Absolutely horrendous service. The OWNER of this salon has stood me up not once, not twice, but four times. Most of the time not even giving me any kind of heads up or notice that she will not be there. My final appointment I tried to make with her was to get roots fixed that she has been supposed to fix for MONTHS now so that I could take Christmas pictures with my son who is almost grown- I don't even know if we will be able to take pictures next Christmas. This meant nothing to her. She pulled yet another no-call, no-show on me days before Christmas (was too late to get in anywhere else) and hasn't called back since. She's lucky I didn't sue in the first place- my first appointment she started with her irresponsible, lackadaisical behavior and had me keep my appointment with a barber (appt was with her originally) who in no way knew how to dye hair. This man thinned out half of my head, burnt a bunch of my hair off. All because she put us both in a bad position. He should've never even attempted what he did with my hair, shame on them both for not knowing better. Did I mention the color of my hair was 6 different shades of orange/off-blonde, with patches of black throughout (my natural color is close to black/very dark brown)?? Not cute or finished or a professional color job, whatsoever. He STILL charged me. This owner hasn't even contacted me to apologize after this last "cancellation." I don't consider it that, this is the 3rd time at least she has stood me up completely with zero notice, zero compassion for me and my day. I worked the night shift and live across town, I had an appointment with her at 9am after working til 3:00am. I also had to work that night, on pretty much no sleep that was lost FOR NO REASON. Went across town, FOR NO REASON. Paid for parking, FOR NO REASON. She had zero concern for any of that, as I was left there til nearly 10am with the door locked and no one there. I not only confirmed the appointment, I confirmed it TWICE. She couldn't even answer the damn phone to let me know she would not be there, much less reach out to me. Zero respect for me, or my time as a customer. Idk what is wrong with this owner, but this is the most unprofessional experience I've had BY FAR with ANY SALON IN MY ENTIRE LIFE AND ANY BUSINESS IN THE CITY! Idk what ur on.....but you need to get it together. There is definitely more going on than some deaths in the family. I doubt someone died literally every time I made an appointment, and you can't be professional and respectful enough to show up after cancelling on me MULTIPLE times and after telling me that you would do my roots for free in the fall after YOUR BARBER messed me up? She only gave me one free service to make up for him burning my damn hair off and screwing it up for months. I've been trying to grow out my hair- his actions caused me to lose at least a year of growth. I hadn't scheduled with a professional salon in years to do my color when I made that initial appointment....and was left with what I got- a burnt head, feeling like I was going to be assaulted at times because this man was so persistent with the flirting and gross speech even though I was far from interested, I didn't feel safe my entire appointment and was never told by this man that he had no freaking idea what he was doing until the end of my appointment when it was too late. I'm also in recovery and this dude was offering me substances he would not quit. Thankfully I have a strong resolve, someone else wouldn't be so lucky. She is incapable of keeping her word, do not even try to make an appointment with this selfish woman. If I could give you all negative stars, I would. So much wrong with the entire picture. Get your shit together. ALL THE WAY. Or just close your doors. But don't treat good people like this- I was nothing but kind and understanding to all of you, but at this point this review is well-deserved. I still haven't gotten a single apology or explanation for last time, I am a paying customer that they screwed over in the past and whom she owes a service to. Negative stars for this "salon." More like a trap house or part-time business she does for fun or shows up for the rich old ladies. But she sure doesn't show up for me, and didn't KNOWING it was for Christmas pictures with my son and KNOWING that she had already stood me up MULTIPLE TIMES and that I've been screwed over so bad as a customer that I very well could have sued them. I should've known from the first appointment just how unprofessional this place is, in every way. I never did receive the receipt by email as indicated, so I will take his word for that, as my bank statement also shows a total of $243. There's a bar with drinks (alcoholic and nonalcoholic). The food menu is small--currently Cuban sandwiches, and black beans and rice and brownies. In all honesty, that's all I really need. There's a pool table. So crazy--but cool. I love the open concept, but miss a counter near the hairstylists' areas for my drink and purse. I had to set my stuff on the stylist's cart to my side. I like my purse right in my sight line. Be aware that the credit card terminal with the automatic tip option includes tax when calculating the stylist's tip, inflating the tix amount. You may want to manually calculate the tip for accuracy. The cut was good. I did ask for something edgy, but oh well. The cut was fine. read more

This is the cutest little hair salon on an unassuming street, which it shares with many closed businesses, an actual music store and a place where you can go in and play board games! This adorable place has a sit down cafe, a pool table and people getting their hair cut. Looks upscale, but the people there are super friendly and relaxed. Marcella cut my hair and she was awesome! I will certainly be coming back! She has gentle hands, never pulled my hair, even though it's quite long and easily tangles. She was super knowledgeable and super friendly. She did everything I asked for and never decided that she knew better than me, when I asked for something. My husband also got his hair cut. His hair is long and very curly, which is a challenge for most salons to do correctly. These guys handled it perfectly! We won't be going anywhere else to get our hair done! read more

On my first visit, Dyan gave me plenty of good feedback about my hair and answered a bunch of questions I had, leaving me feeling really good about my cut when I left. And don't think you only have to go only when your hair's running long. You can go just for coffee (I had a killer espresso) and for their Cuban food. I've been coming to Laru Ni Hati for the last eight years while a student at UNM and after I graduated. Through every haircut or trim, I have always left this place more than satisfied with the end result. They listen to every detail and I also trust their handwork and creativity. I've always passed by this salon, but ASSumed it was too expensive by the ambiance,being in Nob Hill, yada yada yada, my list of NO's were endless. Let me just say that I was so wrong (which is rare), & I am so glad that I was. After reading the reviews (both good and bad on YELP) I made a last minute appointment today (literally, like 1 hour before I went to get my hair cut), and met with Brandon who gave me an AMAZING cut. I asked for someone who specializes in pixie cuts. I was advised that Toney and Brandon are "the man". I was not disappointed. My haircut, and my complimentary beverage came out to a whopping 37.00. Like really?? I was expecting to pay around $60 (without the tip). While You wait: They have a wine bar, beer, pool table, and outdoor seating. While You wait: Complimentary beverage, or $1.00 off an alcoholic drink, or free wine tasting. They take their last cut @ 9PM. Seriously!! I will so book a late appointment so I have an excuse to hit the lounges and bars with my "Freshly stepped out of a Salon" look. #FABULOUS Don't tell my stylist, but I think I have found a new stylist *Insert Winky Face*. The establishment is spacious enough to pull off this concept, offering plenty of seating towards the front while the salon operates in the back. The selection of refreshments is surprisingly diverse, ranging from local beers on tap to bottles of champagne (plus, non-alcoholic beverages are complimentary!) For my first visit here, I was able to book an appointment with Kristian for a cut and color. She guided me in the right direction for which color would be best, and was patient when I was unsure about the style of cut I wanted. She is a skilled barber and made adjustments until I was satisfied and left feeling as confident as ever. When she told me about the addition of facials and skin care to the Laru menu, I booked another appointment with her for only a few days after. I excitedly returned for my facial and WOW is my skin glowing! I was cleansed, steamed, exfoliated, masked, and massaged in a quiet downstairs space. It felt like she had three hands going at once, all equally gentle on my skin. Kristian is very informed about each of the products, and offered recommendations specific to my skin's needs based on a face map she did. Ok, where to begin? I had an appointment for a haircut on Wednesday morning at 10:00am, because of a doctors visit before I was running about 15 min late. I received multiple calls from the receptionist that if I'm not there by 10:15am they would have to cancel my appointment and that I would have to pay $25 for a no show. Fair enough! If it wouldn't have been that the time before in January I was told the moment I walked into the hair salon that my hairdresser was running about an half an hour late!!!!!!!! One of the most unprofessional experiences i have had. I am the type of person who will pay the heavy price tag , understandably expecting perfection. I am looking for a new hair dresser so that is what brought me there. I called and asked for the best particularly in cutting long hair , i got an appointment dyan . So i booked a hair cut first to asses her. She was polite and while she did not screw up my hair , the hair cut was just ok . I went ahead and booked my color . The night before my appointment I get a text from an unknown number with a text with the manner as if i knew this person , the text just stated you coming to your color ? I asked who is this? And they replied with the name of the salon laru ni hati , spelled wrong mind you . Not wanting to give my information I asked them to confirm the time of my appointment. Whoever I was talking to . They did confirm so I did confirm my appointment. The next day I get an automated text message that tells me my appointment was canceled due to a health reasons. Which being I was contacted the night before and asked to confirm I'm not buying the story The text stated that I would be contacted to reschedule. I was never contacted. I'd go to Laru for quite some time and Chelsie always took good care of me and my hair id get so many compliments. Sorry to call you out like this Dyan, but what you did to my hair is so unacceptable! You ruined my hair. I thought when I went back to get it fixed you would at least do a decent job and I thought that by the third time seeing you to get it fixed it would get better but left me with an itchy scalp, FRIED hair and an orange-ish yellow color when I paid over $200 for a root touch up! My hair means a lot to me and because You fried and mis-colored my hair you have ruined more than one event I had planned. I have to wake up everyday and do what I can to fix and deal with my now, fried, mis-colored hair.. I gave the salon a call more than once and haven't received a call back.. beyond disappointed! My suggestion to you Dyan, TAKE YOUR TIME! I would hate for this to happen to anyone else read more

My go-to Salon for as long as I'll live in Albuquerque, seriously. I went in with split, dry and unstyled hair and HOPED that Gregory could finally give me a look that I liked. After we sat down and chatted about what I had in mind (bold bangs, and fun layers!) he got to work... And I left on a high. Gregory was no-nonsense, quick, and amazingly intuitive with the bangs and length that would suit my face, and three days later I'm still on a happy cloud from how the new hair makes me feel. Extremely poor customer service. Would never return. Had an appointment and called to explain I would be late. Showed up less than ten minutes after my scheduled appointment and was denied service. I asked if I could be seen at all today and was told no. Receptionist lied to me that he was a supervisor when I asked to speak with one. Went online to see available appointments not even an hour after I had arrived. Very unsatisfied with they're handling of customers. EDIT: So the guy who I'm assuming is the owner named Greg calls me within the hour bribing me a $10 haircut to take down my yelp review because his employee lied to my face; if I could rank this place lower than one star I would. Went to a place called Sergio's instead and had a wonderful experience. My hairstylist Jacob was very personable, and he spent an extra 50 minutes after regular closing time to make sure my haircut was perfect. Needless to say I'll be getting my haircut at Sergio's over this place every time. Also, just look at other reviews. It's either 4 star or one star. I have been coming here on and off since 2003. The flexible days/hours was the original reason I tried Laru, and over the years this is still a big reason I come here. (Back in the day with my crazy work schedule I needed the convenience of the "late nite trim" and now I'm super glad I can go on Sundays or Mondays.). I've had different stylists and have liked them all. Most recently, Corina cut my hair and gave me a new style that I love. She's great. I also very much appreciate their Covid-safe practices and in particular knowing that my stylist is vaccinated is important to me. I want to feel comfortable and safe when I spend time getting my hair done. Overall, I have always loved the concept of the salon being more than just a salon (pre-Covid)- it's a great place to hang out, grab a drink, and oh yeah- change up your look a bit. Glad to see Laru Ni Hati has been around for awhile and I hope it continues to be a Nob Hill fav. read more

I rarely feel compelled to write reviews like this, but in this case I have to make an exception. My appointment was cancelled because the stylist didn't even know she was scheduled to work today. This was to be my first appointment in this salon after doing homework in looking for one that seemed to be a good fit for me. Sadly, it was also my last as I am absolutely disinclined to give this salon another chance. There are situations that can't be helped like illness or family emergencies, but not knowing one is scheduled is not going to cut it with a new client. I was wanting to cut my hair short, but it's Sunday so not many other top notch places open. I hope I don't lose my nerve before I can get in somewhere else. One star for the receptionist I spoke with who seemed genuinely apologetic. She had called, but I hadn't checked my messages yet so that was my fault. read more

I will admit, I am a bit scared of going to hair salons after a horrible experience years ago and I let my hair get stringy and just not look good. I took a chance after pouring through locations and reviews to find someplace that might be able to work with curly hair, and booked an appointment with Dyan. I didn't even really know what I wanted entirely, since it's been so long since I've been to a hair salon. I am so happy I didn't back out and took the chance. Dyan trimmed my hair and made it look healthy and vibrant again. She did exactly what I had hoped and couldn't explain to her. She is an artist. I also got some color done for a very different look and it is beautiful. I had a sort of idea from pictures, but it came out so much better than I anticipated. The cute girls are mime like rather than conversational and they make you feel like you're bothering them for being there. There is no ability for them to cater to your TV desires, say ESPN, but if old 1950's B&W movies are your thing, you're in luck. What a concept! This place is like transported from another world. Greg is a hair Guru and he picks up stylists from really good schools or personally trains stylists like Mr. Miyagi trains Karate Kids. I can't afford Greg personally but his young Jedi are cheaper and they are indeed artists. (no buzzers here!) You come in and get offered a free fruit smoothy or a beer and shoot pool until they're ready for you. They have this philosophy where they look at your whole facial structure and construct a line that fits sexier than sock on a rooster! (As opposed to a one cut fits all approach.)... You sorta need a reservation here, a walk in might get lucky. Also great card selection! (like birthday cards or miss you cards, or thinking of you while waiting for a haircut cards.) read more

Customer service was abysmal. I felt like an inconvenience, and the assistant did most of the work! I felt cheated. $150 to look exactly the same, have an assistant tend to me, and be talked down to.
