Although there have been some inconsistencies in this cute Mexican restaurant, our latest experience was great. The selections they have are over and above....it takes awhile to preview choices. This time we had crab enchiladas and chicken fajitas. Both were excellent and overly generous portions so it made for great reheated the next day. Our server did nice job as we pondered our order. She wasn't busy at that early hour but we still appreciate her patience as we were looking at several options. Food was served fresh, hot and tasty. I don't know how they keep such long open hours or the large variety of choices but it's wonderful that they do. We went to LaCrosse to visit my daughter for her 19th birthday. After looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant we thought Las Margaritas looked good! Well, it was good until we ordered... the waitress was nice but once we ordered we were quickly disappointed. We ordered meals that is supposed to come with beans and rice, as usual. After the waitress taking our order about 5 minutes later she came to tell us they didn't have beans, beans! I was disappointed but I put that aside for my daughter's sake on her bday. The waitress advised she could substitute with more rice. We all said ok. Then I wanted to order a soda because the horchata I ordered wasn't good I waited 10 minutes with our waitress not in sight. My husband wanted to order us an alcoholic drink so we went to the bar to see if we could order it there to drink while we wait. We ran into our waitress and Then we were sadly advised that they were also out of rice!!! Rice?! How?! It's a Mexican restaurant! It doesn't take long to make Mexican rice. The waitress provided alternatives (mashed potatoes, fries or a salad). Then I was just irritated! It took them that long to tell us they were out of staples! Again I pushed my irritation aside for my daughter. Once we got our food, I ordered tacos the tacos were small and barely any meat in them. I got steak and it was so gross! It was grisly and I had to remove 1/2 the meat of my already small steak tacos. This was the worst food experience I've had! I will never be back or recommend! They did comp the fries we ended up ordering because who eats mashed potatoes with Mexican food? I felt like all of our food should have been discounted! I was highly disappointed! read more

It's hard for me to say exactly how i feel about Las Margaritas. Everything looks authentic but the menu is HUGE! it offers a variety of American dishes and Mexican dishes. I couldn't tell which route the restaurant was trying to go out what crowd they were trying to aim for. We got there at 11a for lunch. Got seated and placed our orders right away. Everything was under seasoned. Salsa was a bit bland, needed salt and a little kick of jalapeños. Tacos and enchiladas were good but not great - under seasoned. The tortillas are white corn and very flaky which wasn't to our liking. It seemed old almost. The steak ranchero was a big disappointment. I asked for medium rare. The steak came out half fully cooked and half blue rare. It tasted sous vide then just tapped on a grill for color. Nothing charboiled about it. It also had a refrigerator taste and it didn't come out hot but more so room temp. Again everything was under seasoned so i added some salt but couldn't bare to finish. The beans were by the far the best part of our experience. Rice was old and again, refrigerator smell and taste to it. Service was great - just wished we got the authentic experience we were looking for. Moving from a huge Hispanic environment, we've had authentic flavors before so this definitely missed the mark. We decided to stop in on a weeknight for an early casual date night dinner. Parking was super convenient because they have their own parking lot. As soon as we entered the restaurant, we were greeted right away and shown to our seats. The restaurant's decor was very festive and colorful. As soon as we got seated, we were served complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were warm and tasted freshly fried. The salsa was very mildly spiced, but still tasty. We ordered a Combination of Three dinner (enchilada, tamale, chile relleno) which came with rice and beans. The chile relleno's batter tasted weird and the texture was kind of spongey, but the rest of the dish still tasted good. We also ordered the Mojarra Frita (deep fried whole tilapia), which came with rice and salad. The salad was not dressed, which I didn't mind, because it paired nicely with the fish. The rice had some cheese melted on it and was very lightly seasoned. The fish was fried perfectly, and it wasn't too greasy. It was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I recommend squeezing some lemon juice over the fish to cut through some of the oiliness of the fried fish. I really enjoyed this dish and would gladly order it again. Service was fast, friendly, and casual. Overall, the food was good, portion sizes were very generous, and prices were reasonable. Definitely worth checking out if you are craving some Mexican food. read more

My mom & I stopped in for dinner Monday night. A little surprised when perusing the menu online it said....drive thru! Sure enough as we were coming down the road you could tell it was a drive thru!!So the bar wasn't set particularly high but I'm also a big believer in the most unassuming places can prepare some rather delicious meals! We arrived about 5:30 and felt like we had beat the dinner rush as the parking lot was rather empty. Beautiful & colorful art hangs all over the restaurant walls. Colorful beautifully carved chairs awaited us inside. I liked that the restaurant was sort of divided in to thirds....keeps the noise to a minimum. She promptly brought out chips and salsa...when I heard my mom say "mmm warm chips!" What? I've never heard of warm, freshly made chips! Bonus points! We again perused he menu and both opted for number 22 Burrito Supremo under the House Specials. Me w chicken and sans tomatoes, her for ground beef. WHOA! I am not exaggerating when I say I think Lenondro brought out our meals in under five minutes! They were so delicious and neither of us even ate half! Not hat we overindulged in chips and salsa; we still had half a basket left when our food arrived. As we sat and looked over the specials they have some good deals on margaritas and margarita pitchers and some rather interesting options.... a banana margarita? I am quite intrigued and if he everything else I experienced up until this point wasn't already bringing me back in, this drink would! When I went up to pay, our server was standing near the take out window, so I had to walk by the spacious bar. Las Margaritas really covers all the bases for seating/dining options! The menu is expansive with your typical Mexican offerings, then they have standard American options such as burgers, wraps, sandwiches and pastas. We looked over the dessert menu but we knew that wouldn't be happening, never enough room, ha. I feel like Las Margaritas may be a hidden gem. Mildly disappointing after hearing so many radio commercials for this place!! I would call this restaurant the "Applebees of Mexican food." Just an average food quality restaurant and atmosphere. They were not busy at all and it was Saturday night which should've been a sign. We sat at the bar and got margaritas which were average. I ordered pollo molé and my man ordered a carne asada burrito. For the price, I wouldn't visit again. The staff was nice but obviously annoyed that we were in the restaurant an hour before closing. read more

Took my son and his girlfriend here today. First thing we noticed was the smell. Not that yummy smell that makes your mouth water, but the kind of smell that had all of us wondering what it even was. Definitely not appetizing. Service was slow, and not once during our meal were we asked how things were or if we needed anything. And the food... the refried beans were sitting in a pool of grease. The rice was lumpy and overcooked, sometimes hard and crunchy. And all three of our meals were just not good. We all agreed, with no exaggerating, that this was the worst Mexican restaurant we'd ever been to. read more

Food was a major disappointment. The guacamole tastes fake and the entrees taste like the have been in the freezer for months and then reheated. This place has all the potential to be great, but their menu is too big and they cut corners to save money. The food lacked any flavor except reheated freezer burn. On a positive note our server was so sweet, hard working, and had a friendly smile. She said she was from Columbia and she was the only thing good about this restaurant. I hope she takes that amazing smile and great service somewhere else. She was special. They could maybe make her the manager and whip this place into shape. I love good Mexican food and this was not it. I don't plan to return and this was my second visit in a while hoping they improved but did not. read more

So I probably shouldn't write this review because for me, there is only good Mexican food and great Mexican food. Yes I'm sure there are bad ones out there but Mexican food is something I enjoy weekly or twice weekly with no apologies. As I understand it, this isn't a new place but they have a new location and building. So it's new to me. First off, the salsa was warm. I mean spicy warm. Wasn't ready for salsa with a kick. Yeah... I had 4 bowls of it. Thank you. Wife ordered the special Chicken Diablo. Even the name sounds spicy. She enjoyed and the 4 glasses of water. I ordered the fajita burrito and it was amazing. I know.... I know.... I say that about all the Mexican food I eat. Had the beef. Something about the flavor. It was WOW. I wanted to dissect my burrito and just eat that amazing meat. Next time, just give me a steak burrito and hold the burrito. It was really good. Service was excellent. I may have found a new Favorite Mexican restaurant to add to my list of favorite Mexican restaurants. I promise you I will be going back here. read more

I had the Beef Fajitas with Cali Veggies. I remembered the last 2 times we came here the food was really good, but today....the food lacked so much flavor, and it was mainly the steak!! I felt like we had more flavor from the salsa than our meals. It just wasn't that good this time around which is disappointing. The salsa and chips are always good, and I love that the chips are served warm. We came here for an early lunch on Sunday not knowing that they now serve breakfast; opening at 0700 everyday according to our server. My wife had Huevos Racheros and I had the Machaca con Huevos. Both were very large portions, so much so we could easily have shared either plate and be satisfied. The flavor was good, but I think the machaca could have used more seasoning such as more garlic. The salsa was good but we ordered the extra spicy salsa for $1.25 and mixed it with the original served salsa; we enjoyed it. The service was very good and the food came out quickly and piping hot! The price was reasonable and we both agreed that we would come back to try different items. I recommend both the Machaca and Huevos Ranchero. The place was clean and well decorated. The food was delicious! I went with my parents while visiting town, and ordered the burrito express -- their carnitas were the best I've had and there was just the right amount of pico de gallo, salsa, and cheese. The margaritas were also perfect. Service was prompt and very friendly, the kitchen was fast, and prices were just right. Very nice ambience with comfortable carved wooden booths and colorful decorations, traditional music in the background and even a bachelorette party celebrating in the big front room. My mother told me that if I didn't have anything nice to say, don't say it. I am not going to say "it". Oh well, I never was a good daughter. The portions are average. The sides are microscopic, like sour cream, guacamole, and beans. My seafood burrito was a little skinny version of an eel. It tasted like I licked the bottom of a ship. My husband and I have been going to Las Margaritas for a little over a year now, it was "our" restaurant. We were a little disappointed when they moved from their downtown location, as it was within walking distance for us. Either way we loved the food so much we frequented the new location on State road often, at least 2 times a week. Well we werent able to go as much and hadnt been there in about 2months, we decided to treat ourselves last night. I have to say we wont be back, we ordered the carne asada as we always do, normally the steak is charred, last night it was not, it was gray in color, and it was super salty, rice was super spicy, couldnt even eat it. The chips are usually warm and they tasted stale, the salsa was not the same either. The waiters are usually happy go lucky saying hi, pleasant in every way, last nite they were not, they seemed exhausted, unhappy and just didnt want to be there. Not sure whats going on, but we have met Leo, the owners son on many occasion, especially at the downtown location, and he is just the best, so Leo whats up with the La Crosse location?? So disappointed in our whole experience last night. Glad you guys got bigger, but thats not always better, sorry but enjoyed Las Margaritas way more when you guys were in your downtown location. read more
