I've been here a couple of times. I saw Natashia Conteras for blonding services. I really loved her highlighting technique. Usually, I like my hair right away in the salon after items done but the I don't like it at home until two weeks have passed, but that was not the case with when Natashia did my hair. Not only did i immediately like it after she was done while I was still in the salon, but I still liked it after I washed it and played with it myself a couple days later. It didn't take couple of weeks to fall back in love with it. I immediately loved it! I also really like Natashia. I felt like she really listened to me and answered all my questions. She also explained her technique to me as she was doing it and how it would affect the end result. I loved that she gave me that level of understanding. She also explained blew dry my hair beautifully. I recently had a baby and couldn't go in for my full service because of my breastfeeding schedule, and she explained how we could modify my service for a shorter session that would get me to the next time we meet for a longer session. I can't tell you how much i appreciated that level of understanding and flexibility. I would definitely recommend Natashia to others, especially if they're looking for blonding services. The space itself was very clean and had a boho southwest vibe too. It's dry cute and Natashia told me that the owner made the drift wood light fixture over the hair-washing sinks herself! How cool is that! I also like that this salon has a transparent payment structure and you can choose a stylist that aligns with your budget. I also like that this information is readily available on their website and that it also tells you what specialty each stylist has. That information was very helpful. read more

I'm new in town and chose Alt Salon b/c of the great reviews and they were spot on. Meghan gave me a terrific haircut, wash and blowout. It was such a pleasant, calm and peaceful experience - and the hair washing stations are suuuuper comfy. I didn't give Meghan much direction, just asked her to freshen up my hair and give it some nice shape. She more than delivered. I had wanted to cut my hair for a few weeks and had a hard time getting into any businesses. Some wanted referrals and some didn't have openings for 3-4 weeks out. I looked at yelp and found this business and they happened to have an opening on the day of my call. I made an appointment with Megan. She was nice and walked me through her process. She made her recommendations and looked at my preferences and then started the cut. Haircut came out really nice. I would recommend this location for the following reasons: They are the only place who had same day appointments, which was very helpful for me. They have a no tip policy which is convenient. I think they calculate the tip in the cost of the haircut. My woman's haircut was $75 plus tax which came to about $80. Megan was very good and did a great job with my hair. The owner is a lovely person, thoroughly versed on the latest techniques and trends. She transformed my sad little head of hair. I was naturally salt/pepper. She added two more shades of brown, making more dark shades than gray. Looks totally natural! Came to ABQ and desperately needed a gel manicure. Researched Yelp and reviews were positive and decided to make an appointment with Alysha at Alt Salon. Left completely and totally satisfied with the service, salon and nails. Therefore, I made a subsequent appointment for pedicure and next manicure. The quality of Alysha's work is amazing. I'm two weeks into my manicure and it still looks as good as the first day. My past experience has been that after two weeks....time for next manicure. I have not been to a salon that uses those structures so it took a minute to figure out what was going on. The haircut and lowlights I got look fantastic and the price was reasonable for the service. Well, what a disappointment.... I had a double appointment that I was looking forward to, two standard pedicures back to back. I was taking my 89 year old friend for the first pedicure of her entire life. It was going to be her birthday gift from me. She was game for it and I was excited about our beauty day. However, I called her to remind her and she had forgotten and had other things planned - I guess that it was "89 year old brain". I was disappointed but I didn't let her know it. She just forgot it. So I called alt salon and talked to Josie. She was very nice but told me that I still had to play 50% of both treatments. I thought that was high. I told her that I would reschedule it for us the next week, but there was no consideration of applying that fee to the next treatment. When I asked, Josie told me that they didn't do that. There are lots of salons to choose from, I know they know that, but there was no reparation for going to them for services. She kept asking me if a reminder call to me would help next time, but I kept reminding her that I didn't forget! My 89 year old lady friend did! She said that she would talk to Alicia, the pedicure stylist, and text me back. After about 10-15 minutes, I get a text stating that our appointments were cancelled and that they will take 50% from my card (yes, they get your card number first). Then, the text continued that Alicia was not taking any new clients and that she is phasing out nails- now she's only doing hair, permanent makeup and lashes, basically, the sentiment was "yeah we got your money and don't come back". I was disappointed on many levels when it comes to good business practices. I actually had no problem with the cancellation fee- this day and time, I expected that. It's new America. Where I had issues was that it never occurred to them that they had a golden opportunity to gain a lifelong client. Maybe two! They failed to recognize that. If they had handed the situation differently, I could have referred all of my friends to them as "the Best!" If they only thought of this, they could have just waived the fee because of my forgetful 89 year old friend's fault but they were not in the least sympathetic- I even felt a little bit scolded. Then the text just pulled the rug from under my feet because even after charging my card 50%, I was going to RESCHEDULE! She chose to text me afterward, also. I would have chosen to call, especially since they phased out nails. I felt abandoned. When you take business classes in college, not esthetic school, you learn about gathering clientele and growing your business. This is not the way to do it. Now, I won't ever go and I'll tell my friends not to go either. I have nothing good to say- they didn't even try to grab a new client with any kind of bait. I have all kinds of friends in the healthcare business and they ask me but I can't recommend this one. This post could have been 5 stars, but oh well. read more

This is one of the best hair salons i have ever been to. I am not from this area & and am pretty picky about my hair. My hair was also very damaged from years of bleach & permanent dye and i hated the color I had. Jay was amazing and extremely nice, he got me an appointment very last minute. Brenda was incredible, she knew exactly what i wanted & the results were even better than i expected! She was very gentle, took her time & was very sweet! First time I went in, Salina did a great job until the end when she wanted to run texturizing shears all around my face to "finish" the cut. I told her I thought it was perfect and I didn't want to change anything. She insisted saying it will grow in better this way and I said I didn't care how it grows back I care about how I feel leaving today. She told me to trust her and she did it anyway. I left upset and when I got home I had antennas sticking out and all these fly aways that I had to purchase product to in order to tame. Next time I went in I asked for a blow out and had Jackie and there's a difference between blow drying someone's hair and blowing "out" someone's hair. She blew dried my hair and it took forever and looked terrible, there was no volume no curl no shape, just straight frizzy lifeless hair. I talked to the manager and requested not to pay for the service since I very clearly didn't get what I asked for (a blowout) manager authorized not paying for the service and all was well. Called back today almost a year later to give them another shot and some dude said "I was looking at the notes and you refused to pay for a service". Refusing to pay for a service and talking to a manager to REQUEST not having to pay for a service that I was unhappy with is a huge difference. So anyway, these people aren't pros, they're crybabies and drama enthusiasts and not worth anything more than this 1 star. Thanks! read more

He is 11 and has his hair long and we were worried that it would have to be cut short to fix my mistake. Desiree Ortega took care of him and fixed it up keeping the length. They were in the transition to their new location, so they were in a temporary location when I went. But they were very nice and even that location was very clean and nice. They gave me a free scalp treatment since it was my first time. Jannè was so nice and knew exactly what I wanted!!
