October 2021 was the time we visited Grand Bahía Príncipe Coba. This was during the time that Covid was still running rampant around the world. We flew to Cancun, and the plane was so empty. Wifey and I each got a roll of seats to ourselves. Anyways, back to the topic on hand. There is a restaurant named Nikkei Mashua located at their hotel prooerty. It is fabulous!! Seriously, we had our best meal of our 4 night trip at this restaurant. Lobby looks terrific. Staff we came across were all helpful and kind. Even got our Covid test done here. We actually stayed at one of their sister properties next door. There was a complimentray shuttle that took us from one property to the other. Very convenient. The sister property was nice, but from the looks of it the Grand Bahía Príncipe Coba may be actually nicer. Will have to spend some nights here in the future to find out. These people are rude, to the point that I do not even want to stay They left me at the airport because they never confirmed the transfer pick up . When I asked them about it they got snippy and rude. Told me it was my fault that I waited to the last minute .. 11 days ago I booked the transfer. I asked 9 time to confirm , I finally chanced them down and they told me that it was too late 3 They messed up and failed to confirm or send me the link to pay the 153 for the round trip transfer. We came here on a day pass to check out the facilities. There were good and bad things to say about this trip so I'm just going to unravel it all here. I will say there are super minor adjustments they could make that would take this from a less than favorable review to a good one. Firstly at the gate you have to give your information like ID and booming number to someone with a clipboard before they open the gate. It would serve them well to hire someone who knows a bit more English to handle this task. I am aware this is Mexico and English is not the first language, but this is a facility that will be bringing in tourists as nearly all of their revenue and I'd be willing to guess most of them do not speak Spanish. After that was handled we got to the front desk where we encountered more of the same. Luckily there was one woman who spoke English very well but unfortunately for her it left her doing the work of 5 people. There were literally 4 people around her not able to properly help anyone that didn't speak fluent Spanish. We headed into the buffet to eat some lunch before checking out the pool area. The buffet is beautiful and it has a lot of options. Unfortunately the food was pretty pedestrian as far as flavor goes. Lots of things for kids and people who just want to get something in their system, but at a place with these prices and this level of "luxury", I expected far better from the food. The pool area is beautiful and there is a nice swim up bar. The temperature of the pool was nearly perfect and my time in the water was very enjoyable. It was so busy that there were zero chairs available but we just set our stuff in the grass and got in the water. The bartender was very busy and our first round of drinks were made by a bar back. They were horrendous. We are in Mexico and I've literally never had a worse margarita anywhere on the planet than that first drink I had. The bartender took care of our drinks moving forward and then they were good. We met a lot of very friendly people here and had a good day. Got to interact with some iguanas and cattamundi as well. I genuinely hope they fix these issues so I could change this rating. This would be somewhere I'd frequent if things were slightly different. Be sure to hop on the shuttle buses off the plane. Scammers and "locals" will trick you into getting to "local" taxis and robbing you of $300+ hotels pretend it didnt happen. Im sure you can figure out the rest. Food was great. Pools wete cleans, room service was nice. The beaches were okay. Id pay for the upgrade so you can eat at all oyher resturants. The best thing about Grand Coba is that it's family friendly and the entertainment crew at this resort really knows how to keep the party spirit alive and well. Unlike the neighboring Bahia Príncipe resorts (Akumal, Tulum and Sian Kan), Grand Coba gives the people a party atmosphere much later into the night - until around midnight - but meanwhile there is no interruption or noise for those who prefer to get to bed earlier. The nightly festivities are far enough away from most villas. Buildings 21/22/23 may hear slightly, so it's best to request other villas if you need total peace and quiet. In that case I'd recommend villas 6/7/8 which are situated the farthest away from the main terrace where the night life goes on. My family wants to visit again this year so we can do it all over again and then some! Beware of the people in the lobby who are peddling the BP vacation club. Although their name tags show the Bahia Príncipe logo, they are not really employed by BP, and they will never admit this but their description of the "vacation club" offering is just a fancy term for timeshare. Don't believe the hype! But if you want a discount to the spa or Lobby Shop, have 90 minutes to spare, and are not easily persuaded by sales tactics, then I highly recommend speaking to one of the reps. I did that to receive $80 in credits for 90 minutes of my time, and thanks to my poker face we didn't go a minute over. I redeemed the gift certificate at the Lobby Shop a couple days later without any issues. Grand Coba is an all-around great resort, and it provided a value that exceeded my expectations although it didn't have room service as does the neighboring luxury resorts. If it wasn't for the fact that my room smelled slightly mildewy I'd rate it 5 stars. Concierge promptly sent up a dehumidifier to my room on day one to take off the edge - which helped to reduce the smell. read more

this hotel is far away from the beach! I asked to switch to beach front Grand Tulum in the same complex. I was told I need to pay $547 usd and I agreed and tried to pay it 12 times and their pay link never worked. I emailed and called them every two hours . my bank confirmed funds are available and no issues from my bank but reservations could not process it! it's a complete nightmare that never got resolved ! I will be sure to spread the word about this horrible chain in Mexico so people don't waste $300 per day there. read more

Out of all the Grand Bahia Principe locations this is the worst and most unprofessional.... and discriminating. Their buffet is very unsatisfying, taste is off, display and decor was very underwhelming. Security staff are unhelpful or welcoming. One was in his phone the whole time, didn't even look his head up as he pointed to front desk. Front desk let 6 groups skip me before acknowledging my presence. By that I asked for a manager, whom was sitting at the front and saw it all. They don't care until people stop booking with them. I would never recommend this hotel. Grand Bahia Principe Tulum (sister property) was much better and accommodating. Their staff booked me for the wrong Japanese restaurant as I do not eat raw fish. This resort/hotel's check in process is awful. We got here at 1:30pm and the line for check in was ridiculously long. Only a few workers doing check in at this time. We go to eat and come back around 2:15 and the line has died down, but there are still only a few workers doing check in. There was a few people in front of us but one dude in particular brought his family of 15, including 4 children in front of us. We had been waiting here for over 30 minutes and there was now a group of about 15 in front of us, with still very little staff. The check out line is also horrific and has not moved at all, with less staff doing check out than check in. It is now 3:15 and we still have not been checked in, this is absolutely ridiculous. We finally got checked in at about 3:30, the girl checking us in did not do a good job at all. We got our key, but she didn't give us a room. We are with family all of us have 3 separate rooms but the key she gave us didn't work for any of the rooms. We went back down to the lobby and she fixed it, but cancelled our other key. read more

We are staying at the Grand Bahia Tulum. We are huge Miami Dolphins fans and realized that there was a sports bar on-site after viewing the on-site map. Luckily, the trolly accommodates, and provides transportation for visitors from all resorts on the property. The staff were extremely nice as we pointed out that the guide that outlined the NFL teams and times playing were incorrect. Initially, the bar wasn't suppose to open until 4pm, however, they opened to accommodate Dolphins and Bills fans. I was very underwhelmed by this resort. There were no upgrades, no room service, you have to pay for your covid test (it was complementary for people who booked prior to august), this resort is not on the beach, and our power went out in our suite for a good four hours. There was no recourse or apology given for the power outage. The restaurants that your allotted during your stay are impossible to get into when trying to make a reservation. So your forced to eat at the buffet restaurant or the snack bar for the duration of your stay. There are also no elevators, and all tile floors. (Careful ladies. Slippery when wet). when we checked in, we had to change rooms because the rooms stench of mildew was so strong it smelled like it was coming out of the vents. The phone in the room wasn't working, so we had to walk to the front desk to request a room change. The bathrooms are all okay. No water closet, and the jets in the bathtub/shower combination was rusted and didn't work. You can clearly tell this resort is due for an upgrade. There was nothing to do on this resort outside go to the pool, which was freezing cold. (It was freezing!!!!) it wasn't enjoyable due to it raining during my entire stay, it was a bit breezy. No hot tub. Just freezing cold pools. The buggy to take you to the beach comes from 7am-3pm. After that no beach access for coba hotel guest. They offer a wrist band where you can visit all 3 connecting resorts for $15 a day. We declined. Food: food and drinks... the drinks were okay. They weren't too bad. The food was also pretty good. I was able to have tacos as much as i wanted so that was great. All in all 3 stars. I don't think i would return here. I wasn't impressed at all. It was also more of an older person resort. I want something with a bit more fun. It really isn't anything to do here. read more

Not bad for the price. The workers are extremely helpful the grounds are incredibly clean. If you are a drinker you are gonna be disappointed it's nothing but bottom shelf cheap nasty liquor/beer so make sure you get booze at the duty free before you get here. The buffet is actually not that bad ! We book ala cart at MASHUA It's a Peruvian/ Japanese fusion. WORST food ever actually made me nauseous and my daughter immediately ran to the bathroom afterwards the food presentation was nice but the food horrible we were better off at buffet. Just the worst!!!! To spend the money you do, you would expect much better. I give them 2 stars because they have Dos Equis on tap. Very few staff understand English. If you cater to English speaking customers you might understand English. The food is barely acceptable. One of our a la cart meals was at the Hibachi. See my photo below. That was my meal other than some rice. When he was cooking. He kept more than half of the vegetables in the bowl and did not cook it. Same for the rice. It was awful. The Mexico restaurant was horrible. The buffet makes Golden Corral a Michelin star experience. The staff is rude. The napkin dispensers are empty most of the time. The bars open later than stated. There are cigarette butts and glasses left over night to the next day left in the numerous stands around the property. The "entertainment" is laughable and not worth the time. Oh, signs. Good luck finding where you need to go. There are very few signs good luck finding what you're looking for. Asking for help doesn't help either. Checkout was as expected horrible. A lady started my checkout then decided to go help another person checking out. I had to start over with the new guy explaining I had already given her my cards. I also tried to pay my $20 bill with a $100 bill. She brings me 50 one dollar bills. Really!?!?!?!? The line was very long checking out. Just horrible. Here are the FACTS. Not my opinion. They give you drinks in tiny plastic cups. The bar lines are ridiculously long. My room had 3 sodas in it the all inclusive refrigerator. My secondary deadbolt did not work. They stop giving towels at the beach very early. The alcohol they serve is all in plastic bottles. My room had giant red ants. There is no lotion q tips or shower cap in the room. They have a blow dryer and the bottles of shampoo they refill. There are leaks through the hotel from the rain. There are very few plugs in the rooms and you will have to charge your phone far from your bedside. The staff is normal. Nothing great nothing bad (ok that's my opinion) There are Mexican agoutis and giant iguanas everywhere. The entire hotel is outdated. And then.......I slipped and fell in throw up because staff put a cone for safety but didn't clean it up. Vomit SPREADS further than the cone. No words. If you're looking for a 5 star resort this isnt the place to go to. This place has the POTENTIAL to be a 4 star resort, and its rated as such in numerous magazines, resort organizers and websites, but due to the service I'd rate it a 3/5. The place is massive, its actually 3 resorts in one (Coba, Tulum and Akumal). There are golf carts that will take you anywhere you want at anytime and they are frequent. You can try to walk/run yourself but this place is huge. The restauraunts are scattered amongst the various resorts. There are beautiful sand beaches, multiple pools, fun activities and the 24/7 pool bar and lobby bars provide great service. The buffets are also full of a huge selection food and drinks. Also, there is a casino, dancing club and at the pool and the main hall stage they do nightly shows. Having all of these amenities, services, and restauraunts would clearly make this a 4/5 resort, but again, 3/5 due to service. There are certain things promised, that were consistently not delivered including; room is supposed to have animal shaped towel figures (only 1 day out of 7 did this happen), room bar fridge was almost never refilled, had to constantly/daily request extra towels when upon reservation and check-in we said we wanted extra, and the 3 ala carte dinners per week. We were told at check in to book right away, which we tried to do but the person booking was not there, due to an excursion the next day we only booked the 3rd day there and somehow the only reservations available started at 9pm for most all of the best ala cartes. We were okay with this as you could just eat at the buffet for early dinner, but still this was disappointing. Also, its very obvious there is a time-share sales attempt - this is at a desk on the way to the buffet everyday, so you'll pass these guys daily. Even if you politely say no, they hassle you every day on your way to and from the restauraunt. Two of our group of 6 did it and they left them alone - somehow they remember out of the hundreds/thousands of guests who has done the time share. Not sure if this is impressive or creepy. read more

Overpriced, poorly maintained facilities with staff that is rude and poorly trained. Save your money and go to another resort. The first impression was that this place gets you in the door and starts trying to squeeze as much cash out of you as possible. There is even a VIP designated area that offers meals and transportation that everyone else can't use. The beach isn't on site and you have to take shuttles to and from to get there. The rooms are non smoking and yet still reek of cigars and smoke. The air conditioning is subpar and can barely keep the room in the high 70's. If you want to spend around 6 to 9 thousand for a family of 4 for around 6 days and feel like you don't have access to a lot of the facilities or direct access to the beach this place is for you. The nighly shows are what you expect from a low class entertainment package run by locals who were forced to join the show or lose their jobs. Another thing is that you can only access their restaurants for half of the nights that you are there. We booked six nights and could only reserve dinner at a restaurant for 3 of the 7 days. read more

I give Grand Bahia Principe Coba a solid 3.75/5.0. In bullet point format, I will tell you why: The good: - The grounds and landscape are absolutely stunning. They definitely keep up the aesthetics. - The Bahia Principe compound is huge, but they provide regular and frequent tram transport between multiple pick up/drop off points throughout. This transportation system is extremely useful, especially if you're inebriated off the all-inclusive alcoholic beverages or if you're inundated with children or baggage. - The a la carte restaurant Mediterraneo was our favorite of all of them, probably because of the appetizer/dessert bar. - The 24-hour snack bar La Casita is pretty good. In my opinion, the food there was better than the food served at the main dining buffet. - The service was great. The staff were very helpful and eager to please--I didn't experience any of the rudeness others have said to have experienced. The Bad: - A lot of bars, activities, and services close too early, like 4 to 5ish. If you're out on excursions all day, that leaves little time to enjoy resort amenities. For example, we've been denied rental of the kayaks or snorkel gear at 4pm because the staff said they would be closing soon. - The on-site stores are overpriced, even with some room for price negotiations. - I was not a fan of the resort's beach. While it is beautiful, and there's enough shore space and chairs for all to enjoy, the real estate for swimming is very limited. Swimmers, snorkelers, and kayakers are only allowed a small area extending maybe 25 feet from the shore. And be careful where you step--those rocks hurt. The Hmmm: - The breakfast-lunch-dinner buffets--while generally okay--are sometimes hit or miss. - A lot of reviewers complain about the animals freely roaming the grounds, and yes there are a lot of them. However, I think they add to the ambience. I wasn't bothered by them. They seemed tame enough to me. - The coffee machine in the main lobby was awesome--when it was operational. Half of our time there it was out of order, so we had to make do with the limited coffee options at the restaurants. - There's a nice little fitness center, however it should be open 24 hours for those of us who might not be able to fit in a workout before 7pm. read more

Service in the hotel is very low. I need to call for the soap and body lotion in the room after they done cleaning the room. The air conditioner has broken on 3rd day and the entry & bathroom floor was in the water. At evening was raining, and we saw so many people have felled down on the slippery stairs or near the pool. My husband slipped off on the wet floor and no one from hotel care about cleaning the spot or put some plastic rugs for entry. read more

The resort contracted booking wit's Cancun adventures for excursions. They are a scam company. - This was not a private tour. This was simply a ferry ride to another island. Considering the total price paid (nearly 1k for 7 people) and the description on their website, I can comfortably say that this was a complete and utter waste of time and money and not what was expected. There were well over 40 people on the boat total. We paid nearly a thousand dollars for a completely unacceptable experience. - the instructor, Marlén, was extremely rude and disrespectful. Our group of 7 was the only group of color (African American) on the boat and we felt intentionally excluded and disrespected. - upon our first stop in the tour (snorkeling), not only did the individuals who participated not receive a life vest (which does not legally comply with the Mexico coastal regulations), but they were also LEFT in the ocean to snorkel without the security rope line as a safety measure. - An individual in our party had a panic attack and actually got injured as a result of being stranded in the ocean. She was told to "deal with it" as if it were a fault of her own. Marlene even slapped her hand down when she raised it for help IN THE OCEAN prior to the boat taking off. For this to be a "prestigious company," this is a complete scam and no one should book tours or excursions through them. Ever. read more

Last time we stayed at Sian Ka'an this time Coba. The resort is very nice and I feel like we got a great value for what we paid. We had some really good experiences while there. First, the entertainment staff at the beach and pool sides were a lot of fun. Jonathan especially as he made our stay memorable and fun. Winning a few bottles of Tequila at the "International Horseshoe competition" only added to the experience. The restaurants and A La Cartes were very good. I would have rated them 5 stars if the buffet had more sea food like shrimp and crab legs. They did have shrimp cocktails but the shrimp were very small. It did seem they were often out of the specific food items I wanted to try. We ate at Le Gourmet, Don Pablo, and Gran Tortuga as of this review. The presentation at Le Gourmet and Don Pablo was great. The service was exceptional but a little slow. Two hours at Don Pablo was way too long. We did have some great servers who went above and beyond to make us Mayan Coffee and a few other fiery drinks. That was fun. The lobster at Le Gourmet was over cooked and my steak at Don Pablo was way too tough for a filet. Gran Tortuga was our favorite of this trip. The Brazilian Beef and New York strip were better than anything we had in the other two "fancier" restaurants. Also Jairo was a a lot of fun at Gran Tortuga. The beach is was very nice, however it was red flags pretty much every day. This meant we couldn't take advantage of any of the water sports. The current was very bad the whole weak. When comparing the beach at Coba to Sian Ka'an there is a huge difference. There's too many rocks at Coba Beach. Walk out by Sian Ka'an and it's nearly perfect. The pools at Coba are probably some of the best of the resorts. If you're looking at spending most of your time at the pool, Coba is probably the place for you. Lots of entertainment and swim up bars. Lastly, there are quite a few children at this resort. It's great for families but if you're looking for some quiet romantic time, stick to Sian Ka'an it's adults only. We look forward to coming back to the Bahia resorts next year. I think we'll go back to the Luxury side though instead and enjoy access to all four resorts. read more

Oh, for the first two days, I thought, "What have I gotten myself into?" The place is so enormous, and the buffet was pretty bland, kids everywhere, not a lot of direction, a vacation (timeshare) presentation that didn't understand our needs, but my husband was really happy, so I began to get into it! Here is what I found out: the grounds are meticulously maintained, you can find the food best for you, you can get totally drunk or stay sober, the activities are not too expensive, you can be anonymous or be out there, there is fabulous entertainment every night! There are excursions to swim with sea turtles and porpoises, or go to ruins or nearby cities. You can take a catamaran sailing lesson. There are parties and games by the pool. There is a kids playground swim park at Coba. Let's address wifi- buy a Mexico cell plan for your stay, Verizon gave me a$2 per day plan and it has mostly worked for text email, Facebook, Yelp, calling my husband. It has not worked to call RCI to confirm travel! Wifi works only at our own hotel lobby I am told. We are always elsewhere on the property. Now, let's address food!: I recommend some a la carts restaurants. We chose 5 plus the up-charge Mexican Fiesta (snacks only) at the Hacienda on Thursday. If you don't want the time commitment for the a la carte restaurants or the expense of those (RCI privilege is free for those), then at least move to some different areas for buffets and snack bar. The Coba buffet is great for kids, but I felt like it was pandemonium in there. The Sian Ka'an has absolutely the best service, but no one under 18 is allowed. The other buffets range in between those 2. Lunch just is not that great any time we have been. Breakfast and dinner have great selection. If you like a salad bar for lunch, you may be quite happy. BIG NOTE: I talked to several people who come back here year after year and they say the food is very safe, water also, and they have never gotten sick. We recommend Tequila a la carte restaurant for dinner, great appetizer and salad bar. Stone soup is an experience if you have never had it. The service is excellent and the mariachis are fun! You can get your pictures taken wearing a big sombrero. If you like chocolate, when you go to the dessert bar, look for this amazing chocolate sauce..put it on ice cream or anything! Wow! Roberto was our excellent waiter! This restaurant is casual, not formal. The rooms: There is a sitting area and a small outside deck, but the rooms are small. We weren't there much, so we didn't care! They provide in room coffee and large bottled waters. The mini fridge has some items, but you have to call if you want it restocked. Our bed, we requested a king bed, was sort of a Frankenstein bed. They pulled two beds together and put an egg crate on top. The first night the sheets were separate because they didn't have the right size. The thing was odd, but we slept okay. They handled it better the subsequent nights. People are very nice and helpful. If you learn a little Spanish, it will go easier. Also, get lots of 20 pesos bills for tips when people do a great job. They are a little over $1, and you can provide multiples when someone really goes out of their way. We only had big bills, so we made some people very happy! Okay, the privilege club timeshare presentation: If you are in the market for a vacation club, they really have some nice offers for gold and platinum. We have more vacations than we can possibly use, and the presentation was wasted on us! Also, delay your presentation a little bit, you will know more and be able to ask good questions. The presenters are nice; they want to make you happy with your choice. We regret that we could not make Alejandro's day, but you gotta want this kind of vacation every year or every other year to make that work! The ability to call and in five minutes get a ride to wherever you want to go was the best advantage of the privilege club. The first time here for any RCI member, privilege club is automatic! The hotel is a bit dated, but the staff were very accommodating. Hugh resort, but not very handicap friendly. My room was on the second floor and there are No elevators anywhere. There were a lot of children just running wild. In my opinion, there should be a section just for families. Kids crying all times of the night made it difficult to get a good night rest. Many restaurants to choose from, but make your reservations upon your arrival or you will be out of luck. The buffet had a wide range of foods to choose from. The staff at Gran(d) Bahia Principe Coba gets my 5 stars. We went there as a "second honeymoon" gift to ourselves 2 years ago. I already had had family that went to this resort a year prior, so I sort of knew the layout and the quality. Let me tell you, this resort went way beyond what I imagined from what my family had told me! We went with a 7 day, all-inclusive package Apple Vacations and lucky for us, Apple Vacations was doing a special event at this resort that week, so we were treated like royalty. I truly wish I could remember the names of all the employees who made our trip so wonderful and give them all the credit, however, it has been 2 years since we've gone & I cannot remember for the life of me. It's a bit difficult to write a review for one particular hotel or lobby area, since Grand Bahia Riviera Maya has 4 different hotels or lobbies on one resort, but I'll attempt my best. I had already heard that the grounds were pretty large, as most resorts in Riviera Maya are. But man, I had no idea just how big this resort was! Coba is just one of 3 hotel lobbies. There is also Tulum and Akumal, as well as the luxury Sian Ka'an suites across the main highway. We stayed in Coba, however, if you stay in one of the 3 non-luxury hotel, you are able to mix and match restaurants in different parts of the resort. We had the chance to go to 4 restaurants throughout our 7 day vacation, although I have heard that the number of vouchers given at check-in varies, sometime it's less, sometimes more. Immediately upon check-in in the Coba lobby, our room wasn't quite ready, but luckily, we were able to grab a quick lunch (and start off our vacations with drinks!) in the adjacent buffet, which was extremely convenient. When we did finally get our room, right in one of the buildings across from the 24 hour snack bar, we set off to explore the grounds. Let me tell you, we didn't know our way around until a few days before our departure! The grounds are HUGE! There are carts that go from each lobby for convenience, so don't think you have to walk everywhere. Our room was nice, everything worked, hot water, air conditioner, etc. The beach is iffy. While the grounds are huge and each respective hotel has their own strip of beach area, some areas are over populated while some are less crowded, however, the beach in those areas is chock full of rocks or sandbags. We mainly stayed at the Akumal beach area, since it seemed quieter and less crowded, so it was much easier to find shade and open beach cots. The food was great. The breakfast buffets were incredible. We tried both Coba buffets and the main one in the great lobby was by far the best. The Akumal breakfast was good, too, but quiet aways away from our room, so we stuck to the main Coba one. Lunch buffet were ok, we weren't blown away, but we could always find something to eat. There are also snack bars by the beaches with burgers, pizza, & nachos, if that's more your preference, but I'm not one to eat junk food on vacation. Dinners were by far the best. The restaurants are fantastic, and most buffets stay open relatively late, so if you get hungry after a nice restaurant dinner, you can always sit down for a quick bite at the buffet. I've heard that the casino in Coba is now open, however, it was being built when we stayed there. They did have great shows available at all the lobbies, like the Michael Jackson impersonator or the circus shows. Wi-Fi is available in all lobbies, free of charge, not in the rooms themselves. It's iffy, however, since everyone is using it. All in all, I really enjoyed our stay and the hospitality provided to us by the staff. I was there on a business trip, so wasn't my pick. Definitely far from a luxury hotel. The food at buffets was plain bad, it was ok but nothing to be excited about. I just went to Grand Bahia resort in Dominican and you cannot even compare. Also the staff speaks no English, looks overworked and exhausted. People rarely tip and they seem very unmotivated. A lot of younger crowds so be ready for noise in the middle of the night. Getting around the resort can be difficult. I asked the from desk for a car to help me get to a different point of the resort ( I was carrying heavy equipment) and was told that everyone is busy, maybe in an hour or so. The room was also OK, a lot of bugs and spiders, which to be was the biggest downside. Never even made it to the beach, seemed far plus there's a lot of pools all around. Other than that it was not bad, the resort looks nice but wouldn't be my pick for a vacation. read more

This was my first trip to Mexico for a wedding. Because of that some of my experience will not be exactly as those who did not purchase a package to haul a large group. I was pleased with the transfer from Cancun airport to the resort. We had a large air conditioned bus to get us there. Beers were served on the bus and I enjoyed my first unique experience where a man was selling ice cream bars on the highway where we had to stop. 12 pesos for one. We arrived and the staff gave us a ticket for our luggage and delivered it to our rooms as we checked in. A tram took me to my room. The grounds were pristine. Various palm trees and other beautiful trees and bushes I've only seen here. The villa I was in was identical to all the rest so it took a couple days of figuring out how to get around. The room was definitely musty due to the warm weather. I opened the door to air it out. It was large, bright and stocked with two beers and lots of water. I settled in and for three days had a hard time finding everything. I was very confused about what was going on for entertainment. The Kukulcato buffet was great. Lots of food and drinks. It felt very strange to walk into a bar or buffet and not have a bill. The staff were all wonderful. My room was always done up so nice. But by day four they stopped restocking my fridge. That sucked as I needed bottled water. I left a tip on the fridge and bed everyday so not sure why the stocking stopped. It was a nice resort but without anything to compare I can only give my opinion based on expectations or things I just didn't like. The toilet dripped consistantly and the bath water was dark yellow. That was not something I enjoyed but maybe that will change when I try another resort. There seemed to be inconsistency in services. I had no problem getting room service but the bride and groom could not. Everyone got chocolate and a bottle of Tequila and I did not. Prices at the lobby store varied for the same product in the same day and were oddly priced. A bag of potato chips came to $11 USD one night while a pack of cigarettes was $8. Honestly it has a nice vibe for singles to family. The staff were always polite to me, the buildings and grounds were beautiful and I would say it was worth the money. read more

I waited years to bring my kids to a nice vacation and I have to say I'm extremely disappointed with this resort. First let me start by saying that it not all inclusive. We paid a lot of money for all inclusive resort and all we got was a nasty buffet. We were not able to get in to any restaurant our entire stay to have a nice dinner with my family. They would send us to a snack bar. All they would tell us is it's all booked. We had to get an expensive taxi to take us and bring us back for our dinners. $200 just for taxi. And another $400 for dinner when we could have had a free meal at the hotel if they would have them available. So your all inclusive is a buffet. We went to the pool 2 times and both times they were out of towels. Again I had to buy towels for my kids. My room was at best like a motel 6. Beds are hard and rooms are not kept up. It was raining during our stay and water was coming down in our bathroom. I called to ask to be moved and they said they we sold out so no other rooms available. If I could give it a minus star I would. $10,000 I spent on this trip and I would have rather just went ti the beach back at home and stayed there. Will never come her again. This place is nice..... but there is no A/C the mini fridge does not work in any rooms (I asked other guests). The workers are very very rude, inconsiderate, and they don't even try to be friendly (horrible customer service) only the ones that drive you around smile and greed you. We stayed at Grand Bahia Principe in Dominican Republic (which it was very nice and lively) so we decided to try them here in Cancun..... what a bad mistake. This place is dead they have no music and the times they do it suck. I wish I can get my money back. Do not get any of the excursion at the hotel I will recommend for you to get a taxi or the little bus get there and pay at the entrance you will save about 75% of the cost they try to charge at the hotel. read more

This is a very big n nice resort. I love seeing animal roam the resort for instance we saw iguana. Sooooo beautiful. Theres a shuttle that will take u to lobbey, hotel, and beach. The buffet is pretty big ,great food. Snack bar is open 24 hr. Only reason why i didnt give it 5 star was because the pool and pool bar closes at 5pm. Who doesnt wanna swim at night in the pool. They serve the same food every day and it repeats lunch dinner and breakfast. As well the pool bar gets filled up quickly and runs out of snacks very early on. The staff seems to restock the snacks sparingly and tends to pretty slow. The room service on the other hands in the rooms are wonderful. The lobby service is also wonderful but the service provided at the beach area is sub-par. read more

DO NOT GO THERE! Seriously - this place is not worth it. We had 2 rooms from 8/16 to 8/26/18 and Boy, did they miss the mark. First set of rooms: A/C did not work - they attempted to fix it, but then it still did not work and on top of that it leaked... all night long... drip, drip, drip. Room was musty and moldy and I got seriously sick. On top of that, we watched someone jump over the bushes into my son's room and attempting to open the patio door. We called that person out and he disappeared in a hurry. We reported this to the hotel, but their interest was nil. My husband's phone was stolen the first night. It just went from bad to worse. Went to the beach for exactly 10-minutes. The stink of the seaweed that was never removed was indescribable. Only a tiny area was cleared and you have 150 people neck on neck. If I go to a beach resort, then at least I want to go to the beach. The only positive side was that Esmeralda in customer service and the ladies at the Bahia Spa. TLDR: Bland food and expensive wifi makes this resort a dud. I was very excited to make a trip out to Mexico with my boyfriend and entire extended family for my cousin's wedding. We stayed at Grand Bahia Principe Coba and many of us traveled from different cities across Canada. We were a little disappointed to find that many of our suites were spread across the resort. This was extra difficult for my mother who had brought my grandmother who needed extra help from family members. It would have been amazing to have our suites all in the same area- especially since we booked as a group! The resort offers an hour of free wifi in the hotel lobby only. This wifi must be used in one sitting. You cannot use 10 minutes here and there and sign in again later. If you want wifi in your room, it's $50 USD for a week. And only good for one device at a time. What a joke! To be honest, I'd much rather they charge everyone extra when booking and offer "free" wifi all over the resort. While a break from social media was nice, being with such a large group we found a lot of difficulties communicating and letting people know where we are or where to meet. The buffet food was bland and the a la carts were impossible to book. The only time they had available was for 10 pm which is almost 5 hours later than I prefer to eat! Yes, I know I'm an old woman! They have a chocolate fountain each night for desert but I was hoping for fruits like strawberries and bananas readily available for dipping. We also found it difficult to get refills on coffee with breakfast. The toilet in our suite didn't work and we had to call for repairs 4 times. The toilet would not flush, even when empty and when you're in Mexico, with your boyfriend, you absolutely want a toilet that works! We finally gave up and had to often open the toilet tank to rechain the handle. Exactly what I was hoping to do on vacation! The beach is so far they offer a shuttle, which is hit or miss if it shows up. They are dealing with serious seaweed issues and some areas of the beach were nicer than others. We were able to enjoy the beach in front of the Tulum part of the resort but the water was murky and had lots of garbage floating around. Lastly, there is no room service and the 24 hour snack bar was closed when we visited. The minibar in the bedrooms only contained a couple beers and a few pops. I was hoping to find some food for a late night snack. The reason I've given this resort any stars is because the staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly. They were always smiling and quite helpful. While there were sometimes language barriers, for the most part the exchanges were very pleasant. Oh and I loved the coaties running around! So cute! Overall, it wasn't necessarily a bad experience. They just missed a lot of the small things that would have made this trip exceptional! There are better resorts out there within the same price range. This is the worst vacation! People lock your belongings even your suitcases! I had the staff break into my luggage 2 times and was missing 2 new shirts. Also the rooms smelled like humidity and the bed sheets felt wet. I had to be calling for toilet paper and clean towels. Spoke to management but nothing was done. We had 2 rooms for 5 people for 7 nights. Not worth the money paid. The buffet style food was very repetitive everyday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The servers are overly worked and unfortunately there are many families that take advantage of them and at the end of their meals, they don't even tip them. Drinks were not great either, they all tasted the same and watered down. To top it off, we chose a beach place for a vacation because we love the beach but because there is soooo much seaweed, the beach waters look like a dirty red color. Not appealing for swimming. The only time we went to the beach they had some staff trying to clean the seaweed, are you kidding me! It was super hot and humid, how could they have staff doing this labor by hand? Just looked super in humane. They say it's been over 7 months that this has been going on. I Do Not Recommend this resort, not worth the Money! The Pueblo Tulum and Cenotes were great and the colectivo was safe to travel in, not need to travel in those over priced taxis.
