If you went to PVAMU then you know Fuentes is thee spot in the city to get your drinks! For 4 years of my undergrad and every homecoming I return to Fuentes for their margs & their enchiladas! I always get the enchiladas verdes plate with 2 chicken 1 cheese and it's so good!! I will say I haven't had their food in a couple years so it tasted different but it may be the quality of dine in vs take out. Fuentes will always be the spot for drinks and a quick bite especially around Hempstead with not too too many options. Their prices are decent could be better and I can say sometimes their service isn't the best. I know many of PV students who complain about their really bad service here. Though I have not personally experience it, I do think it's important to share. So in my opinion. 4/5 for food options and variety & drinks but I gave them 3/5 stars for simply service read more

We were in heavy traffic on 290 E headed home on Easter Sunday from a weekend of Blue Bonnet gazing and we were STARVING!!! Then traffic slowed to stop and go. We bailed off in Hempstead with no idea where we could find a restaurant that was open. And then we saw Las Fuentes! Las Fuentes looks like it could be great or not so great from the outside. The food was very good, it was served very fast and the prices are great. It reminds me of Papasitos in Houston for style and quality, but the prices are much lower. WE LOVED IT!! Oh man. I really wish this place would improve with its food. It's just awful though. My family has come here countless times throughout the last 20+ years. And it started out okay, but has gotten a little worse every year. Last night was the icing on the cake though! The 'green salsa' was rancid and chunky. And I ordered a veggie quesadilla.. and it came with asian stir fry veggies inside. Lima beans, snow peas, etc. It was so gross. So I had to pick it all out, and paid $11 for a 1/2 order of cheese quesadillas. This place has gotten lazy, and is barely even Mexican food anymore. Really disgusting and disappointing. We have eaten here since they opened their doors. I chose to stay near Somerville while doing the Round Top Fair so we could eat here at the end of our day. Having missed 3years of the festival I was excited to come back this year. I don't know what happened in those 3 years but I was disappointed with the food. My wife had flavorless chicken fajitas. Steer away from this place. Straight up waist of money, and time. They bring you the wrong things and the food is below average. I ordered the bbq wings and boy did I get some bbq sauce with it. More like I got half a gallon of bbq sauce with "wings". I was having to fish them out of the bbq sauce and wipe them down with a napkin. I sent them back and you could tell they only took a towel and wiped them down and sent them back to me. Despite what I heard regarding Las Fuentes, I went anyways and overall it was pretty good! I got the Las Fuentes Special (for one -- there is one for two) and it was good. It did not come with sour cream or cheese and a side of sour cream (pictured) was $2.75; I believe the cheese was $1.50 or something like that. Hempstead must not have any decent Tex Mex restaurants in town. I came here after reading the good reviews on Yelp. When I walked in the place smelled like sewer and the food didn't improve my improve my experience. I ordered a combination with cheese enchiladas and a "Crispy" taco. The enchiladas were left in the over so long that the cheese hardened on top of them. The taco was so soggy that it was inedible and the enchiladas were crispy from the hardened cheese. See my pic. I do like that they give you a small bowl of queso and the chips an salsa were OK. I think I might judge Mexican restaurants too harshly because I am tuned into their flavors. I have eaten much Mexican food in the last month due to my travels through the south, and although I always leave full I always leave desiring something more. Not sure what or why, but I do. Tonight I ate the chicken fajitas poblanas. My companions had beef tacos and a chicken quesadilla. One of the best things was the chunky guacamole thanks to its extreme freshness. All in all we were very pleased with the service and the food was well prepared. No complaints from anyone. Given the lack of alcohol served in this town, I think Las Fuentes has a strong hold on the market and that alone would bring me back to eat here if I was ever to find myself in Hempsted. Bad food selection; too sloppy and tasteless. Not worth the quality. If you're ever in Hempstead and are starving, just keep going. There are better options. Positive: The margaritas but, you have to sit at the bar (or be at the bar) to be served and the bar isn't large enough to sit 10 people. It's the only bar for miles, dry county.
