Getting a new garage door for the house was on the list of home improvements we wanted to do, and in the past my family had used Master Garage Door and Gate to have work done, and they left a sticker on the side of the garage to call in case more needed to be done, so we did. After calling the office, I spoke with the gentleman about work they had done in the past, apparently the last time they came, 2 years prior, was just to replace a spring, I said we would need some repairs, and he said he would send a guy out to the house that day for inspection, so that was efficient. The guy comes, young guy late 20's early 30's to check the garage, and says we will most likely need a new door, which we planned for anyway, and he took some measurements, quoted us 2200 for next day installation. I checked online and it was on the higher end for the work, but as it being next day immediate installation, other reviews being good and it fits into our agenda of home improvement, we went with it. The guys come on time with all the equipment and they get to work, and they know what they are doing. Everything solidly installed, new door, tracks, and all. Two guys working and it took them about 2-2.5 hours to get it done. Garage opens and closes smoothly. Door looks nice and it coming with a ten year warranty is much appreciated, service, labor, and workmanship was great. I wore a mask and kept distance best I could while working with them. 5 stars. Punctual, Proficient, Hard Working, Knowledgable, a little expensive but the garage door work does look great, they go above and beyond to get the job done and take care of their customers. read more

I was attempting to fix my garage door myself because the bottom wasn't level. In the process, I loosened the bolts on the drums too much, causing the cable to come loose and the spring unwinding. I searched YouTube for instructions on how to rewind the spring and tie the cables. Meanwhile, I called Master Garage Door and Gate to see if they could fix it quickly. Since there were no broken parts and the springs were in place, they only needed to tie in the cable and adjust the tension on the existing spring. From a YouTube demo, I estimated that this could be done in 15 to 30 minutes. Considering possible hourly rate of $200, I thought the project could cost between $100 and $150. The customer service was OK. She quickly scheduled a technician who was working on another job nearby. When the technician arrived, he informed me that the labor charge would be around $450. He also mentioned that I needed new parts to level the garage door. The total cost (labor plus parts) was approximately $750. I asked him about his hourly rate, he declined to answer, saying they only charge by the job. Asked how long it would take to finish the job, the tech declined to answer again. Since I didn't need new parts and the springs are already in place, I asked him to tie the cable to the drum and wind the springs only. His charge was $400. I argued that the work would take less than 30 minutes. I was willing to pay the maximum of $200, or I would do the job myself following the instructions I had found on YouTube. I knew that it might take me longer than a professional, but I can finish it in 1-2 hours. The technician came back and asked for $350, then $300, and I finally agreed to pay $250, or I would do the job myself. He accepted and finished the job in 20 minutes. I have no complaints about the technician's skills, but I was disappointed that he tried to upsell me unnecessary parts and then charged an exorbitant amount for less than 30 minutes of work. A $120 - $180 hourly rate would be reasonable. But at $250 for a 20 minutes job, his charge rate was $750 per hour, way beyond reasonable. We should have read the reviews before we had Master Garage Door & gates install our garage door opener! If we had only read the review by Steph E. Written on April 5th 2025 it would have saved us thousands of dollars. Several other reviews were just as bad. I checked with the Better Business Bureau and this business is NOT BBB accredited! A BBB accreditation can help businesses build trust with clients and signals to the customers that the business is committed to ethical practices and customer satisfaction. It is no mystery why Master Garage Door & Gates WAS NOT accredited by BBB. Several Emails and phone calls to the company concerning the exorbitant charges, a total of $3200 to replace our garage door opener with the installation of a chamberlain garage door opener Model B2211T(sold at Home Depot for $199) and also a set of Springs and cables, went unanswered. We were told by the technician that the reason for the high cost was due to extended warranty. Our bill stated 6 years warranty for the opener. However on further research I found that the model we got came with a manufacturers warranty of six years so no additional monies should have been charged. It seems we were really taken by this company and apparently have no recourse since no one will even respond! I am writing this review so that we may help others steer clear of Master Garage Door & Gates. No ethical practices or customer satisfaction demonstrated with this company. I was ripped off; overcharged for low quality work. My door was left in unsafe condition, only to break shortly after their service. These guys are out for the money grab. They do not take pride in their work and/or follow up with the service guarantees that they promise. They do not answer the phone when existing customers call. They overcharge, lie about parts that they sell you, do not leave doors in safe operating condition, swear by their warranty and then disappear. Master Garage charged me $1300 to replace springs. For starters, this is way overpriced. I inquired about price with the technicians and owner. They claimed that the high quality of the long lasting springs, "Diamond" brand, was the reason for this cost. After paying, I did research and discovered that the springs they sold me were actually not authentic Diamond springs at all. This is based on the authenticity verification instructions on the official Diamond manufacturer website. In addition, I called Diamond, explained the situation and sent photos. They verified that the springs that Master sold me were not authentic. I then contacted Master Garage about this and they confrontationally gave me a long story about the history and legitimacy of their company, but they didn't directly address my focused questions about the authenticity of the springs. Instead, they focused on their warranty/guarantee on their work and said that they would email me details. I never actually received those details. A few weeks later, my garage door started to make noise and was jerky, as other reviewers have also experienced. I texted them about this right away. A full week went by without response from them. Then, they sent a short text message saying to call an 800 number. I've had to work with 5 different phone numbers to contact anyone at this place and all except the 800 number produce a "phone number out of service" message when called. The letterhead of the receipt is a Massachusetts company that also does not answer calls. Text messages are not answered for days, if at all. So much for guarantees of service/quality. Last night, a month after their service, my garage door seized while closing; it was jammed and stuck open. My evening plans were ruined and I had to leave the door open over night, which is insecure. I could not get anyone from Master to respond on text, yelp or phone from any of their phone numbers to help me. Neither the warranty or the high quality parts that were presented as the justification for the overly high price that they charged me -- have been delivered on. Finally, I hired a second company licensed in my area for emergency services. They got the door operational again. They made sure to show me that Master's repair did not leave it in safe operating condition. They showed me key issues and a list of parts that should have been originally identified as safety hazards until replaced (see photos). They showed me the corners that were cut during Master's repair. See photos. Master reused multiple parts that should have been replaced for safe operation. They did not alert me of this and even sold me parts that were not properly sized for my system that I did not need to begin with; worst case scenario. For a week, I only opened and closed my garage door from inside of my house because it was not safe. I payed Master Garage $1300 for this outcome. In addition, I've had to pay another company for emergency services to get the door operational and to do the job correctly, replace parts and properly restore the door to safe operating condition. Called these guys to come fix my garage door. They were very responsive at first and we set up an appointment for the following day. Then he messages at 10pm needing to reschedule because his technician was "sick". Rescheduled for another day for 1-3pm. I tried to message twice asking if they had any earlier times available and was met with no response. 3:45pm comes around and no one ever showed up or called. I message them and get a response 30 minutes later and a call from their technician saying he wouldn't be there for another 2 hours or he could come 2 days later. At this point I already wasted the whole day waiting around for nothing and had other things to do. I'll tale my business elsewhere. Customers beware. HIGHLY un-reliable. The new door works, that's about as positive as I'm gonna get. The T-handle lock was very loose after installation and was told that this was "normal". Called installer back to come fix it and he then said "well, I used the screws that came with it",But agreed to come fix it at 09:00 the next day. It's now 10:50 and he's a no show and hasn't responded to my text. If the installer is reading this, don't bother coming because I went and got the correct screw and reattached it myself and now it's fine. The spring on my garage door broke on a Friday morning. When I initially called Master Garage Door & Gate (MGDG), no one answered. I then called another company, who gave me an appointment for the following Tuesday. It wasn't ideal, but I accepted it as I had no choice. MGDG called me back stating they had a missed call from me. I kindly explained to them that I had a standing appointment for Tuesday, to which they responded they could come sooner. Naturally this was music to my ears seeing as how my garage is the main entry point for my household. They arrived an hour later, and took all of 45 minutes to replace the cables, springs, and pulleys on both sides. They explained everything so well, including the fact that the original springs and pulleys weren't even the correct size, unbeknownst to me. Super quick, supremely efficient! I had an emergency garage door situation -- it was jammed shut, with my car locked in, and I was late to a work meeting. I ended up calling Master Garage Door & Gate ("MGDG") on a quick Google search. It was the first company I called that could send someone out immediately. MGDG was able to get the door open in a timely manner but the service person said he could not repair it without a full overhaul -- the unit, door, rollers, tracks... everything. I was a renter, so I had them call my landlord to make arrangements, and he agreed to the work. After the unit was completely replaced (and, I'm told, put under full warranty), I noticed that the door was very jerky when it opened and closed. I alerted MGDG and was told that this was normal, and it would improve with use. Because the door was covered by a warranty, I didn't make a huge issue out of it. To be sure, the jerkiness never did improve. A few months later, the door stopped working altogether. I called MGDG to ask them to fix it and they reluctantly agreed. The day after their visit, the door seemed to open and close (although still in a very jerky way) when I left for work that morning. After I returned home from work, I saw that it was jamming, and not closing completely. I inspected the motor and the tracks to confirm there was no obstruction causing the jam and wasn't able to find anything. (Nobody had used the unit, or had access to it, since I had left with my car that morning.) When I called up MGDG the manager I spoke to seemed quite angry with me, telling me that the door was working when the service person left the property, and that I must be to blame for it not working. The manager also provided something of a lecture on the scope of their professional responsibility, telling me that they had no obligation to stand by their work, which was stated as being under warranty, a few months after the firm had performed a complete overhaul of the door and unit. Finally, they informed me that I should contact my landlord to find another company to repair the door. I'm just a renter but I would never use this company again, and I would advise anyone looking for service to avoid them. read more

On the day they promised to return we called the repairman, who said we lived "too far away." There are plenty of garage door companies. No reason to get involved with Master Garage & Door. They knew their job and didn't seemed frazzled by any curve that was thrown their way...I needed new springs and pulleys on my wooden garage door. I couldn't figure out what was actually wrong with my garage door not functioning properly and so I reached out to a few companies. It wasn't closing properly, the wireless keypad wasn't working, etc. Master Garage Door was the first (out of the 7 that I reached out to) one to respond promptly and came out to give me a free estimate the very next morning. Now, I had a few guys come by the house to give me estimates just to make sure I'm getting the best bang for my buck. Not only was Ariel (the owner I think) super friendly, he was honest and gave me the best pricing out of everyone that came by. He told me what the problems were, what he would do to take care of those problems, and even recommended a few other things that needed to be taken care of since it was over two decades old but didn't say it was an emergency and HAD to be changed. They even gave me a can of lubricant and told me to spray the hinges every three to six months as needed for maintenance. They replaced the opener with the latest model, changed the pulley wheels, greased everything up, changed the sensors, the keypad and the closers all within about 30 minutes. On the spot!!!! They cleaned up after themselves very well and just like that, my door was working perfectly again. I don't have to stand there and hold the button for the door to close anymore. YAY! Other places wanted $100-$300 more for the same unit and service but why? Its the same machine... Overall, I was so satisfied with their customer service, I even asked them for a quote to replace the garage doors completely. He was so kind and not annoyed like others were and even gave me two brochures to looks at for styles and colors, etc and gave me an estimated price on the spot after he measured everything. This company barely knows how to fix garage doors and do not at all care if you're in a situation where you need it done quickly. I do not recommended calling them, which in itself is a very frustrating process. I had them fix a cable that had snapped on my garage door once, right before covid started. The guy put the cable in, went to open the door, and the cable and pulley came flying down at us, just barely missing taking my head off. Once he finally got it connected again, he told me he wasn't sure how to do the safety line but I don't really need it. Big mistake there. I barely open my garage door, maybe 3 times since it was "fixed". And on that 3rd time, the metal clip snapped in half! Again the cable came swinging down and I had to dodge out of the way of it! Believe it or not, that's not even the worst part.... I called Master Garage Door and Gate numerous times for 3 weeks. The people who answer always say they're driving and that they'll call you back, but don't. I've left numerous messages and only once they texted me back, instead of bothering to actually call me. AND if you say you're not available at the time they want to come, they tell you to call back again instead of setting a time up that works for you! I have given up on them and called another company to fix their sloppy work.
