Tried Las Americas Bakery for the first time today for lunch and it was a nice surprise! Gainesville doesn't have many Latin bakery and this one did not miss the mark. I use to live in Miami and this is the best Latin bakery I've had since moving to Gainesville. I tried the recommendation from the server which was the Medianoche which is pull pork, ham, cheese, and tomatoes on a sweet bread and it was pressed. I opted for no tomatoes. The flavors was a party in my mouth with the salty from the pork and ham and the sweet bread! It was serve with fries which were good. The server Sarai was very pleasant and we spoke for a while as I was the only one in at the time. They also have pasteries, desserts, empanadas. Etc. The ambiance is chill. I got the "little brain," pastry to go! It a pastry that looks like a brain with cinnamon and apple flavor! I would definitely recommend that you give them a try!

I didn't know this place existed until this morning, but I am glad I came across it. I give the experience a 5/5 overall, but I went there specifically for the Cuban sandwich, as I do Cubano reviews on YouTube (goofy, I know, but I love these things). I thought the sandwich was good, very solid. The pork on the sandwich was OUTSTANDING. Perfect texture and flavor. The only knock, and it wasn't even that big of a deal, was the press on the sandwich. I like mine super crispy, and this wasn't. But, to be fair, I did have to drive about 20 minutes before I tasted, so that could have contributed. I would definitely recommend this for someone in the GNV looking for a Cubano. Service was friendly and they had some good music going from the TV. Even had a patron doing a little dancing. Cool atmosphere for a random Monday visit. Not sure the link will work on Yelp, but here is a video of my review, if interested (spoiler alert- I scored it an 8.1, which is a very solid score on my own personal, made up Cubano scale): https://youtu.be/jKGsXHaTbpM

I'm a big fan of their chicken empanadas. The other empanadas could use a little more "umph". Looking forward to trying their sandwiches.

Cute Little Bakery on the other side of the town. Definitely some of the best arepas and empanadas I've had in Gainesville. Worth the drive.

I can honestly say I've had really bad luck in this place. Not only does the service take forever,…read morebut also it is just crappy food. I just think they don't try hard enough, the people working there perhaps are not properly trained, paid or it just comes all the way from the top. I went there to give them a second chance since I had previously tried them about a year ago and I thought the food was not good back then, but maybe since they have been open long enough, maybe it was that one thing I had. Well I was wrong, I ordered just some appetizers, not even a full meal or anything and they took almost an hour to bring it out!! I didn't want to complaint so I just took my food to go and left, but when I got home the mandocas I ordered were terrible, tasted like they just reheated them and didn't even have cheese or nata which is what they should come with, or how they are served in any Venezuelan place you go to. On top of that, I had asked for cilantro sauce for the tequeños, they said it was in the bag, and when I got home they just put garlic sauce in there!! I didn't even eat, what a waste of money and energy to go there. Terrible experience, I don't recommend the headache to anyone, it's just not worthy. Unfortunately.

They do also have an ice cream business so its pretty nice if you want to eat an arepa and then stay for dessert.

She took the time to walk me through the whole menu like we'd known each other forever; you can tell she genuinely cares about her food and her customers. Now the food... unreal. The beef empanada was packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. The buffalo chicken empanada had just the right kick without being overpowering. And the dessert empanadas... I don't even have words. Straight up addictive. And then she went above and beyond; threw in a free chicken empanada for my kids, which was awesome. But here's the real review... my 9-year-old son is one of the pickiest eaters on the planet, and now I won't be able to keep him away from this place Great food, great vibes, and even better people. This is the kind of spot you root for. If you see this food truck -- STOP. You won't regret it.

I believe their selection will change from day to day since they hand write their options. The last time I was there they had about 5 different versions. These are fantastic empanadas and ones I will get each and every time I visit Plant Street. My only complaint (and its not even a real compliant) is I wish they had some sides to go with the empanadas, like maybe plantains or a sweet empanada, and then a sauce to dip them in. But besides that I really cannot complain, these are great and very good. The last time my wife and I visit we decided to try 2 and share them. We chose the chicken and cheese as well as the Cuban. Both were really good and super tasty, and both we agreed we would order again. They were crispy for sitting in a warming oven, it was surprising how crispy they were. The chicken and cheese was chopped chicken mixed with some melty cheese. The Cuban was fantastic, and was chopped pork with cheese, a hint of mustard and even had pieces of pickles inside. Their empanadas are also baked, not fried, which I personally prefer. However, it was still crunchy and crispy. My only issue with ordering different ones is they were not labled. She put both in one bag so we had no idea which was which. Not the best for allergy issues or preferences, but we didn't really care, since we were trying both. Overall these are fantastic empanadas. This is a spot I would continue to visit every time I am at Plant Street. I look forward to trying all their different flavors. I highly recommend trying these empanadas next time you are at Plant Street. ACES!

Let me first say, they are absolutely delicious. The only reason I gave them a 4 is because they only sell empanadas and only have a few options. I have been to other empanada places and their options are massive. I would love to see more available here, maybe it's on a rotation, I'm not sure. They also did not have any dips for them. For the two we ordered I think a garlic style dip would have gone well. We decided to try the chicken and cheese as well as the Cuban. Again, they were fantastic! The chicken and cheese was chopped chicken and very good. I did not really taste cheese so it must have been mixed in. The Cuban was fantastic, it had pieces of pickles inside as well. This one would have been great with a mustard type dip to complete the Cuban sandwich flavor. But we would order both again and again. Their empanadas are also baked, not fried. I do prefer a fried but these were good. My only other issue was they were not labeled, she put both in one bag so we did not know which was which. The flavors were similar at first so it was hard to tell. It really was not until we tasted the pickle that we knew which was which. Overall these are fantastic tasting empanadas, and this from someone who prefers them fried. The person working was not the most friendly, and reading other's reviews, they must have had sauces and we were just not offered. We will however, continue to visit ever time we head to Plant Street. It is such a simple dish, easy to carry around Plant Street and just really good. I would recommend checking it out especially when you are at Plant Street.
