I asked what the best restaurant in Tucumcari is and a coworker recommended this place. I had the smothered burrito with green and red sauce, filled with the red chili pork. As you you'll see by the pictures, this wasn't shredded. It was large chunks of pork, that were incredibly tender. To be honest, I don't really remember what it looked like in there because I wasn't really focused on the ambience, the food was great and the service was great. This is a fantastic place to eat. We had breakfast twice and dinner once. All meals were authentic Mexican not Tex mex. Dinner The bottle caps, clicked jalapeños fried with fries! Best I have ever had and fresh. Would also highly recommend the Asada tacos. Meat was delicious and not fatty. The service was the best and fast. We got our dinner so fast I couldn't believe. Friend wait sat add Breakfast. We had the tooth in pork chops with eggs. Another must have, it was so good. We came back the next day. Passing through on our way to California. The town and Route 66 are pretty desolate. Even more so on a SuperBowl Sunday. We were directed to Las Chaparritas as one of the few places open. Happy we stumbled in. Extensive menu, large space, clean bathrooms; and most important nice people working and good food. We had the birria quesadillas and tres leches cake. Everything was great. They've been open since 2020, and we wish them big success. read more

First timers but now anytime we come thru Tucumcari, we will be stopping here. Excellent food and the service matched the food. I had the Quesabirria and wife had the Enchilada plate with a cheese and chicken enchiladas. She ordered the green or verde sauce. Both dishes were excellent. We are from Texas and typically the green sauce is made with tomatillo sauce in Tex-Mex. Used a different pepper here. Very good. If your driving thur Tucumcari, make a stop here read more

The food was SO good! Grandma makes the chili rellenos and they are by far the best I've ever tasted! The service was quick and very customer friendly- what I wanted wasn't on the menu but they made it happen in a friendly cheerful fashion. Great menu choices served quickly by a friendly and attentive server. My husband enjoyed his quesobirria with tasty charro beans. I appreciated the option of a senior-sized lunch special because traveling on a full stomach is uncomfortable, and it's nice to avoid wasting perfectly delicious food. I had two chicken tacos with rice and frijoles. Next time I will ask for charro beans instead because I think they are a bit more healthy. The chips and salsa were complimentary and both rated a ten. Food was alright, I got the fajita's cost $60 for two fajita meals. Only get about 1/10th of an avocado, 1 teaspoon of sour cream. The service is horrible, we didn't get checked on not once and never got the chance to wave waitress down. All I wanted was more sides for my fajitas and another beer. Don't go here during 5-7 o'clock service is bad. Worst service I have had at a restaurant. Food was good but portions were too small and service was non-existent. read more

Waiting a minute to cool was definitely in the cards. No problem, I had my beer, salsa and chips to occupy me while the steam settled. After a bit, I dug in. First fork was the rice. Oh, was that rice ever good! The only problem was that there wasn't enough. I suggest that you order a side of that glorious grain. Fantastic! The refried beans, well, were ok, but just ok. The Hatch greenies, as you'd expect, were outstanding and very flavorful. I ordered them Christmas style, with green and red sauce. Both of those condiments were tasty, but of the two, the green sauce stood out. Boy did it ever. I'll be dreaming of that sauce later tonight. Hopefully my girlfriend doesn't pop into the picture.....OR, maybe she should! LoL, now that would be a dream! Don't worry about parking, as there is more than ample. You can park in the front, the back, either side, and if you're driving a big rig, pulling a trailer, or driving a tank, they've got you covered. Across the street is special parking for those vehicles. More parking outside than tables inside.
