My families favorite pupuseria. However, one time the curtido was a tad bit salty but since then no issues and the best horchata in town!!!!

Nice little El Salvadoran spot. Always has people inside, but never too busy. We had two pupusas, pollo and chicharon, and the sopa de marisco. The latter came with two thick soft corn tortillas (maybe that's El Salvador style?). Both had really good portions for the price. Good for when you want to switch it up from balompi down the block. I ordered 2 pupusas ala carte one with zucchini and cheese and the other with loroco and cheese. These are only $2.50 each, what a deal. I am a creature of habit and always order the same wherever I go. My mom ordered the Vegetarian omelet which was a nice generous breakfast portion. Recently moved in the neighborhood and wanted to check out the local digs. Along Mission there are 3 or 4 Salvadorean restaurants within a 3 blocks of each other. I grew up in Los Angeles surrounded by Salvadorean restaurants so this brought a sense of familiarity. That said, I'd been to Balompie (down the street) in the past and it was just okay. Montecristo seemed to get a lot of love on Yelp so I figured why not. The place was pretty chill, a few families and a couple people who'd maybe just gotten off of work. Clearly this was a place they frequented and loved. Ordered a couple different pupusas (one chicken and one pork) as well as a plate of platano frito with crema and black beans. And what can I say except, this might be my favorite Salvadorean spot! The platano frito was especially memorable, it had a nice crisp to it and it paired perfect with the crema and frijoles. The pupusas were great as well, and the curtido was abundant. Can't wait to come back and try their other plates! read more

Ordered 10 pupusas and sopa de Pata for pickup. The rice pupusas were very tasty. I highly recommend them. My hubby ate the sopa de Pata and said it's one of the best he had in a while. It took about 30 minutes for my order to be ready. The restaurant looked cleaned, and staff were attentive. Mom and I were hungry and we'd heard about this place from a friend of hers, so we decided to go here. She had the Huevos con Chorizo and I had the Combination Pupusa plate with beans and rice. I got Pupusas Revueltas (mixed) and damn were they delicious! The refried beans were so, so good. And the price was criminally cheap, at 9 bucks. Super filling and good. My mom was really pleased with her plate, which was eggs with chorizo, refried beans, cheese and 2 handmade tortillas. Her cheese was so good (a soft Salvadorean style cheese) and she was raving about it. My first time at this joint. The plantains were very ripe, just like they should be. The pupusas were delicious. Probably the best so far in my search for the perfect SF Salvadoran restaurant. The service was also very good and the only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is the music. It gave me this strange sensation of wanting to cut myself!!
