    Bugs in ceiling light
    Ward W.

Price was good compared to other properties for a reason. Close to freeway and quite noisy so bring earplugs. Room had faint smell of long ago tobacco and was just very very tired. Just seemed like the place isn't bringing in enough money for the owner to invest in the building properly. Worn floor mats in the shower, lots of bugs in the ceiling light, no clock, a blinking message light on the ancient phone the desk is apparently unable to clear, stuck shower diverter. As another reviewer noted, no exhaust fan in the bathroom so have to open unscreened window to vent. Lots of patching and wall damage from decades of changes. (Wouldn't cost much to run around with a bucket of touch-up paint, but nobody cares.) The night I was there lots of loud white trash (sorry, but it's true) smoking dope and fighting with each other; a tatted-up, shirtless, ex-con looking type with pants down his butt sucking a joint and trying to get into the pool. I was too scared to try the "continental breakfast" which looked like little more than bagels, but there is an iHop you can walk to. No nightstand clock, USB charging, or easy-access outlets at counter level. Good thing I brought an extension cord to charge my junk. (Wall outlets were not hard to get to, but were old and felt quite loose. They're also not tamper-resistant so not up to current code.) On the plus side: staff was friendly, the bed, while looking pretty lumpy and worn, was actually comfortable and I slept well (though why they insist on putting a stack of 5 pillows on the bed baffles me). Also seemed like they might have changed the bed-area carpet relatively recently since it didn't seem as worn as the rest of the place and only had a couple of minor stains. Plenty of hot water. Microwave and mini-fridge are nice to have and worked well. Never turned on the tee vee. Blackout curtains on the main window worked well -- and believe me, you'll want them. I'd give it 2.5 stars if I could.

I believe the pictures are self explanatory here. The room was disgusting! The walls needed a good wiping/sanitizing. I honestly didn't want to touch any surfaces in the room. There was no soap, body wash, or conditioner. We had one small bar of soap to share between the two of us. The furniture was heavily stained so we didn't want to sit on anything there. The breakfast was a joke with no protein or fruit. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Fridge barely got cold but had plenty of ice in it.

This room was the worst that I've stayed in for a long time. It was pretty expensive for what it was. Pictures give you a good idea. THAT was not even close to what was served for breakfast. No hot items. Coffee was ok and the linens were nice. That's all I can say that was nice about this place!

    Stained bed sheets

Check in was easy, concierge was thorough and kind, pool looked nice. Parking was easy and free. Single King was priced at $141 for one night. Tv was easy to use, bed was made slightly sloppily, kind of looked like the sheets were reused and there were small stains. Room didn't smell amazing. A lot of bugs. Ants by sink, moths in curtains, ear wigs in bathroom light fixtures. All in all front desk staff is good but the room is dirty. Probably wouldn't stay again considering I was terrified of the bugs above my head while on toilet. Too pricey for a dirty room considering it was a king "suite w fireplace."

    Unidentified substance

Mold in bathroom and dirty shower Tv didn't work or microwave it was there just to make it look better I was a little disappointed but lucky only spent one night there and the Wi-Fi sucks!!!!

we booked this hotel for our vacation. the sheets were nasty when I pulled back the comforter I found out sheets had multiple stains on them. the room had a funky smell I went to open the window only to find it had mold on the ledge and a cracked window with no screen. the floors were dirty. the chair in the room has so many stains on it. the hot tub was broken. we only had one night stand lol. the wallpaper was starting to peel and there were big cracks on the walls and the curtains were ripped. the only good thing I can say about it is that the bed and pull out couch were comfy. the breakfast they provided was pretty decent.

But once guests received keys, they can come in and goes by swiping their keys. Free bfast. Love that. Gym and laundry are ok. Laundry coin only. Pool is square so it was a bit challenging to swim for exercise. Location next to fwy, and Starbucks is next door. Lots of construction areas around. Areas surroundings are pretty concerning. I stopped by Vallarta supermarket and love it, i was able to buy food for three days. Room is decent. Its called suite but doesnt have couch. Work space yes, microwave and fridge yes. Coffees in the lobby seemed available 24/7. Monterey is about 30 minutes from here, will try that area next time, or Morro Bay.

The common areas look finished but it was hard to tell with my room as certain aspects like the bathroom show age. Plenty of up front parking and no parking fee! Luggage carts (although they all have flat tires) and two elevators made it easy to unload my vehicle and get to the room. The bedroom was very large, and the bathroom was roomy. There are not enough lights in the bedroom area and it was difficult to even unpack. The mattress was cheap and awful, hard as a rock. The standard low flow shower head turned a ten minute shower into a 20 minute shower. Housekeeping knocked on my door an hour before checkout but didn't speak any English so I have no idea what she wanted. The counter staff were friendly. Overall this Hampton Inn is average although I would not stay here again due to the uncomfortable mattresses.

I don't usually leave reviews, but this experience needs to be shared…read more I had a prepaid reservation at Best Western Salinas Monterey Hotel for myself and my two young children. We had already driven in from Bakersfield earlier that day to attend a funeral and spent several hours there before going to check in. At the front desk, I was told there would be a $40 additional person fee. I questioned it to better understand the policy, and was told that if I didn't accept it, my reservation would be canceled and I would still be responsible for the full prepaid amount. As the conversation continued, the explanation kept changing. I was told the room could only accommodate two people regardless of age, then that it was corporate policy, and later that it was related to fire safety and California law. The room included a sofa bed and had even been described as an upgrade, which made the situation even more confusing. At that point, I agreed to pay the additional fee just so my children and I could stay and deal with the rest later through corporate. Despite that, the proprietor still refused to honor the reservation. While I was still standing in the lobby with my children and on the phone with customer service trying to resolve the situation, the proprietor canceled my reservation at the front desk. My seven-year-old daughter became very upset and started crying, and there was no empathy or effort to help resolve the situation. We were left without accommodations and had to drive three hours back to Bakersfield that evening, getting home close to 11 PM after an already long and emotional day. The drive included long stretches with limited services, which made it even more difficult traveling with kids. This wasn't just an inconvenience -- it was how it was handled. The situation could have been resolved, especially since I was willing to pay the fee, but instead it escalated unnecessarily. Very disappointing experience.

It was spacious and comfortable. As others have noted, the stairs are a bit steep but we had no issues with it. The downside of the property is that it feels quite impersonal. There were also some difficulties getting our reservation payment process finalized. Mistakes can happen, but what was most disappointing was that the receptionist didn't apologize and simply reassigned us to another room. The second room wasn't much better. It was warm because the air conditioner barely cooled the room. The microwave and refrigerator were old, the shower had very low water pressure, and the body wash dispenser was almost empty when we checked in. Overall, the room was in poor condition--not even what I would consider acceptable. The complimentary breakfast was also disappointing. It only included toast, coffee, cereal, Danish pastries, and yogurt as the only protein option, with very limited variety. The front desk staff didn't seem welcoming or happy to assist guests. There also appeared to be too few staff members, resulting in long lines at check-in. Instead of feeling welcomed, it felt like guests were an inconvenience. I wasn't expecting five-star service--I simply wanted to feel comfortable and at home while away from home. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst motel experiences I've had. I will not be returning, and I would not recommend staying here.
