle touch. I would definitely refer him to anyone and everyone who needs dental work. I was absolutely pleased and he will now be my dentist. Keep up the outstanding work doc!!!!!! read more
