I would recommend this office if you have absolutely nothing else to do. My appointment was at 10:45am and I was called back to see the doctor at 12:11pm. Or so I thought. The doctor came in at 12:21pm, looked at my eyes and the appointment concluded at 12:24pm. Other patients were complaining in the waiting room while the staff sat in their corner laughing. I would like to give them a good review as my doctor Melamud is quite good and provides good information, explains everything and is caring. However I amgiving them a 2 for several reasons. 1) THe wait time is horendous. They clearly overbook. It is not unususal for me to be there for 3 hours; 2) Billing: I have Medicare part A but not B as I have excellent coverage from my former employer. I have told RGW as the desk and billing this over 25 times and they continue to send me bills saying that Medicare will not cover this. Akthough they apologize and promise it will not happen again, it continues to happpen. Furthermore my attemots to contact billing has been awful. read more

I have been a patient of RGW for over two years. It does not matter what time of day I make an appointment, I never get to see the doctor within the first hour. On a good day, after check in, sit in the waiting rom for 20 minutes or so. then get called in to do some basic vision tests and pressure checks. Then go sit in the waiting room for 15-20 minutes before being called for some imaging. The go sit in the waiting room for another 15-20 minutes before getting called to the exam room. Then sit there for another 0 minutes before finally getting to see the doctor. It is so bad that recently, they put a sign in their lobby saying that appointments can take about 2 hours. This is extremely unprofessional. I had an appointment scheduled for 8:30 this morning. When I got there, they told me my appointment was cancelled. They tried to tell me the called me a few days ago. I normally receive text messages and emails from them. Not sure what really happened, but after wasting an hour of driving time for the round trip, and the problems they have with keeping timely appointments, I will never go back to RGW. read more

In all the years I have gone to doctors I have never had a worse experience than at this practice (the Fairfax office). I started with them in January 2024 and never got a bill. Then in November I got a threatening call from the office manager saying if I didn't pay $758.85 they would take the case to a collection agency. I was shocked. They have an arrangement with a non-profit called Good Days that picks up the most expensive part of the bill, but in my case the checkout clerk never processed the insurance properly and the practice wants me to pay for her mistake. That clerk either got fired or left on her own. The one time I got an online bill, again in November, for $139 I tried to pay it but the code wouldn't allow me to do it. There's something terribly wrong with the office staff. They care nothing for the patients. Even my doctor is not willing to help. read more

These people waited 9 months to inform patients of a data breach. Apparently, they were aware of the hack in March 23 but waited until December 23 to send out letters. In between the event and the delayed disclosure, my identity was stolen resulting in several financial accounts set up in my name. They had my name, address, phone#, email address and SS#. I understand that businesses can be hacked even with proper security measures in place but it's completely unacceptable to wait 9 whole months to notify patients. read more

That being said, from the moment I entered the Willow Corporate Drive location, I was warmly greeted by the Front Office Medical Staff upon checking in to include verifying my health insurance, confirming my health information, etc. This initial interface resulted in a positive front desk experience. This professional and congenial tone was unwavering throughout my entire interaction during the course of my appointment with Dr. Do, as well as his medical support team (to include, but not limited to the Ophthalmology Technicians/Assistants, Patient Coordinators, exist billing staff and Dr. Do's Fellow) all presenting themselves in a positive, professional manner. I was very appreciative of the well-equipped facility, the user-friendly on-line patient access portal, the cleanliness of the waiting rooms and examination rooms, as this entire experience further instilled a sense of confidence in this practice. Dr. Do is friendly while maintaining an extremely professional, knowledgeable, sincere and courteous demeanor. Dr. Do took the time to thoroughly discuss my condition in a clear and concise manner, and all treatment options available particular to my condition and overall health. Moreover, further instilling a complete sense of confidence in his subject matter expert knowledge and abilities. I just experienced the most horrible customer service. You cannot call anybody to ask a question about a fraud case that they had discovered in March 2023 regarding hacking of their systems. It is absurd that all managers hide and do not want to talk to a victim of they callousness. They are as bad as the ones who hacked their systems. How can one trust the health of one's eyes to a group that does not have the decency or courage to someone who has been victimized by them? Records...what records. I have been going to the Retina Group for years and have needed multiple procedures. Went in yesterday and I was a "NEW PATIENT" - no records. My previous doctor (now retired) had prepared very detailed sketches clearly marking each area on my retina that had required intervention. All gone now...no big deal...right? I was petrified to be examined & have my eyes dialated. The very first person I went back to a room with was my lengthiest experience with anyone at the practice, including the Doctor. This young lady was so kind, calm, reassuring & incredibly perceptive & a problem solver. She numbed my eyes and was able to give me a half drop of dialation. Who knew?! I went from possibly having the worst experience & a possible ER situation to being able to get through the remainder of my day without complications. The doctor was very thorough & assured me for now that I had nothing wrong. The only negative I want to address is why I could not also have it verified or not if I had glaucoma or any other eye problem & that I had to go to another doctor at another practice on another day off from work. Are they not all opthamologists? It is difficult to take time from work, not to mention coordinating a driver for such visits. It would patient friendly to have under one roof. read more

My mother-in-law and I are seen at the RGW and have both been pleased with the quality of care. Each of our doctors inspire trust and the technicians are knowledgeable and very patient with my MIL. I can't even begin to say how horrible the office staff is. It took a good 20 min to even MAKE an appointment. The woman who answered the phone seemed to have no idea how Tricare worked, and had to put me on hold several times. I don't expect everyone to know how every insurance company works, but it was frustrating. Additionally, she was one of those people that no matter how slowly you spoke, she needed you to repeat everything you said for clarity, and seemed to have made a transcription error in recording your phone number, date of birth or address. She was VERY clear that I had to show up 15 min early to fill out paperwork and that the forms were NOT available online. The day of my appointment, I had to wait until 30 min PAST my appointment time to even be GIVEN the forms to fill out, let alone be given them at check-in or fifteen min early (which I had arrived). My appointment time was a pipe dream. As far as all those phone numbers and the address the woman who answers the phone recorded? Nope. They had no record of any of it. A different receptionist needed to ask me all of it again, as she had no idea what any of it was. The waiting room, both of them, were packed, and at well over an hour past my appointment time I have yet to be seen by a tech or a doctor. I may have to move in and live here. One of the worst parts of the disorganization that I see is that the receptionists continue to hand out forms and paperwork to people without pens, and people continue to ask "do you have a pen?" The receptionists respond, "no, but you can ask up at the desk." If they know people will need pens, why not bring a pen!?!? There is absolutely no thought that goes into streamlining this process. This is staggeringly poor planning and in a time of pandemic has resulted in a waiting room, nay two waiting rooms with about 70 people in it. I can't understand it. The clerk I asked said that at the first of the year, everyone has to fill out paperwork, so it's not always like this. But, the first of the year happens EVERY year, so you should be able to plan for this. I would absolutely not recommend this office to anyone who values their time. Or, if you absolutely must come here, as I did (a specialist here was recommended to me for a specific problem), make sure you bring a very long book and a lot of patience read more

I see Dr. Bryant in the Eastern Market/Capital Hill office. While she seems very good and knowledgeable the office is like an assembly line, always overbooked leaving one very little time to actually converse with the doctor, or have questions answered. In addition overbooking means there is often a long waiting time. Although they claim to follow best Covid practices, there are generally 8-10 people in the small waiting room, so it is virtually impossible to have social distancing. Last time there was even the bonus of 3 additional workman in the front the whole time where patients were waiting. I love the doctor that I saw in the Sterling office. He is extremely thorough and I would love to continue seeing him. BUT, having to deal with having my bill paid through my flexfund account and then spending months proving that the bill has been paid (they admitted they have a new billing system, that 6 months later, still doesn't have their act together), is just not even worth it. I will be asking my opthamalogist for another referral, because I'm extremely tired of dealing with billing part of it and having to get cancelled checks to prove the bill was paid AND then still getting late notices. read more

This review doesn't speak to the expertise of the doctor I saw, who I think is awesome. Instead, this review speaks to the practice itself and how they try to herd in as many patients as possible, making wait times ridiculous. Briefly: my appointment time was 10:30. I arrived 10 minutes before that. At 11, I saw the assistant, who took my details and dilated my eyes. At NOON, I finally saw the doctor (for all of 10 minutes.) I took time out of my work schedule to go to this office. I had to work well into the evening to make up for the time I lost sitting in this office. It should not take 30 minutes before your initial time with a tech. It does not take one hour for eyes to dilate. This is all due to the way the practice runs. They don't care how much of your time they take. They are more interested in maximizing profits, so they herd lots of people, first into the initial waiting room and then, into the second waiting room. I understand some degree of lateness, but this was ridiculous. read more

I had an appointment with Dr. Berinstein at 10:15. I completed all the paperwork online, the day before, in order to save waiting time. I left the practice at NOON! I waited about 30 minutes to be called in. Spent about 15 minutes with an admitting person to respond to some basic questions, measure eye pressure and administer dilating drops. Spent another 30 minutes waiting. Has my retina scanned for about 5 minutes. Was taken to the doctor's waiting room. Waited another 20 minutes. Doctor Berinstein walked in and spent about 8 minutes with me. Didn't say anything or mention the retina scan. Suggested I double the drop dosage given to me by another doctor and that's it. The treatment team is well trained and professional. I had an excellent surgery with Dr.Kasi . The billing department is the worst.I had payment plan with them but terminated the plan without any notice and sent me to collections. I have frequent visits with Dr Osman and currently with Dr. Kasi so L set up a plan with them.When l disputed with the collection agency, they responded that the bill in collections is from other periods aside the payment plan.So they want me to set a plan every time l have a visit which is ridiculous. I am planning to cancel all my appointments because l can deal with their billing department. They don't have time to listen to your needs and have very poor communication. I can just deal with them, very poor indeed. I will deal with the collections that I what they intend doing. If my payment plan is not enough then you should contact me for another plan not to send me to collections whiles l have payment plan.Horrible billing department read more

Do not go to this group unless you don't care about your health. They basically ruined my eye. Doctors were constantly quitting and changing. I had a retina surgery here to get better vision. Now I can't read a paragraph without mixing up words from different lines. They did not admit the surgery went wrong. I went to see different doctor and he said, surgery definitely went wrong. There is no cure or fix for my eye unless there is a invention of stem cell surgery. They usually make me wait one hour to 2 hours with an appointment and their excuse is always. There was an emergency situation. When I was barely waking up from the surgery. I heard the doctor and nurses were making fun of my face with tapes and they thought I was still in sleep, he pulled off the tape from my face so hard, my skin was red after. I wish I knew a excellent lawyer who specialize to sue this facility and the doctor so they wouldn't do that to other patients. My life is not the same after the surgery. I used to read books and I have to drive a lot but it's restricting all that. Most of all, I can barely do any computer work without straining my eyes or getting nauseous. Long waits as others have complained about too however it's the fraudulent billing practices & the PIA woman full of lies that handles billing. So far she has acknowledge erroneously charging our FSA card about $500 back in May & has agreed we should get a refund. It is now October & they still stone wall refund attempts, this office has even stone walled our insurance health advocate who has called into their office to clarify & seek further clarification from them. They tried to say it's a "Credit to our account" LMAO as if I'd ever go back to see them? HA! Just cough up the money & admit you're liars! Ok this is unbelievable...for the second time my daughter took her son to have an issue with his eye checked out. He was supposed to get dye injusted into a vein. First time they said he was not hydrated enough and could not get a vein. This time...two weeks later and a whole bottle of water they still cannot hit a vein!? Really!? WTH... I told my daughter to take him somewhere else this is FRIGGN unbelievable! How on Earth can you be in the medical business and have not one person able to hit a vein! read more

If you like assembly line robotic medicine then this is the practice for you. Each patient visit is about 2 hours, all but 3 minutes is waiting and being put through "routine", repetitive, and unnecessary (billed) tests that most insurance companies will cover. Each visit the patient is confronted about the balance on their account, even if they were there a week before and the insurance has not yet been billed or a statement sent to you. There is no answer as to how much the charges will be due for the current visit when completed, but payment (at least in part) is expected when leaving the appointment. This is not about the patient or patient care but about the money. My last office visit I found that my insurance was double billed for a number of procedures, and when the insurance refused to pay the office "Drone" at the front desk only knew that my account had a balance and wanted a payment even when they were due a payment because of their mistake, nothing like being confronted when you walk into the door for the appointment with no advanced notice that a bill was due. This company in the past has not mailed any invoice or statement of account for periods over a year, instead waiting to "Ambush" an unsuspecting/unknowing patient when they arrived. I have seen 2 doctors with this company. I have had to change doctors because of the lack of diagnosis and action from the 1st, and the 2nd because the in office treatments caused repeatedly trips to the hospital to correct the problems from the office visit. My vision is now worse than when I first went to this company, definitely not experts as they profess. They like to profess that they are experts, but I have had to seek other doctors on numerous occasions to correct their mistakes in judgement and performance. read more

Had an appointment with Dr. Garfinkle. Took my mother and since we didn't have insurance, we were asked to pay $300 deposit, which we did. We were told that after seeing the doctor, we may either get some refund or we may have to pay additional amount based on evaluation. My mom is suffering from AMD and is being treated by another doctor (overseas). She is in States for a few days and we just wanted to get a second opinion to ensure everything is on track - hence the reasoning for self pay. It took roughly two hours from walking into the clinic until the end. As stated by others, we had our initial evaluation, then a retina scan, and finally spent a few minutes with Dr. Gardinkle. My first impression about Dr - he seemed friendly and came across really well. Since we were there for a second opinion, we took our time to give him history about the patient, which I thought was important, but Dr Garfinkle seemed to be a in a rush to see his next patient. He was impatient and seemed he wanted to walk out of the room after a fairly quick diagnosis. Some of his responses were quiet awful. I could feel he wanted us to leave. What was most hurtful, he said that patient's vision for one eye will not improve and possibly will won't be able see and suggested we don't waste any more money on the treatment. In such cases, Doctors need to realize and feel what the patient has to go through and should show some care instead of rushing to their next patient to make some extra money. I wouldn't recommend this practice to anyone. They are just a bunch of greedy people hungry for money and not really care about someone's emotions. He should have taken time a few extra minutes to make us all comfortable. Upon checkout, no one gave a breakdown of our initial $3000 deposit and said we are good to go. read more

I stopped going here and went to a real doctor after dozens of cattle-drive type appointments. Every terrifying appoibtmeny was filled with kernels of hope such as: "You're living on the edge my dear" and "I don't know if even I can save your vision." Both of those are actual quotes from doctor Deegan at the RGW. No actual advice or anything resembling a solution was ever given. I was told to "wait it out" when I lost vision in my right eye and they would only operate as a "last resort" measue. When the issues started in my left eye and after meeting with Dr. Deegan I was offered no hope and told to make another no progress appointment in 6 weeks I left and never went back. The new docotr im seeing performsd surgery in both eyes immediately. However, because I was blind in my right eye for so long my vision is likely to return to 20/70 at best. I also just learned from my latest glasses appointment that because of the extreme lasering Deegan did my left eye is likely to not improve above 20/50. I'm 27 years old. I know I'm not a doctor but I really feel like my vision could have been saved if I didn't spend so much time at the RGW. :/ I think those with quick fix problens will be fine here but anyone needing personal care or that has chronic issues should stay away. your eyes are very important and you should go somewhere they are treated that way. read more

I bring my mother here for macular degeneration treatment. She has been seeing Dr. Daniel Berenstein. He has been giving her injections in her eye to halt the progression of the disease. So far it has been working. Her vision in that eye is better. I have no problems with this office either making appointments, canceling or waiting in the waiting room. I would recommend them. My husband and I just returned from an appointment with Dr. Murphy at the Retina Group of Washington - Fairfax. We are so pleased with this office, the staff, as well as Dr. Murphy. We trust Dr. Murphy completely and appreciate his gentle nature and extensive experience. Justin gets my husband ready for his visit and is such a fun and knowledgeable young man. My husband enjoys these encounters as much as he can. The staff is very professional and so friendly. We look forward to seeing the ladies in the front office. This office works like a well oiled machine. My husband has issues with his vision. One of the many lovely office staff is Merisole. She is always so friendly and welcoming to us. The call center is RUDE! They just hung up on me and yesterday a co-worker called and spoke with another associate from the call center and she was rude as well. If you were to base your decision on the first person you spoke to you would be missing great Doctors! Dr Lee , Dr Byrnes and Dr. Barazi are WONDERFUL, very professional and knowledgeable of their profession. This is unfortunate considering we refer ALOT of our patients to RGW. We are hoping this review will bring action to getting better equip call center representatives. I'm sorry, but honestly, these people who are leaving negative reviews are clueless. You have to understand, that Washington Retina Group is essentially an ER. FOR YOUR EYES. Do you write negative reviews for an ER because you had to wait??? I have gone there far too many times because of retinal tears (I have now had 2 in each eye). This is called an "EMERGENCY." Never once have they turned me away... they have squeezed me in every single time. Once it happened at 9am on a day that I had to drive 3.5 hours to a concert and I was panicked... but I was seen, my retina safely laser-sealed, and on the road down south by 10:30am. The rules are simple: make an appointment first thing in the morning if you don't want to wait. If you HAVE to go later in the afternoon, understand that you're up against a huge patient load, thanks to their ability to handle EMERGENCIES. But they WILL fit you in. I now schedule all of my follow-ups for early in the morning. I can get appointments as early as 7am if I want. I have learned to request (with Dr permission) the weaker eye dilating drops so that my eyes aren't taken out all day. I have regular follow-ups and my doctor is great. If you are NOT an emergency case, then please do yourself a favor and shop around for a regular ophthalmologist. Don't just trot over here to Yelp to leave a one star review! read more
