This was a good find. The ice cream was pretty okay I'd say. Nothing really special kind of mediocre. A bit sweet with the topping but I can say that was my choice. The staff was nice and quick which is more than I could ask for. Despite this the place was a bit dirty inside with sticky tables which was no fun. Some of my favorite ice cream in the city. LOVE their banana cream pie flavor. If you have this flavor it's hard to keep me away. All house made and doesn't taste like syrup. The banana is mellow and creamy. They are generous with the vanilla wafers and I LUH dat. I usually pair it with a scoop of cheesecake, make it EXTRA EXTRA creamy. Who doesn't love the idea of a banana cream cheesecake. They tend to run out of both flavors depending on how late you go but their Brindle flavor is always pretty delicious too. I love thicc ice cream. I'm addicted to Brindles, I'm pretty sure they're the cause of the extra 2lbs I gained at one point. It's one of those sweets you eat once and you start to crave it every single day then you realize you probably shouldn't keep indulging uncontrollably and splurging, so you stop for a little bit. Then you have it once after a long time then the cycle starts all over again. Brindles will get you hooked. What an ice cream lover's dream!! As someone who could eat ice cream for every meal, this was truly wonderful!! This is the fiesta flight which comes with 24 scoops of unique ice cream or gelato flavors. I had gotten this a few months back when they were running an acts of kindness promo where all flights were just $1 each (normal price was $20) and I'm not too sure if this is still part of their menu but I do hope that they bring it back! Solid ice cream, but nothing worth raving about. I've been to Brindles twice now and have deemed it just okay. The place is pretty outdated with poor lighting but has always been clean, and there seems to be only one person working at a time in the afternoons at the very least. This last visit we ordered a Hot Chocolate and a scoop of Burgundy Cherry Ice Cream. The Hot Chocolate wasn't really hot to begin with, more so at room temperature, and you could definitely tell it was water based. The thin layer of whipped cream at the top gave it a slight creaminess that it definitely needed, but once it was gone it was extra lackluster. At the end of the drink, we were left with a coagulated layer of marshmallows at the bottom. The Burgundy Cherry Ice Cream came in a cute plastic cup and was pretty creamy with soft chunks of delicious cherry. From the samples and purchases made on both our visits, we noticed that we could easily taste the same 'base flavor' throughout all the ice creams no matter the flavor. They taste as if a flavor or topping was added to the same dairy heavy base ice cream and wasn't entirely blended so well. The flavors are just a little too muddied for us I guess. Though I wouldn't necessarily recommend Brindles, I can't say I'd never go again. I think there are better ice cream shops to visit instead, but I'd go again if a friend asked me to go. read more

My only complaint is the container we were given didn't come with a lid and since we had so much we didn't finish. I was just mildly inconvenienced having to hold it the journey home but not a huge issue. Now that I know I most likely won't order so much next time. I have loved Brindles since it first opened. The original owners were parents from the school where I taught. They even had a painting that our art teacher painted hanging in there. I don't know why I never wrote a review. On this visit, I had two scoops in a bowl. They were both super creamy and delicious. I can't tell you what flavors they were because I purposely chose two with names that meant nothing to me. One of them was so amazing that I actually went and asked what was in it. I think I was told pineapple, coconut, and mint. The individual flavors were very subtle and created and amazing blended taste. The staff is nice. The place is clean and attractive. One of my favorite things to do with my boyfriend is to drive out to the Hill Country for gelato and coffee. But sometimes I'm not down for an hour wait, so we decided to try something local. Brindles is located in a large shipping center with plenty of parking. There are a few small tables outside and a fair amount of seating inside. The place smells divine, sweet and sugary. There's a huge selection of options from ice creams to cones to toppings. There's a lot. I had Nutella cheesecake; two things I love. My boyfriend had pistachio and peanut butter. I had high hopes for the Nutella. It was good, but after a couple bites, the flavors just melded together and just tasted sweet. The pistachio and peanut butter were also good, but again really sweet. I think it's a good local option, but if rather drive it to the Hill Country for my gelato. read more

I think a true end of an era is coming for Brindles. I learned on Saturday that a new owner has taken over and a number of the OG flavors are being retired including one of my favorites, Sweet Cream ice cream. Additionally, the style inside will be changing. I believe they said it'll become "southern bohemian." I would have given Brindles 5-stars again, yet the news about Sweet Cream bummed me out. Excellent local ice cream parlor! Visited on a hot summer day to try a butter pecan and vanilla sundae. The butter pecan was delish, and the vanilla had real vanilla bean in it, some of the best I've tasted. Marvelous stuff. Only negatives is that they don't have some toppings like butterscotch, they don't have ice water available, and the wait staff's a bit brusque - they disappeared after serving us! It was a very odd experience. Still, doesn't detract from the great ice cream, I'll be stopping in to try a gelato sometime soon. This place scores a 4 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. My husband and I visit San Antonio often and are slowly building a list of our top places to eat. We hadn't found an ice cream shop we really loved until tonight. The funny thing is that we had originally wanted to try a different shop but a glitch with Google maps ended up taking us in the opposite direction. Rather than drive all the way back we decided to give another shop a try and we're so glad we did. Brindle's Awesome Ice Creams is... Well.... Awesome! The owner was working the register and invited us to try all the various flavors.... To be honest every flavor we tried was delicious! We finally decided to get 2 scoops in a waffle cone bowl. My husband got cookies and cream and I got the banana pudding. The waffle bowl was delicious and crispy. The cookies and cream is probably hands down the best cookies and cream I have ever had. Brindle's blends the Oreos into the vanilla ice cream so that every bite is creamy and full of cookie flavor. They then add chunks of oreo cookie to put it over the top. Now, anyone will tell you banana pudding is not something I would normally get. But this ice cream tastes EXACTLY like real banana pudding and has chunks of Nilla wafers too! I had to get it and enjoyed every bite. We learned that the owner just recently took over the business. In fact, he told us Brindle's was a date night favorite when he and his wife first started dating! So cool that he now owns it. He's obviously passionate about ice cream and puts a lot of love into his flavors. We are big fans and will definitely keep coming back! read more

By all means though, this place is gonna be better than anything marble slab has to offer across the street. They have a fairly wide range of flavors. Too bad most of them arent very flavorful. They had an extra special one that they make for this Mexican restaurant, but had too much on hand, even though they normally don't sell it. It was Coconut base, with mango, peppermint, and habanero peppers. It was my favorite one, as well as being the most unique out of everything they sold. The banana pudding was ok, but not very fragrant. It did have a dense creaminess. The giandiua was ok, but it wasn't very hazelnutty. The chocolate wasn't fragrant either. The coffee heath was pretty good. I wish it had more heath bar chunks though. read more

Amazing service! We came in with a group of maybe 13 people and the two girls working at the front were so accommodating by letting us try samples and answering our questions. It was pretty cute inside, and I was surprised at how many flavors they had!! I thought the banana pudding one was an interesting flavor that I haven't seen before, but when I sampled it I found the artificial banana flavor to be a bit overpowering at the beginning. However it had a pretty decent flavor besides that. The burgundy cherry was also pretty good if you like cherry. I don't know the flavor, but my friend had one where it had caramel and bits of possibly honey comb in it? That one was sweet but the honey comb bits had really good flavor and crunch! Either way, there's so many flavors to choose from and you can sample as many as you'd like, so you really can't go wrong here. read more

Between serving us 5 minutes before closing, and Barbie deciding this was five star ice cream, then I will give them a 5, but if it was for me personally, and if it wasn't for the service element, I would probably have gone more with the four star rating. Barbie is already looking forward to our next trip to Brindles, so obviously she was very impressed, and I liked all the flavours too, but not as overwhelmingly much as she did, and she's my Bae, and her opinion matters a little more because she's so pretty.
