Prior to the birth, she met with me and my husband multiple times, and gave us excellent guidance, including how to manage contractions, and understanding what I could say "no" to in the hospital (like having an IV placed at the start of labor). I wanted to avoid and epidural and have fewer interventions during the birth, and thanks in large part to Emily I was able to have the labor that I wanted. Throughout my pregnancy and then postpartum, Emily was communicative and caring. She came to my home after the birth and showed me some additional strategies for breastfeeding, and has checked in on me multiple times just to see how I was doing. I love the prenatal check-ins and chats, it really made me feel supported. She kept me calm when I felt anxious or overwhelmed and I really appreciated that. Most importantly, having LaShea at my birth was truly truly amazing. I don't know what I would have done without her! She was an advocate for my husband and I. LaShea made sure that our birth plan was followed and that we felt comfortable while delivering in such a confined space. She helped with massage, gave me amazing affirmations, and even helped with feeding me lol. She was awesome! I had Chelsea as my postpartum doula after I gave birth. I really liked the virtual aspect of it because, you know, COVID. She was so informative and gave my husband and I new and updated tips and tricks that I'll use for my future kids! The pregnancy was an emotionally difficult time for me and overall negative experience, and I struggled with very bad anxiety that something would go wrong. I had a horrible experience with my first doctor where I felt completely mistreated and downright bullied so I fired this doctor well into the 3rd trimester, as I realized i did not want to see her again or have her deliver my baby. Throughout this, she was such a source of peace to me, always there to listen or answer questions and supported me as I found a new practitioner at 35 weeks. At that point I took the only doctor in my area who would take me so late into the game, and although they were better and more respectful than the first doctor I saw, they still were not like minded to myself- they were very medical and intervention minded, and I have always known I wanted a natural birth with no intervention unless absolutely necessary. Switching doctors so late, not having a close relationship with my provider, and also working with someone who i wasn't on the same page with, it was SO great to have someone who I felt was there for me to really support me and who I had developed a relationship with. When there was something I worried about, Jessi was always there with a quick response to reassure me, and to listen; she has a calming way about her. She also always had tons of resources and referrals (for instance my baby was breech until the 11th hour and she provided me with resources and exercises, and by the birth she was headdown). Jessi was also so helpful, supportive, amazingly valuable to have during my birth. Honestly i do not know how i could have gotten through an over 30 hour labor trying to be as natural as possible, without her support. She truly went above and beyond for my husband, myself and my family. The contract was for her to be there 24 hours, she stayed with me for the whole time which included being up all night by my side, which was way beyond what we had agreed upon. She helped my husband to better support me (initially he was not in favor of natural birth or a doula and he has changed his mind and now says he would tell any couple who is expecting to get a doula). He got to rest a bit, which was needed. Also at times when the doctors were rude or pushy re: interventions in my labor, she helped me to think through things and advocate for myself. Although my birth wasn't fully according to plan I felt that Jessi helped support me to make decisions etc. in the moment and I feel overall good about the choices I made in birth given the doctor and hospital I was at that wasn't on the same page as myself... I was extremely nervous going into the birth and she was such a peaceful, calming presence to have there. Also i am very scared of hospital and medical things in general and probably acted in unexpected ways because of that during my birth, and i never once felt judged by her for that... She also updated my mom who was also very anxious about how things were going throughout the experience of my labor probably keeping her from having a heart attack :) ... all in all Jessi is an amazing, talented doula who you can tell truly does what she does from a place of passion and a heart for women in pregnancy and birth, and I would recommend her to anyone or hire her again in a heartbeat.

There is so much good about this practice, but unfortunately it is completely overshadowed by the…read morebad. There are, or maybe were, some great midwives. Seems a lot left. There is a homey feel as opposed to clinical feel. That is were the good ends. They badly mismanaged my hyperemesis, it was hands down my most difficult pregnancy (it was my third) and although my birth was okay, it was my only birth that I tore and my son had shoulder dystocia and came out not breathing. Thank god he is okay. To make matters worse, the follow up was laughable. They are very hands off, but maybe to the point of negligence. But the very worst part of the experience was despite asking to meet all the midwives, I never once met the head midwife. She only reached out very rudely about billing issues. I would avoid this practice, it is wrapped in a pretty paper but has systemic issues throughout.

With my first we did everything we could to have a…read morenatural delivery but my son was large, 42 weeks, and determined to stay put despite a two day induction. While I was initially devastated at the thought of a C-section Chelsea was there the whole time, helping me ask the right questions of my providers and allowing me to feel heard and part of the decision. When my baby's heartrate started dropping and he was born with severe torticollis it was clear that he was in a very bad position and the surgery prevented what could have been a very serious outcome. With my second I was determined to have a VBAC, but any C-section mama will tell you, this can be an uphill fight when it comes to your provider. Chelsea and Lauren were available to talk after every appointment. I could vent, and ask questions, and figure out exactly how to put myself in the best possible position to have a vaginal delivery. I'm so pleased that I was able to have a VBAC this past April with my second son and I know that a huge part of it came down to the support of my doulas! These women are so dedicated, staying with you for hours and hours, sitting with you on the floor, holding your hand, wiping your sweat, and squeezing your hips. This is the type of support all birth moms deserve!
