I came here after I needed an update for my lasik after 10 years or so. The doctor let me know that because I've already had lasik, I could not do it again, but instead PRK. The process was fairly quick the day of, besides the wait time. One thing I wish was better communicated ahead of time was the post-care instructions. It would have been helpful to get those when you schedule your surgery day. Three weeks later, my eyes have adjusted back to 20/20 vision without the need for glasses again. I have been trying to get scheduled for a retreatment for the lifetime lasik for over 8 months. after constant calls and promises to call back with an appointment, now they say due to staffing issues they have no eta for when they can schedule an appointment. My experience at LasikPlus Vision Center was awesome...I had Leslie do all my initial tests and she was wonderful and answered any questions that I had. Warning: Lengthy review ahead! But I'm hoping it'll help and cover things that may concern you! Wonderful staff! What initially brought me to this location was that my insurance helped cover a percentage of my procedure if I was a candidate. I'm normally more hesitant and careful when it comes to any sort of purchase let alone a procedure for my eyes! I mean I use them every day! But after the initial visit, I felt very comfortable with this place. I even left with an appointment for the Friday of that same week! I really liked Leslie, the coordinator! She answered the many questions I had and even directed questions for the other doctors to answer. So being me, I went home and did even more research wondering if this is truly the place I wanted to get my surgery done. I was hesitant because they didn't give me Dr. Straub but the other doctor, Dr. Amacher because of their schedules. I tried doing some research on this man and even let Leslie, the coordinator know about my feelings. He didn't have as much online about him but didn't have anything bad either. He actually had great ratings while in Texas! Leslie completely understood and made me feel more confident about Dr. Amacher and even had him call me within 5 minutes. I appreciated that. In general, I was still very nervous after he called me but I ultimately went on with my surgery because it was the only day I could come in. The day of surgery, I met Dr. Amacher and he continued to answer any questions I had and ultimately, I felt comfortable with him. The procedure was quick as they said it was going to be and definitely painless. But there was pressure on the eyes. A pressure that was uncomfortable but bearable. But because it was such a quick procedure and I was literally able to see afterwards, I was happy and satisfied. Dr. Kozlowski called me a couple hours later to check up on me, I wasn't awake but he left a voicemail. I appreciated that and today I had my check up, seeing 20/20 but not perfectly, meaning it's kinda shaky not super clear but I was able to read all the letters in that line. They assured me that it'll get better which I'm in high hopes of it happening. I had a vision of -8 and -8.50. Higher prescriptions than most that I have read reviews for so you can see how hesitant I was for this whole procedure! Without glasses, I couldn't even read the biggest E on that eye chart! Haha! Which for them was 20/400! Yes, I was pretty blind! But even though it's only been the day after for me, I highly recommend this place solely for how well they treated their patients and how competent the doctors seem to be. Even though Dr. Amacher hadn't done more surgeries than Dr. Straub, but has still done thousands, I still am satisfied with my experience with him. He talked me through the procedure and I was also given stress balls to use. I'm a pretty high stress person so the balls helped and Dr. Amacher walking me through the steps helped the procedure a lot. LasikPlus, from what I can tell six weeks post-op, has actually fixed my eyesight. It has been quite amazing to wake up in the morning and see without glasses, and I will forever be grateful that this procedure exists. My personal experience was a tough one though, and it's unfortunate that something that has had such a wonderful impact on my life also has such a negative memory attached to it. I trusted the staff of LasikPlus to prepare me for what to expect, but compared to the real experience their explanations seemed like lip service. Enough seemingly small details were overlooked before, during, and after surgery to turn what sounded like an easy enough procedure into one of the most uncomfortable and stressful experiences I've had. If you're reading this because you're considering Lasik, know that there are many places in town to get this procedure done, and you should do your research and find a place who will suit your individual needs. For me, LasikPlus was not a good fit although they really seemed like it during the consultation, this is what it was really like: I understand that everyone reacts differently to any medical procedure out there, and I do consider myself to be one of the small percentage of people whose Lasik experience was abnormally awful. Of all the questions I asked the staff ahead of time, not one answer was provided to me that made this procedure sound anything less than easy. "I have really bad anxiety over this procedure" - "no problem, we will make sure you get a Valium (a short-term anxiety relief drug) beforehand". "My eyes are so sensitive, I'm worried about pain" - "The Valium makes you tired, so you can sleep through the most uncomfortable part when you get home and you'll be able to work the next day". Sounded good to me. I even called a day ahead to make sure they'd have a Valium for me. When I got there they didn't have Valium, they only had Tylenol PM. I've taken Tylenol PM before and it's mild, so how is that supposed to help patients with anxiety get through the procedure? It's a psychological trick. Their treatment room has a glass wall that waiting patients can see through, so by the time you're in there and realize that everyone is looking to you for an example of what to expect, it's too late. Nobody would get in there and want to scare anyone else waiting, and nobody would want to look like they're scared. So that's how you get through it on Tylenol PM. The procedure was more uncomfortable than expected, but I got through it and was relieved to go home and fall asleep. But, that isn't what happened either. Because I was one of those unlucky people who experienced more pain than most, I couldn't fall asleep because my eyes were killing me. The feeling was like an intense sunburn inside my eyes, and it seemed to only be getting worse and worse. I couldn't open my eyes and I was home alone, so I knew finding my phone and calling LasikPlus might be tough but I had to try because to hear them tell me this was normal would have eased my mind tremendously. Unfortunately, we had been asked to put our cell phones into airplane mode while near the laser, and they never reminded us to take them back out of airplane mode on our way out. I couldn't see my phone screen, and I was 100% helpless at that point. The realization that I wasn't able to get help in the amount of unexpected pain I was in, was terrifying! Nobody had ever mentioned this level of pain to me, so I thought something was going really wrong. Your mind goes to all sorts of places in a situation like that. I considered standing on my porch and screaming "help", hoping a neighbor could unlock my phone and call the doctor for me. I was in hell. Everyone I had set up to check on me figured I was asleep because my phone was going straight to voicemail all day. How easy it would have been for the staff of LasikPlus to simply remind patients to go out of airplane mode, or at the very least mention this possibility of intense pain to a patient who tells them of her extreme eye sensitivity. I couldn't work the next day either, but that's not a surprise at this point in the story. The next day I told the staff how awful it had all been. They were pretty indifferent to my concerns, and said they were sorry it had been so scary for me. In fact, they never seemed too concerned about anything after I had signed the paper to give them almost two months of my salary... Not a cent of it went toward any Valium as promised, or any decent pain medication that could have gotten me through the recovery period comfortably. I had to call the day before my month follow-up appointment to make sure they still had me on the schedule because they never bothered to call me or email me a reminder for that either. I am just so unimpressed with their level of care at LasikPlus. I wish I had gone somewhere else. read more

I had LASIK yesterday, woke up this morning and it's a brand new world! I could actually see leaves on the tree outside my bedroom window. It may not sound like much, but after having to wear glasses/contacts for 35 years, it's pretty much a miracle. From beginning to end the all of the staff at Lasik Plus was incredible. [This is a lengthy review, so get ready. But I hope you find it helpful, as I would've liked to have known all this going into it!] I got LASIK yesterday! One day later, my vision is about as good as it was with my glasses/contacts, which is pretty impressive. I had really severe astigmatism, which I thought prevented me from being a LASIK candidate, but I thought wrong. I got consultations (since the procedure is so freaking expensive, consultations are free) at a couple of LASIK providers in Albuquerque over a couple of months. It was a pain to get multiple consults because they are long appointments and typically have to dilate your eyeballs, but it was worth it to feel confident in my final decision. LasikPlus ended up being the most cost-effective based on the discount through my insurance (Davis Vision) and their promotional offer at the time (be sure to ask!) The staff was incredibly welcoming, patient and accommodating. They were very thorough during the pre-op exams and initially I was deemed ineligible due to dry eyes. That was annoying but made me actually respect them, as I didn't feel like they were just saying yes to everyone to make money, even if you're not a good candidate. I stopped taking the medication that was contributing to my eye dryness, and then they did another follow up exam for free. Once I was officially scheduled, I had to wear my glasses for 2 WEEKS before the procedure. That was a long time to be in glasses after wearing my contacts daily. I noticed it mostly when at the gym. Luckily my vision wasn't so terrible that I couldn't see at all without glasses, but it was definitely an annoyance. I was a little panicky at my final check up before the procedure, but the team was very reassuring and happy to address all of my concerns. They also helped me figure out financing, and it breaks down to be much more reasonable if you pay the total off over a year (interest free if you qualify.) I had also allotted a chunk of money through my tax-free FSA account, so that helped ease the severity of my final invoice. Hopefully this procedure is an investment and will save me years of paying for eye exams, contacts and glasses. The procedure itself was a little nerve-racking, but overall was pretty quick. They prescribe a valium to take after you've signed all your consent forms, and that definitely helped me mellow out. They do some numbing drops, make a few marks and off you go. I opted for the nicer laser (my eyeballs are important to me and it is better for people with astigmatism) so my procedure was a two step process. The first laser was the "flap creation" and it was some uncomfortable pressure but no pain. They basically put a suction cup on your eyeball to hold it still and create a flap on your cornea. It was a little freaky that for about 30 seconds, both of your eyes are open but you only see darkness. They give you some stress balls and you better believe I was squeezing those babies. Then they walked me over to laser #2 and that's where the light show started. They literally tape open your eyes (one at a time) and put in a tool to hold your eyeball still. It's a very "A Clockwork Orange" situation. They told me to focus on the green light and then I heard a buzzing/drill like sound (kind of like at the dentist.) There was also an unpleasant burning sort of smell, also like the drill at the dentist. But it only lasted for about 10 seconds, and then you kind of just sit there for a minute to let it all settle. And then you're done! Throw on your super sexy sunglasses and you're outta there. At home, it was uncomfortable as the numbness started to wear off, like having sand in my eyes or if I had my contacts in for too long. You really just want to keep your eyes closed, so it's an ideal nap time. After a couple of hours that feeling subsided and I was able to open my eyes without too much discomfort or light sensitivity. This morning my eyes were way less irritated and my vision was pretty clear. Distance is still a little cloudy, but I passed the driving test. I have some bruising on my eyeballs (which is really freaky) from the suction in laser #1. But they don't look very red/irritated. I have to medicated eyedrops about 4 times a day for the first week, and they say that dryness is expected. Honestly my eyes were often dry/irritated with contacts, so it doesn't feel that different or uncomfortable to me. Vision wise, they warned me that with an astigmatism, it takes longer to heal to be super crisp, but that I can get a "touch up" at any LASIK-Plus center (even if I move) in order to achieve 20/20 vision. They also said that everyone should still expect to need reading glasses around age 40. Until then, I look forward to daily improvements! read more

The staff is so nice, the consult was 90 min the procedure on a Saturday afternoon was the same. Back Sunday morning for a quick recheck and will go back in a month and then three months later. I was referred by friends who had their eyes done there and so happy with the experience. Great financing and low payments. Have no idea why I waited so long to do this. The only thing you should be prepared for is the wait on the day of your appointment to have the procedure done. I was scheduled to come in at 10:45, took a couple of follow up tests which took less that 15 minutes and then sat in a waiting room with 6-7 people who were getting LASIK too. They were all before me making my procedure time at 1230. The wait wasn't bad, I just felt bad for my ride who didn't realize it would take that long. It's been two months since I had LASIK with Dr. Straub at LasikPlus in Albuquerque. I was legally blind prior to having the procedure done. My contact lens strength was -6.0 in both eyes and and had been in glasses since the 2nd grade. I spent a few months researching providers in the area and visited LasikPlus first. The initial visit was a full on comprehensive vision assessment that lasted two hours. The assessment was thorough and the level of care I received from Leslie and Dr. Kozlowski was superb. I left that appointment without looking back and a surgery date 10 days in the future. On the day of the procedure, I arrived at 2:00. Consent form and payment were handled in about 20 minutes, and I was meeting with the surgeon, Dr. Straub, by 2:30. I was a bit leery of the fact that I didn't meet the actual surgeon until the day of the procedure but that was almost immediately remedied after he began talking with me and walking me into the surgery suite. Dr. Straub was phenomenal. He and his assistant Marlena far exceeded my expectations. He clearly means business but has the bedside manner that most physicians lack. He calmly explained every single aspect of the procedure and would explain lights and sounds almost as quickly as I wondered what that light or sound was. The Valium and stress balls to squeeze helped more than I thought they would. There was definitely pressure, sounds, and smells that reminded me that I was having LASIK, but otherwise it was faster and less stressful than waiting in line at Walmart. There was no pain, not even a single prick and my ride and I were on the road at 3:10. It was incredible. At home, it was pretty blurry and I followed the instructions to begin the post-op eye drops, close the blinds, and take a nap. I slept for a few hours and when I awoke my blurry vision had decreased by around 50%, There was still no pain, just some significant dryness. I went to sleep at around 10:00 PM waking at 6:30 for my 7:30 AM follow up visit. The office staff advised me not to drive to this visit, but my ride fell through and I could see well, very well actually. My eyes felt like I had slept in my contacts - dry and a bit hazy but I could see to drive safely. This was confirmed when Dr. Kozloski measured my eyes to be 20/20; improved from 20/400 a mere 18 hours earlier. My eyes were significantly dry for about 6 weeks, only recently stabilizing to where I'm currently using drops 2-3 times per day, and some days only once. My vision is not only "perfect" but the clarity and precision I now have are out of this world. If you qualify to have the newer procedure done, Custom LASIK or wavefront, it's absolutely worth the extra money. These are your eyes after all and I would have paid twice what I did to have the vision I have now. I've lived in the Foothills area for 5 years and am still seeing new features and details of the Sandia mountains that I've never been able to see before. Plus, waking up and not blindly stumbling my way to the coffee maker and the unbelievable satisfaction of throwing away all of my contact lens cases and bottles of solution has been a life changer. If you are considering LASIK, do yourself a favor and call LasikPlus first. You will immediately see that Dr. Straub, Dr. Kozlowski, Leslie and Marlena far exceed expectations, utilizing the latest technology, and providing superior customer service. I went in for a consult in September and ended up booking my lasik for December because I'm a student and I didn't want to have it done when I had assignments that needed worked on. Had I known how easy the recovery would be I would have done it right away!! I came in yesterday morning for a few more tests to make sure I was still a candidate and after the quick 15 minute procedure I could see! Dr. Straub came over when I was filling out the last of the paperwork and pressed on my eyelids and said that's the most I'd feel. He was right, there was definite pressure at the first machine, but after that I didn't feel anything and the lasers were actually cool to see. I went home and slept for five or so hours, woke up feeling like someone had poured sand in my eyes-but eye drops fixed that and I haven't felt that since, I'm crediting that to using the eye drops religiously! One of the best decisions I've made was not only getting Lasik, but coming to Lasikplus. After 26 years of wearing contact lenses or glasses, on my 35th birthday I decided to look into the options of Lasik Surgery. My eye insurance through my employer was partnered with Lasik Plus and thankfully there is an office here in Albuquerque. I scheduled a consultation, and I have to admit, I was very nervous. My eyes are weird, and I was worried I wouldn't be a candidate for the procedure. Upon entering, the office is set up very nice. There is a simple waiting area, and a check in desk with two of the sweetest ladies you'll ever meet. Catherine begin my consultation. She was very patient and ensured I had nothing to worry about. To break the ice a bit, I asked if she was a football fan, and from there I became very comfortable. She talked about the team her family likes, what she experienced when she got her Lasik, and what to expect when and if I get mine. She is one of the sweetest people I've ever met. After she ran all her tests I was visited by Dr. Koslowski. He too was very friendly and made sure all my questions were asked. I talked about my past eye health and history. He was very interested in what i had to say. He made sure that everything was covered, and then told me I was a candidate for Lasik. I was so surprised. Catherine covered the costs with me and offered the different options i had. They offer 0% financing which was the biggest deciding factor. I went home feeling very happy and thinking of what it would be like to never use prescription glasses, or contacts again. I spoke with my wife who supported this change 110%. I called Catherine the next day and scheduled my surgery. The day of the surgery, the other lady, Leslie I think her name was, helped me with my check in. She too was as sweet as Catherine was. It turns out her son plays for El Durado High, who played our high school team in the state championship football game. We talked about how great the game was. After all paperwork was signed, she took me back to meet Dr. Straub. He is quite the character. Very straight forward, and doesn't beat around the bush. He said he'd talk me through the entire procedure and most important, he'd make sure I was comfortable. Sure enough, while I was moving from machine to machine, he said what I'd feel, see and smell. The procedure was over in 15 minutes. The experience at this office was by far the best I've had. Even in my primary Dr. visits, I've never experienced service like I received at Lasik Plus Albuquerque. Great job everyone, and keep up the great work. The staff and the doc's at Lasik Plus were nothing short of amazing. I went in with my husband for a consultation. After a questionnaire, a few eye tests and a discussion with Dr. Kozlowski, we discussed the potential options for sight solutions. For me, it was all good news. I was a candidate for the wavelight procedure to correct my vision. I scheduled my surgery for a few days later. On surgery day, the team checked my eyes once more to make sure all was consistent with my initial screenings. I saw Dr. Kozlowski once more for his final blessings and was sent back on deck. The procedure itself was quick and painless. My thoughts post surgery...I Can See!!! I mentioned before that my husband went in for a consultation as well. He wasn't a candidate for the surgery. His tests and eyes are strong enough based on the assessments however, he has a closely related family history of keratoconus which can be slightly risky even though he doesn't show any signs of having the condition himself. My husband was extremely disappointed. Dr. Straub wasn't available to speak with him but Leslie (Center Director) assured that she would discuss the situation with Dr. Straub and have him call my husband so that he could ask questions and better understand the situation. Dr. Straub agreed 100% with Dr. Kozlowski. My husband wanted to have the procedure done so badly that he was willing to sign a release in order to have the procedure done. Dr. Straub explained that he understands the desire to have the procedure done but he will not do it. Although his risks are extremely low, he would feel this terrible sense of responsibility if he were to eventually develop the eye condition and it was in relation to the procedure that was done. About 2 months ago, my husband and I took drive to Arizona to visit my family. During our visit my husband woke me up one day very early in the morning. He asked me for HELP! I I was sleepy and followed him to the bathroom. He told me he had accidentally poured his contacts in the trash can! When I entered the bathroom he had all the toilet paper spread out! Really!!! We were using our flash lights from our phones to look through all the dirty toilet paper in the trash. Eww! Luckily we found one contact lense. But unfortunately, we couldn't find the other contact lense. He went to the pharmacy and bought an eye patch. He decided to drive back home to Albuquerque that morning. Thanks to God, he made it home safely. If it hadn't been for that experience he probably would still be wearing his contact lenses! Since it was his last pair he decided to make a free Lasik eye exam consultation. We were both wishing he would be a candidate for the Lasik surgery! They informed us he was! We were extremely happy! Thank you so much, Dr. Iwanyk my husband is able to go out of town without hassle and worries. He will be able to see my sign language every morning without having to get closer to him. Hello All, I am a patient of Lasik Plus and wanted to make all future customers aware of some very important information. I had my lasik procedure around eight years ago and due to my lifetime acuity plan felt confident that if ever I had an issue I would be covered. I recently in the past two years was diagnosed with cataracts which the Lasik plus doctor found. At the time he was like oh don't worry about it, get the cataracts fixed and we will correct any other vision issues afterwards no problem. Now my cataracts are traumatic cataracts meaning they are not caused by a health issue or disease, what caused them is unknown. I am now about to have surgery for them and the Lasik plus staff/office does not want to warrantee my eyes and thinks charging me $2000.00 to redo my surgery is some sort of bargain. I recently got my fiancé lasik surgery at LVI (The Laser Vision Institute) in Albuquerque. We decided to go with them because they operate with much more honesty and integrity than what I have experienced at Lasik plus. Now not only are their prices on average about 800 less than Laski plus but I made sure to ask them upfront and should the patient get cataracts or other non disease eye issues the follow up Lasik procedure would be covered in their lifetime acuity plan. You never know what the future will hold for you so please opt to do business with a company who cares more about their patients than a dollar in their pocket. read more
