I am not lying when I say that I called over 15 auto shops maybe more, for an oil change but specifically for a Mercedes, every single one told me either they don't do my kind of car, or to schedule an appt but way far out, or yes but I would have to drop it off and leave it there, or that they would but it's first come first serve n he's got 9 cars in front of him type crap. EVERY single shop I called guys. I needed an oil change asap I called Lars and I had an appt 8am next morning. My car was brought in instantly & I was out of there in an hour! Brought my Land Rover in to have my crank pully replaced because I felt some vibration in my steering wheel and noticed the pully wasn't spinning true. I took my car to Lars and he did an excellent job replacing, explained to me the whole process and even game me back the old parts. My steering wheel had noticeably less vibration. Lars and the Team do a great job. I have need coming here now for 2+ years and I own a TDI VW Jetta with 175,000 miles on it so it has had some issues to address. Each time I bring it in there is a fair assessment of the issues and I will sometimes ask for them to check for any other possible concerns. They are honest and upfront and if they find anything that wasn't expected they communicated this before doing additional work which is always appreciated. To give a fair review of a business you sort of have to separate the actual product from the customer service and weight each individually before you come to a reasonable rating. The work they do on cars at this place it seems is exceptional. The customer service that I experienced however wasn't nearly as good. For those reasons, a 3 out of 5 is the highest rating I can provide based on my experience. I had some engine problems and after calling around, Lars Worldwide Automotive was a name recommended by someone I trusted. So I made an appointment. My car ended up being there 3 weeks. Yes, 3 weeks. The problem was never pinpointed but the owner gave me a pretty good indication of what it was. The good news was that the owner didn't charge me for anything. I appreciated after having waited 3 weeks to not be charged for diagnosing my car's problem. The bad news was that the staff never called to update me on my car the entire time it was there. The owner was great in person, but the staff on the phones left a lot to be desired. I'd call and a woman would tell me how slammed they were, it's a small shop, they'll get to me tomorrow and will call me. Then tomorrow would come and I wouldn't hear anything. So I'd call and it would be a repeat. This continued for a few weeks. At one point after one of my follow-up calls, the woman said she called me but there was no record of it. I asked what number she called and it definitely wasn't my number. After I finally got my car back and knew I'd probably need a new engine, I called them and told them I'd like to bring the car back to have them put in a new engine for me. The woman on the phone said great and was to call me back later in the week to give me an idea of the cost. I heard nothing back. I even doubled checked before I hung up with her that she had the right number and she did. This job, I'd assume, would be thousands of dollars, easy. To not get a call back just did not seem normal. But because of their good reputation for the actual work they do, and because they were very fair in not charging to diagnose my car before, I decided to give them one more chance. So a few months later, I called again about them replacing my engine. It was a repeat of my previous call. A different woman this time said great, they were kind of busy at the time of my call, but by week's end they'd be able to call me back to discuss pricing and timing. That was two weeks ago. No call yet and it's probably safe to say I won't get one. It is difficult to recommend this shop because so much relies on the customer service component of the experience. And, from what I've seen, that is just really rocky here, to put it kindly. I guess there is a case to be made that they do actually do a good job with the cars they see. But getting your car seen and getting any calls about your car may be a harder task here than you're used to. read more

I got tired of being ripped off by taking my car to the BMW dealership and heard Lars was very good. I actually thought they were excellent! Friendly service, gave me an estimate and stood by the estimate. Got the car repaired in a timely manner. I've gone back to Lars twice and each time felt they did an excellent job at a reasonable price. It runs better than it has in the last year. I have a 12 year old Z4 and asked Lars to look it over and help me decide whether to keep it or, if it needed a lot of work, to sell it. He did a thorough job and he even looked up technical service notes. He gave me honest facts and thought the car was in good shape. Small shop that is Huge on customer service. I had major work done on my Bentley. They had to pull the engine out to get to the problem. Every day they called me to give an update. I was so impressed. After the car was picked up they called to check on the car. I returned the car at another time to check on some suspension noise. Lars and his team are top notch. They really know their stuff. Very friendly environment and if you need to wait, there's a comfortable couch, TV and always a friendly cuppa coffee waiting for you. Noticed other reviewers using the word "honest" when describing this business. I beg to differ. I had my wife drop off her 2011 Equinox for an estimate on exhaust and brake repairs. She gets a call back saying it's going to be well over $1,000 just for the exhaust repair. I'm no mechanic, but I'm also not stupid when it comes to auto repairs. The guy claims the OEM parts are whats so expensive and they cant put after market parts on it. This would be believable had this been a Maserati or maybe a Tesla, but this is a 2011 Equinox which they made a billion of. I found after market parts for as little as $45 on ebay as soon as she told me that. Long story short, Lars Automotive wanted $2,030.00 for complete service of exhaust and front/rear brakes. Having it all done at Midas today for $956.00!!! In this day and age of Yelp, I still can't believe there are mechanics who will flat out lie to a woman because he thinks he can get away with it! read more

After getting a nearly $5000 quote from VW Orland Park for a repair, I sought out a second opinion and found Lars. His quote was HALF the price. But the thing I value most from Lars is their honesty. I have so much trust in them, because of how real they are. He will be upfront and tell you what you really need to get done like ASAP, what repairs can wait, and what's not needed. I'm in a position where I don't know a lot about cars, so he could have easily told me I need things that I didn't, which I know VW Orland Park did to me. Lars on the other hand is so trustworthy. Also I found their service to be really quick, and Lars is great at explaining thoroughly what repairs are needed, and customer service is great! I just can't say enough good things about the excellent service every customer gets at Lars. Ethical, fair price, doesn't recommend doing something that isn't necessary. Over the years going there, I now consider Lars and his team my good friends. That is how wonderful they are. Many times, I've gone there for a light bulb or leaking some kind of mysterious oil. They'll plug in a new bulb or throw some oil in whatever pump and send me on my way. No charge. With the last "mysterious oil" leak, turned out it was the whole power steering pump needing replacement. Darn, I was hoping it was a gasket. It had leaked earlier in the year but the extra bottle of fluid held it through the summer. Now that it's getting colder, things are contracting in the engine, it's leaking again and making a whining sound....so voila'! New pump needed. I have every confidence that he would not recommend putting it in if it wasn't needed. The price was very fair...for the parts and the labor...and I know it will be good for a long, long while. I've seen him interact with new customers as well as other established clients. It's always the same. He's genuine and honest. The office is a typical mechanic shop...not a gleaming showroom like at the dealer. Truthfully, I'd much rather trust my car...and my dollars...in their hands than any place else.
