I took my dog to Laughing Dogs once a week for two years and she was always really excited to go, so that tells me she had a good time. It was nice to be able to drop her off for the day and know she was taken care of and having fun. I really appreciated Vicky, who took the time to calm her down every visit before handing her over. The only con I can think of is that they are not a drop-in daycare, you must have a reservation. I highly recommend this daycare. read more

My dog loves his time at Laughing Dogs. He needed to be socialized and Vicky has done an amazing job with that. Since he is larger its nice to take him somewhere that he can play and exercise with other dogs during the day. Dropped my daughters dog off today for an evaluation to see if they will let him be cared for there. First of all I liked that, it shows that they have a concern for all the dogs they take care of, not just trying to make a profit. They also required two preventive measures from the vet that we did not have or know of. They also require a breakaway collar, to make sure the dog does not run into a choking issue. The dogs are separated by big dogs and small to medium dogs. There is a lot of employees with the dogs to supervise them. The place is clean and has AC to create a good environment. The staff is friendly and the dog love the person that took him into the play area. Also, off street parking, to pick up or drop off. read more

This happened a few years ago, but wanted to post it in the hopes that others can avoid this problem. We have a wonderful rescue dog who was not socialized with other animals when growing up. We had a house project and after picking up him from them on the final day, I was told that he didn't play with the other dogs. I asked if that was a problem; they were a bit wishy washy about it, but I could tell that they did. "Your dog sat in a corner and only played with us, not the other dogs". So what? He did not cause an issue or disrupt the other dogs. I left thinking that was silly. A year later we had him boarded for a weekend, and this, along with frequent dog park visits really helped him learn how to interact normally with other dogs. He's loves the interactions at the dog parks now, and the play too. The following year we were having our house painted and wanted to keep him away from the painters. I called LDD and they accepted him for the dates we needed, so I scheduled with the painters. The next day, they called back saying "No we can't take him - he's antisocial." I was pretty mad, but kept my temper stating that his behavior and interactions were much improved, and that they/we had committed to our project. Couldn't they at least try him and see if it would work? How about offering to work with him and improve his behavior? NO and NO were the answers. What a crock of... So we were forced to leave him with the house painters, whom to our surprise, actually enjoyed having him around. Our dog is a wonderful golden retriever rescue who loves people and loves to play. I still find it ridiculous that they wouldn't take him. I don't think they cared enough to take the time to understand that he was a rescue and needed a little help. Then they blackballed him and obtusely refused to listen or care that the situation had changed. It's really bad business to refuse a client after accepting them. If you have a dog who's "antisocial" or doesn't conform to their idea of doggy perfection, don't waste your time with LDD. I will not recommend them to anyone. read more

If I could, I wouldn't even give this place one star! I would not waste your time or money at this dog daycare. Prior to setting up my screening interview for my dog. Vicki the owner, was NOT RESPONSIVE. She was hard to get ahold of to schedule a a screening appointment. I also asked if I could see the facility to know where my dog would be for daycare. Her response was no, due to Covid. Even though! Everyone is masked and I am fully vaccinated. So she ended sending me pictures of the inside which even that wasn't very helpful because it was just of the dog area. I wanted to see the full facility, or even a FaceTime to show me around. Fast forward to the screening appointment, I arrived outside at 10:40am and she took my dog in at 10:45am. She told me to return at 12pm to pick him up because again, I was not able to go inside. She litterly called me at 11:02pm.... Basically saying he's not a good fit and come pick him up.... So luckily I didn't drive all the way home to Kaneohe which is a 20min drive away from the daycare... when I arrived, she brought him out and it was raining. So we were talking outside under this little overheard roof (so unprofessional)!!!! She said they let him get familiar with the play area with no dogs around, and then introduced one dog with a fence in between them and my dog growled..... didn't even give him a chance to smell, sniff, calm down, no chance. As soon as he growled she brought another dog to try, and he growled... How is a dog suppose to be given a chance when you only allowed 15min and probably 10min or that he was sniffing around the facility. This place is an absolute joke. And mind you, I always take my dog to the dog park when I have time off and I also have a 5yr old lab at home. So he's been around hundreds of dogs with no issue! 15min!!! I would never support such a business and the owner is so unprofessional, unreliable and I wouldn't trust her with your dog. read more

Absolutely love this place and the staff. My miniature dachshund started going to Laughing Dogs Daycare at 4 months old and went a few days every week for over 2 years up until we moved about a month ago. My pup always had fun here and would be exhausted at the end of the day. They were accommodating with short notice daycare drop offs, too. We also used their boarding services, the longest time being for 2 months. During those times, text updates with photos were sent so I knew my pup was okay. Additionally, when I moved off island, I was unable to leave my pup with friends and Laughing Dogs was more than willing to accommodate my pup and the pet mover relocation service I used to ensure my pup left island safely. I thank the staff at Laughing Dogs for treating my pup like family. read more

The owner does not respond, answer the phone, and even hung up on me when my dog and I arrived. She seems overwhelmed and even on the verge of anger. This person does not even seem like she is a dog lover at all. Perhaps she just saw a business opportunity and is trying to make a go of it. Be aware and look around for a loving place to send you pet. read more

As with the one review that's not recommended, Erik A., I too had a similar experience several years ago with this facility. The owners of that time were a brother/sister combo, neither had any experience professionally with animals and so it's a bit of a mystery as to why they chose to open the sort of facility. Perhaps they are still the owners, I'm unsure. Their marketing was very good and the facility was always clean. I had two dogs I took there frequently for daycare. My one male dog was one year old at that point and one day, he was barking at another male dog in excitement, apparently too close to that dog's face. (This was as one dog was entering in to the facility.) I blame what happened on the staff's inexperience with not knowing how to read animal behavior or intervene appropriately. That dog ended up biting my dog above his eye. My dog bit back in retaliation and when one of the staff members grabbed my dog from behind, that staff member got bit too. They clearly had no idea how to break up this interaction. It's very unfortunate both dogs got bitten, as well as a staff member, but I think it was likely unavoidable. The result was that they banned my dog from daycare or boarding permanently. I understand that action from their perspective but again, their inexperience in not knowing how to read canine behavior is likely what led to that event occurring in the first place. read more

I no longer have the stress of rushing home from work to let the dog out, or of leaving him home alone or in the car when I need to do errands. My neighbors have nothing to complain about because there is no barking dog anymore. I can go away without a care in the world because I know he is in excellent hands. The level of service here is unbelievably high. long version: This is a local family-owned business. They have thought through everything very carefully and observe best practices. They are experts in dog training. It's not just a business for them, they are passionate, knowledgable professionals. They carefully screen all of their canine clients---no bullies allowed! They get to know each dog really well and give helpful feedback about any changes in behavior that could indicate a developing health problem, or how to reinforce positive behaviors. They also post photos and funny anecdotes on Facebook to let us know how our dogs are doing. My dog is older, has health issues, and is a little bit spoiled. He gets lots of attention all day long from loving humans and playful puppies at Laughing Dogs. He acts like a younger dog now, and his heart murmur has improved. When I first heard about doggy daycare in general, I thought is was some kind of sick yuppie joke, a skit from the "Portlandia" TV show, but now I am a believer. The cost seemed high to me, but after doing research, I can say that unlike most things in Hawaii, Laughing Dogs is actually cheaper than comparable services on the mainland. When you consider that the hours are 6:30 AM to 7 PM on weekdays, it's actually a very good value. When I first went to Laughing Dogs, I was turned off because there was no yard. I thought that my dog would be better off having time outdoors. I was wrong about that. Outdoors means sunburn, exposure to heat and rain, getting muddy and dirty from dog waste, picking up fleas, ticks, worms, and getting mosquito bites or worse. I was also worried at first that my dog relieving himself inside the Laughing Dogs facility would lead to him doing it at home. Not a problem. He knows the difference. The staff has the ability to immediately clean up an dog waste from the floor. If it were outdoors, they would never be able to sanitize the ground like they can the floor. Another advantage to being indoors is that my dog is not picking up pollen on his fur, which would trigger my allergies. Vicky, Cary, and the whole Laughing Dogs crew are friendly, flexible, caring, and reliable. My life is so much easier because of them. So why so few reviews? I'll admit my own procrastination in posting here is because I rely on them so much, they are a small facility, and I was worried that if the business were to grow too much, I'd have a hard time making appointments for daycare and boarding. However, regular customers are treated well, and my dog has never been turned away. It would be wrong not to acknowledge how wonderful Laughing Dogs is, and to not share this information with other dog owners who need the support. read more

I have been using Laughing Dogs Daycare for over a year and absolutely LOVE them. My little guy is high energy and cannot be left in his kennel for a long work day or a day full of conferences. I feel very confident dropping him off knowing they are separated by size and constantly supervised. I also like that the facility is indoors where it is cool. I took my dog to another boarding facility on this side of the island and my dog was SCORCHING when he got in the car, panting heavily and drank so much water he got sick. Never again will I take him there now that I have discovered Laughing dogs. They are super friendly and my dog is always happy and tuckered out when I pick him up. read more

Absolutely amazing! I truly do not know what I would do without Laughing Dogs. When I first adopted my pup, she was described as "shut down." She didn't know how to walk on a leash, was terrified of people and other dogs, and hid behind furniture. Vicky worked with her, starting with an hour to longer increments. She was so patient, caring, and understanding. She never pushed my dog too far, and always looks out for her well being. Fast forward to a year later, Luna stays the full time at daycare 2-3x a week, and LOVES it. Laughing Dogs Daycare has drastically improved her behavior and comfort with other people and dogs. She's much more social, and just way happier. Laughing dogs is always accommodating, and has helped me out last minute when emergencies have come up. I can always count on the staff to do everything they can to take care of my pup like family. So thankful for Vicky and Laughing Dogs! read more
