Sometimes you just want something comforting, simple, and real, you know? Balompié Cafe No. 3 on Mission does exactly that. Food: 8/10 Service: 9/10 Ambiance: No rating, I ordered to go FOOD: 8/10 I ordered 6 "RF pupusas" (Pork, Beans, Cheese), and honestly, they hit the spot. They weren't the most stuffed or loaded I've had. I've definitely had more over-the-top pupusas elsewhere, but for what you pay, they feel totally fair. The dough is soft but has a nice chew, and the fillings are solid. You get that classic Salvadoran flavor with curtido (cabbage pickled salad) and their tomato sauce, which I always appreciate. Looking at their menu, they don't just sell Pupusas! They also sell tamales, yuca, combo plates, and more. SERVICE: 9/10 Super friendly staff. Since I was doing a to-go order, things were pretty smooth. Extra notes: - Prices are pretty reasonable, especially considering the quality is solid and the portions are good. - Location-wise, it's on Mission Street, so allow time for parking. Balompié Cafe No. 3 is a really solid go-to for Salvadoran comfort food on the run. The pupusas are reliable and tasty enough. Not a destination for "fancy Salvadoran," but absolutely a dependable spot when you want something hearty, cheap-ish, and homey.

One of the best spots in the city for pupusas, hands down. I'm not listening to the naysayers--these pupusas hit the perfect balance of cheese, beans, and pork. Other spots I'm eating masa. Unlike many places that serve greasy pupusas, these are nicely made and not greasy. We usually order takeout since the dining area is small unless you go early. Parking can be a headache, but I've always managed to snag a spot (knock on wood). The staff are friendly, and we always leave full and happy!

Something about this corner restaurant makes me smile ;') Brunch time here is lively, comforting, and full of warm welcomes from employees and customers. At other Pupusa restaurants I've had in the city, sometimes the fillings all taste the same. At Balompie you can really differentiate each as the fillings are flavorful & fresh, sandwiched alongside crispy flour tortillas. Recommend: Pork, Beans, & Cheese and Loroco & Cheese (earthy vegetal flower bud!). Beef soup with veggies was such a nice pairing for breakfast with the cheesy Pupusas! Definitely want to come back to try their other plates.

    Receipt. So cheap!

My girlfriend and I came here around 2:20 pm on a Friday. Not too packed. We got sat and the menu was pretty vast, but we came here specifically for the pupusas. We got bean and cheese, chicharron, pork beans and cheese, carne asada, and chorizo. All of them were so delicious it was insane. They are all cooked to perfection and the ratio was amazing. Such a great vibe to sit down and eat with some friends.

The best pupusas in the city. Nice cozy restaurant but we chose to do some takeout this go round since there wasn't any parking close by. Quite a wait even though it wasn't too busy, but overall great value for some grubbin' food.

This wasn't on the menu anymore:( I usually get one pupusa and their Salvadoran tamales.

Been coming here for a few years now. But it's been a good two years since I came back. I was craving their Salvadoran tamales. They menu has changed and this was not on it anymore. But they were able to make it happen. Pro: pupusa still hit! Con: tamales got smaller :(

Still amazing food and service, I love how this place is always tasty & usually friendly! Plus they get my order correct. The food takes a min but its fresh and great quality! I love this establishment!

Came here on a Friday ordered so many pupusas. The service was so nice and the passion fruit water we got was delicious.

I had the pork and cheese, chorizo, and the pork and beans pupusas. Super good portions and it came with a tasty sauce. The filling felt like it had a good portion too. They were pretty crispy and didn't feel too oily. If you're not a cheese fan, maybe go for the non cheese option as they do pack it with cheese. Very solid 3 that filled me up. Pretty cheap too

Best pupusas I have ever had. Finding parking is not too bad. Once you have tried it, this will be your go to place.

Happy Hour specials from 3pm to something something, I forgot the time, but basically it's $4 something for their amazing pupusas and $3 and some change for their agua frescas. Their horchata is 10/10. I catch myself ordering a carrier full so I can store it in my refrigerator at home. It's just the right amount of crazy to cinnamon and tastes homemade and not super sweet. Their mango agua fresca is like a 12. Next level amazing. I bought one and walked halfway down the street and turned back to buy another one. Their passionfruit is my least favorite. Their pupusas are handmade and taste amazing. Vegetarian or not, I've liked them all. I feel that they heat up well (I buy a bunch so when I'm at home and lazy I have food to eat), or if you eat them there they are fresh. What more can you ask for? Eat here and experience what the Mission has to offer!

For take out, they have a 2 for $8 dollars deal if you pay with cash (save ~1.50). I opted for 2 pork with beans, and it was delicious, but mainly noticed and tasted the beans. We also ordered the combo with 2 pupusas (one sausage and one pork) that comes with sides of plantains, guac, sour cream, and beans. The amount of meat in each pupusa was minimal that we thought they gave us a different one. The sauce and vegetables with the pupusa was a must -- so good. There's usually a wait but worth it for a great spot with affordable prices.

This was my…read moresecond time coming here and wow... every single time they swing for the fences and knock it clean out of the park. The pupusas here are out of this world. I got the bean and cheese and the cheese and jalapeño and both were absolute flavor bombs. The outside had that perfect golden crisp while the inside was warm, soft, and packed with cheesy goodness. That homemade taste hits like comfort food poetry -- the kind that makes you pause mid-bite and just appreciate the moment. Each pupusa felt like a little edible hug straight from someone's family kitchen. This place is a true mom and pop gold mine tucked right into the Mission. The people here are so friendly and so hospitable it honestly felt like I walked into my grandparents' house for Sunday dinner. Warm smiles, welcoming energy, and food made with the kind of care you can taste in every bite. The restaurant itself is clean, organized, and full of that authentic neighborhood charm. Nothing flashy, just honest food that speaks for itself -- and trust me, it speaks loud. Now this is the Mission District so parking is basically a city sport. Park wherever you can and then walk, jog, or straight up power march to this place. Because once those pupusas hit the table, the smell alone will have you feeling like you struck culinary gold. The food here isn't just good... it's the kind of good that lingers in your memory long after the plate is empty. And when I'm back in the city, best believe I'll be following that pupusa trail right back here again.
