Las Villas Akumal is a very nice place, but it lacks what it needs to be able to be called a hotel and is therefore overpriced. They should not be renting the units as if it was a hotel, it shoud be a vacation rental by owners. It does have the hotel style daily cleaning service and the apartments are impeccably clean, but it does not have enough chaises, tables and chairs in the pool, it does not have a bar working 7 days a week at the pool and it does not have a restaurant. What they call "the restaurant" serves a breakfast that leaves a lot to be desired. The bread had been there for three days and was already soggy and full of tiny ants, there was only some unripe melon, and water melon, I had to ask for some papaya and they did have it, but it was brought to me as cold as if just taken out of the fridge, the orange juice tasted like it would start to ferment.
When we went for dinner, my husband asked what fresh fish they had and they said none, all the fish they had was frozen and as such it tasted dry and insipid. The dining area at Villas Akumal is definitely not a restaurant.
Julio at the reception was incredibly helpful and kind, and the housekeeping ladies were also extremely attentive and nice, no complains about their work, the rooms and bathrooms were super clean.
The bar at the pool is improvised and was not even set up on Tuesday. read more
