Located on a busy road, it's easy to drive past without noticing, but inside is the history of Puget Sound and the indiginous people who live here. There is no fee to enter. At first I thought it was a gift shop, but several displays with artifacts and photos are to your right. There is a lot of information regarding the original topography, before civil engineers rerouted rivers and installed dams. It also documents how this activity contributed to the demise of some Duwamish people who relied on these waterways for food.. Artifacts include hunting and fishing gear, hand made baskets, herbs used medicinally and fibers used to make cloth are on display with information on how they are used. Very interesting. A lesson on living off the land. Inside the longhouse are photographs and a canoe you can checkout. This longhouse is built as the communal longhouses of the past were with an elevated platform around the edges that would have been used for sitting and sleeping. It's a beautiful space. After we read all the info (there's a lot of info) and looked at all the artifacts we browsed the gift shop and made a few purchases. They have a variety of artisan made products including beautiful blankets, jewelry, note cards and wall art among other things. We chatted with the staff member as we made our purchases. She answered a few questions we had and we chatted about family. She was very pleasant. This is a good stop for learning local history and purchasing local art.

We had never gone until this past weekend, though, when they held a craft fair. The longhouse is located very near the industrial port area, on the opposite side of Marginal Way, and is very nicely built (wood) yet small. There are two rooms, that we know. The first houses a museum of sorts. In the second was where they put the crafts and behind that is a small kitchen where they were selling a few items, including the hottest item (basically everyone came for this), the frybread. We felt honored to be hosted by the Duwamish. We picked up a beautiful beaded hummingbird. The reason I do not give five stars is because the space was so small, which made browsing the crafts very difficult. Normally I would have liked to learn so much more about each vendor and their items yet here you were lucky if you could even squish close enough to see or buy anything. A couple of vendor spots were less populated, I think because what they had on offer was less of an "easy" sell - gorgeous ledger art and handmade drums. Recommend a visit.

I loved how close you can get to everything--you can really appreciate the size and details, and you can even step inside some of the aircraft. The WWII planes and tanks were especially fascinating. The museum is spacious, well organized, and easy to explore at your own pace. Even if you're not a huge military or aviation enthusiast, it's still really interesting. Can't believe a museum with a collection like this is free. Definitely a hidden gem!

Sweet little museum right in the heart of Bothell. We stumbled upon this little place while we…read morewere at the park. We saw a number of folks coming in and out of the of this old cabin and Schoolhouse and decided to check it out. It was a fun surprise for our 2 yr old and 3.5 yr old so see all the old tools and how folks lived as the area was being settled. The old Beckstrom cabin is quaint. You can't go inside - only look from the front door - but it's a very small place with many period piece antiques and tools used in the 1800's. We then ducked into the Hannan House. The docent was very friendly and was a wealth of knowledge. It was kitted out in some great antiques and décor items. Loved the children's room upstairs with all the toys. Had to keep a hand on our daughter as she wanted to cross over the ropes and play with the toys, which were pretty cool. Our favorite was the old Schoolhouse. The docents was very sweet and friendly. Our little guys enjoyed the table with the type writer, mechanical coin bank, and cash register. The docent knew a great deal about the structure and the owners of the schoolhouse. All of the buildings were relocated to the area from other locations in the Bothell area. So nice they the effort is being made to preserve the history and pass it onto the next generation. While our kiddos are very young, they did enjoy exploring and seeing all the items on display in every building. Great little detour. The buildings are all very close together. They are not wheelchair / stroller friendly as many older buildings of the late 1800's / turn of the century were not. Takes about 20-30 minutes to see all the properties.

There are free guided tours (please bring cash to tip the volunteers) at 11am and 1pm. You are free to explore the museum on your own, but the tour is highly recommended given how knowledgable the volunteers are! Built in 1906, this historical landmark showcases the giant turbines and allows you to explore what once powered the City of Seattle and its transportation system. This is a great way to spend a couple hours off the beaten path. Great place to take photos as well!

What I like about this place is that occasionally they rent it out for special events. We went on a day where it had a live music show that played as the onlookers meandered through the plant. The. Music reverberated throughout the whole place! Lots of parking in the side of the building. Though the entrance is a little hard to find from the street. We're not talking about massive corporate bucks or sponsors here. While much of Seattle seems to be sponsored, The Unity Museum is an individual initiative that opened up in 2012 and continues to grow even through the challenges of surviving through the pandemic. The Unity Museum offers physical and virtual tours. They are primarily interested in folks who are fully vaccinated as Seattle slowly opens up, though they will admit non-vaccinated folks with masks. Dr. Amy Colbert is the curator of the museum and Zabine Van Ness is its Executive Director. It is a non-profit guided by a well educated, informed board of directors. The museum is a subsidiary of United Hearts Networking Institute. I was fascinated by this place - I love small indie museums, though this museum is not wheelchair friendly - 1) It's upstairs in an older building and 2) The layout packs in quite a bit and there are definitely spots where even the best wheelchair user would struggle. Ultimately, for those in wheelchairs I recommend a virtual tour or arranging for an exhibit. The Unity Museum uplifts humanity by celebrating the history of human progress toward unity, social justice, and global peace. They offer rotating exhibits, presentations, and public discourse on local and global topics relevant to its themes. They also do offer outreach exhibits and presentations for the community. They have limited in-person hours, however, if you're in Seattle it's worth going out of the way to check out and support. The Unity Museum is on the bus route within the University District and it's super close to a couple hotels (including the one I stayed at, Graduate). It's also adjacent to University of Washington. While I wish accessibility was much improved, ultimately this place is super cool and I still give it an enthusiastic thumbs up.

The doors of the Unity Museum opened in 2012 and this location has been serving the University District since 2014. Exhibits rotate about every three months, including topics such as history of Seattle, the importance of the role of women in society, race and race unity, the complementarity of science and religion, and much, much more. Come and meet Zabine and the volunteers who keep the space warm, questions answered, coffee and homemade cookies on hand for visitors and guests. Come back for more learning and participating in activities including a monthly brunch, fireside chats and so much more. It's a lovely, cozy space with much to offer, learn and share with the community, not just university students, but students at all ages and stages. Keep an eye out for more activities, including a children's story time and classes.

I will say, the amount of items that are included in a session only takes about 10 minutes to smash. They do have options to add extras, but the selection kind of depends on the day it seems. I noticed they had a lot more options when I went during the week vs when I went on a weekend. I also noticed that they let me play music the first time I went, but that wasn't an option the most recent time. Book well in advance, and plan on eating after (but not in the immediate area)- smashing stuff is exhausting! The staff is fine, the experience is a blast, the price is worth it if you want to relieve some stress. There are pros and cons for sure, but I still plan on going back!
