I'm a hunter-gatherer, and I haven't hunted or gathered anything outside of a grocery store. Enter Schooney Charter Fishing. This guy was amazing on a number of levels. I went with two of my siblings and my brother brought along his two sons, ages 9 and 5. First off, they make this as effortless as possible, bating your hooks and casting for you. If you get curious, ask and they showed you how. The captain and his sidekick were extremely patient with my nephews, answering their never-ending supply of questions. They moved from spot to spot, always keeping in contact with other boats to find out where you would have the most success. We fished mainly for Sea Bass, and the occasional Blue Fish. However, they also offer small tuna fishing, shark fishing and cod fishing earlier in the season. Also, on your way back into the harbor, he'll stop by his lobster traps, and whatever is in there, you can have as well. Nice little added bonus. The pricing isn't all that bad, ranging in between $400 and $600 depending on how long you stay out, or if you go tuna fishing, as that's a longer trip out to sea. But if you have a decent day, you can basically make it back in fish. After your day is done, they will clean and fillet your fish for you. Grab a cooler, because you are not going to want to let any of your catch spoil. I've been scarfing down Sea Bass for the past three days like it was my job. Which is good, because since I've discovered "Yelp" I've been paying a lot less attention to my real job. Added Bonus: We had a whale pop up about 10 feet away from the boat....free whale watching....suck it tourists paying $29 for the Provincetown whale watch....

We didn't end up catching anything ourselves (just a bit of bad luck), though we were over big schools of fish and saw several people nearby land some great catches. I even had one on the line that spit the hook as I was reeling in, nothing you can do about that. Catching or not, it was a gorgeous day cruising past the tip of Cape Cod, spotting seals and other marine life, and enjoying the salt air. The whole experience was relaxed, well-run, and a lot of fun. We'll definitely be back on our next trip to Provincetown -- and hopefully we'll have better luck with the bites next time.

Get to South Street off 6A, and then drive, drive, drive to the end of South Street (it's bumpy and gravely and a fun ride) where we can park in a nestle of trees. From there it's a quick hop over the dunes via the path, and endless splashing and playing await. Check the tide times for Barnstable harbour, and head on down for low tide! There's even some rocks to play around on if you do hit high tide....
