My chicken tinga (without crema per my request) was heavenly, plated on a house-made baked tostada. Hubby's birria consomme stew with massive amounts of beef and vegetables (including corn) was exceptional - we requested "small size" and the sizes were still very generous. My son said it best...the food tasted like Abuela was cooking. We came here after doing the Verde Canyon train. This is a family run business and they were so welcoming, service was great. Food was authentic and delicious! I saw an earlier review that they only speak Spanish and it's not true (which shouldn't be an issue even if they did, food is a universal language ). They have menus in English and Spanish and they speak both languages. Anyone would feel welcomed here and more importantly enjoy the food! The Chicharron Gordita was very good. The corn cake was very tasty and the Chicharron was delicious. The Carne Asada Burrito was good. It was filled with Mexican/Spanish rice, beans, onions, and some tasty Asada. The burrito was pretty big and filling. The Asada Fries were good. We got to the restaurant and sat for 10 minutes without being served. We felt that we were in the wrong place soon as we sat down. The menu was only on Spanish. So if you don't understand or can't read it your SOL. I also felt like a monkey or a petting zoo animal since everyone was staring at us. La Salsitas is a very quaint and adorable restaurant. Our server was great and she was very accommodating/thoughtful about our gluten allergy. But OMG the food is awesome!!! Their homemade corn tortillas are the absolute BEST!!!!! My mom loved her chicken tacos and my Camarones diablos blew my mind. Family-owned and run eatery. Normally abuelita is in the kitchen, but she was in Mexico on vacation when we showed up. Server was a granddaughter, and very nice. We ordered the guarahas, birria consomme, and fish tacos. The guarahas was like a tostada. Ample toppings. Very simple, but good. The fish tacos were good, also. Our last evening in the Sedona/Cottonwood area and as usual I'm in charge of finding a place for dinner as I'm the Yelper! We tend to go to at least 4 star ratings and Las Salsitas fit the bill! Owned and operated by a local Mexican family in Cottonwood, Az. After being served chips and salsa I ordered a scrumptious homemade fresh squeezed lime margarita. My entree was a huge quesadilla of the day which had chicken, avocado, cheese and creme fresh. DH had 3 taco's chicken, beef & pork for $1.25 each as it was taco Tuesdays! This place is very reasonably priced and delicious. We chatted quite a bit with the waitress she was such a sweetheart and when we were leaving I took her picture with her family who did all the cooking. She was also quick to restock the basket of chips that we had devoured. I ordered the Veggie Tamale and Lengua Taco. Both were fine but nothing to rave about: tasty and authentic, but could've used more flavor. From the description of the tamale, I thought there would've been a more veggies in it. This is a very cute cozy little restaurant! There's a little bit of everything ranging from breakfast food to shrimp pasta. We stopped by here after a Sedona hike and we did not regret it. Portions are just right. You wont leave stuffed or starved. I got the 3 taco combo plate and the tripa taco was my favorite. Also complimentary chips with an open salsa bar. The only downside I would say is that the prices in the menu doesn't seem accurate to the current price. The 3 taco combo was listed as $11.99 on the menu but I ended up paying $14.99 at checkout. Cute, homey delicious food. Stopped in for breakfast ordered the green chilaquiles and the menudo. Love the fact they use real Mexican cheese ( white farm cheese) NO YELLOW CHEESE HERE with eggs over easy. The sauce was mild but flavorful. I decided to play a bit of Russian roulette and order the menudo because my Sunday wasn't exciting enough; thought what the hell. So happy I did. The menudo was freshly made which is unusual for a tiny town Mexican place to have fresh menudo. It was delicious and then.... to our pleasant surprise homemade tortillas! It was giant, piping hot and beautifully doughy! I was stuffed and left wanting to try the huarache.. next time! I'll make sure I take advantage of the salsa bar I missed. The worst customer service I've ever experienced. I ordered the puerco en salsa rojo. It had no flavor and it had little bones attached to the meat. The worse thing I've ever had. No flavor at all. The waitress who waited on us was rude arrogant towards us but friendly to any other patrons. Even explaining the special of the day. Offering them their beverages immediately where we waited at least 10 minutes. And told them of the variety of salsas at the salsa bar. Which not once she told us. My wife and I finally got around to trying this relatively new Mexican eatery in town. It's located where the old School House restaurant used to be so it's not very big but it is kinda funky and divey in a positive way Cozy and family owned, our server was extremely friendly and attentive. Now for the food. This is not your typical Mexican eatery. This is like visiting your abuela's house for a meal - fresh, homemade - the real deal. They offer several items you won't find at most Mexican diners like Guaraches and Sopes. They have THE best fresh salsa bar of any Mexican place I've eaten at - a wide variety of VERY fresh salsas from mild to fiery hot. Even their pico de gallo is spiked with habaneros. We got a vegan one with mushrooms (no cheese, no crema) and a non vegan one with carne asada, grilled onions, grilled serranos, and cheese. Both amazing. The salsas are sooooo good. I had the Camarones Al Crema(shrimp in spicy chipotle sauce) with rice and beans on corn tortilla. The corn tortillas are made in house and really fresh! Also had a bowl of Menudo soup and it tasted fresh. The salsas are really good and they have a little salsa bar for your chips. This is a really small establishment but I like the cozy feel it's like you are eating at a friends house. They don't have fountain soda but give you cans of soda if you want it.
