The gal behind the receipt area was very nice, I had made my reservation on the Bonvoy App .There was a nice fire burning in the reception area and it was very welcoming.Check in was a breeze. This hotel was very clean, a quick trip up to the second floor and I was off to my room . My room was clean and the kitchen area had everything I need to cook a quick meal, no they do not supply oil, but there are small pots and pans. There are forks, knives, plates and cups. The surprise came when I saw a portable air conditioner, the exhaust was exiting out a window that was up, this made the outside noise very loud. The bed was very comfortable, it was queen size but that's ok, I slept like a baby . The towels were well laundered and soft , there is a blow dryer in the room, there is an iron, My room was pretty good , I wish the receptionist would have told me about the portable a/c , these rooms are not cheap, I'm an ambassador elite at Marriott hotels. The stay wasn't horrible. The room had a very chemically smell to it. The bathtub didn't look too sanitary either. A big issue was that a few us booked this hotel, or next door at the Courtyard, so that we could all stay together during a golf trip. One of my friends was given a call saying his room had been flooded so they had to cancel his reservation, but made very little effort to find him a new stay and decided to displace him instead. They pretty much told him he had to find a new place to stay at 8pm during a time when all the hotels in the area were booked due to a marathon. read more

weekend getaway and booking residence inn which is located about 30 minutes from monterey or carmel...child wanting an indoor pool and residence inn has...apartment style rooms perfect for a family...taking a 2 bedroom and 2 bath unit...full kitchen, living room and 2 separate bedrooms with attached bathrooms in each room...television in each room and living room...beds are comfortable and room was clean...everything in working order...unpacking and child going straight to the pool...seems like all other children had the same idea because the pool had a lot of children...taking a trip to monterey one day and carmel-by-the-sea on the other day...another child favorite is the complimentary hotel breakfast...basic hot and cold items...sausauge, waffles, cereal, fruit, bagels, oatmeal, eggs, etc....nothing fancy, but the child loves to pick what they want to eat...overall, it was a great staycation with no issues...excellent staff... read more

The rooms have everything you need for a longer stay with the full kitchen(no oven) . My biggest issue is the AC turning off at night and it getting hot in the room. Another problem was the 2 properties share a parking lot and there isn't room for large rigs so 2 mornings in a row there was construction equipment being loaded and loud trucks started. I appreciate that the grounds were well manicured but starting in them before 8am seemed like a lot. Location is convenient to the Costco and a couple of chain restaurants as well as Monterey. My reservation was confirmed 4 days ago. 30 minutes prior to arriving, I received an email indicating my reservation has been canceled due to rooms being overbooked. They didn't even have the courtesy to call and let us know about the error. I stayed at Marriott facilities often and I am very disappointed on how this was handled. On top of that, the folks at the facility that I ended up staying at advised me that Marriott often times do scams like this. Where they allow people to book online and they canceled them super last minute and have them rerouted to other hotels. Stay away. This place is super sketch. read more

I don't really have high expectations for Residence Inns... But holy crap this was horrible LMAO. For the price of a suite, you can get the quality of a (marginally) higher-end motel. We booked this spot because it was the only dog-friendly hotel near Carmel, but would definitely not book again. For COVID safety purposes, all staff wear masks and continental breakfast has been swapped for individually-wrapped items (cereal, muffins, etc.) in pickup bags. While guests are encouraged to wear masks... I definitely only saw two other groups abiding. Front desk staff were great and did their best under the circumstances. We had an easy check-in & were able to get some simple problems resolved. But the others... Yikes. - Slight sulphuric smell after turning on the shower, lingered on clothing - TV remote was broken and didn't work after the front desk replaced the battery - Some lamps wouldn't turn on, would flicker, or had wobbling legs. None of them matched the interior decor and looked identical to $50 ones at Target - Shampoo and conditioner bottles were empty on arrival. Since they're bolted into the wall, there's no knowing how sanitary these were - Toaster was covered in crumbs, clearly dirty from past guests. If the toaster was this bad, who knows how clean the other utensils were? - Dark brown splatter stain on coverlet and pillows - The rubber mat in the shower was peeling and continued disintegrating as we used it - No hand towel hangers, only two awkward glass shelves and a tiny sink counter with questionable sanitation (leftover splatters/stains...) Even after all of these, the ultimate worst part was actually the INSULATION. For a dog-friendly hotel, you'd think that noise control would be a huge deal so barking wouldn't affect other guests-- UHHHH, no lol. We could hear folks' conversations right outside our window and every single shuffle/step/squeak from upstairs. What's worse is that we chose Monterey County for July 4th weekend since fireworks are banned there-- of course, someone was lighting fireworks from the adjacent apartment complex from sundown all the way until 1 AM which inevitably blasted through the walls and woke every dog up. Barking everywhere, just absolute mayhem. One of our dogs was unfazed, but the other one was pretty much going through PTSD and went catatonic for 3 hours as we tried to comfort him through the noise. Really awful. It was so loud that it sounded like they were blowing up the parking lot. The staff were willing to waive our $100 dog fee to compensate for the broken amenities, but that's about it. I'd rather pay for a nice Airbnb than stay somewhere like this. read more

Great customer service w Chris at front desk checking early morning (~2am). Thank you for hooking me up w the perks as Gold member. This was first time being charged $10/day for on-site parking at a Residence Inn granted each location has different charges. Granted this was not even a secured parking area that was gated or have on site security person watching parking area and cars. Got a suite w x2 tv but neither of them had remote controls. Only stayed one night and the fact we checked in early morning didn't notice the missing remotes until we woke up wanting to watch the news. Didn't bother to call front desk since we were rushing to check out by 11am. Forgot to tell front desk they were missing. Kitchen was fully stocked w amenities. Refrigerator also made a chime noise (similar to a door bell) every hour or so. First time we heard it, we thought someone was at the door at 2:30-3am ringing the doorbell. Otherwise, bed and amenities were pretty comfortable. Always like the fact that the shower amenities; shampoo, conditioner and body wash was plentiful in large containers inside shower. Thank you for the paper towel and dishwasher detergent. Courtyard by Marriott also located next door. (A bit higher when using points). I wonder if they also charge $10 for their parking? Face mask not enforced especially if you are vaccinated. read more

I booked last minute for a 1 night stay while I was visiting Carmel. I read some of the recent reviews and was worried but it wasn't so bad. It's a decent place. Not sure about the last minute price because it's expensive for what you get. I believe my shower may have been more updated than some of the other rooms. I didn't have a tub just a shower. Room was spacious. Has a kitchen/fridge etc. There's also breakfast. I believe it's 6am-9am can't remember just ask. Breakfast was ok. Don't expect too much but it was ok. Overall wasn't too bad. Very much enjoyed our time here - friendly staff, newer and recently updated rooms, along with a decent breakfast in the morning. We had a double room that slept 4 comfortably. A nice couch, 3 TVs and a full and queen bed in the rooms. A kitchenette made it nice to keep leftovers and extras from downstairs. Super nice that they had Internet enable TVs that had a number of premium channels as well as access to Netflix and Hulu as desired. It's a great trend that we've recently observed! However a couple things kept the overall rating lower than it could have been. There was food in the fridge upon arriving, but not like mini bar type stuff, rather the leftovers from the previous guests. They seems to have good taste, but not having to toss it would have been preferred. They also left a toilet brush and rags in the room. Again, not a huge deal, but it's nice to not have the leavings from other rooms on the counter. Continued improvement is always important! All in all, this was a good spot for getting to Monterrey quickly and even better for getting to Pebble beach! Costco is close by as is a movie theater and plenty of big box stores. Our room was fantastic. We have 5 in our party, including a toddler. We got the suite, and it had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and a pullout couch bed. It was more than enough room for all of us. It very much felt like home, there was soap, dishes and cups, and everything I could think of. The indoor pool was very humid but the temp of the pool itself was great, and the hot tub too. By the time we realized, it would've been very late to go get milk for the baby, the front desk was super accommodating and sent some up for us. Would love to stay again. read more

The shower in one of the bedroom kept leaking and making sounds as well as leaking onto the outside floor. Then housekeeping clogged up a toilet with the trash that was in the trash can instead of throwing it in trash can. An excellent choice for us. The location is great and convenient to downtown Salinas and Montery. The staff is excellent. It looks like they have been trying to upgrade but the tubs and showers could use some help. The air conditioner did not cool the room down, especially at night. The indoor swimming pool and hot tub are clean and an added bonus. The rain did not keep us away from that so kuddos for an enclosed pool and hot tub. The exercise room is next door at the Courtyard but it is just a short walk and accessible. The breakfast menu is great with plenty of options and the price can't be beat. read more

Unhappy experience to share. Hope the management takes this seriously. Since my parents had signed up for SPG credit card, we wanted to stay one of their hotels. This was a last minute trip and we had a dog, so our choice was very limited. Among the small choice, we picked this hotel because of the 2 bedroom suite. Well, this is what we experienced. Found empty can under a chair, popcorn under a couch. In the bath tub, I found a hair and was going to remove it and found more under a seat as you see on pic. Gross!!!!! Although the front desk told me to compensate the SPG points, it became very unpleasant stay. When we know the rooms were not well maintained, who can trust the bed cleanliness?! By the way, they charged us $75 for extra cleaning fee for dog. I wonder what kind of "extra $75 cleaning job" they will do... I am just hoping we will not get any bed bugs. worst experience i have ever had with the residence inn brand. a charge for 2 nights of parking at $10 a night that was not disclosed until i checked out. No hot water for both nights - told front desk about it on the first morning and was told they knew about it and were working on it (not sure why they had put us in a room if they knew there was a problem getting hot water). Still no follow up and no hot water the second day. front desk also wanted to charge me for a bottle of water on check in! easy choice next time - stay at the Hampton Inn a few blocks away that is cheaper, has hot water, and gives you free water on check in and out! oh, and when i asked for a discounted rate for the hot water issue was completely ignored. read more

The manager of this location is a liar. She told me one thing, and then when I opened a case she said she never said that and I am now stuck with paying for the hotel instead of using points. Her apology was, "I'm sorry you thought I said that" which is completely unacceptable. I would not trust this location strictly due to the manager. I'm extremely disappointed in Marriott overall, and will be using the remainder of my points and cancelling my Chase Bonbon credit card, cancelling my rewards account and finding a new hotel chain to give my loyal business to. To the manager, I hope nothing like this ever happens to you. This is deeply concerning that you can lie like this and think it is ok. I worked hard for what I have, and this unnecessary bill puts financial pressure on me and my family. You should reflect and understand the impact of your actions - not to Marriott (they'll be fine) but to the hard working people that stay at your location. Very poor maintenance. Owners of pets don't pick up dog poop. Dirty grounds with cigarette butts thrown and left on ground. Assistant manager, Ben, is rude and unaccomodating. Water smells not drinkable. Pool out of order the entire 7 months stay. Back parking lot dark, a lot of homeless people wandering around and a lot of non-resident activity. The service we received during our stay June 16-18 was fantastic. The staff are so great! Whatever you're paying them it's not enough! they're worth their weight in gold. The hotel was all we could find available and we did not expect a great deal. but our stay was excellent, so much better than we expected. Breakfast was generous, the location was really handy for lots of places to eat, but most of all the staff are so warm and friendly. We felt so welcome. Chris on Reception was so helpful - he assisted me while I was busy with meetings in Australia late at night. He also recommended the best Mexican food we have ever tasted, El Churrito!!!! it was one of the highlights of our six week trip! We LOVED it so much. A road trip to attend a family reunion with our parents and 3 dogs. My husband found this spot and I found it to be perfect. We had a ground floor near the exit door, I know they say for safety reasons not to get a room next to the exit, but this was convenient if you had pets you need to take out. The room was equipped with the basic cooking and eating essentials, which was perfect since we were making a dish for the family reunion. We later discovered that the fridge had an ice maker in the freezer, so our search for an ice bucket was not needed. There was a pull out bed, which was not the easiest to sleep on. One nights we used our airbed and then the other night we tolerated or maybe my husband, I should say suffered on the pull out bed. With me having the sensitive nose, I could tell you the room did not have any previous pet odors, nor did it smell musty. We arrived early, before check-in time, and we were lucky the room was ready! The breakfast buffet, I heard was well stocked, yes, and a waffle maker. I didn't actually get to go, but my husband brought back some eggs, sausages, and bagels. I made a breakfast bagel, it was great, the bagel was dense and moist, perfect! After driving around the area, it is safe to say if you have missed packing something you will find it at one of the stores nearby. There is a Target, Office Max, K-mart and grocery stores nearby. We will keep this place in mind for our next visit. read more

I only have one complaint , the room had a bra and underwear that obviously weren't mine. Hope they do a better job cleaning. I told the cleaning lady and she was embarrassed. We stayed here during Thanksgiving Break celebrating 17 year wedding anniversary. Our 2 bedroom 2 bath suite was located in a quiet corner. Though there were strange rooster calls at all hours of the night... Loved the fireplace and convenient kitchen amenities. Indoor swimming pool had poor ventilation so it felt a lot like a sauna. Very small gym had 2 treadmills and 1 elliptical machine. Free continental breakfast was convenient. Grab some yogurt for snacking later in your room! Nothing fancy but everything comfortable. The hotel is overpriced compared to comparable hotels in the Salinas area, but we chose to stay there because it was promoted as "pet friendly" and we had our daughter's dog with us. I was shocked to be told there would be a $100 charge for the dog for a three day stay. Whatever you may say, that is NOT pet friendly! Then when we checked out I was shocked again to be charged a $10 per night parking fee! Does anyone come to this hotel to sleep at normal hours? Not based on my experience. The walls are paper thin, so you hear everything. My neighbors sound like they are in my room. I could hear them laughing and talking until 5:30 AM. Every time someone leaves their room, you hear the heavy metal doors slamming shit and echoing down the hall. My shower tub is rusty and nasty. Gross. Just felt stale and in the middle of no where. The lady at the front desk who checked us in was super sweet, but it was just a dud. Woke up in the morning to find blood splattered on the door in the bathroom and on the wall. Its COVID times, I imagine the rooms should be spotless. Thi was just a stop as we went through the coast and we were in by 10pm and out by 9am. Just a quick stop and I am glad it was. They had a great little courtyard with a fire place but they don't have a liquor license so we pretty much went right up to bed. What happens when you mix together pet friendly AND low price (compared to the other Marriotts in the area, by Cali standards). Loud families and barking dogs. Couple that with paper-thin walls and the construction going on and you have a recipe for disaster. I feel bad for the woman at the front desk who has to deal with this, all while trying to train someone who appears to be brand new. I've barely been here half a day (with a headache, no less) and I already can't wait to leave. They still charge you an arm and a leg considering they have work going until 8pm and they shut off the water twice mid day for several hours. The staff are very pleasant and I'm guessing this place will be worth it's price tag when all of the renovations are completed... except the thin walls so bring some earplugs. read more

The manager Ben is just another sheep who was carried to the top and still fails to see the bigger picture. My company has me booked 2 months here which will soon be extended to 6. Tried to get a few nights upgraded so my wife and kid could visit as the rewards program offers, but the manager Ben quickly intervened. He was great at saying sorry, however his lack of intelligence and habit of saying sorry turned him into a broken record. A real manager would be able to deliver, I'm certain he has no formal education or training in hospitality management. Ben is a good worker bee but so is the maintenance staff. I need a manager, not a lullaby This is a great place to stop for a few hours to get some rest, then move on. Breakfast is the same everyday. Management doesn't have a clue about hospitality. This place is comparable to a brand new motel 6. Rewards program is a hoax. 2 1/2 stars While it may be cute and nice to see the manager helping clean up breakfast. I see it as understaffed and opening yourself up for subordinates to take advantage of you. Any long stays I would recommend going somewhere else. Usually a big fan of Residence Inn, and a platinum Marriott member, I always expect the best from every stay. I decided upon Residence Inn because I like how it feels more like a home and less like a hotel. You also get a larger room with a full kitchen. I usually like to grocery shop when I'm there for a few days so I can cook instead of having to eat out every day when I'm on work trips. That was the initial draw of staying here. I checked in and Roberto helped me and explained all of the amenities, and greeted me as a platinum member. Everything was going well, At first. I saw my room, and as I expected it was a large room with a full kitchen. As I begin to unpack my things, I noticed that I didn't want to put any of my clothes in the drawers and I didn't want to use any of the kitchenware or appliances. Everything was extremely dirty. There were hairs in my bathroom, and it looked like the room hadn't been used in months, maybe even a year. I was only staying here two nights and I had gotten in really late so I did not feel like having anyone coming in to clean. After the astonishing filth that was my room, I started getting nervous about sleeping in the bed. It was then that I took the sheets off the bed and thoroughly examined every square inch, before approving them. Everything was fine, but I was very uncomfortable throughout my entire stay. There is a tiny gym with only two treadmills and elliptical and a few free weights. They have breakfast complimentary in the morning and mixers certain nights of the week. They have an outdoor pool and spa as well as an outdoor fire pit for guests. They have a tiny gift shop as well. Parking is free and available in the lot behind the hotel. It is also right next to the Courtyard Marriott, they actually have a restaurant but you can't charge anything to your room there. Overall, I was disappointed with my stay and I would not choose this hotel if I was coming back. read more

This room is so disgusting the don't wash their sheets obviously, the drains have Lyme built up, there's dust all over the bored under the best it looks like it hasn't been dusted in YEARS. They called us at 10 pm cause of some noise complaints KNOWING WE HAVE A BABY AN THEY PUT US ON THE THIRD FLOOR. How dare you guys. How dare you put us in a filthy room THEN call us on a loud phone at 10 pm.. well maybe next time don't put a baby on the third floor. Maybe next time give us a clean room for the price you are charging. I'm calling corporate in the morning I can't believe you would treat people like this. The only thing I didn't like is the fact that I am a Gold Elite Member with Marriott and they wouldn't allow me to upgrade my room because I had my company book the room for me (3rd party). The parking lot lights were out and we saw some sketchy looking people in the parking lot. My son even saw someone laying on the hill. We had to keep checking on our car because we thought it might get stolen. We had to wait over 4 hours for blankets. No toliet paper in the room. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE read more

The music was so loud last night that it was invading the quiet - The walls seem extra thin... could hear the shower from several doors down - The pillows were terrible--clumpy like they were stuffed with paper towels - Great to have a smoke detector in the room... but it was mounted right above the bed and the green led light was annoying in the dark - The staff was supper friendly.... Definitely nice for the price! The rooms were clean and spacious, complete with kitchenettes and everything! The free breakfasts were satisfying with eggs, sausages, potatoes, croissants, yogurt, oatmeal, muffins, donuts, bagels, tortillas and salsa, make your own waffles, etc. Quite a spread for a complimentary morning start! The staff were incredibly nice!!! They said hello to you each and every time you walked through the door. Once I had my hands full, and the guy at the front desk literally ran to open the door for me!!! There's a little mini-"market" inside too. It's rather expensive, but if you need a late night snack, ice cream, or drink, it's worth it. The pool area was nice and private. I love an indoor, heated pool, and they have music playing. I was the only one swimming for hours, and management told me I could adjust the music and volume, etc., since I was on my own.
