TL;DR - Amazing experience. If you are in the market for a desk chair in the Bay Area, it is worth…read morethe drive to Rohnert Park for first class service and value. Longer version: I work at least a 40 hour work week from my home office (in addition to other work commitments). So WFH is a very real role that I have equipped the home office for - dual wide-screen monitors, standing desk, studio monitoring for audio, the real deal. What has been lacking is my desk chair: an older tired off-brand that just gets by. A far cry from the Herman Miller Aeron I enjoy at my work office in Kentfield. So when the home chair finally broke (the back height adjustment won't stay), it was time to start internet-shopping. I looked at Branch, Autonomous, Madison Seating, Hinomi...and of course that quickly led to being served up all sorts of brands I'd never heard of. This led to countless YouTube "expert" recommendations and the like. Isn't this the way of all shopping online these days? Finally too confused, I happened by chance to be in Rohnert Park one weekend (my wife and I were going to a concert at Sonoma State), and saw the Office Furniture Interiors & Design store early Sunday evening. They were closed, but I saw through the window they had several of the models that came really highly recommended online...the Haworth Fern, the Steelcase Gesture, the Herman Miller Embody...and several of the Aerons (that I already use at work, see above). I finally called them a few weeks later. Benjamin answered the phone (I think he's the owner) and we had a wonderful phone conversation - intelligent, professional, insightful - and I find out this company provides the chairs for my employer (!), and odds are the Aeron I'm sitting in at work was probably purchased from these guys. The next week I drive all the way up to Rohnert Park and end up being greeted by Benjamin. He then spends the better part of an hour with me, helping locate the best choices for my needs, recommending I stay with particular brands for very sensible reasons, and helps me narrow down my choices. Truth be told, all of these top of the line chairs feel different from each other, significantly so. There really isn't a way to ensure you're making the best choice without spending time sitting in them. Benjamin explained all of the options and adjustments in great detail, for each chair, and then let me spend time sitting and adjusting, rocking and tweaking, and getting used to each. Just the right balance of expert advice, complete product information, and let-you-do-you spend some quality time. I ended up going with a Herman Miller Embody chair (at a great price), and could not be happier. I may sound like a shill, but I know that the chair you spend so many hours working in can change your life - for better or worse. If you're in the market for a WFH chair, really looking to upgrade the "cockpit", you ought to consider making the trek up to Rohnert Park. You won't regret it.

I purchased a $5,000 used privacy booth from these guys, which they were advertising on craigslist. Benjamin, the CEO of the company, assured me in writing that it was used but in "excellent" condition. When they delivered and assembled the unit, I realized that it had been not-so-gently used by its former owner--the floor was dented and marked up, the door was hanging on it crooked, the plexiglass top was scratched, and there was old adhesive all over the outside of it. I felt disappointed about this, and decided to let Benjamin know that he had grossly misrepresented the condition of the unit. Rather than apologizing or doing anything to make it right, Benjamin decided to attempt to gaslight me--telling me that he had sent photos and invited me to the showroom to see the unit. At this point, I was feeling insulted, with a hint of righteous anger, so I called him on the lie--neither of us had any record of photos sent, or invitations to the showroom. Benjamin then copped to it--he DID say it was in excellent condition, he DIDN'T send photos, the unit IS missing the floor mat (which I assume is important to it serving its purpose as a sound-dampening privacy booth), and the plexiglass top IS damaged. He offered to send me a new top and a floor mat. I accepted this solution, because frankly, I was over it, and him. It's been two weeks now, I've followed up several times about the new top and floor mat, and it appears that Benjamin has decided to ghost me. I'm a small business owner who was trying to support another local business, and re-use furniture instead of buying new stuff. Had I known that these guys were willing to lie and lie again just to make an extra buck, I would have just gotten it new. What's the saying? No good deed? Not sure how they got all these amazing reviews on here, but I would not recommend doing business with Benjamin and Office Furniture Interiors & Design.

The one thing I was having no luck with was a new computer table, since I want my own computer now. Most of what I found was either too old-fashioned and heavy, too easily scratched, or didn't have a matching file cabinet that worked with our office. One thing I've learned with Yelp is that the best businesses are not necessarily found on the first pages, so I kept scrolling to page 4, 5, 6, and found an interesting business called The Trope Group. I saw some beautiful furniture on their website, and decided to give them a call. I scheduled a consultation, and Christina and her son Logan came up with a design for a desk and file cabinet that matched my mid-century modern cherry furniture. The nice thing is that the pieces are made with laminate, which is very sturdy and easy to clean (unlike the rest of my pretty but delicate furniture). Still, it's laminate, and I was apprehensive about what it would look like once it arrived. Well, I picked it up today, and was blown away by how beautiful the two pieces are. And chic! The laminate actually looks like cherry wood, and the legs on the table, and the drawer handles on the file cabinet are black and very beautifully designed. Logan had assembled the table for me to look at, and to make sure that the pieces had no damage, then disassembled them for me to take home, saving me a delivery charge. Him and his dad, Cameron (it's a family business), loaded my new furniture into our truck, and off I went, happy as a clam. Oh, and did I mention the price? They weren't the lowest I'd looked at, but were pretty darn close to it, with epic quality (less than $1,000 for both pieces, tax included). Also, unlike most furniture, it didn't take months for the pieces to be manufactured and shipped. I can't look up the dates at the moment because I have a cat on my lap, but it took about a week or two between the order and the pickup. This company is outstanding, and I'm so very glad I found them.

Jon Kennedy was patient on the phone, explained his process and was very clear. Although Apple products are not his personal first choice, his Apple knowledge surprised me. Personally, Jon is a delightful guy, personable, friendly, upbeat and caring. We chatted a lot then discussed his process. Honestly, I was so distracted by my daughter's wedding logistics, that I didn't care how calm and laid-back Jon's approach was. (Normally, I would expect urgency and "yesterday" in my computer concerns.) Jon was communicative and positive, presenting caveats when necessary. I'm impressed that a normally PC user was so incredibly knowledgeable about Macs. Thank you, Jon, for 2 lessons. 1. I have a trusted new vendor. 2. Making me slow down and be patient with you, turned into a non-issue. I had my ancient (but working) Mac Book and access to all necessary files. The Beast is roaring and the wedding was gorgeous!
