I was interested in upgrading to a Wi-Fi-enabled garage opener because there are times, I need my car shipped from another location, and I might not be home when it arrives. Additionally, I like the Amazon delivery program, were, in inclement weather or by request, they can access my garage to deliver packages. What impressed me most about the individual who came to replace my garage door motor was that he recognized other potential problems that could cause me to lose my garage door. He wasn't trying to upsell me; he simply noticed issues that should be addressed. My initial request was to replace only one garage door motor and track, but he pointed out that the other opener was 12 years old, something I wasn't aware of and he offered what seemed like a fair deal for replacing both. The only thing I wasn't aware of was that I am responsible for disposing of the old garage motor and track. That was not a problem at all. Sanitation had no trouble disposing of the old garage motor and track. Overall, I highly recommend the company, and I will take responsibility for the garbage.

When the tech arrived, I asked how much it would cost to install new rollers on the doors. His original quote of $300 per door was outrageous-- 2-3x other quotes. Thankfully I was an informed consumer and negotiated down to $160, a premium price but I just wanted it done. As for the install, the tech installed the opener but had difficult pairing the opener with my vehicle. After some time he said the opener was defective, but he eventually figured it out. However, during the process he erased the pairing with my other two doors which he also had extreme difficulty pairing. On of the doors he literally could not pair and, again, said it was a problem with the opener and tried to leave me with this problem. I had to intervene and lookup the instructions for this opener and found it had a rolling code system from the 90s, something this tech had never heard of. With my instructions, he was able to pair the door to the car. He spent over an hour on pairing the doors to one car. In the process, he left grease marks from his hands on the headliner of my vehicle. When he replaced the rollers, he bent the metal door sails to slide out the old ones and slide in the new ones. All the DIY videos I had watched said this was a bad practice as it's literally bending your rails which will never Ben perfectly back. Of course, this is the fastest way to do it and took home 10 minutes per door, which at the price I had negotiated was outrageous and would have been borderline criminal at the original quoted price of $300 per door. He bent the rails back as best he could when he was done. Finally, the tech mounted the opener button to my wall obviously crooked. He also did not know how to connect the opener to a second button, something that another company had no issue in doing for a different door. To add insult to injury, the installer did not take the older opener with him. The old opener had one solid 10' steel rod which made it challenging to dispose of. Overall, my experience was substandard at best and feels like a hack job. There was nothing "Smart" about it as their name suggests. I am leaving two stars instead of one because the opener does function, but even that I think is generous.

It was not a rush request, I could manage. but, he had one of his guys scheduled for Friday. David stopped by and he was great. He needed some parts, told what was wrong, gave me a locked-in price. Booking a consultation was easy and he took the time to explain everything from materials to costs to timelines. The new garage doors are a near-perfect match to the existing paint job (hunter green, see accompanying pictures). We ended up needing to replace the garage roof and the frame, which Door Tech also took care of (they're not just limited to doors!). Fast forward to the day of the roof replacement / door installation and we discover a rotting post with termites. Oren is on-site, immediately communicates the issue, and provides a clear solution. Bonus: Oren and his crew did all of the above in ONE day, which is incredible especially if you've ever done any home renovation work of any kind. After calling the office, I spoke with the gentleman about work they had done in the past, apparently the last time they came, 2 years prior, was just to replace a spring, I said we would need some repairs, and he said he would send a guy out to the house that day for inspection, so that was efficient. The guy comes, young guy late 20's early 30's to check the garage, and says we will most likely need a new door, which we planned for anyway, and he took some measurements, quoted us 2200 for next day installation. I checked online and it was on the higher end for the work, but as it being next day immediate installation, other reviews being good and it fits into our agenda of home improvement, we went with it. The guys come on time with all the equipment and they get to work, and they know what they are doing. Everything solidly installed, new door, tracks, and all. Two guys working and it took them about 2-2.5 hours to get it done. Garage opens and closes smoothly. Door looks nice and it coming with a ten year warranty is much appreciated, service, labor, and workmanship was great. I wore a mask and kept distance best I could while working with them. 5 stars. Punctual, Proficient, Hard Working, Knowledgable, a little expensive but the garage door work does look great, they go above and beyond to get the job done and take care of their customers.

I searched YouTube for instructions on how to rewind the spring and tie the cables. Meanwhile, I called Master Garage Door and Gate to see if they could fix it quickly. Since there were no broken parts and the springs were in place, they only needed to tie in the cable and adjust the tension on the existing spring. From a YouTube demo, I estimated that this could be done in 15 to 30 minutes. Considering possible hourly rate of $200, I thought the project could cost between $100 and $150. The customer service was OK. She quickly scheduled a technician who was working on another job nearby. When the technician arrived, he informed me that the labor charge would be around $450. He also mentioned that I needed new parts to level the garage door. The total cost (labor plus parts) was approximately $750. I asked him about his hourly rate, he declined to answer, saying they only charge by the job. Asked how long it would take to finish the job, the tech declined to answer again. Since I didn't need new parts and the springs are already in place, I asked him to tie the cable to the drum and wind the springs only. His charge was $400. I argued that the work would take less than 30 minutes. I was willing to pay the maximum of $200, or I would do the job myself following the instructions I had found on YouTube. I knew that it might take me longer than a professional, but I can finish it in 1-2 hours. The technician came back and asked for $350, then $300, and I finally agreed to pay $250, or I would do the job myself. He accepted and finished the job in 20 minutes. I have no complaints about the technician's skills, but I was disappointed that he tried to upsell me unnecessary parts and then charged an exorbitant amount for less than 30 minutes of work. A $120 - $180 hourly rate would be reasonable. But at $250 for a 20 minutes job, his charge rate was $750 per hour, way beyond reasonable. I'm certainly disappointed of their not being straightforward in labor charges.
