And since there really aren't many business who specialize in this, I had high hopes. Granted, the work he did for me was fairly reasonable but their quality and reliability are sketchy at best. I brought a fairly expensive shearling coat to have some alterations performed. Specifically, I needed the buttons moved & sleeves shortened. I was immediately taken back because the proprietor wreaked of cigarettes. Not sure about others but I really cannot stand my clothing or just about anything else smelling of smoke. He was also, less than friendly, bordering on curt. He matter of factly measured me and the coat and informed me that he was really busy and told me it would take about 3 weeks. Can't fault a guy for being busy so I agreed and left. Three weeks later I called and inquired about my coat and was told that it was ready. Said I would be down to pick it up shortly and when I arrived, the store had closed early. Okay, shit happens. Trip number 3 the next day only to find out that it wasn't ready. I reminded him that he said it was done and he had no reply, just reiterated how busy he was. Two weeks later, coat is finally finished. Trip #4. Alterations were sloppy at best and I saw that he had discarded a leather tab that was on one of the sleeves. I asked what happened and he said he decided to leave it off. Really? Would have thought that was my decision. Fortunately, he empties his trash about as often as he empties his ashtray so he was able to fish it out and sloppily reattach it. Again, this is a leather specialty store that specializes in leather repair and tailoring. Demeanor and smell aside, I expected perfect work and received something not even close. I wore the coat maybe a few times, had my local tailor try and repair the shoddy work he performed and ended up giving it away. Not sure about his other work but if you need leather or suede altered or repaired, I would stay the hell away.

After a quick call, the guys at Interstate swooped in and were able to transform my scuffed up boots into nearly perfect shape. The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star review was the work they did on my leather jacket. They did an excellent job touching up the faded color spots but I wasn't in love with the patch job done on the lining. While each pair of shoes was reasonably priced at under $20 a pop, my jacket was $100+ and had literal patches that rub awkwardly on my arms whenever I wear it. Not the end of the world, just would have taken it elsewhere if I would have known they weren't going to sew up the tears. Don't think twice about taking your shoes or favorite bag here for some much needed TLC. So grateful for their workmanship and won't think twice about dropping off my investment pieces for some much needed TLC in the future!

The boss was fine, but the staff was truly rude. Dealing with such a thing on Saturday literally ruined my weekend. Therefore, I wish to share the whole story with you guys here. On my third visit, I clearly told the staff that I didn't want to spend too much on an outsole replacement, since this particular pair of shoes only cost $95. I even said that if the cost was too high, I would prefer to buy a new pair. The staff assured me the job would be $35, which I agreed to. However, when I returned to pick up the shoes, I was suddenly told the price was $85. I felt helpless since there was no invoice given, and the service has already been done. When I questioned the change, the staff became rude and dismissive, showing a very negative attitude rather than calmly explaining the misunderstanding. It turns out the $35 quote was only for the heel--not the full sole replacement--which was never made clear to me. Thankfully, the boss stepped in and agreed to a $50 charge, which I accepted. But the damage was already done in terms of the experience. After the boss agreed on $50, the staff becomes even more rude to me. This is the reason why I would like to share this experience with everybody else to help your guys avoid such experience. What made this worse is that I had already been tolerant in the past. For example, during a previous service, the staff got black oil/dirt on my shoes which was a pair of brand new Saint Laurent sandals with retail price $770 dollars before tax, but I chose not to complain and continued to support the business. I expected a little more care and respect in return. Please refer to the attached pic for more details. After this last visit, I've lost trust in this store. I don't recommend going to a place where simple communication turns into conflict and customers are treated with such negativity.
