We stayed over at Lone Oak Lodge for three nights in room 12. The check-in process was smooth, and the room was clean upon arrival. The room comes with fridge, microwave, TV. 1) The location is a plus, it's close to everything, and the street is also quiet at night. 2) Parking is free and conveniently located right in front of the room. While there are no designated parking spots, there are two spaces in front of every room, so parking is not an issue. 3) The heater/AC worked well, heating or cooling the room within minutes. However, the unit is loud while operating. The heater operates based on temperature. When our room was cold, we turn on heating and upped the temperature, so it was warm. But once the room reaches the same temperature as the heater temperature, it actually blows cold air instead of warm air. Thus, you probably can't leave it on overnight without it cooling the room after warming it up 4) The bed is soft, but extremely squeaky and makes noise with every movement. Housekeeping is available daily and can change the bedsheets and pillowcases upon request. 5) The restroom is supplied with 3 light switches, easily brightens up the entire restroom. The water appeared clean, and the water pressure was strong. Towels were replaced daily. 6) Wi-Fi is free, but was unstable during our stay and frequently disconnected. My fiancé and I stayed at this Inn for a weekend getaway. To celebrate us experiencing our first baby. Everything was going so good till it was time to leave. Right after we left my bank card was charged $200.00 and when I called the front desk the lady was very rude, and would not listen to what I had to say. So that next day I called back and the same lady answered the phone but with a bigger attitude. But at least she did hear me out this time. But then today called and the rude lady says "oh you're the one that keeps calling about the 200.00 refund". Then she lied and said her cleaning people said that they smelled drugs in the room but we don't do any type of drugs. But they never called to tell me nothing I had to keep calling and dealing with the rudeness of these people. And there still not giving me back my money I asked for the information to file a complaint and they said that I had to email them at the hotel and they will look at to see if a complaint can be made. My advice to everyone is check their accounts because after talking to a few other people they said how the same place got them like that too. Just because am young does not mean you can advantage of people. Yes, I want to know if I can have the information to the management team because when I was on the phone going back-and-forth with your front desk lady in between her being rude, she act like she wasn't trying to hear what I had to say at first it wasn't until our call back the third time and she was listening to me and she made it seem like if we email the Inn they will take it in consideration if they feel like it was a complaint or not, and if it would get passed through to whoever he needs to go to, because I asked for information to file a formal complaint and as of yet they have not called me or told me anything. Because at this point, I am starting to get upset and frustrated when I should be celebrating my happy news, but if I have to, I will have to take legal action because they are trying to accuse me of something that definitely did not happen if you would like to continue on this conversation please me back or send me your information and we can go from there. read more

Honestly I was a little nervous to book something outside of a traditional hotel for my husband, baby and I but this place was wonderful and budget friendly! The rooms are exactly like shown on the website! We booked a king room but were upgraded to a cottage upon check in which was wonderful! Not only did we have a king bed but we had a little room with a door where we could put our baby's pack and play so she could sleep well. The room was nice, spacious, & clean!! You could tell the rooms have been recently remodeled. Also, it is dog friendly and the pet fee is cheaper than most other places in town! We will definitely stay here again! We stayed there for a week and very pleased with our suite. We stayed in 1 bedroom with kitchen, living area and with another bed adjacent to living room. The pictures on expedia.com didn't do it justice. It is also pet friendly hotel. And there is a park about 2 miles away. Ots also near Safeway and few more miles there is costco and a shopping center. My only complaint is we wish we each had a dresser. It's near Carmel, Cannery Row. If up to it the wharf at Santa Cruz has real good clam chowder. It was the last restaurant and they sell fresh seafood. If staying i would the Chinese restaurant nearby and Monterey Cookhouse. read more

Hardworking Single mom, My toddler came down sick with RSV and Bilateral ear infection before our trip, he was so sick but they refused to void a $131 cancellation fee even though booking.com asked them to. They couldn't care less about people. Sad what has happened to humanity. Im sure they rented that room out 2 minutes after we canceled.. $131 might not seem like a lot to some but for someone who has saved for a year to take my son to the Aquarium.. $130 is a big chunk.. we will postpone until next year but WILL FOREVER spread word of mouth about my experience with them. If you are on the fence about booking here DONT. I actually called the day we cancelled to see if they would say the room was available and how much it was and it was 1/2 the cancellation fee they rented the room out for less then they charged me to cancel.. thats how they make money without doing the work.. having people double pay for the rooms. read more

My family and I go scuba diving in Monterey and for several years have stayed at Lone Oak Lodge because it's very friendly to divers. In recent months, that has changed dramatically for the worse. On our last two visits, the rinse tanks for the dive equipment, which in the past have always been kept fresh and clean, have been stale and growing algae. Definitely not something you want to put your equipment into. Worse, though, is what happened on this most recent trip. I knew we were going to be late back to the room and asked the night before if we could get a late check out. The lady who runs the front desk, who I've seen the last couple visits, told me that it would be a $40 charge if we stay late. I told her that was fine because I knew we should be getting back to the room a little after noon, and we were hoping to take a shower before we hit the road home. The next day we were delayed and didn't get back until 3:00 due to being locked out of our car. I called the hotel at around 2 to let them know this was happening. When we got back to the hotel and cleared our stuff out of the room, I went by the front desk to check out and make sure they had run the $40 charge. The same lady who had been there the night told me (snarkily) that we might as well stay and spend the night because we just paid for the room again. What?!? I told her that she had told me $40, and she told me that she said it was $40 per hour. I know what I heard the night before, and I would have done the math if she had said "per hour". She did not say per hour, and she was lying to my face. I told her that I disagreed with her, and she clearly was not going to admit her error. What was worse was when I looked at my credit card when I got home and saw that she had charged me $173 which was far more than even the $40/hr she was quoting. Now I get that they need to run a business, and I understand that we were delayed, but it was a Sunday afternoon and the parking lot was empty in March - I was not causing them to lose out on another room rental. This was just flat out abusive and taking advantage of us. I strongly recommend that all the dive community reconsider any loyalty we might have had to Lone Oak because it's not the place it used to be. read more

Stayed here for 1 night (Saturday into Sunday). Front desk was friendly and helpful, check in process was a breeze. Plenty of parking which is a huge plus. The room is clean and nicely updated. The bed was comfortable and they had a huge bathroom with shampoo and body wash attached to the wall. The tv was a flat screen and there was a fridge with plenty of space. There was no water bottles for us to use, but Safeway was right next door and we managed. The AC was cool but it was VERY loud. We stayed in room 12. Also, we can hear the room next to us in the morning which disrupted our sleep. It was a short stay but we felt comfortable staying here and would totally stay again. Pretty good find for an inexpensive but still nice hotel to stay at in Monterey. Making the reservation was easy online, it was easy to find the hotel as its right on a Main Street, and there is plenty of parking. Amenities are nice, it appears as if it was renovated semi recently. Our room 24 was clean and organized and the majority of the items were in very good condition. The fridge was a little scuffed (which obviously is not a big deal) there seemed to a missing security camera above our section, and the bathroom door has a screw loose in the doorway which prevented the door from being fully closed. Overall, surface level issues that are not that big of a deal. Shower was in good condition! Unfortunately I couldn't use the shampoo/conditioner as I am allergic to Aloe Vera, but good thing I brought my own! Check in and out process was smooth. We arrived a bit before the 3pm check in time and we were allowed to put our bags in a secure room so we didn't have to take them all around the city. I stayed at the Lone Oak Lodge in Monterey, CA from Friday, 7/5/24 until Saturday, 7/6/24. Upon arrival, my first impression of the property was that it looked like a bunch of cute mini-homes. At check-in, the associate was kind, helpful, and welcoming. In terms of the room, it was generally wonderful. The hot tub was a great addition to the stay. It was very relaxing to utilize it. The fridge kept the food and drinks nicely cold. The bed was extremely comfortable and soft. The A/C was functioning well. All of the amenities did not disappoint. Overall, I truly liked the stay. I am a repeat customer and they did a re-modeled which was great to see. But they really need to hire better people to work the front desk who has better customer service skill or train them better to handle situations that arise. The last two times I stayed here the customer service was really awful and disappointing that it almost ruined my experiences there. Rude customer service is unacceptable especially with all the competition in that area. Granted the price is decent and the place is upgraded, but the attacks we received from the front desk lady while staying there made us paused and left us with a bad feeling. This last visit, the front desk lady kept calling me to come to the front desk and woke me and my spouse up twice and when we did show up, gave us a bad attitude and felt her judgment strongly. There was a mix up the motel had with our check in and it was not our fault. We were not told or communicated about the problem and had no idea what was happening except to come to the front desk. We were sleepy and got woken up twice. There was no apologies or proper explanation as to why we had to go to the front desk and this could have been communicated to us in a respectful, dignified manner. It was an easy fix with proper respectful communication. We felt really disrespected and judged with the attitude of the woman working the front desk when we did eventually came to the front desk to take care of the situation. I told the lady that we could have taken care of the situation when we first came in to register and we were not aware of how they registered us for the motel stay. It was not our fault but the motel's fault for this mixup and misunderstanding. The bad attitude, judgmental attack and to be harassed and woken up twice out of rest was not acceptable. She was rude, had poor communication and disrespectful. She even locked us out of our room by deactivating our key to the room and gave us a mean attitude when we told her our key needed to be replaced. This was unprofessional. I'm a bit upset that I don't mind talking to management. We stayed at some of the finest hotel in the area-Barnadus lodge and spa, Quail Lodge, and Sanctuary Beach Resort. We don't expect a five-star treatment here but we do expect courtesy, respect, professional communication, not be harassed, attack and be treated rudely. Other facilities with the same price range have better customer services. Just because this facility had better reviews over the years does not mean there are not areas to be improved upon. We were one of those people who gave out good reviews in the past! We discovered Lone Oak Lodge and stay here for when we want to do snorkeling and kayaking because there is a place to clean your gear which is very convenient. A lot of scuba divers come to stay here at this motel for that reason. This motel served that purpose for us. Please hire a new person or re-train the front desk lady to better communicate and work through conflict in a gracious and respectful fashion and give better service to go along with all the upgrades and remodeled done to the place. It made our stay felt icky, stressful, and almost ruined our trip but we didn't allow her to do that to us. She needs another job where she is qualified to do or be re-trained. Customer service makes a huge difference. We have come to this place for many years and it's really unfortunate that it has created a bad template for us now. Only cons is that the walls are very thin - you can hear conversations outside. One of the ice machines was broken & the spa/gym area said permanently closed. First, card key wouldn't work, went up to the desk got re keyed that wouldn't work, ok now back up to the desk new key this time its been about 45 min so far.. Ok new key not working by up to the clerk at front desk and now the clerk looks at me and asks "If I know how to work a key card" What? I beg your pardon.. She now acts put out and has to get up and check key herself, hmm big shocker key doesn't work its now been an hour of hassle, new room working key box. Rooms ARE definitely clean and remoded. Staff not so much. Friends had one of the cottage rooms and they had a waste overflow outside of the adjacent cottage and you could smell the sewage outside we did mention that to the clerk and was told they would call someone. I've stayed here multiple times, often booking through third-party platforms like Expedia, and every visit has been consistently excellent. The remodeled rooms are clean, cozy, and clearly well cared for--there's a sense of pride in how the facility is maintained, and it shows. This most recent trip, however, I booked directly through their website. Unfortunately, I experienced a sudden medical emergency and was unable to make the drive from Sacramento. I was incredibly disappointed to cancel at the last minute, but the way the staff handled it truly deserves praise. Cynthia at the front desk was especially helpful and kind. From the early morning hours when I first called in distress, she took the time to listen, showed genuine concern, and assured me she would pass along the message to her manager. Thanks to her and the team's professionalism, my cancellation was handled smoothly, and they even issued a full refund--something they were under no obligation to do. That level of compassion and integrity in hospitality is rare these days. I'm so grateful for how they treated me and can't wait to feel better and rebook my stay in the near future. ***3.5 stars*** This is a good place to stay if your diving Monastery as it is only 10 mins away. The room looks like it has been recently remodeled and was very clean. The furniture was a bit aged, but fully functional. The bed was very firm but still comfortable, as I prefer firm over sinking in. The bed did make a metal clanking noise though every time I moved. The front desk staff were super friendly. The two comments I would give is that you will hear everything in the parking lot from cars to kids playing, but it was mostly quiet at bedtime. I have never had this issue before, but the lights for the parking lot our on the outside of the building across from your room so that they shine directly at your room. Even though you can close the blinds, blinds allow light to leak and I kept waking up in the middle of the night thinking it was daytime. I now know why hotels use black out curtains. Overall my stay was good. It was a good value, and I would probably stay here again. read more

They booked us room and it had better amenities when we ordered it! they gave us a single room no amenities and our service agent that we used even told them it had a hot tub they say nope nothing we can do! First off they could adjust their attitude. When we tried to check in the two hosts did not acknowledge us. We had to say hello. We tried to check in a little early. The lady said they have one clean room but it would be $60. Our room had an animal or special needs child howling all night. There were women talking very loud outside our room at 10:30 pm. Just after booking a stay here yesterday, my son asked me to try to change locations, as he lives in the Carmel area. Considering there would be flexible cancellations, I went back to see the details but learned that the cancellation would have to be 7 days before I had even booked, as I booked the day before my stay. I called Priceline, and the lady that was helping me tried to get a refund. She called Lone Oak Lodge, but was informed there, by the lady at the front desk, was no manager there until the next morning at 9am, and she wasn't authorized to make the decision to refund. Priceline informed me they would try to call the front desk at Lone Oak Lodge again the next morning, and that I should check for updates in the morning after the manger came in. All morning there were no updates, so I called Lone Oak Lodge around noon and was told there was still no manager to ask. At this point I asked the person at the front desk, Jasmine, if she would call the manager and ask her, as it was time for me to make the 5 hour trip to Monterey, and would need to secure another place to stay. Jasmine informed me she would call the manager. When I called back I was told the manager said there would be no way to cancel. I informed Jasmine I would have to go ahead and stay there, but I would leave a negative review. When I got to the motel that evening, I was informed there was no room for me, though I already paid, and Jasmine had written on my reservation that I said that I wasn't coming. So the room was sold to someone else. I let the lady at the front desk know it was illegal to sell the same room twice for the same night, and I'd like to speak to the manager. She said that wouldn't be possible. I called Priceline and explained, they refunded the money. Finally the front desk lady said the manger was on the line with her. She now said she would try to make something work? Really bad treatment by management. read more

I want to say this was an interesting trip. I gave it an extra star due to the fact that the staff in the office were pretty nice. Monty and a lady in there were very attentive. I booked a suite room 44 with 1 king bed and 2 queen beds and I need to mention that the inside of the suite was renovated BUT the beds were hard and pillows were pretty flat. Bathroom was really nice probably the best thing about the suite. If you're continuing to read - brace yourself. We went out to the patio outside by the soda machines and OUR SUITE ....rats .... Not 1 not even 3 but maybe close to 20. All over the patio and by the fence where the plants are growing over the wall. They were under the suites and by the fence ! Absolutely gross. read more

You know Lone Oak Lodge is one of those more affordable lodging places when there's a Dollar Tree across the street. If you're willing to get away from the touristy parts of Monterey, then lodging for the night need not break the bank. We booked a room here using credit card points, and the pricing was very reasonable for the useful amenities that we had. There are several different room types and we chose the queen bed with fireplace option. Our room had: * Small/medium size TV * Small round table with 2 chairs * Mini fridge and microwave * Gas fireplace * Free WiFi with okay speeds * In-ceiling heater in bathroom The grounds were well-kept and seemingly updated recently, with modern touches like solar panels on roofs, RFID key card readers, and electric car chargers. Our room was comfortable and functional, not spotless but reasonably clean. The mattress was a little saggy in the middle, but I didn't lose any sleep over it. Water pressure in the bathroom was good. Noise isolation was decent. In the morning, I heard a bit of noise from car engines starting up, but it wasn't too bad. I also heard some plumbing noise when a neighbor was showering, but I never heard neighbors directly. The fact that each unit is on the ground floor and you don't have people above you is also nice. Parking is free and spaces were ample. There's a spa room that has a couple ellipticals, but it was closed due to covid. There's no breakfast served; we had our own food and so the fridge and microwave were sufficient for us. And if you need more food or whatever, yep there's the Dollar Tree. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and felt that we got our money's worth. No frills at this place, but they've got the basic amenities down nicely. read more

The Lone Oak Lodge proved to be a good place to stay for the Monterey Jazz Festival. Large parking lot, it's a little more spread out than at the motels around here. A short walk to the fairgrounds. It was quiet after the last show. They're currently in the middle of renovating. So we were in a room with a comfortable new bed, new bathroom and fixtures, and some new furniture. But there was an old chair and a small TV that the manager said was being replaced with a larger one soon. A little more expensive than the cheap motels, but it was nice that it was very clean. It's not too far from downtown Monterey if that's why you're visiting. Four stars because it's a good value, safe and clean. Plus, the Wi-Fi worked well. read more

First off, they did not accept our Yelp 15% off coupon, told me take it up with the yelp. Sort of rude but I rolled with it. Check in person was a fast talker from India and the office heavily smelled of curry -- not really sure what he said, maybe something about coffee in the lobby? There's a coffee maker in the room. We got the room with two bedrooms and a kitchen. It's not bad but it's not near the beach but that's OK cause we mostly needed a kitchen. I don't know could use some kind of a personal touch - it's very sterile clean but it will do in a pinch...here with my daughter and grandkids plus granddog. The beds are hard, there's 2 bedrooms - one bedroom with a king and one with a full sized bed, plenty of parking, kitchen with full size stove and frig (we had to turn it on when we got here), tiny kitchen table with 2 chairs, good size bathroom. There's a back door in the kitchen to an alley...good for pottying the dog plus a wash station that I did not personally check out. There was a new Weber grill and a nice gas fire pit tucked in the middle between units. It's clean but I think I would give it 2.5 stars, it will do in a pinch if you have a dog and family and don't want to spend $10 million. I only spent 5 million to get this room...actually it was $550 for two nights and a dog. Seems high to me for what we got and I've stayed in Pacific Grove and Monterey a lot in the last 20 years. read more

So the hotel is updated, it's clean, beds are on the hard side but..... my big issue is the Wifi. It is extremely slow and goes up and down. If you need to do work I don't recommend staying here. They need to upgrade their wifi system. Day 2 Down graded my star review and updated my comments due to the fact they don't answer the phone. I called several times throughout the day and no one answered. Yesterday I had to walk down to the office in order to talk to someone. Day 3 Reduced a second time. Gave up on calling the office the guy had a crying baby he started yelling because he was frustrated with the baby yelling. He made me go to the window instead of the lobby because his baby was crying. Asked for late checkout and he gave me a half hour. I have never had a hotel tell me 1/2 hour for late checkout. If you need a place to lay your head and not care about customer service then this place will work but if you need wifi and want good customer service this is not the place to stay. read more

Great stay. The bed was a memory foam mattress, slept really well, I would say its about medium firm. Sheets, towels, and overall room was clean and well-maintained. The room looked like it was re-done, with the grey flooring and white painted trim style that has become very popular in apartments, condos, and home renovations in recent years. But also, I feel like there was thought and user experience put into the design. The beds are not raised, so there's nothing underneath; I think that's good in case things fall under and you forget. There weren't any drawers in the bath area, but it had bars that made it easy to hang towels. Outlets are updated with a USB-C slot.... etc. *Something to note: spa and gym are permanently closed, but we weren't going here to get spa treatment or to go swimming, so that's fine. Everything worked as expected, and the admin office even called in to ask about if we wanted room service; we skipped a day because we didn't really need it, but by the next day, the cleaning lady did a thorough service. If you scuba dive or go surfing, we noticed that outside the doors there were hooks on the rafters. That's actually pretty cool to be able to hang your wetsuit outside to dry. We came for the Laguna Seca Racetrack, my boyfriend was very happy with the location. There's a carwash, and gas stations all around. Getting food was easy within a 10 minute drive or even walking out. Great location to other tourists spots though! Lastly, easy to check in and out. read more

Easy and quick check in and check out. Room was very clean and everything new. I requested hangers and they were installed right away. Location was very close(driving) to the Bay and Carmel By the Sea. Office area was outdated, but I am sure it is next to be renovated and refreshed. read more

Stay here every year for a kayaking trip, and it gets better every time. Noticeable improvements to the rooms, including beautiful new bathrooms. Everything is always spotlessly clean and comfortable with spacious rooms and plenty of easy to reach electric outlets. Love the hooks to hang gear outside to dry. Very close to everything in Monterey, Seaside, Carmel without being surrounded by the tourist chaos. Love the proximity to Safeway and restaurants. read more

Clean, affordable newly redecorated. A good choice to stay when visiting the area. It would've been nice to have larger towels and an extra blanket in the room. But overall was exactly what we needed just to sleep for the night. read more

Staff is rude. Management will not respond to your calls. No one there in office at times to get your deposit back.
