Insurance In-Network Patients BEWARE!…read more Dr. Wing was contracted with our insurance as IN-NETWORK. After running our insurance, Dr. Wing quoted us an in-network co-pay that was higher than expected. This caused us to call our insurance to find out why our share was so high. The insurance then informed us that Dr. Wing was currently under in-network contract with them and the co-pay he quoted us was MORE THAN DOUBLE the contracted co-pay. When we confronted Wing Orthodontics with the fact that they were in breach of contract (not to mention deceitful) by overcharging us by more than double, Wing still insisted that we had to pay more than double his contracted co-pay or find another dentist. So to summarize, we were led to believe that our co-pay was more than double what it actually was. If we hadn't taken the time to investigate with the insurance, we would have overpaid by more than double. It makes one wonder just how many other in-network patients this may have happened to.

Their appt reminder slips are coupons for tacos across the street. They have toys for other children to play with while waiting. The staff is all so kind and welcoming. My kiddo is always excited for her appt. The office theme is very tropical and fun. They announce patients birthdays and celebrate when you get your braces off. They had my email, phone number and my information to provide me the details of my appointment. There was never a phone call, a confirmation, a reminder, an add it to your calendar, nor even a notification sent. I received nothing about paper work or anything needed until less than 24 hours before the appointment was scheduled - They sent me a text message on 7/23 asking me to use a link to fill out the paperwork. I'm not sure how this business handles other patients, but I felt this was all very rushed last minute. They had 10 days - to provide me the links and possibly an email to verify the appointment and fill out the paperwork, rather than less than a 24hr notice via text message. They called 3 minutes after the appointment was scheduled. Asked if I was on my way - I advised that I had not received any confirmation until 24 hours prior and was not interested in doing business. I explined the frustration with timeliness and verification, and they receptionist proceeded to defend the lack of acknowledgement. I advised her that I would not entertain her argument, and advosed that if this is how they did things I would notify others via yelp and google. Save your time, and go to a dentist that respects your time. As time is money and last minute reaction is never a solution to not being proactive.

What I liked most from my first cleaning I just had here: -Upon entering their reception they had a cute chalk welcome board with new patients' names (the thoughtful touch is nice) -The dental hygienist that did my cleaning was a joy to converse with and her cleaning job was gentle and also thorough -Also brought in my retainers and they offered to clean them for me right away -Dentist is super friendly and extremely helpful as I learned something new about my retainers at that appointment (his wife is the orthodontist there) -The photos of the dentist's family spread across the office was also nice to see (I love people who cherish their families) Looking forward to my next visit postpartum.

After my last few visits, I will not be returning, nor will any of my family members. At my last appointment for a cleaning, the hygienist was telling me how dirty my teeth were and told me that I don't brush or floss my teeth. Well, I don't know how I've made it this far in life without brushing my teeth! She made me feel awful about my teeth and made me feel like a disgusting human who apparently doesn't brush or floss. I had a few cavities and made a follow up appt to get them filled. I was given the appt with paperwork stating what teeth would be getting the fillings. It's a good thing I kept that paperwork! I showed up to the appt for the fillings and was told my appt was never made and was never put into the system. Yet I had the paperwork showing otherwise! They took me anyway since it was their mistake, but I was treated as a walk in and made to wait, wait, wait. I had another appointment that I booked 2.5 hours after this one and I had to actually contact the business of my next appointment and notify them that I would be late. And sure enough I was 30 minutes late to my next appointment because of Avalon dental's incompetency. Speaking of incompetence.....approximately 6-8 months after this, I had a dental cleaning at a different dental office and found out that I had a "huge" cavity that Avalon dental missed! It was so large that had it gone any longer I would have needed a crown! The cavity was clearly visible on the x-rays taken at Avalon and they never treated it or informed me of the cavity. One of my family members actually did have a crown placed through Avalon dental and the whole experience was nothing but a nightmare! They told my family member that they ran the paperwork with the insurance company and that the crown was covered. My family member had the procedure and was then hit with a massive bill from the insurance company. Avalon dental never cleared it with the insurance first and said they did! My family member then had to get more medical documentation and basically do Avalon Dental's job for them with submitting required paperwork and documentation to the insurance company to get this covered, which is what Avalon claimed they did, but did NOT! The woman in the office that handles insurance and billing is EXTREMELY RUDE! Called multiple times requesting that we contact the insurance company to pay them. Is that not her job? I contacted the insurance company and per the insurance company, they had 90 days in which to provide Avalon dental with the payment and it would be payed in 90 days. I called and let the insurance/billing lady at Avalon dental know this and she continued to call us MULTIPLE times requesting a check from the insurance company! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Again, this is her job to contact the insurance company....why were we having to do her job for her? Not to mention she continued talking over us on the phone, kept interrupting us multiple times, and would not let us speak! She was calling us up like a bill collector when it was out of our hands. We told you, the insurance will pay you in 90 days! QUIT calling! We QUIT coming to Avalon dental after these incidents. Will not be coming back. EDIT: The business thinks I have the wrong dental business because of my name and location being California. I have the correct business and I was a patient of yours more than once. I travel to the valley here MULTIPLE times per year and have well over 200 reviews for Arizona businesses, including yours. If you took a look at my reviews, check-ins, and photos, you'd know that. I was just in Phoenix this morning. As for my name, this is a variation of my name. Just because it doesn't exactly match my medical record, doesn't mean I was not a patient of this office. I do not wist to talk to you or anyone from this business. I shared my experience with your business on a review site. Alexis did a wonderful job setting my fears to rest making me feel less anxious about my cleaning. Dr. Taryn spent extra time to make sure I was comfortable and everything was going well. Later in the day when my visiting sister's temporary crown fell out we called the office asking for advice on what to do. Dr. Taryn said she'd help us out and reset my sister's crown for us that afternoon! I can't say enough about how caring and thoughtful the whole office is at Avalon.
