We journeyed out to Stellwagen Bank and saw 30 WHALES, dolphins and grey seals! It was an exceptional day for viewing these amazing creatures. I would like to highlight our tour guide and narrator, Lindsay who is a naturalist and someone whose passion, expertise and knowledge was palpable. She is articulate and personable combining just the right amount of enthusiasm and humor throughout the trip. You could feel not only her energy but her authentic respect and devotion to educating others about these giants of the ocean. I feel blessed everyday that I get to live near the ocean here in Massachusetts and to know these amazing mammals live and breathe in our waters. Shortly after we entered the open waters of mid-bay, we started catching, and ended up with approx. 21 Stripers (we might have lost count), and 1 nice Bluefish that Blaine bled out immediately, and enabled us to cook it up berre blanc style and it was excellent.) About 15 stripers were legal sized, but we only kept our legal limit of course. (If we were in NY, we would be eating bass for the rest of the summer! Maybe that's why MA allows less keepers so that there are more available for others to catch!) Regardless, it was literally non-stop action and both Capt. Bob and his mate Blaine were awesome. People bring their 4x4s here and park and play (but not many of them). Get to South Street off 6A, and then drive, drive, drive to the end of South Street (it's bumpy and gravely and a fun ride) where we can park in a nestle of trees. From there it's a quick hop over the dunes via the path, and endless splashing and playing await. Check the tide times for Barnstable harbour, and head on down for low tide! There's even some rocks to play around on if you do hit high tide....

I fished on the Starfish boat in Cape Cod Bay, out of Barnstable yesterday morning . We had good…read moreweather/sea conditions. The boat was full at 12 anglers. A lot of them were newbies.The target was winter flounder (was Memorial Day weekend), but the listing for the trip said they would target tautog upon achieving a boat limit on the flounder. Capt Mike was very helpful with pointing out the basics to everyone and pointed out safety features on the boat. Mate Jeff was attentive with help with the bait, untangling lines, re-tying lines lost to break offs, and unhooking fish/bleeding them for best table fare. Though I caught my 8 fish limit on flounder, not everyone did. So we didn't go elsewhere looking for tautog. The guy fishing next to me said he's fished that boat a fair bit and never seen them target tog, even if the boat limit on flounder was caught. That's BS to list the tog option if they never pursue it. They didn't have crabs for bait to try for tog even if we wanted to. I'd say this is a good, clean, safe boat, run by a good crew (Capt Mike and Mate Jeff) if you want to chase winter flounder on a headboat setting in Cape Cod Bay. But don't plan on trying for tog like they list as a possible option.
