Parking was a bit confusing so here's my tip. Park in the back. We parked in the parking garage across the street, which was fine. However, the entrance is in the back of the building. I was just recovering from knee replacement surgery, so knowing this, we would have definitely parked behind the building. Went to dinner here last evening with a group of five work colleagues. This is on the third floor above the LaSalle Grill. Very nice bar area with tables spaced out. Really nice Decour. The staff was great, very helpful and friendly, sort of a small menu, but you can also order off of the Grill menu from downstairs. It is a little more upscale and expensive but the food looked pretty good. Several of us got burger specials which we all enjoyed and we had one member get scallops from downstairs which he thought was really good. The poutine was atrocious. Gelatinous cold gravy over hardened cheese, the French fries were decent, I suppose. The Mac and cheese was ice cold and so disappointing I returned it to the kitchen. No fresh gourmet cheese just a gross roux, for $17 I told them it was not was I was expecting. The $20 burger my friend ordered was dry and cooked well done even though they said it was going to be medium. To top it off the bread was stale and hard. All around highly disappointing. Kind of laughable they expect reservations, the place was entirely dead and empty on a Saturday evening. Never coming back ever again and no one should waste their time here either. We decided to try the Lasalle Kitchen & Tavern for the first time this past weekend. The entrance is in the alley behind the Lasalle Grill and it's on the third floor. We arrived at 4:30 on Saturday-didn't make a reservation because we were arriving so early-and were told the only seating available was at the bar. We enjoy eating at the bar, but if you don't I would encourage making a reservation. We ordered from the South Bend Restaurant Week menu-we had the fried Brussels sprouts and black garlic flatbread as our appetizers, the chicken sandwich as our entrees and the Mexican hot chocolate cheesecake bars as our dessert. We also had their Irish road and island mule cocktails. The food was all delicious and the house made potato chips were the best I've ever had. They had a very good beer selection. The drinks were also excellent, as was our service despite them being very busy. Overall it was a really good dinner and evening out. I think maybe the only place in south bend with a rooftop! The service was meh ..strangely we had several people serving us, and neither of them seemed to know the menu very well or what cut of meat was in the pork "wings". The menu was a bit different (currently Alice in wonderland inspired, so strange indeed) ...we had a rabbit Alfredo and a shepherds pie like thing as well as a Brussels and mushroom appetizer. Usually the food here is great but we ordered the Roasted Poblano and Corn Quesadilla $16 this week and it came out like a .50c cheese quesadilla that my 10 yrs old could make. Extremely poor service. Half of our party was nearly finished eating before the remainders of us finally had our orders taken. Spring rolls came to the table for half of the party with ice inside them and had to be returned. I ordered a single spring roll and coconut shrimp.I finally received my order but it was wrong. Ok first, it is a little hard to find, google gets a little lost, but it is upstairs above the Lasalle grill! Nice range of beers and wines not just IPA's ! Creative menu ( actaully 3) good attentive staff. Good beer selection.. exposed brick walls. Three flights to walk up - what's not to love? Chopped Salad - the dressing had an extra dose of honey making the well-constructed salad too sweet - almost treacly - and over dressed completely. The Cubano was recommended, and I understand why. It's big. It's pretty. It's well-constructed. However, it was not balanced. The slaw and pickles should bring with them a freshness and tang a zest - something to balance the pork, ham, and cheese. This was not accomplished. Much too salty and overly-cumined pork. Seasoning is an important difference between restaurant and home cooks - but this was heavy-handed. The trend toward house-made chip rather than fries is a blessing, especially if the place relies on a simple and balanced approach (see Cisnics in Wilkes Barre PA) to chips. At at the restaurant/bar a couple of weeks ago for restaurant week which offers a few 3 course meals at a special price. I emailed the restaurant at least a week ago with no response so I felt the need to leave my comments here so perhaps they will see them this way. Had the cheeseburger special. Cheeseburger was very tasty, but the "skin still on" french fries were cold and soggy. I left over half of them uneaten. My wife had the quarter dark chicken - she said it was tasty. Water was offered to us at the beginning, but it was lukewarm and no ice offered. Service seemed slow given there were only about 5-6 tables occupied. I also ordered an iced tea to drink. It came with ice in a tall/slender glass - what I call a Tom Collins glass. It tasted fine. I asked for 2 refills during the meal as the glass was not very big and I was thirsty. When the bill came, I saw I had been charged for 3 iced teas. I asked the server if iced tea didn't come with free refills and she replied no, so I had to pay for 3 iced teas. Given the menu seemed overpriced to start with, this just seemed like nickel & diming me. I don't visit here very often and because of this experience, I'll probably visit even less often. Stopped in during a work trip and decided to avoid the crowd and head upstairs for a more casual vibe at LaSalle. Cool bar space with exposed brick and apparently live music some night. It's a little hard finding the restaurant because you either walk though La Salle Grill or walk in through the back. But it's great once you are able to find the place. The bar and grill has a lot of a room and a great place to gather with friends. The service was a little above average but not the greatest. The place was very clean and great environment. They had live music on Friday night. I am not the biggest fan of live music at a restaurant because at times you couldn't hear the conversation at the table but the music was good so it made it tolerable. I ordered the braised beef and potatoes which were good. A little on the sweet side but still good. We also orders the fried pork belly which was real good. For those who are Spanish, basically it's fried chicharon which is one my favorite dishes. The drinks were also really good. I ordered the X marks the spot which is a tequila drink. The drink was fresh and tasty. I was told the restaurant was known for their drinks and I agree. I would come back to this restaurant. The food and the drinks were real good. The best restaurant in South Bend for fine dining hands down. No pretension just a beautiful dining room, great service and a simple but refined and perfectly executed menu. I had the rack of lamb which was perfectly cooked and the ragu it was served with was to my surprise a perfect compliment. My wife had the duck and she is still talking about it. Fun, spunky, hip atmosphere complete with mood lighting and live music! The restaurant is located above Lasalle Grill, the entrance is through a shadowy alley at the back ! Clamber up the stairs to the top and feel free to seat yourself. If there's no small tables left, the larger ones can easily be shared among different parties. There are large windows looking out over downtown south bend, a couple TVs on the walls, and a stage for local musical talent. The service is chill and friendly. The menu is an abbreviated version of the LaSalle Grill downstairs, but same cooks and tasty dishes! It can get a little loud depending on the music, but still great for a laid-back night out! Overall, this is a nice counterpart to the LaSalle Grill downstairs. While I might prefer the classier atmosphere and full menu, the Kitchen & Tavern provides the same great food, and some fun entertainment without the need to dress up! read more

Situated on the third floor above the LaSalle Grill. No particular greeting or welcome. Sat at the bar and bartender barely acknowledged me, asked for my drink order. Not particularly friendly. Me: is the sauce on the lemon pasta heavy? Bartender / server: no, not at all. So I ordered a wedge salad and the lemon pasta. The wedge salad could have been great except that it was completely smothered in dressing. And the dressing was not bad but two or three tablespoons would have sufficed instead of a cup. And the lemon pasta.... the sauce was so heavy, Alfredo like. I found 6 or so pieces of asparagus. The other described vegetables were nonexistent. The bartender did not offer me water, never asked how the food was. Out of nowhere the manager appeared and asked if everything was okay. I told him the pasta story and he agreed the sauce looked unusually heavy. He took it away and offered to bring something else. Ended up with the scallop starter from downstairs. It was fine, not remarkable. The scallops were nicely sauteed but served on top of basically a bunch of corn. Manager comped the pasta and scallop which was a nice gesture. Comfortable atmosphere, nice tall windows, good light, exposed brick. Wish the experience have been more pleasant. At least the manager made an attempt which was appreciated. read more

My only complaint is they make terrible cocktails... totally watered down and the flavors they describe do not come through... and for 10-12 bucks a piece it's worth being upset about. However... good beer and wine selection and tasty food. For 8 dollars their chili is a bit pricey for what it is, but it was yummy. That poutine though... drool. So good. Had a bottle of wine and decided we wanted one for home too... they obliged, no retail discount though. Upon entry, we were greeted with the stuffy, arrogant attitude of the downstairs Lasalle Grill (and even a terribly rude waitress and her misplaced attitude "guiding" us to the stairwell). Once upstairs, we felt the cool, modern atmosphere of LKT and knew we had made the right choice! The food and drink menus were approachable, and still culinarily elevated- as you would hope of any Gastropub worth it's salt. We shared bites of all dishes and left wholly satisfied.
