I have been getting my hair done with them since the original location in Garfield Ridge area in Chicago. The first location was closer and due to a fire, they had to relocate. I didn't mind traveling because of the quality of work and service. When I first started working with Raquel, my hair was extremely thin and fragile due to illness. With her advice and careful care of my hair, it is better than it ever was. I have had highlights, cuts, ombre, dye, make up, up-dos done here. The time flies by when I'm here and I look forward to my next dramatic change with her. She always gets my color and style right on point no matter what it is or what the change is. She is honest and will get you where you want your hair to be or advise if your hair is not at it's healthiest or realistically you wouldn't be able to achieve it without damage. Not many stylists will do that, they'd rather tell you what you want to hear and take your money. Give them a try!

I have long, thick curly hair and paid 80 USD (excluding tip) for a haircut and 70 USD (also excluding tip) for a blowout. The hairstylist, Nesa, was super friendly and gave me the haircut and the blowout at different times, two weeks apart. I did not go in with a reference picture and just asked her to do whatever she thought would look best. I was not disappointed. I was a little bit confused about the price of the blowout v haircut. It struck me as strange that there was only a ten dollar difference between the two, given that when I had the haircut, the blowout was included in the 80 USD I paid. I have never had a blowout as a separate service (in any salon) before, so I don't know if this is typical. This is a very unassuming salon in a university neighbourhood, with a ten dollar discount for students (unsure if this is just for UChicago students: call and check). The ambience is clean but unexceptional. Overall, I recommend this place. Of the other hair salons I have been to in HP, I have liked this one the best.

I love my neighborhood salon and continue to support the good people at Modern Wave. All the stylists are great. You need color, cut, barber/stylist (Alex), waxing (Rosa), and now they have nail tech. One stop shop. Rosa does my waxing of eye brows, facial area and has years of experience under her belt. This salon is by appointment which is important because you are going to be taken care of during your allotted time. They have coffee/tea/water for customers I come in looking raggedy and come out looking beautiful.

I have been going for about 6 months now and happen to look at my receipt 23.10 for using my debit card!!! WTF! Offense number 2. She was doing my sew in with my used hair. She asked me if I wanted her to wash it. I said sure, and went to grab a burger since I know drying the hair will take some time. less than 30 minutes later she texts me that the hair is ready. There is no way. What ever she did left several HUGE bald spots in my closure. Oh and she's been charging me 75.00 for bringing my own hair (another under handed charge she did not tell me about). Seems to me that bringing your own hair is supposed to save you money. Offense 3. She tried to keep my hair after selling it to me for over 300.00. She removed the hair wrapped it in a towel and put it in her drawer. I was a half block away before I looked in my bag and saw my hair was missing. You have been WARNED! update 1/4/2025 - The hair she installed was stinky and like a rats nest so I had it taken out. Turns out it was not the hair or closure I gave her.
