When I first came I didn't like it, but when I found what I liked it immediately became my favorite restaurant in town!! There is something for everyone! What a gem! The atmosphere is authentic, the people are great, and restaurant is clean! Limited on the options for tacos. Either Carne asada, or chicken. But they're delicious. One of my favorite places, food, and people. Excellent Mexican and El Salvadoran menu is full of great, flavorful surprises. You can't go wrong with anything. I've ordered the fajitas but one of my personal favorites is Mercede's Favorite because of the papusas. They are soo good I have to order one, even if I get something else just because of their great taste. Their margaritas are also another pleasant surprise. Mercedes(love her), the owner makes them perfect! Not the sugary syrupy salty things you get at most places. Soon they will have to add on or relocate, this place is busting at the seams. Yelp was invented for places like this. I would have never found this place without it. And wow- I am so glad I did. I got the Mercedes favorite - just as other yelp users had recommended. I really don't know what was on the plate other than the tamale - that was wrapped in a banana leaf? - All I can say is don't question - it just get it! I was visiting Fort Smith for the day and chose Las Americas based on the Yelp reviews. It was SOOOO delicious. I ordered Pechugas de Pollo, which was a grilled chicken with a lime sauce on it served with tortillas. The flavors were brilliant, and unlike ones I have had at other Mexican restaurants. It may be the Salvadoran influence. The staff was also very friendly, and eager to help me make a choice in ordering. The inside of the restaurant is clean, and cozy, and traditional Latin American music is playing lightly in the background. Tables are spaced very close together, so you can hear other conversations if you are paying attention. I will definitely be coming here again on my next visit to Fort Smith. read more

This review is for the Salvadorean cuisine served at Las Americas. Since there are numerous average Mexican restaurants in Fort Smith, I would highly advise you to order the authentic Salvadorean items from the menu. We opted to try the Yucca and Chicharonnes appetizer, as well as Mercedes Favorite, which included two pupusas, two pastelitos, and a Salvadorean tamale. We were all very impressed with all of our appetizers. Delicious, pork-filled pupusas and pastelitos that were crispy on the outside and loaded with vegetables and meat. The prices were super reasonable as well ($1.50 per pupusa and $1.75 for a tamale). For entrees, I went with the breaded steak which came with fried plantains, refried beans and rice. It was delicious. The steak was very thin and tender, and the breading was really crisp, not soggy at all. The fried plantains were awesome-- really flavorful and added to the different tastes of the meal. Be sure to get the homemade tortillas instead of the corn or flour tortilla (it's basically an unfilled pupusa-- so delicious). The quesadilla was really good as well. Lots of cheese inside, a few pieces of chicken, but the exterior was crisp enough so that it didn't get repetitive. Others in our party went for the burritos, Tex Mex tacos, and enchiladas and were somewhat disappointed, so I would recommend staying away from the standard Mexican fare and opting for their specialties! read more

I stopped into Las Americas wondering about wondering about the Salvadorean items on the menu. A friend (who I always tease about being Mexican) loves her homeland's cuisine and pupusas. I sent her a photo and she'd not much to say except about the size of the tamale and she expected a whole chicken leg to be inside. The food was good. I got an order or guacamole (being told that that is Mexican and not Salvadorian. Salvadorians eat the avacado plain). My meal of a tamale, a few pupusas and some small fried bread with beef and potato inside were all great. I can't quite place all of it but it feels like central American home to me. The staff was great and the service made me feel like family. When I return to Fort Smith I'll definitely eat here again. read more

Really liked this place....stopped here for lunch and was pretty impressed. I had the Mr. Chuck's Special and the pupuss, which I had never had...interesting. Kind of like a thick tortilla stuffed with cheese... The Mr. Chuck's Special was pretty good. The seafood enchilada tasted like it had mostly canned seafood in it, but it was only like $7. The beans that came with it were super tasty. This place seems to offer more than the run of the mill Mexican food, so I definitely was impressed with that. The other three in my party all seemed to enjoy their food as well. It took quite a while to get our food, but it was quite busy because it was lunch hour. I would definitely come back again though. It is one of my favorite places to eat in Fort Smith! I'm from Texas. Mexican, El Salvadoran food, and Tex Mex are comfort food. We were visiting my husband's family up here and stopped in. Hands down the best chimichanga I've ever had. The pupusas were fresh and delicious. The guacamole was fresh, flavorful and tastes as good as when I make it myself at home. They have a vast array of foods on their menu, ranging from Mexican to Spanish to Nicaraguan, but they specialize in Salvadoran food.
