I love this place so much!! Really good snacks for cheap! We got a large elote, 2 Aguas frescos, a hot Cheetos and cheese., and a large fruit cup for about $20 Really great service, they let you choose the spice level and they are really nice about options. The outside doesn't look the most inviting but the food is great and the staff is so nice! read more

My husband's favorite stop when visiting his home town NEVER disappoints! Try the raspas or Italian ice. Our favorites are Sandia and Mango Loco or Mangonada. If you go here expecting a Dairy Queen you should probably just turn around because Las Nieves is nothing if not authentically true to it's roots. read more

Visited in the heat of the day to cool down with some shaved ice. We got cherry and grape raspas + ice cream (cheesecake flavor) and tamarind and mango natural fruit shaved ice. All of the raspas are made with slightly larger pieces of ice (not shaved) and flavored with fruit syrups. This type of ice is analogous to what's in a typical snow-cone. You can add a scoop of ice cream (1 scoop for the small size, 2 for the large size) for about 50 cents more. I really liked how the large raspa had one of the scoops on the top of the ice and one in the middle of the cup, allowing you to enjoy the surprisingly good mix of flavored ice and ice cream all the way through. The large is more than enough for one person. The natural fruit shaved ice is more like Italian ice, shaved extremely fine and smooth. For some of the fruits, like mango, there are tiny pieces of actual fruit mixed throughout the ice. These tasted like the fruits themselves, not like any artificial version (although I'm sure they still add a bit of sweetener to them all). The only thing to complain about would be the long wait. Sometimes it may take up to 10 minutes to get your ice, but it's understandable seeing as the line never got shorter the entire time we were there. Additionally the seating is a bit run-down, but that's what you get for a side-of-the-road shaved ice operation. A wonderful variety of shaved ice at rock-bottom prices. 4.5/5 stars. read more

I ventured out here with a girlfriend when we had some downtime after our teacher conference at the convention center downtown. We ordered a few different things and they were all yummy treats. The corn in a cup was just as expected--mayo, lime, cheese, a little chile powder. The pepino (cucumber) sundae was the real star of the show. With different flavors of shaved ice, a bunch of sweet and sour candies, and cucumber slices below, I couldn't believe how well the flavors meshed. Hope to find myself back in San Antonio soon to explore more of their massive menu. read more

The best tasting coconut ice cream I've ever had! It wasn't just coconut flavored, but it had tons of shredded coconut in it. No inside seating. One picnic bench outside but tons of flies around. This place is amazing! Let me tell you, it has the best natural fruit shaved ice! Usually during the summer the lines get crazy and super long. Sometimes the line can turn people away, but it actually moves pretty fast. I was trying to think when I first started going here and it was when I was at my second job in 2009. That was a long time ago, but nevertheless my coworkers introduced me to this hidden gem. There was only one location at the time on Blanco Rd and then they opened this one. I go to either one. The service and product is consistent at both locations. You will be satisfied with any of the fruit shaved ice! My favorites are mango and strawberry. You can order them with lucas and chamoy or without. I usually get it plain and my sister orders it with chamoy and lucas. They have new flavors, so try them out if you haven't done so. Oh dear god...am I going to have to learn new gang signs so I don't get shanked was the first uncharitable thought I had when we pulled up to this place the first time, (I KNOW!! terrible thought...and I did admit to it being uncharitable) next to a couple of cholo filled low riders. But nothing like unity in diversity at a good frutteria! Raspas and fruit with lucas is a definite must get here. The ice cream is very generic, but the raspas are great. I am particularly fond of the tamarind...this is a gorgeous green chlrophyll laden sweet tangy concoction that makes you crave it, and for me it brought back childhood memories of tamarind drinks in the summers. The fruit is a crazy good deal here. Its not always perfectly ripened, but hey for $3 you get this giant cup full of mango or whatever hell else you want, throw on some Lucas (for those of you not in the know, this is a seasoning powder with chili, salt, citric acid and sugar and its f'in delicious) and munch away to ride off into yet another magical sunset.... read more

The atmosphere is weird here. You order through one of two unlabeled windows, and after ordering they slam the glass shut on you. Then...you receive your goods through the same window? I don't know what the point of the two windows is. There isn't anywhere to sit except for a picnic table in desperate need of a repainting. We hadn't planned on this, so we went to our cars to tailgate. This wouldn't have been a problem, except the parking lot is also located next to the dumpster. Anyway, the shaved ice was delicious, I ordered watermelon and lime with lucas on top. The raspas, however (mango with vanilla ice cream and raspberry with vanilla ice cream), was sickeningly sweet with large chunks of ice and the others didn't seem to particularly enjoy it. I can't rate any higher than 2 stars due to the service, establishment, and only 1/4 of the desserts ordered were good. read more

What a weird place. I was confused and didn't know what was going on for most of the time. We were looking for someplace to get shaved ice/ice cream, and Yelp told us this was a good one. The road was totally torn up with construction, to the point that we were thankful for our SUV that actually allowed us to get up the embankment. We got in line behind maybe four other people. After not moving for a while, we realized there were two lines and got in the other line. After not moving in that one, we switched lines again. We were confused why no one was moving and why it seemed no one was interested in taking anyone's order. I want to say we were there for nearly 30 minutes waiting, no thanks to the girls in front of us who (when someone finally came to the window) ordered for 10 people, then once they paid, decided they weren't done and needed to order for the rest of their neighborhood. The quality and price was right, though I asked for pineapple and received mango. It was also confusing that we heard the people working speaking English, and yet once we got to the window, they acted like they didn't speak English and had trouble understanding what we were saying. read more

First visit. We had corn in a cup and the lemonade. Chile, mayo, cheese and butter with the corn....fabulous! Lemonade was good and refreshing. Parking lot is small. Will definitely be going back for the shaved ice. read more

Las Nieves didn't win the award for Best Shaved Ice in S.A. for nothing. I've been to this location and the trailers posted up in various locations around town and they've never failed me. I recommend cherry,strawberry for mango. There are other flavors such as cantaloupe or lime though not as many flavors as the competition but I'll try them soon. They also sell Blue Bunny ice cream products which can be found in your local grocery store or by your friendly neighborhood ice cream man. Las Nieves beats Chamoy City Limits and Big Daddy's by a longshot and is nowhere as expensive. read more

A pretty good place - not my favorite dessert establishment by any means, but certainly passable for a cheap, quick option. On the downsides, the location sort of sucks - when we were sitting eating we were constantly swarmed by flies while enjoying the traffic of Blanco - and the ordering process is weird - they take your order and then slam a bullet proof glass window shut while they prepare your items. What I do appreciate is the breadth of the menu - this is not your average paleteria and odds are if you can dream it up, it is on the menu at Las Nieves. The cost is also quite nice - we ordered three items for under $5! All in all, a good place, not a great place, but that's okay because I really don't think they are aiming for that. read more

This place has everything you need to cool you down on the hot summer days, snow cones, fruit cups, paletas, Blue Bunny ice cream snacks and natural fruit shaved ice. We bought a lime and a pineapple natural fruit shaved ice, and a strawberry fruit cup with cream. The fruit cup was good, but the shaved ice was great. It was first time I tasted anything like that. I thought it was just shaved ice with syrup, but to my surprised it had real fruit in the ice no syrup. I could not believe how good it tasted; almost like ice cream. If I'm not mistaken I believe this is what people call Italian Ice, but I'm not sure you will have to see for yourself. Las Nieves also sells snacks such as elote en vaso, nachos, and frito pie, but I didn't get a chance to try those maybe next time. The problems I had with Las Nieves was the parking lot was real small, and is not suitable for the amount of customers it gets. Also you order from a window so it's more like an outdoor stand with indoor seating. I also thought the location could be in a better side, but If it was it wouldn't taste as good. I gave Las Nieves 5 stars for my natural fruit shaved ice, and strawberry fruit cup being so good. I know I will hit this place over and over again so I will add it to My Weekly Gigs list later. read more

I've been coming to this place for years. But recently noticed something. They never give a receipt, only if you pay with credit/debit and on those charges they do add tax. While if you pay cash you don't. Well the lady was adding up my charges and she gave me a total that was wrong and one of the owners was telling her to charge. Me a dollar more. Both of them were wrong, it turns out they were charging me two dollars more. Dnt know if they were just adding their own tip. Which I usually leave in their tip jar. But not this time. They shouldn't ve doing that. Just because their about to go to Mexico on their 2 week vacation. Just keep an eye on tour totals. They are over charging. Add your items while you wait. They usually take their time to give you what you've ordered. read more

Wow! Let's just say that even with the awful construction, I'm here on a regular basis. I've tried most things on the menu and everything has been delicious! My ABSOLUTE favorite is the watermelon shaved ice. It's like no other! It's like they froze the melon and used that as the ice. Another thing that I like to get here is the raspa with ice cream. Normally I'm not a huge fan of raspas because of the syrup, but when you add ice cream it's creamy and delicious. Also, try the corn in a cup. Yum! Also, be sure to tip because these guys deserve it! read more

Got the mango shaved ice with lucas on top. It is less like shaved ice and more like a sorbet. It is so smooth and naturally fruity. The chile gives it the right amount of tang and sweetness. Even if you don't like the lucas I would recommend trying it here; it was also my first time trying it. I will for sure be back to try some different flavors. read more

Love love love the fruit shaved ice! The original location on Blanco is not nearly as nice as the newer one on Hildebrand. Very limited parking and even more limited places to sit and enjoy your delicious treats. I would definitely recommend making the drive to the other location if it isn't too far out of the way. read more

My husband loves this place. And I must say I like it too. The nie es are amazing. Whenever we have out of town guest we take them here. The staff were very friendly & working hard on probably one of the busiest nights of the year. The ice cream was great & consistency between homemade ice cream & frozen custard. A little sticky but still with that yummy grainy texture of homemade & you can tell they are using good ingredients too.

I got taro, lavender, and chocolate Oreo, and they were all so delicious and creamy. The portions were generous, and the price felt very fair for what you get. (They have a flight!!!) I also love the local, small, family-owned business vibe. The owners were very friendly, which made the experience even better. My only wish is that they stayed open later on Sundays. Right now, they close at 3 PM, and I would love to be able to stop by for ice cream on my way back to Austin in the late afternoon. I can't wait to go back and try more flavors and next time I will bring a big cooler to bring more back home!
