We have absolutely no complaints. Inside a newer building, the office is clean and nice. The lobby is decorated with D.C. art and photos of willing clients on the wall. (My daughter loves finding her photo and the photos of her school friends.) Restrooms are just outside the lobby door. I submitted a request on their website, and they responded via email the same day with their availability for the next few days. I *hate* talking on the phone, especially to schedule something, so this was an immediate green flag. Second: they actually use the paperwork you submit in advance! None of this nonsense where you fill out tons of paperwork ahead of your appointment only to be handed a clipboard and asked to do it all over again in person. Third: everybody, from Dr. Romsa to the front desk person, is extremely friendly and personable. The vibe was kind of like I was hanging out with new friends who just so happen to work in orthodontics. The office itself is very modern and bright, while still being warm and welcoming. Fourth: they were very timely. Despite the fact that there were several other people there when I arrived for my 9:00 appointment, I was taken care of right away, and was never left sitting alone waiting on the next step. Fifth: great website with very clear instructions on how to find them. Street parking in the area can be hit-or-miss, but the Trader Joe's garage is a good, reliable option. Sixth: I went in expecting to replace a broken bottom retainer - one of the old school pink-and-wire ones from (literally) 2005 - because a little piece of the plastic had chipped off the back. After seeing that it still fit and served its purpose, Dr. Romsa offered to just polish the broken edge to make it comfortable, and sent me on my way! With a new retainer case to boot! No making me a new retainer I didn't need. No upselling me on what I am sure is cooler, newer retainer technology. No pointing out any imperfections that have cropped up since I got my braces off almost two decades ago. All around just a fantastic experience. My only regret is that I may not ever have a reason to go back. But if something does come up, I know exactly where I'll go!

The atmosphere is incredibly friendly and welcoming. They'll never rush you out the door or off the phone, even when they're packed. Every time I visit or call to make an appointment I have a fun chat with Sagan, and these folks always remember little details about my life the next time we talk. (They even noticed when I got a new haircut!) I've never had a medical team treat me so much like they really cared about me personally. This is probably why the waiting room always feels like such a pleasant place--even the fellow patients are friendly and chatty. I am currently covered under the Medicaid expansion of the Affordable Care Act. Smiles is one of the only dental practices in Washington, DC, that accepts Medicaid for dental implants. And that's saying a lot, because the reimbursement is low. By the time I called them, I had been rejected by probably two dozen other clinics. I had a badly infected premolar and in need of immediate help. Smiles was able to get me in that same day. The oral surgeon was very clearly knowledgeable and competent. He assessed my situation and put in for the approval to CMS do do an extraction and bone graft in preparation for an implant. I had it, and it went perfectly. I don't understand the negative reviews.
