    Red chili pork chunks
    Ryan P.

I asked what the best restaurant in Tucumcari is and a coworker recommended this place. I had the smothered burrito with green and red sauce, filled with the red chili pork. As you you'll see by the pictures, this wasn't shredded. It was large chunks of pork, that were incredibly tender. To be honest, I don't really remember what it looked like in there because I wasn't really focused on the ambience, the food was great and the service was great. If I was staying another day, I would eat here again.

Excellent family café with a classic American breakfast. The oatmeal and pork chop were amazing! Great food, friendly people, and a cozy atmosphere. Let's support small family businesses in America!

What sets it apart is the downtown location and family style flavors missing from the chain mexican food restraunts. Always a good sign when the clientele is hispanic!

Passing through on our way to California. The town and Route 66 are pretty desolate. Even more so on a SuperBowl Sunday. We were directed to Las Chaparritas as one of the few places open. Happy we stumbled in. Extensive menu, large space, clean bathrooms; and most important nice people working and good food. We had the birria quesadillas and tres leches cake. Everything was great. They've been open since 2020, and we wish them big success.

Huevos rancheros with green chile and papitas

Friendly and fast! The huevos rancheros are delicious and the green chile authentic with the right amount of spicy. Even the biscuits and gravy are yummy here. My new favorite Mexican spot when in this area!

    Smothered Burrito

Found this gem in Tucumcari NM. Previous great reviews. Back of the bldg has 2 large beautiful murals with 2 across the street in front of bldg. Chips and salsa were good. Ordered from a huge lunch menu. Polo Loco w charro beans and Smothered Burritos. The portions are huge! Both orders were awesome. Get the charros for sure! Don't miss this on your way through New Mexico!!

Casual restaurant. Good food and our server Maria was friendly. Fast service. If you're headed down the 40, you should check it out.

I visited on a Monday evening, around 5pm. That's usually the time us old folks eat. I had no issue getting a table. Promptly seated, I ordered a beer and my dinner. The menu is a good mix, something for everyone. I ordered the Chili Rellenos. Of course I ordered that. Hey, when in Rome..... My meal was served quick and hot. Waiting a minute to cool was definitely in the cards. No problem, I had my beer, salsa and chips to occupy me while the steam settled. After a bit, I dug in. First fork was the rice. Oh, was that rice ever good! The only problem was that there wasn't enough. I suggest that you order a side of that glorious grain. Fantastic! The refried beans, well, were ok, but just ok. The Hatch greenies, as you'd expect, were outstanding and very flavorful. I ordered them Christmas style, with green and red sauce. Both of those condiments were tasty, but of the two, the green sauce stood out. Boy did it ever. I'll be dreaming of that sauce later tonight. Hopefully my girlfriend doesn't pop into the picture.....OR, maybe she should! LoL, now that would be a dream! Don't worry about parking, as there is more than ample. You can park in the front, the back, either side, and if you're driving a big rig, pulling a trailer, or driving a tank, they've got you covered. Across the street is special parking for those vehicles. More parking outside than tables inside. Pay La Cita a visit for a romantic dinner, or as I did, by yourself....my dream trend may have helped with that. Hey, I may be old, but certainly not dead! Quick Tip: I parked in the back, and when leaving, I took the dirt alley. It was a fun adventure. I'd suggest that you do it during daylight hours though. You never know who you'll run into, or for that matter, over! Let's hope it isn't Skinny Pete or Badger.

Based off of the other Yelp reviews, I had high hopes, but unfortunately, we were let down by this place. We ordered online and ordered multiple different dishes in order to try them out. Here are the dishes that I got: Brisket Burrito: The meat was dried out and tasted several days old and reheated. The burrito also didn't seem to have the pan fried potatoes that were supposed to be in it. Tacos al Carbon: From the first bite I knew I wasn't going to eat these; the steak tasted weird, with a weird texture, and seemed old. Enchilladas: I got them with beef & green sauce; the beef had a decent flavor and texture. Stuffed Sopapilla: The sopapilla itself had a good comfort food type of taste and texture. I got it with beef & green sauce. The beef had a decent flavor and texture. As for the sides--the Mexican rice just tasted like salt, and the beans were bland and flavorless. If you're looking for fresh, yummy Mexican food--don't waste your money on this place. I have no idea how it has so many good Yelp reviews.

Only two staff working which I know Taco Bell's drive thru is a beast on most days. Tonight however was chill. The family and I wanted something quick and not too heavy. Nacho Bell Grandes and a one 5 layer burrito minus the sour cream. Ehhh.. The hot toppings on the Nachos appeared slopped on with no regards to presentation. It was quick I will give you that but I don't think quick over rules food preparation and presentation. In my younger years, I remember working at Taco Bell and our manager was really strict about presentation saying to the cooks, "If you wouldn't eat it that way don't serve it that way." These were my thoughts but the items were freshly made. I ran in to the establishment to grab an order I forgot through drive thru and observing the staff at drive thru taking orders (who will also take my order) she is literally stepping over trash. Like trash from the plastic cup sleeves and lids dropped, napkins, and straws whatever else was on the floor it looked like they got slammed and couldn't keep up. I highly recommend at a certain time they should shut the lobby so that they'll have time to properly prepare food and also clean. Allow the staff to concentrated on the drive thru and they can keep the backend tidy after all lobby the customers can see the ground in the back from the front counter....which isn't appealing. That is a staffing complaint not a particular staff problem.
