I'm extremely disappointed with the Boulder City, Nevada Polar Express train ride. The entire experience felt cheap and poorly thought out. You spend about 30 minutes on a slow train ride looking at nothing but rocks while listening to old, outdated Christmas music that kids today don't even know. Once the train goes halfway up a hill, it just turns around and heads back--nothing magical about it. When you arrive at "Santa's area," it's even worse. The seating is extremely limited and cramped, with nowhere near enough room for all the families they pack onto the ride. You get about 30 minutes to do everything: a small snowball fight, a rushed visit with Santa, and drinking hot cocoa that you're not allowed to take back on the train. So you basically have to gulp it down. And Santa... yikes. He doesn't talk, isn't friendly, and at one point rolled his eyes. There was zero Christmas spirit. Once it was time to reboard, he rushed off like he couldn't get away from the guests fast enough. For $30 per person, this is absolutely not worth it. If you want a true holiday experience, save your money and go somewhere else--like the Grand Canyon Polar Express--which is miles better in every way read more

Alright, this was the highlight of our trip! We did get stuck behind some people who were holding the break the whole time, which kinda made for a joy kill, however, we had kids and needed to make the most of it so we spent time waiting, and then racing and putting the breaks on and honestly I think it's the most fun we ever had together so I highly recommend this also. Make sure you bring a JACKET if you are taking the afternoon slot because it can get COLD! The bonfire at the end is fun too! The guys that work the rail were solid and funny. this was a little find we saw on YouTube and we were excited to book this on our trip to Las Vegas. Anyone of any athleticism can do this. It's fun to be outside and the views are great. The staff is fun and friendly. I would not have minded a little more time at the turn around spot because the made it so inviting, I would have loved to have lunch. It's worth every penny. And the town of Boulder City is cute as well so make time to walk around and maybe even a bite to eat. I hope to bring my family next time. read more

I saw this at the Boulder City RailRoad Museum last year at Christmas but the previous company shut down before I could try it. A new company opened it back up recently and I was excited to try it. With my parents coming into town, my teen and I grabbed a 4 pack. They say to get there on time or they will leave without you. I was incredibly nervous about it and got there really early. It wasn't quite as strict as they say but I still wouldn't chance it. We booked for a 5pm ride and once everyone arrived we got set up to go. I wasn't sure what to expect but I knew the sun would be going down. I came prepared with gloves, beanies, and heavy coats. Glad I did as it does get super chilly. I also brought snacks, water, and a flashlight. The flashlight was great as it can be super dark and it was fun to search for critters while we rode. We didn't see any but still fun. The night sky was beautiful especially as it went from day to night. Your ride is assisted so it's not a difficult ride. You can also use a motor if you would rather, but it's definitely more fun to pedal. My knees can start to hurt on a traditional bike, but I did not have this problem on this ride at all. As you begin ride out, you ride together until you cross the first street and then they start to divide you so you have space between cars. You travel about 4 miles until you get to a rest stop. They say you have about 20 minutes but if you were the last car your time will be less. They have a nice seating area and this is where I would break out hot cocoa. Snacks were a bit overkill unless you have little ones. They turn the seats around and you hop back on but this time it's all motor assisted, so no biking. It's still really cool just to sit and chat with your gang on the way back and admire the beautiful outdoors and mountains. The whole thing was about an hour and a half as advertised and for the price of $170 for four people I would definitely do it again. My teen son and elderly parents in their late 60s enjoyed it as much as I did. it's a great family activity or for a group of friends. There is a small space for you to put a bag per cart. We had one backpack between the four of us. I would probably bring a smaller bag next time if any, but there is a space for it. I highly suggest you give this a try, especially if you're looking for something new and different to experience. read more

We really enjoyed the experience. The electric motors certainly helped out on the way back. Trip was not strenuous at all. One thing they can improve on to make the experience more enjoyable is to place people in order from fastest to slowest or groups of four to two. Both ways of the trip we got stuck behind someone who went by them self (no friends apparently) . Way down wasn't such a big deal as we only had one group behind us and they were slow so we would stop and wait for them to catch up. Way back we had five cars all grouped together because of how slow this person was. read more

My husband and I did this in the fall of 2022 and had a great time. My stepfather is a huge train enthusiast and really wanted to do this - but the previous company had closed down. We were thrilled to see a new company take over and immediately booked for the 4 of us while we were in town. I wish I could say it was worth it, but for the cost, which is similar to what it cost us before - this experience was far far different. First, my stepdad is handicapped and they used to load right there near the parking lot so I didn't think it would be an issue. This is not where they load any longer - even though there is NO signs telling you where to go. No one there to greet you - nothing. It wasn't until my mom found someone way at the other end of the platform that we had any idea. I had to grab his walker from the car and it took us some time to get to the correct area. The email says they will leave at 1:30 promptly and not to be late. So we got there early - 1:00 - as I remember it taking some time to get loaded and go over the procedures before. My stepdad needed the restroom and that was all the way back by the parking lot where we just came from. So we rushed him back and I was so stressed watching the time. Got back to the loading area just before 1:30 - to have nothing happen - with no one saying anything - for the next 15 minutes. There was only 1 guy and he was making sure that you signed the waiver. It was kind of bizarre. My mom was getting impatient and aggravated. The email said THEY MUST DEPART ON THE EXACT TIME. It was cold and no one was there to tell us what the hell we could expect. So very different than the last time. Finally, they started loading people on the cars at 1:45. They were very helpful getting my stepdad on the car and adjusting seats etc. No one offered to take our photo, no one got us excited for the ride, it was all pretty bland compared to the last time. We finally pushed off around 1:55. We were the last car to go - out of 3. Right away, we knew something was wrong. We were peddling like crazy and hardly moving. The pedals on our car were not engaged. It was a quick fix, but with all that time that we sat waiting .... why was this not checked? We get going just to have the 2 cars in front of us at a complete stop. The batteries on both of them apparently were dead. So we had to sit and wait for the batteries to be changed out. This took about 10-15 minutes. Don't know why this wasn't checked ahead of time. Now, I have my mom & stepdad who are 78 and 80 years old. We told them last time it took us 35 minutes to get to the breakpoint. It's now 45 minutes into sitting in the car and we haven't even hit half way yet. Now, the lead car was going so slow, stopping constantly - I don't know why - and there's nothing you can do. You're stuck behind them. So you have to stop. This was not covered as it was when we rode before - you do not stop unless it's an emergency. Be courteous of those behind you. And when we passed a check point where they could've been addressed, they were not. So it took over 1 hour to get to the breakpoint where I have to get an 80 y/o handicapped person up the gravel hill to the porta potty. The weather was bad, he was cold (it was 50 degrees and not sunny) and I feel like it was way too much time out in the cold (more than 2 hours at this point - outside all this time) and there's nothing you can do. I asked someone at the breakpoint if we could be the first car out. My husband and I knew we could pedal hard and get us back fast so my stepdad could get warm. (he had gloves, hat, winter coat, but it was so long already). They let us have the front car, but everyone behind us was connected to us. I have no idea why. I was so bummed. It was very hard for us to enjoy the ride under the circumstances. It was not an inexpensive afternoon for us. The weather was crummy - but by time we knew this, it was too late to cancel and change dates. To me, this was all the more reason to take care of your customers under those circumstances. There should've been someone there to welcome people, maybe have the firepits at the breakpoint actually lit, or have heaters at the waiting platform. I feel like so many things were better before and could've been better now. read more

We went on this twice a couple of years ago. At that time the bikes had seats and everyone had to pedal! Great exercise and beautiful views. We read that the bikes were changed to incorporate electric assist. Unfortunately we have not seen them advertised lately so not sure they are currently running. All staff were volunteers. I wish wish wish they would bring these back! They were so much fun to take our family and visitors to ride and make an afternoon out of visiting all that Boulder City has to offer. My guests loved it! We have great memories. The Railroad museum is right there too. Both times we did the sunset ride. Watching the sun setting in the sky and pedaling on the rails was such a great experience. And then you ride a train car back to the main station. I have been watching for when Boulder City brings back this phenomenal ride! Possibly in the cooler months since it is outdoors. read more

A wonderful experience for families and groups of friends. Riding In 90 degree weather in Las Vegas probably isn't ideal but the breeze made it easy. Will definitely be back probably for an evening ride this time... I have to give props to Jesse! He went above and beyond to make sure the carts were in order setting them up all by himself from the time I arrived to turning them all around on his own for the way back. This guy deserves a huge raise that's fersure to do all the cart work alone in this Vegas heat is no joke, he had a second person there but he didn't seem to care to help him but he was sure to talk trash about him which is unfortunate for how hard he was working. Loved the experience with my family. Took about twenty minutes to go up, took a break while the cars were switched around, and then another twenty minutes to get back. The area up top was nice with picnic tables and lounge chairs. Plus there was a portable toilet just in case anyone needed it. The two gentlemen were lovely and helpful, and one of them kept the jokes coming. The scenery was gorgeous and I would totally come back again. read more

I had done this trip before with the previous company and was not aware of the change. It was night and day, and not in a good way. The first time was well organized, professional, and comfortable. This time it was like three guys just showed up and threw things together. The bikes were metal frames with fishing boat seats bolted on, nothing like before. Completely unorganized and not ready for the departure, bikes had not been moved to the correct track whereas before everything was set with name tags affixed to the bikes so parties knew where to go. We stayed way to long at the midpoint waiting around while the main guy played with his phone. The pedal assistance was helpful and the ride fun, but a huge downgrade in the overall experience. Oh, and asking for tips is pretty tacky. I would not do it again with this company, but maybe without having had the other experience I might feel differently. See for yourself. read more
