Finally after speaking to Vic from "Vic's shoe repair" in Rockaway Borough, he sent me to his cousin. Ms. Kechishian in Sparta. She did such an incredible job and in less time than expected. It is in better condition then it was when it left the factory. She replaced the thin vinyl with leather and restitched the seams. The costs was a bargain and less then I would have spent buying a used seat off eBay. I so highly recommend the Leather Zone in Sparta, NJ and I really want to thank Hratch for the time, work and effort that she did for me.

The owner, Zoe, assured me they knew how to care for that type of bag. I asked that they not rush because it's a delicate item and specifically requested they take their time. After about two and a half weeks, I called to see if my bag was ready, and they said yes. When I went to pick it up, I was so disappointed to see that one side of the bag seemed ruined. It looked like someone had scrubbed it, which completely destroyed the color. Not only that, but there was also a hole in the lining, which they later attempted to repair--even after I had asked them not to touch the bag until the owner returned from being out of town. I understand that mistakes happen, and I was more than willing to let them fix it. The first woman I spoke to was incredibly kind and patient. However, when I finally spoke with the owner, Zoe, she refused to admit they had done anything wrong. She repeatedly interrupted me, dismissed my concerns, and insisted her family had done this kind of work for generations. What was really odd was that when I told her I was at work and feeling stressed by the conversation, and asked her to please lower her voice, she mimicked me and said, "I'm in the office and you're stressing me out, please stop yelling at me," while practically yelling herself. She continued to downplay my concerns, told me to calm down, and accused me of overreacting. I asked to speak with someone else, since we clearly weren't communicating well, but she ignored me and continued loudly talking about her family history. Eventually, I got through to her that I had pictures of my bag before they damaged it. She kept insisting the bag looked "beautiful" and that the work was "beautiful." After I sent her the before-and-after photos, she replied with an image of the poor repair job to the lining, despite my explicit request that no repairs be made until I had spoken with her. She was still confrontational when I picked up my bag. I left work early because the whole experience made me feel they would further destroy it. I had to ask her around five times that I just wanted to pay for the handles and leave. She kept insisting the work was good, and then went further to say I was trying to ruin her business. This was the worst money I've ever spent. This whole experience was awful. I had really hoped to find a nice local place to bring my bags, but sadly, this wasn't it.

The zipper on my cabin carry-on had jammed completely and I couldn't get the bag open or closed properly. I brought it in expecting to leave it for at least a few hours if not a day or two. Instead, the person helping me took a look, got to work, and had the zipper unstuck and running smoothly in about 15 minutes while I waited. What really impressed me is that he didn't just fix it, he showed me how to handle it myself if it ever happens again. His technique: overstuff the bag so the fabric draws out and the tension increases around the zipper track, then give the caught area a few firm flicks with the edge of a credit card. The added tension plus the flicking releases the fabric from the zipper teeth. Simple, clever, and the kind of trade knowledge you only get from people who have been doing this for a long time.

I've shopped there on and off over the years, mostly for patterns that have long since been discontinued. The ones I have found have been great! Such a nice person, and always willing to answer questions. His quick turnaround time was also surprising. He tuned up my machine (which hadn't been serviced in several years) and even left a note with it suggesting something that would make it run better. Big stores are great. I contacted Bric's who referred me to their webpage where a list of approved dealers were listed. I contacted Square Luggage and sent the requested information and photos of the broken part. They were extremely helpful and told me the cost if the part and shipping which I found very affordable. After a quick phone call they were able to have the replacement handle to me and the suitcase again looks brand new.
