We were in the mood for some Nica food and wanted to try something new other than Oye Managua and Rinconcito. So the wife found this little spot. We got the Isletas Especial, which is basically Plato Nica Especial for two. It came with a generous of portion of everything except Gallo pinto, which I wish they would give us more of instead of the abundance of tajadas. I think rice goes pairs much better with the proteins than fried plantain does. But oh well, all is good. The price of $45 was reasonable given the taste and portion size. We liked it better than the comparable dish from Oye. Will definitely be back to try their baho and desayuno dishes. Street parking was easy on a saturday. read more

Amazing! Honestly, sometimes it's hard to find good Nicaraguan food that takes you back nostalgic times. This hit the spot! I started with cacao and this was creamy, chocolatey and delicious. We shared La Isletas platter for 2 people and this came with grilled pork, beef, chicken and tajadas, gallo pinto, fried cheese and salad. Maduro too which are sweet plantains. Went here last Thursday and the food was awful. Service was awful. And on top of that it was a $107 check. For food I didn't even eat. I don't see why there is so many positive reviews. This place is pricey I ordered two "soupa de 7 mares" each one was around $40. I ordered maybe like 3 sodas and still my total came out to $107. You would think that for that price you would be getting quality food but your not. It was the worst food I had ever eaten in my life. Like I said I didn't even eat it since I knew from the start they both were not good. I asked for something to be done and the workers just said I had to pay for something I didn't even eat. This is my favorite restaurant for pupusas. I have tried their sopa de res (beef soup), fried plantains (maduros), fresco de ensalada (fruit cocktail drink) - all of these are very delicious. I call ahead to place my order over the phone for pick-up. They are also very accurate on the time when they say the order will be ready. read more

I've only ordered takeout so my rating is based on the food itself. I have only ordered twice, 1st order was the Plato Nica and the second order was 2 Pupusas revueltas with arroz y frijoles. Plato Nica: the meat was well seasoned and cooked. The gallopinto was one of the best I've had. The platanos were perfect and the cheese was not salty like others I've had before. I didn't have high hopes that a restaurant that offers comida Nica, Honduran and Salvadorean all in one would make good Pupusas. But let me tell you, these are the best Pupusas I have ever had. They were nice and crispy but juicy at the same time. I hate a dry Pupusa and this was far from dry. The refried beans and rice that accompanied were full of flavor. I wasn't too big of a fan of the curtido, but the Pupusas were good enough on their own. Try them out, you won't be disappointed. Gotta thank these hole in the walls for providing a needed change of pace! We came here last weekend because a good friend insisted that they had the best Huevos Rancheros. When my plate arrived, my first thought was, "this is huge!" The plate had beans, eggs, two long strips of plantain bananas, sour cream, and tortillas. The waitress explained to us that we were having a "Cuban" version of the dish and while it was pretty good, there's just too much darn competition when it comes to latin food. (So yes, I've had better) You do get free chips and salsa here and if you're anything like me, you will stuff yourself while waiting for your food to arrive. I just finished a fantastic early dinner at Las Isletas. Today I enjoyed two zucchini and cheese pupusas with their house salsa and curtido. Their rice and beans were perfectly prepared and good enough to eat alone. The Bayview is so lucky to have such a great Central American restaurant with a diversity of Honduran and Nicaraguan dishes. I will certainly be returning with a larger appetite next time so I can enjoy their mixed plate offerings! read more

I was there Jun/8/2019 around 5:30pm. My First impression was small place and didn't look clean (that should of been a warning sign) but since I was with a group of 5 they really wanted to eat there. We were all ready seated for about 30min and had ordered our food. We saw a fat cockroach with an egg right above where they place the food. We immediately told the lady waiter and cancelled our order(She saw it as well and didn't say anything).We honestly felt bad cancelling because our food was ready to serve. We had Sunday lunch/brunch here last week and I was really happy to have found a Mexican restaurant in this area that focuses on great seafood dishes. The atmosphere is unhurried and family oriented, though that means it's pretty loud, but it's the joyous kind of kid and adult noise that tell you everyone is enjoying being out together sharing a meal. The only advice I can give is to look at their menu online and decide what you might like as I was overwhelmed by the print menu. Besides not being that proficient in Spanish, there are a LOT of choices. The only thing consoling me was that I'll be going back to try the items I missed in my confusion. There are dishes there that might be known to locals or ordered in a way unknown to me, as I saw large platters of fish and crab come out. When we return with family, I'm going to figure it out. We had meals that highlighted shrimp as the main ingredient and the shrimp were very well cooked. The seafood is fresh, the wait staff is good, they're efficient and helpful. The place is super clean. I watched the bus persons disinfecting tables and chairs when patrons vacated, and they actually did it twice. Very impressive. read more

Food is ample, tasty, and cheap. Stuff yourself silly for $5-10, including tasty agua fresca, 3-5 more if you want some seafood or a beer. Probably the least expensive sit down restaurant in town yet very good. Atmosphere is basic but charming. A TV is always on soccer, Spanish-language movies, or variety shows from Mexico. A jukebox blasts random latin pop tunes, understand the words or not you want to beat your chest and cry into your caldo de rez. Brush up on language skills because peeps here don't know simple English like "fork" or "lemon" or "chicken". But they're cheerful and play along with your point and squawk attempts at grade school Spanish. In the back a waitress takes time to prepare flowers, wrap big stuffed plushies in cellophane, and some other random businesses they have going. Meanwhile the crowd is a cross section of working class guys, sexy young mothers in things that would shock the grandma, kids, truckers. What kills here is the tamales. Easily as big as a small burrito, really tasty, flavorful corn, and at $2.50 each less than you might pay at a random gas station. One is easily a lunch, two is a big dinner. One the way out you can grab a small selection of pan dulce from a local bakery. Kind of a grab bag, good luck figuring out whether a washcloth-sized dark brown turtle is stuffed with custard, jam, or is just dry shortbread, but it's 75 cents so just take your chances. More than anything, it feels good. It's an easy two blocks away by the Muni from the famed flora grub, so next time you're spending $300 on plants and fertilizer, treat yourself to a $10 food reward! read more

We went to visit the nursery nearby and I was already drunk from taking one too many tastings at Harrington Wine. Unfortunately the nursery had just closed but they recommended us to a place around the corner for some awesome pupusas. Las Isletas doesn't have much in the form of colorful windows or obvious signage but it's next to a MetroPCS store. The place is small, sparse, the common language wafting around the room not English, but no one gave us a hard time for being the odd ones out. Waitress was friendly and happy to bring us more salsa/lemons/water when asked for. The cuisine is Salvadorean, Nicaraguan, and Mexican... all of it awesome CHEAP food. Homemade horcata a little chalky but full of flavor and cinnamon. The tamales pillowy soft, fork cuts through them like moist fresh cake right out of the oven. I ordered the chicken one ($2.50) and inside was everything from green olives to chickpeas to potato. The leaf it was wrapped in was smooth and dark green and the tamale was much larger than I was used to seeing elsewhere. Definitely a meal in itself. Zucchini and cheese pupusa ($2.00) was a delicious combination that was light and fresh in flavor but still really filling to the stomach. Sopa de 7 Mares ($14.00) was an extravagant and large seafood stew filled with 5 large shrimp (shells and head on), 2 scallops, a lobster claw, 2 clams, 2 mussels, 2 imitation lobster balls, and a CATFISH HEAD. I have no doubt I'm getting my money's worth here. We loved it so much we came back the next day, and the tamale was just as good sober as it was when I was drunk. Wow! Beyond shocked. A little upset actually.. U came in here very hopeful and went straight for the popusas. They tasted pretty damn good but grotesquely greasy. This is where I get upset.. Actually, I'm still sitting here. I ordered and horchata and as I took a sip a tasted sour.. I gave it a second chance in case it was me.. It wasn't. I called the waitress over and so I would be polite and not make a scene I told her in a soft voice that it tasted a little sour and ordered something else instead. She gave me a sneer and walked away. When he came back with my new drink she sat it down and walked away. I said thanks and didn't even get a nod. I finished my meal and waited and waited for a check from her until I had to ask. She didn't even make eye contact and with a very dry tone said shed get it.
