The type of care and quality experience here was absolutely great. Dr Weltman sent me to a local eye specialist to ensure that I was approved to do Lasik since she did see some abnormalities. This was really reassuring to me. After being cleared by the eye specialist Dr Summerfield, I had an appointment and it was painless. The actual doctor that performed the Lasik was Dr Neil Wills, an accomplished doctor in the Eastern area. He was very informative throughout the process which only really lasted a few mins. Having better eyesight is a wonderful thing, but be very careful with LasikPlus. The staff is very nice, at least leading up to your procedure. After that, I'm not sure you mean much to them. Not a big deal, it's ultimately a transaction. The problem exists in their "Lifetime Guarantee". It's not exactly as cut and dry as they lead you to believe. I had my procedure done 5 years ago. At first, I was ecstatic about how improved my vision was. Unfortunately, it has declined in that time, and I am now back to the point of needing glasses. I contacted LasikPlus about the "Lifetime enhancement" deal, to get it corrected. What they told me is ridiculous, at least to me. In order to "qualify" for the "fix", you have to go to a real eye doctor (because apparently no one there is), and get an eye exam, with both dry AND wet dilation. And yes, YOU pay for this. This doctor must fill out a form (another charge) to acknowledge that either yes/your vision is worse, or no it isn't. Once this is done, you then must have an exam with THEIR office. This is particularly goofy (and redundant) to me, because the reason they send you to an outside doctor is that they are not "actual optometrists". To have this exam you have to pay $99. After these exams, they then have a review panel look over your case (which take 6-8 weeks). So, in the end, you have to pay the optometrist fee, the fee for the optometrist to fill out your form, then the $99 fee for LasikPlus to exam you, only to have a panel of their people decide your case. Just sounds like a big scam to me. Seems like they want your money for the 10 minute procedure, then they're done with you. read more

Here is what you should know. The "lifetime warranty" is a lie. Two years after getting lasik at this facility, my eye sight declined sharply. I was corrected for distance vision and now I can't see at any distance without glasses. I called for a touch up surgery to address this. They said I needed to see my own eye doctor and have him fill out an assessment. If they accepted his assessment, I would have to pay $75 for their own doctor to further determine if I was a candidate. (So you pay them 75 and maybe get help?) My doctor said he had worked in lasik clinic for many years and thought I was an excellent candidate for touch up surgery. But I was denied by lasik with no specifics beyond "at this particular time the benefits of an enhancement/retreatment likely would not outweigh the potential risks of additional laser vision correction surgery." Bottom line -- your eyes might be better for a while but don't count on lasikplus to stand by their "guarantee." Also -- as for the positive reviews here -- be aware that they put a lot of pressure on people to write a review. The office staff was very nice. But I was asked every time I was there if I would leave a review. They said they would give some swag (a t-shirt or something) if I wrote it in the office and showed them that I had completed it. I had eye surgery on November of 2017 with Dr. Lustbader. I was a bit taken aback to see a bunch of people at the office waiting for appointments when I arrived to the facility. I was scared to even have the surgery and would have liked if it was more private. I had no issues with the surgery and went home to recover. The issues began to occur during follow up appointments. There was a lack of follow up and structure for getting accurate information from me. And it seemed to be this way intentionally, so it could be reported that I had 2020 vision. The eye technicians gave me an eye exam, not the eye doctor, Dr. Weltman. This was for all follow ups. Dr. Weltman never gave me an eye exam after surgery. All attempts are made to explain that my vision was not perfect were essentially ignored. When I told the eye technicians that my vision was still blurry in one eye, they brushed it off. I then told Dr. Weltman that my vision was still blurry in one eye and she brushed it off as well. I started to realize I made a mistake going to this facility at that point. There was definitely a shift in how I was treated before and after my eye appointment. I was definitely treated better before and rushed after surgery. I would not recommend. If I had to have eye surgery again, I'd go to a reputable doctors office and ask about after-care. I'm thankful my vision is much better. However, think it could be perfect if the doctor had more time between appointments and with better after care. I wish I remembered one of the front desk young woman's name (young kind Asian woman), she was lovely and did her best to make me feel comfortable. read more

Once I decided I was going through with Lasik, I turned to Yelp to figure out where to go and LasikPlus Rockville got the highest reviews in my area. Fellow Yelpers didn't let me down! I made my initial appointment online and was pleased to get an appointment the next business day. The first appointment took a while because they did a thorough examination including dilating my eyes. I found out I was a candidate for Lasik and was able to schedule my appointment for just a few days later. The staff were very friendly and helpful in answering all my questions. The day of, Dr. Lustbader answered my last minute questions prior to the procedure and the whole thing went smoothly. I didn't have any pain, just very minor discomfort. As long as you are a candidate for LASIK they will treat you well. I was considered a non-candidate for LASIK because of an astigmatism in one of my eyes. The Doctor set me up with an appointment with one of the surgeons a few days later because of a concern that the surgeon does corrections for. I arrived at the set appointment time. Immediately told it was going to be 25-30 minutes as the surgeon was "catching up." 45 minutes later I was led to an exam room. 15 minutes later I left. If I had not set an appointment, I certainly would be understanding. However, one thing was obvious. They do A LOT of surgeries in a day. Again, if you are returning for a follow-up, you are not a priority. In my profession, I can't imagine how he would react if I ignored his appointment for over an hour. read more

It has been a month since I have a LASIK surgery, and I am amazed with the change in my vision. You see... I have a severe hearing loss; I depend far more on my eyes than on my ears to navigate and climb through my life. They are my precious assets. The surgery is like climbing the Mt. Everest. That said, I cannot emphasize enough on how friendly and professional the staffs are. They're surprisingly deft at dealing my concerns and thorough with information and risks that I'm about to face and go through. On the day of surgery, Dr. Lustbader was my surgeon. I had made him aware that I had hearing loss, and then, we went along with information and clarification of what I need to know before I get prepped for the surgery. Regardless of all that, I was fighting the terrible anxieties. Bringing a friend with me had definitely helped, only up until the time when you go in the "room" in which you have the surgery. Through out the surgery, which lasts only 12 minutes, which feels like forever, I was utterly afraid. Dr. Lustbader had been consistently reassuring me with his voice, and it helped. I braced through it all and came out renewed. Fast forwarding a month later to now, I can see all things as they are, crisp and clear. I've worn glasses since childhood- I swear I was born wearing them! As I aged and my prescription got stronger and the glasses got heavier, I started investigating laser vision correction. A friend recommended Lasikplus after she had a great experience almost a decade ago. Dr. Weltman conducted my initial consult and indicated that, while I was likely a candidate for PRK, there were concerns about early signs of glaucoma- something no prior opthalmologist had picked up on. She recommended I have an opthalmologist monitor the condition to ensure it was stabilized. Afyer monitoring for glaucoma for a year and a half, I went back to Lasikplus for a follow-up. I was struggling with my glasses and seeing two different opthalmologists. During the very thorough (and free) follow-up evaluation, Dr. Weltman identified yet another health issue - early onset cataracts! She confirmed the diagnosis on the spot by sending the photo to a cataract specialist. Apparently early-onset cataracts are a risk for certain groups. Dr. Weltman explained what cataracts were and the surgery for fixing them. She jokingly said that if I proceeded with the surgery, I'd probably be the youngest person in the OR by about 50 years! She then set an appointment for the next day to check in with Dr. Lustbader who is not only their Lasik surgeon, but also the head of opthalmology at Georgetown University. Needless to say, no laser vision correction for me! Overall, I was impressed by Dr. Weltman's thoroughness and honesty. She identified issues missed by two opthalmologists and never tried to sell me on a procedure that would not help me. My eye health was her primary concern. I hope that I can eventually get in to see Dr. Lustbader for surgey - I'm on a list for five months out. I only get one set of eyes, so I'll wait for the best. read more

I've been wearing glasses/contacts since I was 4 years old. I finally took the plunge and got laser eye surgery last year, at the age of 24. My corneas were too thin so I got PRK instead of LASIK. The entire process, from my initial visit with Dr. Weltman to my actual surgery, was smooth and easy. Dr. Lustbader was great. Very informative and patient; he answered all of my questions and followed up with me himself the day after. It is amazing to wake up and be able to see! I went from worse than 20/400 to 20/25. My astigmatism was off the charts, so I'm scheduled for an enhancement. This is no problem - my ophthalmologist was impressed that the initial surgery was even able to get me to where it did in the first place. For some reason, it was a bit difficult to reach someone to schedule this enhancement, but Dr. Weltman made sure it was taken care of. 10/10, would recommend! read more

I did PRK on 9/1, and I couldn't be happier! (even though my vision hasn't reached the theoretical best 20/20). My prescription was very very high, and Dr. Weltman recommended PRK and explained everything to me. I am the kind of person who worries a lot, and I sent a couple of emails to her after the first consultation, she was on vacation and transferred my email to Dr. Dahariam who is also very professional and friendly. I literally did my second-time pre-check, LOL (this is unnecessary to be honest if I think back now). On the procedure day, I met Dr. Lustbader and he checked my eyes again before the procedure began. I asked if he sees any possible side-effects may happen, he checked and said no. I was so nervous and even asked a silly question like if I run away from the procedure table can I reschedule? I didn't feel pain during the procedure or right after. I can immediately see and no need to wear glasses. I was surprised that I didn't feel afraid of lights or halo at all (those are very common), the next day my eyes were watering whole day, and that doesn't feel comfortable!! It's been 60 days today since my PRK surgery and I am absolutely in love with my vision. I had been wearing contacts and glasses almost all my life and Lasik has been something I always wanted to do since I knew this procedure existed. I had heard great things from LasikPlus and therefore decided to go in for my free consultation. From the moment I walked in, the staff was friendly and truly treated you like family. She let me know of the two procedures I could get done and I decided to go with PRK, although I was able to get Lasik. I opted for PRK because I didn't want to ever experience my cornea flapping off (although very rare). PRK does have a longer healing process and at times it was frustrating. But ultimately, it was totally worth it. By the end of the first month, my vision was stable and sharp. After years of considering it, this past June I decided I wanted to have LASIK eye surgery. This is a big deal, and I didn't want just anyone touching my eyes, so I read practically every review I could find before finally choosing LasikPlus, and it was a fantastic decision. I went in for a free consultation with Dr. Weltman, who checked my eyes and told me that my corneas were too thin for Lasik, but that I was a great candidate for PRK. PRK is a slightly more involved procedure with a longer recovery time and some discomfort, but don't let that scare you off--it's still totally worth it! The day of my PRK I had another exam and then met Dr. Lustbader, the doctor who would be performing it. He was friendly and professional and reassured me that the recovery would not be long or difficult. The procedure was quick and I didn't feel a thing. The recovery was overall very easy. There was a little bit of discomfort on the second day, like someone was chopping onions in my face, but it didn't last long. I was able to go back to work 5 days later without any problems. I've gone back for two follow ups, and guess what? I now have 20/15 vision! I'm so happy I had PRK and that I had it done here. I have a high prescription (-10.00/-11.00), astigmatism and dry eye, so I wasn't even sure I'd be eligible for any kind of corrective eye surgery. The doctor told me that I wasn't a candidate for LASIK, but that I was a good match for PRK. Instead of creating a corneal flap like in LASIK, PRK removes the outer layer of the cornea and it's discarded before to the laser reshapes the cornea. The layer will eventually grow back itself, but essentially, the healing time is a lot longer. If you are eligible for LASIK, I would definitely do that because healing time is a lot quicker. Went in for my consult in late January, just had my operation Friday, 3/3/17. All Friday and Saturday, I was pretty much fine. Saturday night and Sunday, I was in pain and it felt like there were rocks in my eye. The doctor said this is normal and that with PRK healing, it will get worse before I gets better. By Monday, I was feeling fine, but still had really blurry vision. On Tuesday (today), I was back at work and legal to drive. My eye felt way better after they took the protective contact lens out. My vision is still blurry and will be for a while, but I would say that it's already pretty good. I can watch Netflix fine :D I'm hoping that by next week, I'll be close to 20/20. The operating doctor, Jay Lustbader, called the day after the surgery to follow up, which was very professional and responsible of him. I really appreciated that. I had my surgery almost a month ago and it has been the best decision that I've ever made! I only went to LasikPlus, I had planned on getting consultations at other places but decided not too because I really liked the staff. I don't recall how it was before wearing glasses, but MAN am I glad I decided to finally get it done! There is no better feeling than waking up in the morning (or worse feeling after a drunken night fumbling with my glasses or contacts before bed) and being able to SEE CLEARLY with out glasses or contacts! I HIGHLY recommend the lasikplus Rockville team for the procedure. It's a strait forward process, they take you and check your prescription, dilate your eyes, and check the blood vains behind your eye, then tell you if you are a candidate for either Lasik or PRK. No pointless or multiple trips to the doctors office before or after the procedure! (1 pre op, and 3 follow ups for me) When you do decide to get the procedure done, they see you right before to double check your vision, and then BAM, the surgeon takes you in his office and explains what is going to happen step by step and asks if you have any questions. The procedure takes 15 mins tops depending on the type of procedure, and the surgeon personally calls the day after to check on you, EVEN ON A SUNDAY AFTER MY SATURDAY PROCEDURE! I was a candidate for Lasik (one day recovery) but I chose to get PRK (longer recovery) because it was less evasive. They explain it all to you before your procedure, my vision was 20/15 only a month after my PRK! One of my best friends had Lasik earlier this year with Dr. Lustbader and Dr. Weltman and nothing but positive things to say. Having gotten both of my eyes lasered, from the initial phone call to follow up visits were nothing but a delightful buffet of professionalism. The staff greet you at the front desk, people are smiling, there's a delicious coffee machine and I even walked out with a beer koozie. The first evaluation was thorough and incredibly informative. Looking back, nothing about the surgery itself was a surprise because they walk you through what's going to happen and then give you literature about what to expect. Eye vs. Laser -- Surgery Day: I walked in at 8am and was back home in my bed at 9:30am. A fantastic experience all around. After 25 years, I would've put up with a lot to rid myself of contact lenses and glasses. Fortunately, all it took was a boat load of money and a few second of discomfort. The good doctors and machines at LasikPlus make up for its many problems, but the problems are a headache you should be ready for. It all starts with a phone call to schedule LasikPlus's free consultation (it looks like you can now schedule a consultation on LasikPlus.com too). I am a comparison shopper, so I made a point of comparing prices before even bothering to schedule a consultation. LasikPlus quoted me a very reasonable price, which wasn't technically lying, but it was awfully close. They told me the procedure would cost something under $2,000, but I could tell they were holding back information from me and weren't giving clear answers. They said that everybody's eyes are different and that can affect the price, which is true, but they didn't tell me that the prices fit nicely into 6 boxes on a little sheet of paper, which they could easily have shared with me. In reality, you're going to pay closer to $3,000 or more for your LasikPlus laser eye surgery. My consultation went well and LasikPlus approved me for laser eye surgery. The only problem was that I have big pupils, so I had to get Custom Lasik. That bumped the price closer to $3,500. I opted to go with the traditional eye cutter, as opposed to the bladeless IntraLase. LasikPlus's IntraLase adds $300 per eye to the cost so you can have a laser cut your eye flap instead of a blade, but IntraLase didn't look any better to me. Either way your eye is getting cut and it's not pretty. It sounded like a $600 "I'm being a baby" tax, so I passed. (NThese prices are from 2009) Scheduling my surgery with LasikPlus was a huge pain. I tried to plan ahead, but they didn't plan their schedule until very late. They couldn't tell me when they would begin scheduling, so I had to keep calling to make sure I got the date I wanted. One plus though, LasikPlus has offices all over the country, so you can get your consultation, your surgery, or any follow ups no matter where you are. I was nervous for surgery day, but the LasikPlus employees seemed as if they did tons of surgeries each day and it was no big deal. While the LasikPlus administrative staff was horrible, the doctors were phenomenal. Make sure you take down your doctor's number so you can contact him or her if you have any questions. The main numbers won't be helpful, but the LasikPlus doctors will be. The doctor answered all of my questions and allayed all of my concerns. He were also very calming, which was helpful. This is rare, but the machine actually popped a blood vessel when they were doing my second eye, which spewed a lot of blood. I thought the second eye took a bit longer, but that's all I noticed. My poor ex-girlfriend watched the surgery on the TV screens that LasikPlus has for friends, family members, and gawkers and was mortified. The surgery looks much worse on the screen though, so I would advise that you don't even look at it until after your surgery. Despite the mishap, my LasikPlus laser eye surgery turned out well in the end. I had my surgery on Monday and took the week off from work, but there's really nothing stopping you from going back to work on Thursday. The first 48 hours are a little tough, your eyes burn and you should keep them closed most of the time, but after that you're pretty much good to go. LasikPlus gives you unlimited review checkups for one year after your surgery, which is nice. They also offer free enhancements for life, but you have to get yearly checkups with your own eye doctor to be eligible for free enhancements. Enough time has passed since I received the bad news that I am finally able to write this review. Yes, the grieving period is over. I'm ready to speak out. Ladies and gentlemen, I am one of the few, the sad, the unfortunate to be "not a candidate" for this panacea of our time. After one appointment, and a follow-up appointment, I sadly report to you that my corneas SUCK. Who knew, among all of my body parts I have obsessed over and spent time caring for, that the ones that would betray me are my CORNEAS? But that has nothing to do with the quality of this place. LasikPlus, though you may be intimidated by their nationwide presence and well-oiled-machineness, is a pretty awesome place to be. Everything about it reassures you that they know what they're doing. The waiting room is well-lit, there's a Keurig-y machine, you never have to wait long to be seen, and there are people every step of the way to tell you what's going on and what's happening next. They really take care of you. After my first appointment after which they usually know if you're okay to go on with the surgery or not, they weren't sure about me. They told me to make another appointment when The Man, Dr. Lustbader himself, was going to be there so that he could look at my stuff and give me a better assessment. I came back, they did all the tests on me again, the lady showed Dr. Lustbader my results, she came back and then broke the news. I was devastated, but at the same time I really appreciated the whole process because they weren't just trying to sell me on the surgery. Unfortunately I never got to talk to Dr. Lustbader myself, but he was pretty busy with surgeries. (I think how it works is that the staff screens all of the people, and then Dr. Lustbader comes in only once in a while to do his magic.) I just had my LASIK procedure yesterday. I went for my follow-up this morning and have 20/15 vision now! The staff and doctors (Dr. Lustbader and Dr. Weltman) were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They answered all my questions and made sure I was comfortable during every step of the process. They really care about their patients. I am also very happy with the honesty and professionalism I encountered. Dr. Weltman and the office staff are great and are the reason the review is this high. The evaluation, scheduling, follow-ups, and communication have all been great. They also seemed to be the best option as far as ensuring the best technology is used while getting a good price. The procedure itself definitely wasn't pleasant, but I never really expected having a laser cut my eyeball open while I'm awake to be very fun. I did feel like one of my eyes was not properly numbed, though, as it actually hurt a bit during surgery and the other eye just felt uncomfortable. Everyone's eyes are different, but my results are good so far (not perfect, but hopefully getting there as my dry eye goes away). My biggest complaint is the lack of contact with the surgeon, Dr. Lustbader. I saw him for maybe 1 minute (tops) immediately before surgery and maybe 30 seconds immediately afterwards. read more
